Weapons. This was much more cheerful conversation for the Heron. She grinned as her son brought up the idea of a concealable weapon. "You might not want something blunt then. A butterfly knife might be a good idea, or maybe a hunting knife of some sort. Those are the easiest things to carry on your person."
At least that was from her experience with her family. They could always ask the shop keeper would would be good for a bird without hands. She had been able to wield small weapons when she was running around on one leg. Of course she was also a heart so that put a kink in things.
It was a good thing her son was eager to learn from her. Otherwise this would probably be ten times more difficult.
They came to the shop rather quickly. Food would come after they completed this little task. She opened the door for her son with a small grin.

Kaden was also enjoying the conversation switch. Mum was always the best when she was the most cheerful (which was why it was always best to tell her bad news around father, it was hard to stay grumpy around him). However, when Mum was at her best typically turned out into situations like this: a wealth of awesome knowledge.
"A butterfly knife sounds cool. Fast and easy to hide... though blunt weapons are really awesome..." They were just a little hard for a club like him to manage without wings. Mum had surely already though of that, though. Luckily, Kaden was a determined learner. He wanted to prove that he wasn't 'just a club', he was a worthy and capable son of a Heart and a Joker... he was way more than 'just a club'.
As soon as they were in the shop, Kaden's eyes lit up. It had always been his dream (one of the many that he pestered Lore and Hatter over) to own his own Weapon just like his Mum's bat. Today was the day that became a reality. He would let Loreta lead the way and, like a good boy, keep his curiosity (and klepto urges) to himself.

Weapons, Weapons everywhere, but not a shopkeeper in sight. Loreta frowned at the prospect of having to navigate the entire damn place by herself. There were quite a few different weapons here, and she knew full well that some of them were designed for different breeds.
Once her son was inside she let the door slam behind her. Maybe the ass would actually get his act together and show up? Not having much faith she went over to where she knew a few of the smaller weapons were.
"We could get you some brass knuckles designed for birds... they're a pain in the ass to use though." She tapped on the glass. "Come over here and see if you like them. We're not going to buy something that you don't absolutely love and adore. Got that? There's no point in actually wasting my money."
The glass displayed an interesting array of brass knuckles, knives, and the horrific hybrid between both. Along with specialize ones for different breeds.

Kaden followed cheerfully behind his mother, strutting cheerfully through the rows of weapons. His eyes jumped from item to item, absorbing everything with a destructive glee. There were so many things that just obviously required hands and the very sight of them made him curse his useless wings.
He wanted to break things!
Of course, there were plenty of things within his range that he could break things with. Such as the little display case that Loreta had located. He listened obediently to her advice and nodded sagely as he peered into the case. "Y'know I wouldn't do that, mum." If nothing else Kaden believed firmly in the importance of spending as little money as possible - especially in the case where you could get something for 'free'. His gaze finally settled onto the bladed knuckles, blue eyes lighting up. "I bet those could do some damage..." He wiggled his toes, taking into consideration how the knuckles might feel in motion.
"Having my biped would make this so much easier..." He lamented.

Loreta eyed the weapon that he pointed out. Yeah, it could do a some damage if the wearer knew how to use it properly. "Tsk," Loreta said as she looked at her son with narrowed eyes. "I didn't have my bipedal form until late late in life and I had one leg. So don't complain you."
She nudged him slightly before returning to the display case. She tapped on it lightly with one of her human nails. It didn't have quite the effect she wanted. "That would could do the same amount of damage and wouldn't have the massive blade in the way."
It looked almost like a plain set of knuckles. Except on closer inspection the pair of knuckles looked more like a set of cat paws with claws extended. They also had a nice piece so they could strap on and be left forgotten as the grip was slightly smaller than most.

Kaden bumped his mom back and grinned mischievously. "Yeah but you're you, and a Heart." Something he'd always envied, but it was easier to just focus on getting his biped than trying to become something that he was not. He did just fine as himself and caused just enough havoc that it didn't really matter if he was a black suit or a red suit. He could do just fine as a 'useless' club.
When Loreta pointed to a different set of knuckles, smaller and more discreet. That was definitely what he was looking for. They wouldn't know what hit 'em till, well, it hit 'em. "Those would be awesome, less obvious but still effective." He might not be able to handle weapons like his Mum but he'd learned to appreciate them from afar.
Speaking of, he'd like to handle it before he bought it. "Where's the shop keeper anyway?" The lack of supervision made his talon's itch. He hated paying for something that he could get for free and,... no, Mum wouldn't go for the whole grab and run policy.

"So what? Just because I have a tiny advantage doesn't mean you can't learn how to use a damn weapon properly. Their are plenty of people outside of my suit who are masters with weaponry." She rolled her eyes. Common sense. Why didn't her son get any of hers? As much as she loved him she wanted to smack him half the time.
But she could play the good mother most of the time.
"Good question..." she said as she leaned over the counter top. She had been to the shop numerous times. She had met the shop keeper at her bed and breakfast when he came with his wife for a "proper night away from home" so she had actually chatted with the nice fat man.
Maybe he had finally kicked the bucket with all that greasy food he ate.
"Get your ass out here, West!" She shouted.
She was answered by a crashing sound and a curse. Apparently he was in the back of the shop. "Just give me a minute!" a faint cry was returned.
Loreta frowned. It had been more than a minute to begin with.

No matter how great a Mother was, she was always still a Mother. Kaden grinned a little but kept his beak closed. He hadn't particularly meant that he couldn't do it, just that it would be easier. She couldn't say that was wrong, but she could tell him to suck it up and get better at it.
"Heh, Mum, you know I'm not really a dummy. I'll be wielding whatever I take out of here like a Heart in no time." He cracked a playful grin at his mother as he spoke. "With parents like mine what else would you expect of me?" Besides, even if he couldn't do it on his own it wasn't as if he couldn't fix that little snitch with some magical amping.
He paused when Loreta called over the counter, listening in amusement at the resulting crash and the flustered reply. Heh. "Slowpoke." The muttbird chuckled before his gaze was drawn back down to the case before him. So many options with so many little variations. Maybe he could find something with a good heel spike too?
The 'just a minute' was just long enough for Kaden's gaze to start wandering as he peered down the isles at other display cases.

Loreta shrugged. "Sometimes I wonder, ya know. I just hope you're as smart as your father."
She tapped on the glass impatiently. He was taking long enough in the back that she could have cooked an entire three course meal. What had happened to decent customer service?
The woman was about to yell again when the man finally appeared. The neon blue colored Corvie Quail came into the room holding a large package. His goggles were around his neck, and his coat was hanging off at an awkward angle. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the woman.
He was terribly overweight for such a tiny bird.
"Loreta! It's nice to see you," he said as he placed the package on a counter top behind the display cases. "So what can I do to help a wonderful cook like yourself, herm?"
"Could you cut the crap and show my son some of your weapons up close?"
"Ah... anything for such a wonderful customer." He said with a faint smile.

Honestly, Kaden was pretty certain he wasn't anywhere near as smart as his father and he didn't have the crazy man's charm either. What Kaden had was good ol' fashioned street smarts. The muttbird grinned at his mom but was thankfully saved from having to say anything when West finally appeared. Of course, that filled his world with a whole new lot of temptations. Like slamming the man with a dozen questions about his package and what was in it and why in all the suits was he so disheveled. Had he been doing something 'naughty' back there?
Kaden's grin widened but his beak stayed shut for his mother's benefit. He didn't want to sour her mood by doing something silly like embarrassing her. Must be bad enough that he was a Club and occasionally an idiot.
"Yo West." Was all Kaden allowed himself before shifting over so that the horribly fat Quail could come open up the display cases. "Yeah, I like these knuckles with the claws." He flexed his talons for eagerly.
