"Awesom'," Jordan said with a widening grin, walking jauntily back into the room and towards the other Benyan. The two of them were quite a pair, they were. She felt emboldened by the cunning of the other woman, excited for a good prank. It had been so long since she'd just had fun, her focus had always been so strongly on business!
When a white, red, and gold blur shot by her, the Marten had taken a moment to process what had just happened. People were shouting about a kid, but there was no kid, just a freaksy... RIGHT! She shouted, lunged for the Rabbit, and missed, watching helplessly as their captive bolted down the stairs.
Then she saw the look in Suvius's eyes and her mouth curled into a feral grin. The hunt was on. She was odd for a Spade, in that she could actually run faster over a longer distance, but... That was exactly what was needed. The magic kicked in, and Jordan flew after the Rabbit, her Mustelid bones giving her a natural inclination towards speed.
There was time only for Sophie to give the other girl, the pretty Corvie - Kendra, her name was? - a grateful smile before there was a child barging for her. The bulky child stared open-mouthed for a second and then heard voices shouting for her to catch it - she lunged, but was nowhere near fast enough to keep up, and even then, she had not been expecting a jump like that (8)! She grunted as she tried to turn around, knocked from side to side by the larger forms that rushed past, then found her footing again, along with her magic. Sophie was not elegant. But she was fast.
Fast enough to overtake the other Spade-powered Mustelid, the girl moved faster than should have been natural. The doors in front of her slammed shut, and she lowered her head - this was going to hurt, but she had bulk and muscle on her side, along with her speed. Sophie crashed into the door and it blew off its hinges (19), only slowing her down a little and leaving the way behind her wide open. She could feel her body straining to keep up that momentum, and she went as long as she could after the kid - then slowed, panting heavily ((10)). She hadn't caught it, but maybe the others would be able to, with the advantage she'd given them...
Jordan was right behind the Wolverine hybrid, marveling over that incredible burst of speed and wishing for a moment that she'd been able to do that. But once she was outside, following in the girl's destructive path and then finally catching up with (and finally, overtaking) Sophie, Jordan felt a small surge of pride. Her body was doing just fine. She would be able to keep this speed up for a long time, much longer than a Rabbit. She assumed. As the distance between herself and her target closed, Jordan lunged forward, claws extended, to try and catch their "prey" (18).

Kaden let out a glorious whoop of pure excitement as the Spades took off like rockets, vanishing out the door as he burst into eager chase. He may have been just a Club and an odd mix of birds at that but he was built for running. He burst through the door after the others, cleared the stairs with a half-gliding leap, and landed rough but soundly at the base as Sophie literally broke down the door.
"Hot damn!" He called with a hilarious squawk of laughter. Jordan overtook the younger girl soon, seeming to pick up speed as she went whereas Sophie was loosing her impossible burst rather quickly.
He passed her, a wild grin cracking his beak wide. He hadn't had this much fun... Well, for a bit now! This was perfect, the best way to stretch his legs after a long ride and too much seriousness.
Up ahead, Jordan seemed to be closing in on the rabbit and, finally, pounced. It wouldn't be until she was caught (if she was caught), that Kaden would remember that they were chasing a rabbit and that he'd been trying to keep that a secret. Oh well.

The other Benyan woman seemed entertaining like Suvius, but not as creative. At least, she hadn't done anything to impress Uluani yet. When Kaden described the monstrous Lowlander, though, she paid attention out of mild interest. The creature sounded gruesome and violent enough to be interesting. What a mess.
Reaching into the crinkling bag, she pulled out a paw-ful of crunchy snacks and chewed mindlessly as the others talked. Her bed was her space and as long as they didn't get too close, she'd be content to watch what was going on and hear what was being said. Juall seemed likewise entertained, though he muttered one or two things in her ear that made her grin with a decidedly amused and toothy expression.
And then the idiot bird went and- what, really? Really?! At least the result was... interesting enough. An attractive hood, certainly. Reminded her of a snake with that neck, but did snakes have skin like that? She thought she remembered something... hard to say.
In the meantime, the bastard's kid took off. She couldn't help but laugh. Was it a little Corvie "test subject", then, eager to escape from its dreaded "scientist"? She'd heard about those. Or just a bitch of a child set to make life miserable for its parent. She could relate. If her mother had been different, perhaps she would have tried to pull the same sort of aggravatingly childish stunt.
She stayed on her bed, listening to the commotion outside, munching on her snacks. Her tail slowly flicked from side to side and she reflected on the fact that she was maybe a little bit high just then. She'd only smoked a small joint a little bit ago, one of the tiny things she kept inside Juall's skull for "dry periods" in the Capital. Harder to find the fingers here and she wanted a stash with her. She'd offered one to Suvius and the woman had dubiously refused. Whatever. More for her.
Maybe when the mess outside calmed down, she'd deign to hop out and follow after them all.

Kendra let out a squeak of surprise as the other Spades bolted from the room. My, but they were fast! That was really quite impressive- oh, wait. Kendra activated her own speed and followed the others. It was odd that she both felt like this was the first time she had ever used this exhilarating burst of speed, and at the same time knew how impossible it was that a card could be her age and never have used her most basic spell. (How old was she really, anyhow? She felt that she was fifteen, but couldn't recall turning 15, or ever being 14...)
Outside, the leveret slowed her breathless pace, sure that she had well outstripped the more heavily-built cards. She was running at a more sustainable pace along the riverbanks when she heard the pounding of heavy footfalls behind her-- close behind. It seemed that cards could run with impossible speed, and that Benyan mustilid was coming at her like a furry freight train. She squealed and picked up her pace again, skittering over the smooth pebbles at the edge of the water and dodging cattail stems. At one point she stepped on something sharpish-- maybe a stick, and faltered a little before rushing onward. With Jordon and Sophie gaining ground as she quickly tired, the rabbit's eyes were wide and breath came in desperate gasps, little nose twitching wildly.
Short ferret legs churning beneath her, Kendra arrived on the scene just in time to see Jordan's claws close over a squealing and struggling Alicia. The rabbit had tried to go to ground in a clump of long grass, her meager stamina spent, but the Benyan card's large paw pinned her to the damp earth, and she could feel pebbles digging into her stomach. She would do her best to get in a few good kicks before she was entirely worn out. (11)
"Don't squish her!" Kendra warned, skidding to a stop beside Jordon and the thrashing rabbit. "Alicia, calm down. We aren't planning to eat you or anything." The corvie was not at all surprised when her words were entirely ignored. She shook her head ruefully, silken mane swaying.
That small creature certainly had spunk. A bit of a temper too, she suspected. Kendra wouldn't mind running a few tests on the rabbit-- maybe Kaden would consent to share her?
Basic Magical Ability: She can run up to 40mph in sprints and 20mph for up to an hour in extended runs.

((Suvius bounded out after the group, looking pleased and panting a little, watching the child squirm in Jordan's claws. "Ha! Not bad, mate, like ter see 'er get outta that'n eh?" She asked, strolling over and giving the kid a saccharine smile to emphasize her helplessness and then turning back to the group. "Well, whatever. We be out now, an' th' sun is down dere. Wanna see, now?" She asked, gesturing to the river as her little pallie sauntered out toward them all, she winked at the girl. She whistled appreciatively at the Yarrow mixed girl, clapping a little. "Yer both faster den I'd have thought, now. I cannae believe it, your name were Sophie? I'm impressed, girl. Truly." She said happily, handing her a small trinket...looked like a little metal figure of a Fox with an eye-patch... Shaking out her head, so that her barbels slapped her cheeks, she grinned as everyone converged. "Righ', Kaden, mate. 'Old on tae yer kid. Let's go den, de river's be where I'm headed. c'mon!" She looked incredibly in the mood for a bout of fun, a lovable trickster, happily barreling down the field banks to a swift flowing river behind the hotel. The river is well-kept, obviously a nice feature of the Rising Wing, the sides have lovely flowers, hedges, all well-trimmed and grown, lining the sides, and the back garden of the hotel itself can be seen up on the hill. Stepping stones have been placed strategically all along the banks, and a cute bridge goes up over the water. Jordan plonks down on one of the stepping stones near the middle of the river, and pulls a little vial out of her shirt pocket, grinning, waiting for everyone to come on over. She had a good batch of fun-lovers and Selkie-haters! This would be wonderful.))
Small Figure: This little tin figurine looks like a Biped Fox wearing an eye-patch, how cute! It tingles a little when touched, but doesn't seem to do anything...wonder what it is? This item is not automatically assigned and can be traded or given away.

The muttbird let out another cheerful whoop as Jordan caught the rabbit and skidded to a halt with the rest of the group. He was grinning and panting. "Good job, Jordan!"
From the corner of his eye, Kaden noticed Suivus hand something to the young Yarrow girl and (always the curious one) he turned to see what exactly he was. What he saw made his cheerful grin fall ever so slightly and his brows knit together in confusion. It was a tiny figurine that, in most cases, Kaden might've thought rather cute for a little girl like Sophie... Except it looked strikingly like a man he'd seen murdered earlier that day. A man that he had also had a rather rough scuffle with.
He looked away and tried hard not to stare at the likeness as his mind began to churn with questions.
Had that man been someone important? Did Suivus know him? That would be terribly unfortunate considering he was currently toting around the fallen man's eye patch. She surely wouldn't take well to that.
But he had other things to focus on and, when addressed, Kaden snapped back to attention with his usual bright grin. "Aye!" He hopped over and sprung up onto his spider limbs to free up his talons. When Jordan relented the rabbit, Kaden swooped in to snatch the Rabbit back up. (17) He received a small kick in relation but it didn't bother him much. "'Ey, little friend, shouldn'ta tried to run like that. Not like I want to drag you around like this." He nearly tilted his head upside to look at her and offer her a wry grin before returning his attention to the group as they trotted off.
At the riverside, Kaden paid little attention to how attractive the shore was and far more attention to what Suivus was doing. What could be in that vial? He cocked his head to the side slightly in curiosity, waiting.

The sounds outside of the hotel window seemed to calm down after another moment. Uluani twitched her tail a few times, debating, before shoving one last mouthful of crunchies into her muzzle and sliding off the bed.
"Think they all jest effin' died?" Juall asked idly.
"No," she responded with a flat and bored-sounding syllable. When she'd finally made it outside, she had a little more walking than she expected to catch up with the rest of them. Huh. Little bugger must have run like hell. Least they caught it, for the parent slash scientist slash captor's sake.
She moved up near Suvius, looking askance at the rest of them before grinning like a fiend. "Finally. Took ye long enough t'get t'this part." She flicked her tail up and over her back, made sure her floating skull wasn't going to ruin what would hopefully be a good mood - though he might anyway - and followed the Benyan to a pretty-pretty river.
Pff. Boring as shit. How could anybody travel to see this manicured blandness? She rolled her eyes, following on the stepping stones, and waits eagerly for the show.

With a thrill filling her that could only come from satisfaction of some of the most primitive of instincts, Jordan let out another whoop of excitement as she clutched her prize - as gently as she could manage without giving the Rabbit a chance to escape again. It struggled against her for a moment, and the woman yelped as she felt claws rake through her forearms and cut the flesh before she could get a better hold on the funny creature and better hold her down (10 for avoiding kicks). She grunted, then leaned in to whisper in Alicia's ear.
"Look now, I kin dat dis is all rather nasty for ya, yea? But tink of it like dis - de whole world's gone crazy, and dere's no guarantee out dere. We already know abou' toe-eatin' rotters, who knows what else migh' be lookin' for a bun-snack.[/b]" She tried not to sneer, clearly miffed by her slashed-up arm. "Wit' us, you've got a much better idea of wha's gonna go down, so sit de hell down and be quiet.[/b]" Her expression was one of relief when Kaden caught up, and she happily transferred the Rabbit to him, giving her the hairy eyeball before turning back to Suvius.
That giddiness from before returned quickly as they made their way down to the river, her smile spreading quickly across her muzzle. As Suvius moved across the stepping-stones, Jordan sat down on the edge, rearing back onto her haunches and resting her forepaws on her belly, the position making her a bit taller and giving her a better view. "What's dat 'cha got dere?[/b]" She asked, indicating the vial in the other Marten's hand, head tilting to the side in a clear sign of curiosity.
Oh, Suits, her lungs were burning something fierce. If not for the ability, Sophie would never move fast. Ever. She might crash through a door, but... Her body was naturally more inclined towards power than speed and now that the magic had worn off she was feeling the strain. She jumped slightly when Suvius appeared behind her, turning wide eyes up to the Benyan woman. She looked so much like the other one... Maybe they were siblings? They sure seemed to be on the same mental-wavelength.
"S-sophie, yeah," she answered quietly, looking at the air directly to the right of the woman's face, having trouble making eye contact. She was still panting, but her breathing was slowly returning to normal. "...thanks. I didn't want her to get away. It's dangerous to be alone." Her face was set in a crooked look, pride starting to bubble up inside of her. She'd messed up so badly before, but now... She was doing better, now, wasn't she?
Her eyes widened briefly as something was given to her, and she fumbled with it for a moment, trying to get a better look at it. Such a strange little thing! But it was neat, the details lovely. She realized that Kaden was staring at it and she tucked it away, looking flustered. Then, making sure Lyr had made it down with the rest of the group, she followed after. "They'll get us to my mom again after they do... Whatever they're doing."

Alicia eyed Jordan with disdain and defiance equally mixed, quite a feat for one so small and unimposing. Ridiculous card. She really hadn't the slightest idea what was going to 'go down', as the martin so inelegantly put it, and the only indication she had that the cards were trustworthy was that they had yet to harm her. Meager comfort, really. "As it seems I have no other choice, I will cooperate with you. For now." She hissed, her affectedly cultured voice high and thin with suppressed anger. "Be advised, however, that Czar Vikenti will not take a lenient view of this indignity, and a Jack's anger is quite terrible."
In truth, the Czar would probably not think a mere leveret, even a pretty and useful one, worth the trouble of searching out. Certainly not worth fighting off a whole pack of cards. Likely he hadn't even noticed her missing, except in the sense that his breakfast was likely delayed and not cooked quite as he liked it, and no fresh flowers had been put in his study, nor the hallways swept. Unless one of the other leverets had picked up the slack. Yes, she was totally replaceable. No one missed her for anything more than her superior cleaning skills. It was more this disheartening thought than Jordan's words that made her go limp, unresisting in Kaden's arms. There wasn't anyone at home waiting, loving or needing her. Why had she bothered to even try and go back there, again?
She sighed heavily, quite pained by the revelation that she was disposable, however belatedly the realization took place. Her whiskers drooped miserably.
Kendra was relieved to see the rabbit had been recaptured. It would have been a waste to let it go, and while the chase was more than a little fun, she was more than eager to see what it was that Suvius was up to. It was a pretty area, and she was pleased enough to follow, taking a brief moment to appreciate the countryside which had been so carefully landscaped.
The ferret skipped lightly along the stepping stones to sit on the one just beyond Suvius, eying the small glass container. Had she been... poisoning the river? That was a rather dreadful thought. The woman must be quite unhinged! A Benyan should know that all water was ultimately connected in one way or another, and that anything that happened to the ponds in Selkie Lakes would in turn affect her beloved homelands, even if in a diluted way. That was just common sense, as the waters of this realm flowed outward, eventually ending up in Benyan country.

((Suvius chuckled at the odd look scrawled on Kendra's face. "Not much one up for de dastardly deeds, are yeh, miz Kendra?" She called, jokingly. "Yeh'll like it once yeh see whit it kin do, eh?" Suvius curled her tail about her legs and struck a pose, shaking the little bottle. "Aye, what be it indeed? Yeh'll be wunnerin' what kind of idjit would poison one o'de biggest world-runnin' lakes of all de times we had here? Well, my kin 'n I got dis fixed by, so we did. T'll only take issue wit' de Selkies. Dat's de beauty of it. Targets de genes like, y'ken?" She shook it lightly again, grinning to her little pallie on the shore. "All it takes is de littlest bit o'dis. Jus' watch!" She crowed, pulling out the stopper and pouring a few drops of what looked to be an oily black liquid into the water.
The river roiled for a few seconds, seemed to shiver, and then went back to normal. Suvius grinned. "T'would be better iffin' we had a Selkie ter test it on, but trust me pallie 'n me, we've watched it bein' tested. Still, got dis'." She pulled something out of her satchel. A pelt. She showed of the Ace of Diamonds symbol on the pretty Selkie fur proudly. "Got a bit o'dis 'ere t'make y'all see whit I mean, eh?" Delight etched onto her features, she dunked the pelt into the water.
The effect was immediate. The fur slowly changed the white being highlighted with off brown-shading, the rings slowly changing yellow before their very eyes...a nasty, sickly color; not like the Morganberry brightness of the silky Yarrow colors at all. Dark stains and the heavy smell of ink permeated everything...even the gloss of the fur was lost as it took on a flat, rumpled look of something unkempt and ugly. Grinning, Suvius tossed it to Kaden. "Dere, pretty boyo. Dat's fer you, en't it?" She called, giving the Bird a wink and a teasing little grin. He had a cute butt.))
Poisoned Ace Pelt: Eeew, this Selkie Ace of Diamonds pelt seems to have been tainted with something. It smells like ink and oil and looks matted and mangy, off-colored and everything... Hey, is it tingling a little?
