Elodie ran for quite a while before she realized the screaming was quieter, and she was alone.
ALONE.
Shit. Her fur stood on end and her skin prickled and the cat stopped in her tracks to stare at the totally and completely empty hallway. She spun around and stared the way she came, but there was no sign of the little green bat, nor any of the other people she'd encountered thus far.
She tentatively tried following the sounds of rabid pain she assumed were coming from Zane, but no matter which way she went the volume didn't seem to change in any perceptible fashion. Her instincts told her she needed to find a weapon and fast as her magic, at this point, would be the only thing that would save her from sudden doom or whatever might come after her, but she rather doubted the Hearts weapon storage would be the next room over.

Zane continued to scream in pain as he struggled to comprehend what was going on. He was going to die, and he didn't particularly want to die by having something tear out of his stomach.
But there was nothing he could do besides scream in pain. He clawed at himself in frustration as he body continued to fight the pain.
--
Ez wanted to fly. However, he knew that the windows were locked as well as the damn door, so getting inside would be a problem for anyone who wanted to help him.
And the closer the got the more he was sure that the sound was his brother. The bat winged sparrow had only screamed in pain on few occasions, and this was on a whole new level.
Filled with terror the sparrow picked up his pace.
He stumbled when he reached the door, shoving the key in the lock frantically.
It took him a solid minute to open the damn thing. The screams getting louder.

The screaming was only getting worse, Ceren realized with a sinking feeling. She began to walk more quickly, eyebrows furrowing as she quickly navigated the halls of her Court. There was no one else to be seen, and a shiver went down her spine.
Where was everyone?
She was close enough that the screams were no longer just noises traveling up and down the halls. They had tonal quality, now. The person who was screaming sounded as if they were being rather brutally murdered. The person who was screaming was male. The person who was screaming was...
"Zane,[/b]" Ceren whispered, the realization coming to her in a second. There was no question in her mind as to why her brother was there, or how she even knew it was him - she just knew. The Sparrow broke into a galloping run, making her way straight for Ez's door. When she saw them standing outside, working on getting in, she shouted - there were no words, she just wanted them to know she was there.
Khushrenada's own roundness barely registered. When she reached them, she was panting to catch her breath. "Wh - what is going on?![/b]"

Mirriam frantically followed the sounds of the screams, which just seemed to be getting worse with every passing second. Her ears were pressed back against her head, but she could still hear them louder and clearer than she wanted to even still. What was going on? Finally, she saw figures outside of the door the screams should be coming from, and she pushed herself to fly the last few feet and drop down outside of it, looking up at the two Sparrows. "Hi Miss Ceren," she said, sounding less cheerful than her usual greeting by far, but she could tell this was a serious situation.
She was panting, and she also waved at Khushrenada and the other Sparrow who she recognized by virtue of knowing all the Palace nobility as Ez. So if Zane's brother and sister were here...uh oh. Her attention turned back to the door and she frowned, for once not having a lot to say. She blinked, abruptly, and realized that...the Feline she'd thought had been following right behind her...wasn't. "Suits," she muttered under her breath, frowning back the way she'd come. But this was more important right now...the poor man screaming in pain was far more of a concern than a slightly lost Feline who had seemed perfectly healthy.

((Zane's body began to distort horribly, the front pouching out far enough for it to be obscene and pulling the skin on his back tight enough to make his spinal cord clearly visible against his straining tissue. A sudden and horrible tearing sound and something huge fell to the floor with a sickening splodge of wet, hot meat and organs. Zane will live a few minutes more before succumbing to blood loss. The creature that fell room him appears to be a 7-10 year old girl? She has the bare basics of knowledge of the world but many things elude her and she seems awfully afraid of her surroundings and terrified for her Mother.ID: SD458 Name: ---- Suit: Diamonds Rank: Jack Gender: Female Animal: Hoofed Mammal (Giraffe) Region: Benyan Riverlands / Forest of Kahmden Dealer: Kari Muffin Parents: Zane x NPC Notes: What a rare Breed! A Giraffe hasn't been seen in years of recorded history! Her Breed cannot be commissioned and will only roll up by chance in future breedings. Her barbels are extra-sensitive and she can feel when people are within five feet of her through currents in the air...not just the water. Basic Magical Ability: She can act charismatic and persuasive at times, whether or not she actually has the natural charm and grace to pull it off. Moderate Magical Ability: When activated, she can decipher up to two languages of the player's choosing. These languages are in addition to the common tongue and the Diamond house language. Strong Magical Ability: When activated, she can cast a lie-detector spell on a card of the Suit of Diamonds and of a rank lesser or equal to her own, once per day. Cards of equal rank would be aware of the spell, but cards of lesser rank would not. Powerful Magical Ability: When activated, she can fly for up to ninety minutes. Winged Diamonds can use this ability for effortless, perfectly controlled flight. Jack's Ability: Once per week, she can kick up a small wind around them and create a whirling vortex akin to a very small and weak tornado. The funnel will do no actual damage to its surroundings, but inside of its spinning winds floats what appears to be a variety of meat products. The whole thing smells strongly of bacon and barbequed pork ribs. Any Card that is carnivorous or strongly omnivorous will feel compelled to follow the vortex on its path, even if they don't like the taste of pork. True carnivores may be compelled to jump at the thing in an attempt to get at the meaty goodies contained within, but they will never succeed. The whirlwind will disappear on its own if not dispelled by the caster after a maximum of two minutes, leaving not a trace of dust or pig. Meanwhile, Elodie hears footsteps coming near her...whoever could that be?~Nathalia

Elodie swung around when the screaming abruptly dropped off and came to a halt as if something terrible had happened. Stupid cat, she mocked herself, something terrible probably did happen! Elodie backed up against a wall to better view her surroundings and did her best to think up solutions.
She could try to go back the way she'd come and hope she remembered where she'd turned - which she wouldn't be able to do - and risk getting even more lost, or she could stay where she was and...
Footsteps. Someone was approaching. Her fur, which was just starting to relax as she tried to come up with conclusions, stood on end again. She edged over to a side table near her and grabbed the small flower vase, dumped the flowers and gripped the vase hard. It wasn't enough of a weapon for ability - sadly - but at least it would break over someone's head well enough.

Zane was very terrified at the actions of his body. His screams turning into shrieks as his spine was trying to pop out of his body and his insides were trying to come out. There was nothing he could do to stop it.
There was a terribly sound almost like something was ripping.
That was about the time when Ez opened the door.
THe first thing he saw was the form exploding out of his brother and flopping on the floor with a horrible sound along with what seemed to be a few of Zane's internal organs.
A incoherent scream escaped him as he rushed to his brother's side. "Zane! ZANE!"
The screaming had stopped, though Zane was still very much alive. Alive and horrified at what he saw on the floor. He hadn't been pregnant. He hadn't remembered having sex with anyone. And yet there was very much a little card on the floor along with.... oh damn those were not supposed to be on the floor.
"Ahhhh," Zane said as he tried to move and failed miserably. He felt his brother's hand grip his own, though the panic and shock was setting in. He didn't want to die. He didn't want to die like this especially. "What?"
The little girl found herself upside down and thoroughly confused. Her eyes were wide as she stared at the creature that was cowering under the bed. This was not a particularly fantastic way to find herself in the world and there were things going on all around her. Quite a bit of screaming. She craned her neck around to view her dying mother and a panicking person holding his hand.
She started to cry as she stumbled to get up. "Mommy?"

Oh, Suits, this was... This was horrible!! A strangled chirp escaped Ceren as she rushed into the room, moving to her dying brother's side, across from Ez. She lifted his hand, squeezed it, looked around at everyone else in the room with a panicked expression.
"Someone - someone needs to find a damn doctor![/b]" she said, voice a little louder than was absolutely necessary. Her eyes went to the Card that had come bursting out of her brother, a queasy little shudder going through her. How was this possible?! That was far larger than a normal baby... And its form was just so...
She forced her attentions back to her brother. "Hang in there, Zane, you've got to,[/b]" she said softly, a whimper in her voice. "There's help on the way - we're going to get you through this...[/b]" Even as she said it, she knew very clearly that he was not going to make it. How could he? She wasn't a doctor, had no medical training, but she just knew. The size of his wound was... It was devastating. Tears rolled down the bird's cheeks.

Mirriam's ears were pressed back against her head as the screaming got even worse, and then Ezekiel opened the door, and Mirriam's eyes widened as she witnessed the most horrifying event of her life. She could only stare, frozen in shock, as the Sparrow on the bed seemed to literally explore, and a small form landed on the floor...actually, it wasn't very small, but Mirriam didn't quite get a great look. All she could see was the utterly ruined body on the bed. She heard Ceren's scream, knew she should move, knew she should fly as fast as she could for a doctor...
But she couldn't make herself move. And she knew, knew with a sort of certainty that she could never express in words, that Zane was dead. He was still breathing, still weakly gasping for breath, but there was no way anyone could have survived what had just happened. She started shaking, tears stung her eyes, and she finally moved, jerky, helpless little motions that took her not to the side of the dying Sparrow, but to the form on the ground. It had a long neck and...didn't appear to be a baby. It looked...like an older child...
Swallowing against the nausea from what she was seeing, Mirriam looked at the Giraffe. "H-hello? Um." What did she say to a baby that wasn't? She had no idea, and she didn't want to look back up at the dying Sparrow. Her mind supplied the image for her anyway, and she shuddered hard, actually whimpering a little bit. This...this couldn't be happening...

Zane felt his sister's hand, his head jerking to look at her. He could feel tears in the corners of his eyes at her words. Doctor? No. They couldn't fix something like this. He was going to die. He gave her hand a tight squeeze, and then gave Ez's hand a tight squeeze.
Everything was getting fuzzy. He couldn't get enough air. He couldn't feel much of anything. What would happen to his girls? What would happen to the family? He squeezed tighter, "I... I love you guys," he murmured. Blood seemed to be trickling out of his beak as he spoke. There was so much more he wanted to say. "Tell the girls I love them." "Please don't cry." And a long list of other reassurances, but nothing could quite make it out of his beak. He could only look at them with hazy vision.
The minutes that slipped by seemed like an eternity. His hands finally fell limp, his eyes still open but clearly blank.
Ezekiel squeezed his brother's hand. Choking on all of his words. This couldn't be happening. His brother couldn't be dying. It was Zane. Zane could do anything. He had been able to handle the death of their father and mother with a reassuring smile. He had lived through the death of his lover and rarely asked for help with his two children. And now he was dying. "This.... Zane please don't...." he choked back the tears as he felt his brother's grip grow loose.
Oh God, no.
"Zane... please...." It was too late. He knew it was too late but the words still came as he desperately squeezed his brother's limp hand.
The little girl had been watching in pure horror as her mother was slowly slipping away. She shuddered as no one seemed to acknowledge her. That was probably because she killed her Mommy. Her poor Mommy! She was a monster for doing this! On furiously shaking legs she struggled to stand.
That was when the bat acknowledge her. She let out a surprised squeak as her legs gave way on the slippery blood. Back on the floor in a more awkward position the little (well, she wasn't very little) giraffe looked to the bat with a befuddled expression. "H-h-hi? P-p-please don't hurt me?"
