Donnie's expression gained an even greater dose of incredulity at the man's words. And anger. Ohh, there was a great deal of anger.
"You are not helping your cause," she snarled at him, drawing back a lip to bare teeth in a distinctly animalistic gesture. She would have dearly preferred to take her biped form for this encounter, but she retained enough sense to know that would be a very poor decision with a red mark splashed across her chest.
"So the Police have been dying in this investigation too?!" she exclaimed, horrified, that fact hitting her just a moment later. If the ability hadn't been steering her towards charm, she would have just told the man to go and fuck himself while running after her daughter. But not quite yet. "And you have known about it for long enough to be testing whatever's killing these people. And still you bring us here, under false pretenses, to try and save you from whatever curse you've brought upon yourself and your people. No, sir. No. I will not stand for this. Spades is invested only inasmuch as you will bring shame upon your suit if this gets out. But if it also gets out that I condone your willful disregard for the safety of your guests and your people in favor of whatever the hell it is you've found... no."
She stood, using the alien strangeness of her human features to stare this man down with hideously angry yellow eyes. Then she turned to glance at McDuck. "You have more of a stake in this than I do. I won't pretend to know your mind and I'm not entirely sure how you want to salvage this situation. But I am going to find my daughter, and then we are leaving this place. If you wish to come, there will be room in the carriage for you."
At which point she turned, approached the door, and kicked at it viciously with her heavily treaded boots until it yielded. It hadn't been made to withstand a Queen. (I asked Nat.)
Then she went to look for her daughter.

Graeme's anger only grew as the man continued to speak, until his eyes were fairly burning with it. His hands gripped the table hard enough to hurt, and his wings were fluffed up behind him. He could barely ever remember being this angry before, and that was really saying something with the famous McDuck temper. The only thing keeping him from doing something really stupid was the fact that the Queen was in the room.
And then she left.
"Ah'll be joining ye, after Ah finish up here," he burred at her, without taking his eyes off the mayor. "Ye'hve done all ye can, ye say?" he began in a dangerously quiet voice, eyes glinting as he moved around the table and walked toward the Mayor. "Did ye think that the Queen of Spades and a prominent businessman could really save yer sorry hide a'this point?" He continued to walk towards the Mayor, collecting his cane and pointing it threateningly at the man in front of him.
"Ah'd think ye'd be a wee bit more worried, considerin' YER a full Selkie! Now, Ah think th'best thing ye can do at this point is t'cut yer losses and get RID of whatever is killin' all these Cards! Forget the economy of th'Lakes, yer nae gonna have any CITIZENS left if ye keep this up! If ye don't listen tae me advice...well..." He made a swipe at the man with his cane, but he didn't actually intend it to hit. His free hand slipped into the pocket of his coat, just in case the Mayor actually decided to fight him. Part of him was angry enough to hope he would. Even if he didn't, Graeme still wanted to smack him for his seeming stupidity.

Mikael had stood there for half a breath as his Queen literally -kicked- down the door, sending it splintering and falling to the ground. The sound brought him to his senses and he quickly scrambled to turn, not giving the mayor so much as a second look.
Rushing after Donnie, nothing but guilt was in his mind. He'd agreed to take on the responsibility of not only watching after Donnie's daughter, but also another child! He -should- have insisted he stayed with them when they'd come back from the tour… or perhaps insisted they send Sophia back home with a servant when they found her stowing away! Now they were in a dangerous situation and they could all very well die.
"Something makes me think -something- about this isn't Selkie specific. I doubt those Capital police were all from this realm." Mikael dared to point out as he loped alongside the Queen, ears swiveling to see if he could hear the children. Still… it all didn't add up. Bringing them on false pretense.. why couldn't they have just asked for help? Why bring -him-? Did he really want a portrait painted in the midst of all this murder or would he play some other role?
These were thinks me might have asked, but it wasn't his place. No, his place was beside Donnie and following her orders. Interrogation would have to wait after they found the kids

((Sophie rolled an 8 to notice her mother's change.... luuuuul.))
In her horror over what her mother had just done, Sophie was oblivious to the change that had occurred. After all, Donnie had just reached out without warning, pulled the fruit growing on Lyr's tree off, and eaten it. Without asking. Sophie stared at Lyr, at the place the fruit had grown, and then frowned somewhat severely. She couldn't exactly scold her mother, but she felt genuine irritation and upset. Her parents had always told them that they had to ask before they picked fruit growing in someone else's yard, and this was fruit growing from a whole person!
It was good to be sent away. It gave the girl a chance to overcome her feelings. Her face was screwed up in concentration as they walked, but that vanished in a second as soon as Lyr started to talk to her.
...What?
Sophie blinked once, slowly. Why was Lyr panicking like that? "W-what? You didn't do anything," she said quickly, trying to soothe the other girl's apparent panic. "I'm the one that messed up by giving you that mask, I'm the one who needs to fix things." Still oblivious to the situation, the Wolverine hybrid heaved a sigh. She had messed up, so terribly... "And then my mom just... picked you like that. I'm so sorry, she should have at least asked...!"

(( As the girls wander outside, something subtly changes... though the change is slow enough that the girls themselves will probably not notice until it is far too late.
The background fades around them until they find themselves walking outside miles away back in front of that awful hotel! The Rising Wing... Looks like some people just went in the door though! Maybe they can slip in and catch up?

Poor Donnie should make it to the rail over the downstairs hallway just in time to watch the pair slowly vanish into a thick mist.))~Nathalia

Hearing Mikael follow in her wake was gratifying for Donnie, who hadn't had a thought for him at all during the confrontation and now belatedly felt a mild sense of guilt. In the same way that the girls had been assigned as his responsibility - but how could her own daughter truly be anyone else's? - he was hers. At least, until her transformation was discovered. He didn't seem to know. Did the duck know? Hell, hell, this was all falling apart so quickly...
"I think you may be on to something," she agreed in a tight, displeased voice as she walked with the Jack. She passed onto the upstairs landing and caught sight of the brightly-colored girls below, the splashes of Yarrow and Villa and Solandrian colors standing out easily. She took a step forward, opened her mouth-
-and left it slack for a few seconds in an utterly undignified gape. Because her daughter had just disappeared.
"SOPHIE!" she screeched, almost flying across the landing and down the stairs in her haste. If she'd been more familiar with the Diamond abilities, she probably would have flown. When she arrived downstairs, however, the mist had dispersed and her daughter and Illyria were nowhere in sight. She stood, panting in genuine terror, eyes flicking every which way and turning in circles like a ninny. Then she stopped, stared straight ahead for a moment, and turned tail to run back up the stairs.
She kept running until she returned to the door she had just kicked open, was over the threshhold and had one hand around the Mayor's throat. Only sheer force of will kept her from transforming. Her human teeth elongated to a terrifying degree in such a squat face and she snarled at the man, displaying as many as she could. "What. Happened. To my daughter."
Tooth Ability: Once a week, this SD is now capable of causing their own teeth to lengthen to twice their size for a full thirty seconds. During this time, their jaw will be excessively flexible and their own teeth are unlikely to damage them.

((The Mayor's face falls almost comically as McDuck tears into him as well. The Highland/Morganberry man had always been famed for being heartless...he had been rather hoping that the Duck would just...overlook things...))
"Sir, i- I realize how bad this looks, but there isn't anything we can do to save ourselves otherwise! If we don't have outside influence, then who is going to help support the Realm!? Everyone else will close us out like the...like the bloody Lowlanders until we all rot and die!" The panic in his voice finally starts to show through as he spreads his hands beseechingly, tail trying to press itself between his legs.
"Do you think I'm not worried?! Sir, there's nothing that I can do! Our Police die, the Police in the Capital don't know what's going on or why and the officers I was in contact with haven't reached back out to us in over a month! I don't know if they thought we were a joke, or-"
Hands were suddenly around his throat. Eyes bulging as his glasses hit the floor with a small tink, his hands scrabbled at her unconsciously as his tongue shot out, struggling to breathe. The sight of the elongating teeth only made his mouth work helplessly as he tried to give the enraged Queen apologies he could no longer voice.

They'd just vanished. How… how could that be? His heart sunk down to the bottom of his ribcage as he whined, sniffing through the filters of his mask as if hoping he could find some trace of them. Nothing… not that his smelling was terribly acute anyways. But desperation made people hopeful. This was horrible. The Queen's daughter wasn't just his charge, but also his very blood. He was her -uncle- damnit! He should have been able to protect her!
It startled him when the Queen turned tail to run back toward the Mayor's room. Oh.. oh this wasn't going to be good. He had to scramble to run after her, nearly turning over one of his delicate fingers in the process. The queen was fast… but not as fast as he'd remembered her being. Not as fast as her spade abilities would allow. It could have easily been assumed that powers might have not had a place in her mind. The thought was quickly erased from his mind as he walked into the room at the sight of Donnie strangling the man.
Oh Suits. She was going to kill him. His voiced pitched up desperately as he tried to get the Queen's attention so she didn't crush the man's throat.
"Your Majesty! Majesty! Donnie, please! You're going to -kill- him!"
Regardless of how much this man had screwed up… doing him irreparable harm was -not- going to find the girls.

Graeme 'Scrooge' McDuck was a miser, it was true. Compassion wasn't very high on his list of priorities. Heartless, however, was too strong a word for his views. Yes, he loved his money more than he loved most people. Yes, he found charity a pointless waste of something he worked hard for. Yes, he had a bit of a temper (which the Mayor was on the receiving end of right now). But he had his limits. This wasn't about the money. This was about the lives of those people who had died for no reason. This was about the hard workers who probably didn't realize what they were getting themselves into.
This was about a business associate lying to him and the Queen of his entire suit and risking all of their lives and reputations under false pretenses. "AND YE THINK GOIN' ABOUT LYIN' IS GOIN' TAE WIN YE ANY FAVORS WITH THE OTHER REALMS?" he exploded at the man, eyes blazing as he took another web-footed step closer to the Major yet. He frowned as the man started going on about the police in the Capital. If Graeme had been any less in the grip of anger, he would have been very worried indeed to hear this news. As it was, he raised his cane over his head, preparing for a swing...
...but the Queen was faster. She was suddenly -there- and her arms were around the Mayor's throat, her teeth lengthening in a way that seemed completely alien in her human face. The Duck paled, slowly lowering his cane, and shuddered as he tried to control himself. Obviously...something unfortunate had become of the children. He let Mikael speak for a moment, as he himself was still angry enough that...well...part of him very much wanted to get a swipe in on the man himself, still. He ground his beak and took a few, deep breaths, trying to get a reign on his temper--not something he was used to having to do until he'd been able to take a bit of it out.

(Rolled 4 for Donnie's reaction.)
The Mayor's face in front of her was grotesque, with his eyes bulging out and his tongue waggling helplessly from his gasping mouth. Donnie's expression took on a measure of disgust while at the same time retaining all of its rage. Her fingers squeezed tighter, leaving bruises that would be a long time in fading.
She heard Mikael through the rushing sound in her ears. Yes. Yes, she was going to kill him. She was going to murder him into the floor. But not until he told her what had happened to her daughter, or gave her some direction to go in order to find her. Someone to talk to. Something. Anything.
She threw him back, ignoring Mikael as she stomped a boot on his chest and stared down at him with yellow eyes that quite clearly bespoke his funeral if he didn't give her exactly what she wanted. Her voice was tight and somewhat slurred as it tried to make its way around her elongated teeth. "My daughter dishappeared. You are a liar. She ish not a Shelkie. There wash misht. WHERE. ISH. SHE."
