Mephit watched with dark amusement at his silent reply.
The conversation was intriguing on its own, just knowing that he hadn't yet moved his lips, and his compliant resistance to her question only furthered that. She'd love to give Apocalypse a reason to punish him, punishment was exactly the sort of thing she enjoyed, but she'd keep that to herself for now.
"I have, Apocalypse has a wonderful temper." The snake-eyed doe took a pace forward and wondered to herself where Apocalypse was at that moment... or Xiven for that matter. Would it be easier to pursue them for answers? Mephit didn't enjoy being left in the dark about things concerning the few people she took an interest in, Xiven and Apocalypse were both on that list. "I'll just have to pursue them for certain details... Until then, I am Her Highness Mephitisia. Now, it's your turn. If you'd prefer not to talk about who and why, we can go down a different avenue. I'm a dungeon master, my job is to make people give me answers... the least you can do is willingly give me a few for my being so... amiable."
Her cold eyes shot to his pocket where he had jammed his hand and his bracelet alike. "What can you tell me? We could start with that bracelet that you're hiding or I can continue on my way to see Xiven?" Either way it was no bother to Mephit. She wouldn't do any real prying without her Queen's permission, especially if this boy was some sort of... secret?

Conway wanted to growl, he just knew that that was going to hurt like a bitch so he refrained. Instead his eyes narrowed at the woman's request. Why should he give her his name? What if she used it against him?
His nose wrinkled as she continued. Xiven was going to find out about this meeting regardless of how "well behaved" Conway was or not. And he wasn't even supposed to be outside of that stupid room.
"I can tell you that this bracelet is my heritage," he pulled his hand out of his pocket to display the bone. "I can also tell you that the only reason I'm in this nightmare is because the Queen of Hearts wants to keep me as a pet despite my lack of manners. So please continue on to her Majesty and ask her about the broken Hisstor that's wandering around the palace."

This was more and more like her work in the dungeons. Press the right buttons and all their mechanisms jam up. There was this beautiful brick wall everyone put in place to keep their true thoughts and feelings barred up, Mephit personally enjoyed smashing those walls down. Right now, alas, she lacked the proper tools but she already assumed that her dear Queen would be exactly what she was looking for.
"A pet, hm?" Mephit took another step forward, looming now in her bipedal form. "That's an interesting use of words..." Was Xiven in the habit of keeping Cards as pets? He was no Ace, he had too much magic about him, so what was he then? The King grinned, looking down at Conway, and then walked right past him. "Thank you very much, I'll do that."
Not bothering to see if he was following her or not, Mephit made her way down the hallway to Xiven's room. Once there Mephit finally glanced back, looking to see what the 'broken Hisstor' was doing before lifting her hand to knock twice.
"Your Majesty, It's Mephitisia."

Conway shot the woman a glare as she departed. Shit. Now what? It wasn't like he could get out of the palace with this damn collar on. And it wasn't like he could get away from... He made a strangled sound as he hurried around the corner. He just needed to get back to his room before Xiven came looking for him. Xiven was blissfully unaware that Conway had left the confines of his room. She was taking care of the small mountain of today's paperwork, and for once everything was going smoothly. She was even ahead of schedule when there was a knock on the door. She hadn't expected Mephit to show up. Normally she stayed put in the dungeons doing what she did best. What was the special occasion? "Come in, I wasn't expecting you so pardon the mess of my desk," she said surprisingly brightly.

Mephit still wore the hint of a smirk as she entered Xiven's room but curiosity remained the dominant emotion in her usually cold eyes. Ever since she had gained her King rank she'd been pestered by an odd nagging in the back of her thoughts and lately it had gotten bad enough that she'd started coming out more frequently. If she wasn't alone it was far easier to block out the annoying prodding.
The doe pressed the door shut as she stepped inside. "No need to apologize, you're obviously in the middle of a great deal of work." Her gaze scanned over the desk and the messy mountain of paperwork before rising up to meet Xiven. "I won't be long, I only came to ask you a question..." About a certain not-so-fictional rumor.
It'd be intriguing to see how much this made the Queen squirm... if at all. Xiven's mind always worked in intriguing ways.

Xiven raised an eyebrow at the expression that was on the other woman's face. What had she run into to wear something like that. Xiven set her work aside as she leaned on her hands to look at the deer with snake fangs.
"Ask away, I'm more than happy to give you an answer," she said with a smile. Her tail twitched as she awaited the question. Had the woman heard about the rumors that were floating around? Probably. Even if she did spend most of her time in the dungeon ignoring the existence of the gossip in the palace, she was bound to hear something this time. Everyone just wouldn't shut up about it.
Was it really that amazing?
She waited in silence though.
Meanwhile Conway was doing a good job of hiding under the covers in the room that he had escaped from. He had managed to re-lock the door and make it look like he hadn't tampered with anything. In theory he could get off Scott free until he had to deal with Apocalypse.

"I'm sure you've already heard all the rumors yourself? About your mysterious new lover...?" Mephit's gaze flicked back toward the door before returning to Xiven's gaze with a slightly arched brow. "I just wanted to know a bit more about your new... ah... pet...? in your own words. He didn't seem keen on sharing."
Was she stepping over her boundaries as Xiven's King with this line of questioning? Really, it was in her nature to force secrets out of people but she preferred, for the most part, to stay out of the lives of those she was close to. Getting too attached always ended badly. It wouldn't if you just stopped being so much of a hermit. There, again, that nagging voice that never shut up. Mephit forcefully ignored it, as she always did, and kept her gaze firm with Xiven's.
"I hope, of course, that my questions aren't bothersome, Your Majesty?"

It was hardly overstepping boundaries. The Queen, however, was surprised that Mephit was actually speaking to her on the subject matter. Normally the woman kept distant from the ridiculous rumors but--
Wait... did she just say he wasn't keen on sharing?
Her ears pulled back as she crossed her legs under the desk. "They aren't bothersome. Not in the slightest. I'm just a little bit surprised that you happened to meet my new pet. He's supposed to be locked up in his room but apparently the locks aren't as good as I would have hoped."
Apparently they were going to need a better lock smith. "He's a rather interesting little thing I acquired. A rather skilled assassin and spy despite his menial rank. I hope you can do me a favor and keep the fact that he's a pet under wraps. I would rather have the rumor that he's some sort of lover."
She set her pen in the inkwell, shifting to stand. "Would you like to accompany me to his room?"

Menial rank? Pet? Usually that went hand and hand with Ace, but the boy she'd seen had been... too smart for that, surely? Then again, Aces were occasionally coddled and taught the ways of 'blending in' despite their magical incompetence. A few, she'd heard rumors, had even managed human forms... Perhaps this 'pet' was one of those?
Regardless, she could see the importance of a skilled spy and assassin (especially if he was a shade more obedient than Peaches).
"Is that so? Well, pets are infamous for being too smart for their own good when boredom strikes." Mephit chuckled a little at the comment of secrets. "So the rumors are self made? Or just a convenience of the busy-bodied servants? Either way, Your Majesty, any secret of yours is safe with me."
A sinister smirk slipped over her features. "I'd love to." It would be terribly interesting to hear what thoughts he'd have on her 'tattling'. Mephit just enjoyed the prospect of seeing him punished.

"The rumors were just because the servants needed something to talk about," Xiven rolled her eyes. "I think it started with the damn maids again. They do love to gossip."
And one day she was going to shove one of them down a well. See how much they gossip then. She stood up with a shrug. Right now she was going to deal with that wonderful little bastard Conway. As useful as he was... he was a pain in the ass sometimes. She would just have to discipline him properly.
"Oh good. This way he can't deny what happened if he's smart." Xiven smiled back at Mephit.
It wasn't a particularly long walk. When they arrived she unlocked the door after a bit of fiddling.
Conway was sitting on his bed, reading, and looking terribly innocent. He looked up after he heard that people were walking into his room. A small sign of terror flickered on his face when he noticed who had come to visit.
Xiven and the snake-deer. He pushed down the terror and tilted his head to one side, a curious expression on her face.
"Hello Conway. Have you met Mephit today?" She motioned at the woman before slowly shutting the door behind her.
Conway stared. He wasn't particularly sure if he should respond with the truth or not. He glanced to Mephit before glancing back at Xiven. He edged into the corner of the room.
