Fleur looked at her brother with a rather unreadable expression and shrugged. "Who knows what he could be like around cards. And anyway I imagine if you're forced to interact with them it's a completely different matter."
Being caught was inspiration for a lot of things. She wiggled her toes, wondering if anyone would be upset about the memento she found. They didn't have to say where it came from, but they should probably come up with a convenient lie of "we just found it" didn't work. Of course if they came back right in time for dinner... they wouldn't have a problem until later.
Maybe she should drag this out a bit longer.
Her attention snapped over to her brother when he spoke about the berries. She needed to focus on her surroundings rather than space out all the time. "Did you bring anything to put them in? Just so if we have extra we can take them home?"

Shelby nipped one of the berries off, just to sample it, and made a small, appreciative noise as the juicy flavor burst in his mouth. Of course, this joy was short lived as his sister spoke again, and he swallowed turned to face her. "Yeah, I figured we could use the empty picnic basket, though we'd have to go and get it," he said, but then...then his eyes fell on the handkerchief again, and his head tilted thoughtfully as his eyes narrowed in calculation.
"Y'know...if we brought it back with berries in it...I doubt anyone would think to ask about where we got it at all," he suggested very slowly, though he wasn't going to press the idea if Fleur said 'no'. After all it -was- hers now, and Shelby didn't care what she did with it as long as the truth of their encounter didn't come out. He thought it was a good solution, though. True, the cloth might get a bit stained, but wouldn't that be worth it for the greater cause of avoiding a lecture (or possibly some even worse punishment?)

Fleur tilted her head as she eyed her brother. Had he been reading her mind or something? Or maybe they had been together for entirely too long?
"I think that's a good idea," she said as she untied the fabric from herself and offer it to her brother. This way no one would notice when they came back with a few treats "Just make sure no one throws it away or anything. I don't want this eventually making its way to Dad."
That would be a disaster. She was sure that the Jack had just about everything he ever owned mentally inventoried so a strange handkerchief making it back into his drawers would be the biggest sort of disaster that she wouldn't want to face. If she at least wore it he wouldn't be suspicious that someone was cheating on him or something.
As funny as that could be.

Shelby took the fabric carefully from his sister, smiling. This was indeed the perfect plan! And it was only natural, after all, that he had been thinking about how they were going to hide their little souvenir, since they'd both get in trouble if the true story came out. He was slightly alarmed to find his paws shaking as he turned to fill the cloth with berries. Oh, that was silly! It wasn't going to harm him. It was just a normal handkerchief, and no matter where it had come from, that was all it would ever be.
"Don't worry, I'll wash it myself, and make sure it only comes back to you," he promised, and since tomorrow was his day to do the laundry anyway, it worked out perfectly. He'd just have to be sure it didn't get lost among all the bed linens he would also be washing. "Now...you wanna come help me fill it?" Setting the handkerchief carefully down on a clear spot of ground, Shelby picked a berry, and put it on top, repeating the motion and starting to collect a small pile of the berries. Of course, for every few he laid out to take back to the Warren, he also ate one. It was impossible to be around so many tempting berries and not sample.

Fleur didn't notice that his paws were shaking at some point. If she had she probably would have snickered.
She nodded at her brother's comment. "Of course I'll help!" she said cheerfully. That was part of the fun after all. She carefully picked a berry off of one of the bushes. She wasn't as skilled as her brother at this sort of thing. They were so terribly tiny compared to her paws. It was a little frustrating.
Every so often she ate a berry herself. But she knew if she ate too many and didn't finish dinner there would be a problem. Rules. Ridiculous rules about cleaning your plate, and all sorts of silly things. Maybe when she had a Jack of her own there wouldn't be stupid rules like that?
The pile was slowly growing bigger as they worked. Fleur paused as she noticed the height of the pile. "Are we going to be able to tie it when it's like this?"

Shelby had fallen into a mindless cycle. Pick a berry, put it on the handkerchief. Pick another, do the same. And again, the same action. Eat a berry. Repeat the entire process. He was so caught up in this, the same sort of mindless task he did every day as a Leveret, and which he always put on autopilot so his mind could drift off, that he didn't notice how large the pile was getting until Fleur said something. He paused, blinking, a berry halfway to his mouth, and then looked over at the rather large collection of berries. A light blush rose on his cheeks under the pale fur.
"Ah...yeah, I think that's probably enough," he laughed, quickly wiping the berry juice off his paws as best he could and then tackling the difficult task of tying the bundle off. He grabbed a stick to help the process, and by tying the handkerchief at the end of the stick, he made it easier to carry and ensured none of the berries would fall out. He grinned and stepped back from his work, a bit impressed.
"Well! Did you want to...go back now, or do we still have time for a bit of a swim before dinner?" After all, they'd never gotten to do that today, and they were steadily losing day light. Not that they couldn't still come back out after dinner for a night swim, but that might be a bit harder to swing.

The berries were neatly tied off in the rather large piece of fabric that could apparently hold more than Fleur anticipated. How did the snake even use it? She didn't have appendages so....
Swimming. She had completely forgotten about it. And now the light was fading, did they even have enough time before dinner to really enjoy themselves?
No, she doubted it. "Let's just go back for now. We can sneak out and swim later. It's going to take us a while to get back and we still need to collect all of the stuff we left behind."
She shrugged. "But if you really do want to swim we can be late for dinner. I'm sure Dad will blow a fuse but when was the last time we actually did something bad?" A rather mischievous smile was on her face when she sad that. The rabbit was joking, of course, and she hoped that her brother managed to get that from the tone of her voice.

Shelby nodded, swinging the bundle of berries over his shoulder and using one paw to support the stick. Yeah, looking at the sky, it was later than he even thought it was, so the Leveret began to hop back over to where they'd left the picnic basket. He stopped dead at her next words, of course, whiskers twitching in worry...well, until he realized she was joking, and his cheeks flushed slightly at his own failure to realize right away what that tone meant.
"Fleur, you shouldn't say things like that," he objected in a whiny tone, hopping again. Despite that, he was quite looking forward to the thought of sneaking out again later. Swimming was just something that they didn't get to do very often anymore, and who knew if the next Warren they were traded to would even be near some sort of water? Ah, but that was a very...depressing thought. And on that note, they reached the lake, and Shelby grabbed the basket in his mouth, glad that they'd been rather neat while eating earlier so there wasn't a lot of extra mess.
((one more post from you and then we end it? <3))

The Does snorted. "I can say whatever I want as long as we're alone. And frankly you'd probably enjoy doing something crazy." She brushed her brother in the shoulder. He really did whine a lot. But that was probably only to her.
She wasn't looking forward to going home. Falling back into the routine and facing her utterly terrifying future. Where was she going to be in the near future? What sort of warren would she end up in? It scared her that she didn't know and she would be separated from her brother.
So right now she just enjoyed the moments she had with him. Maybe they could sneak out to go swimming if everything turned out right. "Looks like we won't be late for dinner," she commented as she looked at the sky before walking back to the warren.
Home sweet home. For now.
