"Weird stuff everywhere." Kendra muttered. Although she listened politely enough to the suggestions of attic and outside, this was the first she had heard about oil (well, to be fair, if she had ever heard anything about.... anything, she couldn't remember it.) and she wasn't about to vanish off to parts unknown without at least telling Kaden and company where she was going. The attic was at least more feasible, and it helped considerably that they actually knew how to get there. "Attic, that's a pretty good idea." She told Sophie. Then she gave Lyr the gentlest possible smile. Poor, pretty thing looked terribly uncomfortable, didn't she?
"If it's okay with you both, I want to go back upstairs and see what Kaden is up to. We came together, and this place is kinda scary, y'know?" Just then, a booming Benyan voice came down the stairs. The idea of food was most appealing, and the tone not at all threatening, so Kendra scampered eagerly up the steps again to join the group.
When Kaden set her down, Alicia cooperated, just grateful not to be held any more. She was surprised how gently the card treated her. It was almost like... like he wasn't a horrible monster, even though his appearance was quite grotesque. When he offered her food she nodded silently, attempting a smile, although it came out forced. "Thank you." Alicia's hyper-feminine voice was almost high enough to be that of a child, and she pitched it up a little extra. How old would a card child be at her size? She couldn't even imagine. This was going to be some tale to tell the other leverets some day. Alicia tried to console herself and sooth her bruised ego with the thought of telling Aleah that now she had first-hand dealing with cards, too! The leveret listened carefully to Suvius' words and ate just a few of the offered chips-- such greasy food was terrible for one's figure!
"Hello." Kendra entered the room and glanced curiously at the matched set of Benyans, the odd-looking child and the rabbit, who seemed outwardly content as she nibbled a chip in almost absurdly dainty bites. There was also a rather considerable collection of random food in the room, and everyone seemed to be munching. So. Weird. "I'm Kendra. Um... what's up?"

He grinned a little at Suivus's mixed intrigue and disgust and he leaned forward with a wide grin stretched over his beak. "Yeah, a Lowlander. Real bizarre thing, this one. Missing his entire lower half and skewered with massive spikes. Unlike anything I've ever seen and just looking for a fight. He took my toe but my buddy took him down." Oh Eurwen, she was bloody epic. Hopefully she was doing alright or, even better, having a good time with Ayden.
Suivus's impatience was shared by Kaden, but he'd never been known to be the patient sort. Not to mention he was rather curious about whomever Kendra had been talking to before he scampered inside...
Kaden's attention fizzled out as the conversation switched to Selkies and the extreme Benyan bias against them. Whatever, it wasn't really his problem nor his cup of tea. His wandering gaze fell upon a little vial tucked hastily on a nearby shelf and his brow arched in intrigue. Oooo, what was that? It looked as if someone had been trying to hide it and failed, quite blatantly. He had nearly reached out to grab it when Jordan's mention of a fun time drew his attention back to the woman.
"Thank you very much, Miss Suvius." He flashed her his most charming grin. "You're a lovely woman yourself." And Jordan, for that matter. He winked at the ladies. "I'm actually only part, got a bit of Torque but I'm not the usual sort if you don't mind me sayin'." He chuckled. "I'm definitely up for some adventure."
He waved cheerfully at Kendra when she entered and allowed his attention to drift back to the vial on the shelf... Hmmm. He discretely reached out and grabbed it. Maybe it'd have something neat in it?

Brandy… oh you poor dear.. always distracted. He'd stopped to eye a nice painting outside the room before finally wandering into the get-together. All this talk about monsters sound like a load of phooey. Honestly, the whole lot were probably talking of old wive's tales. He examined his nails from the doorway, striking a rather subconscious pose as he often would while waiting for a proper Jane to approach him.
The smell of sardines.. yuck. His nose wrinkled and he seemed near about to say something, but opted to keep his mouth shut when he saw with what relish those Benyans seemed to enjoy it. Oh.. gross. He knew who he wouldn't be picking up for a date unless they brushed their teeth beforehand! Not that picking people up should be on the forefront of his list of things to do. Business before pleasure.. and there was no business for manwhores on the road. Not the classy ones, anyhow.
"Ooo, a lakefront stroll? Are we all invited?"
((Sorry about that. Didn't realize how terribly far behind I'd gotten on my posts.))

((Kaden's attempts with the little vial seem to have been handled...poorly.
"Oi! Watch it, y'damn hot-ass! I only jus' foun' dat outt'n de back!" Suvius yelped, making a grab for the potion right as it upended all over the Bird.
The liquid smoked and snake out of sight in feathers and fur, leaving the Corvie-mix on fire with pins and needles as his body began to warp and change.
Suvius sat back, wide-eyed and glad as all get-out that she hadn't just tried a taste of the thing like Juall had said to earlier. "Well...lookit dat." She muttered, gingerly leaning away, afraid to be hit too. "Though I cannae say it looks bad on yeh, Kaden. Right goes wit' de colors, I'd say." She gave the man an appraising look. He was rather attractive.))~Nathalia

It was a challenge, staying uneasy or mad or whatever for too long. This impromptu gathering made Jordan think of home, and that helped to relax her bones more than just a little. Her ears twitched, angling so she could listen to whatever Suvius was saying without completely losing focus of the rest of the world... As much as she wanted to just drown out everything else and let the relaxation take her, she felt she had to be at least somewhat aware of things. Just so that if something happened, she wouldn't be caught by surprise.
Too badly.
The sight of Suvius opening a drink made Jordan feel thirsty, all of a sudden, and she fumbled with it. It threatened to blow off in her hands but she was quick, and slurped down the fizz as it bubbled up. Then she leaned back, smacking her lips. "Aaahhh. Jus' wha' I needed ta make de soul happy.[/b]" She raised an eyebrow, a fang glinting from her grin. "I get de feelin' you're gonna be givin' us a bit more excitement, yea?[/b]"
That would be in the proper Benyan style of things, it would. She reached out a paw, clearly indicating that she would like the woman to share the delicious little fishy snacks. Only thing that could be better would be some of that shrimp-paste they could sometimes get, mid-summer. She chuckled darkly. "I'm lookin' forward to it, very much so.[/b]" She settled down into the chair and slurped happily at her drink.
Then yelped as well, at the sudden commotion. She stared wide-eyed at Kaden, blinking a few times to clear her mind and help process what she saw... Then grinned. "Dat's quite fetchin', I says,[/b]" she murmured lowly, trying to catch Suvius's eyes and wiggling her eyebrows. Then she stood, stretching out her long body, and strolled casually towards the bathroom. "Got drink on my hands. Gotta get dat out a'fore it gets all sticky, ya?[/b]"
This really was the fanciest room they could find, wasn't it? The bathroom was huge, and fancily decorated with pearls and other baubles. Jordan sneered at a candle, noting with distinct disapproval that it had been littered with shining, translucent rocks and was sitting in a pile of more of them - that was just too extreme. She set about washing the stickiness from her fur, looking down at the candle and the rocks. Well. They were a little pretty, weren't they? Reaching out, she picked up one of the little rocks (it had an almost blue-green iridescence to it, deep down in the middle), deciding that she'd keep it. As a souvenir, for her troubles. Then she strolled back out. Standing in the doorway, she looked at the others, noting that the pack of little girls that had come busting into the hotel were now in the room.
"Sun's goin' down,[/b]" she remarked casually, trying not to seem too eager.
~~~
For the most part, Sophie was silent, just listening to the conversation and considering her own words very carefully. She didn't want to sound dumb, after all - and it seemed that what she'd said seemed at least somewhat well-received. They would further investigate the attic, then. And no matter what, anything she found would not be gifted to anyone.
When they moved towards the room, Sophie turned back to Lyr. "I think we'll go back outside soon. But there's other people here, and there must be some adults. They'd be better suited to find the Mayor's house, I think." She blushed, looking away. Why did she suddenly feel so relieved at finding other people? She was brave, and strong... Right? "...Either way, it's better to be in a group, I think." And a group they were in. A big one. Sophie's legs felt suddenly stiff as she looked in the room, seeing all the unfamiliar faces, and she forced herself to step inside.
Wow, this was harder than it should be. Her ears lowered. "I'm Sophie. We got separated from my Mom." Blunt as ever. Sophie was a master of interpersonal communication, there could be no doubt.
Kendra stood nibbling a pear and sipping a fizzy drink from the generous Benyan's stash as a moonlight stroll was discussed among the group. She eagerly agreed to join in; a walk along the lakeshore in the fresh breeze was rather appealing, even if she did feel that there was some sort of subtext between the Benyans that she was entirely missing.
Well, she didn't need to be in on everything. It looked like they were going to let her come along, and that was enough for her. "I hope no one minds... I was hoping we might help Sophie and Lyr here get back to their families? Maybe send a message or something?" She was cut short as something happened to Kaden. How very strange... not unappealing though, she had to agree with the Benyan ladies there.
Alicia's ears perked up Kaden's body began to change. It looked painful, which was a good for her purposes, as it make quite certain that all attention was focused on him. This was exactly the kind of opening she had been waiting for, a distraction coming after she had lulled them into a false sense of security with docile behavior. Suddenly, she sprang from the chair and made a break for the door. Unfortunately, she hadn't banked on a heavyset card child partially blocking the open door way.
As a leveret, she was built for agile speed, but if Sophie saw her coming in time and cared to make a capture, she might be able to block or shut the door in time... Alicia had started her bid for freedom, and there was nothing to be gained by backing down now. She kicked up her long back feet and tried to dodge Sophie and escape down the stairs.
((Alicia rolled a 13 for the escape. I think that could go either way, so... Nat?))
Kaden jerked back but it was far too late (and, really, the motion probably made it worse) as the potion uncorked and dumped all over him. He flashed Suivus his very best bashful grin before the potion absorbed into his feathers and a sudden fire flashed through him. The boy's bright green eyes went wide and he choked back a horrified sound at the pain.
He'd gotten his ass beat on more than one occasion but wow!
His talons clenched the floor, cutting thin grooves before he relented and shook himself. The pain had faded? He twisted a bit, turning his head from side to side. Something... felt very different. However, considering the appreciative looks he was getting from the Benyan ladies and even miss Kendra, he couldn't imagine the result was that bad. His grin returned in full, looking content and a bit smug.
"Well, if I look better for it than there's no complaints from me!" He wiggled his brows at the girls.
In his distraction he hadn't fully realized they'd been joined by two new individuals or that Alicia was preparing for her escape until the rabbit had booked it and was nearly at the door. He cursed without realizing the word had left his beak. "Someone catch her!" There were two girls (hopefully) blocking the rabbit's escape that would be able to tackle the leveret before she could burst through the door.
((Suvius glanced out the window...seemingly torn between hesitation and excitement. The excitement wins out. "A'righ', Jordan, mate. C'mon, I'm happy t'show anyone who'd like tae see, jus' keep it t'yerselves, y'ken?"
She'd just begun unraveling herself when the Bird's kid bolted. "Oi! Git kid!" She yelled, unhelpfully, slithering upright and making to give chase. Something falls out of her pocket and onto the seat...looks like a photograph...I wonder if anyone will be sneaky enough to grab it? Suvius's eyes focus on the bulky girl, Sophie? As she tries to head the Bird's kid off into the girl and her group, hoping they'd catch her. Sadly, Alicia's incredibly legs gave her the impetuous to jump and kick better than any of them would have been able to expect, and whether they grabbed a hunk of fur or not, the Rabbit would escape outside. "Damn! You gott a fast kid, dere!" She shouted, motioning everyone. "Come on! We'll see dat ting I wanna show yehs after we catch de kid!" She called, rushing down the stairs after the flash of white and grinning with the pleasure of a chase.)) Jordan seems to have found something: Odd Pebble: This smooth rock tingles a bit and gives the owner the strong compulsion to swallow the thing. They can resist the urge, but wow...how weird. Wonder what it does? This item is not automatically assigned and can be traded away.
Brandy, sidling his way to the food tray, jumped out of the way when the others began to make a mad dash for the kid. It had helped that Brandy had just happened to be checking out the Benyan's pleasant posterior when the photo fell. ((Rolled a sweet, sweet 20)) Oh.. what was that? He hastened to pick it up, intent on giving it back to the lady when all this craziness was over with. He'd give the picture a glance before placing it in the bra portion of his top for safe keeping. He didn't have the natural assets to actually fill the top, but it certainly made for good pockets.
"Oh dear, I am -not- in the right form to be chasing around youngsters!" He sighed dramatically, mincing along after the group. Not the right form indeed, but one wasn't going to see him changing into that less savory form. That would cost -extra-.
At the invitation for a moonlit walk, Kendra nodded enthusiastically. Whatever Suvius had, it was a sort of secret. That likely meant that it was something interesting, exciting or shocking-- not a sight she wanted to miss out on at all. "A walk sounds nice. I could use the exercise after that long carriage ride." It was true, perhaps not the entire truth, but the girl wasn't eager to come right out and admit that she was completely unable to pass up a chance to be in on something secret.
"Hey!" She cried as a white and gold body shot past her. By the time she said, "Alicia, stop!" The bunny was well out of the room and part way down the stairs.
The Highlands leveret's face split in a wild grin as she realized that she had eluded her captors and made good her escape. For creatures of such purported magic, Cards really were awfully dull and slow. She had fooled them with a trick so basic she was almost embarrassed for them.
Giggling in a way that wasn't entirely nice, she made for the front door and freedom. Stupid, stupid cards! She'd be back in the highlands with the Czar before they ever bumbled their clumsy way out of the inn!
The front door slowed her down slightly but she still had it open and dashed out by the time her closest pursuer made it down the steps. She kicked it closed behind her. Even if it didn't slow the larger cards as much as it had her, she would gladly take any advantages she could get.
With no real idea which direction to run, Alicia selected one at random and dashed down toward the river.
