The Quail's face took a rather sour expression, but he seemed to brush off the disrespectful comments of both the heron and her son. He walked over to the display case and unlocked it rather quickly.
He picked up the weapon and offered it to the boy.
Loreta eyed the various weapons for anything else the boy might be capable of using. Brass knuckles seemed like the best bet with the least about of training. Of course he could always try to wield a sword or knife. The thought made Loreta cringe slightly.
Her son with something sharp and pointy. That was an accident waiting to happen. She could only imagine the amount of horrible damage he would be capable of creating. Even the set of brass knuckles that had a hidden compartment for a knife seemed like a bad idea.
"How does it feel?" Loreta asked her son.

Once the knuckles were handed over to him, Kaden was oblivious to everything. To his Mother's cringing concern or the Quail's sour expression, there was nothing but vibrant joy in his bright eyes. He tried the knuckles on, tested his weight on them, and then his range of motion. It was a good start. He was still a little clumsy with it, but his movements were fluid enough and the rings didn't disrupt his balance or movement.
Very nice. Very discrete. With a little effort and a little tweaking, Kaden could pack a lot of punch in these little knuckles.
He wiggled his toes, beak cracked wide in a huge grin. "I like 'em. They fit well, move well. I could definitely get used to these." His gaze scanned the display case once more, lingering on some of the bladed knuckles. He'd wait... he could modify his own pair if necessary. His feathers fluffed up cheerfully and he pulled the knuckles off, tilting his gaze toward the Quail once more. "We'll take these."

Fantastic. Her son had found something that worked and was practical. Maybe he would show a bit of caution with his new weapons.
She doubted it, and didn't get her hopes up. "Bag 'em for us, would you?" She said brightly to the Quail.
With a cordial smile the man waddle over to one of the counters, producing a rather nice case for the weapons. He offered the box to the young man, waiting for him to set the weapons into the container. Once that was said and done he waddled over to his cash register.
"That will be 50 gold, ma'am," He said as he waited with an outstretched hand for the heron to pay him.
She scowled. Really? That much? She scoffed as she pulled out her money purse. "Do you seriously expect me to pay full price. That's a rip off." Maybe she would start charging him extra when he came in for food, huh?
He frowned. "Fine. 30."
Loreta still looked disgruntled.

Kaden slipped the knuckles into their case with an approving nod and a short 'thanks' before following his mum over to the cash register.
It was terribly interesting to listen to his mother 'haggling' with the Quail and just as amusing to watch the disgruntled expressions exchanged between them. She knew how to get her way and, even with the discount, she still looked like she could take the man's life for making her may a penny over nothing. A wide grin cracked his beak and Kaden resisted a snicker. This was surely where he'd gotten his own 'thriftiness' from, Hatter never seemed to mind paying top dollar when he liked something.
Despite his grin, he kept quiet and stood behind his mom as she bullied the price down to 30. Not quite half price, but it was still a good discount. Once everything was done and paid for, Kaden retrieved his case from the counter and tucked it under his wing. "After you."

Loreta dished out the money, her face still sour as she watched the man wrap the brass knuckles and offer them to her. She took them and slipped the package under her arm. She'd give it to kaden once they were out of here.
She thanked her son for opening the door for her. Manners. At least she had taught him some. Once they were far enough away she offered her son the package just in case he wanted to carry it around. "To lunch then?" It was less of a question and more of a direction. There weren't that many decent places in this part of Corvistowne where they could go to lunch, but this was going to be a nice little outing regardless. "Do you want to go to the shoppe to have lunch for that sandwich place? And perhaps we could have ice cream after that?"

Kaden loved his mother. She could be a bit corrosive to some people, but he found the acid bite in her personality endearing and entertaining. Apparently he had inherited that fondness from his father; they'd laughed about it more than once.
Outside, he tilted his head thoughtfully. It was weird to imagine eating out with mum instead of eating her cooking, nothing really compared, but it seemed nice to give her the day off. Maybe treat her to lunch since she'd done him the kindness of buying him a fancy new kickass weapon. Besides, he didn't get nearly enough time to dote on his mother as he would've liked.
"That sandwich place sounds great." His grin doubled. "And ice cream after that sounds even better. Lunch and dessert are on me, 'kay? My treat." He fluffed up happily, both sets of wings ruffling before settling once more.
