((Zane is making his way to the Palace as fast as possible, though he's starting to feel rather awfully ill the further he goes... Good thing the rain lets up almost as soon as he passes a mile from the Spades Palace. He'll have to walk or get a carriage by the end, but good luck finding one with the Capital so deserted... If he can locate Elodie, maybe he can make some headway, seeing as her personal carriage is nice and large. She's never been to the Diamonds Court anyway, maybe it'll be fun.
Meanwhile, Kushreanada and Mirriam have been having a discussion inside. The King seems to have blacked out a few weeks ago for an unspecified amount of time...odd, that, since he's never had that issue before...and since he didn't remember leaving the window open. Still, he's been advancing in what is now clearly a pregnancy and a good chat with his ward is probably a good idea, is it not? The Court seems odd, though...almost too quiet and the servants seem almost lethargic in their actions, not like themselves at all. Sadie's been feeling off and it seems almost as though a magical aura has been cast on the place. Suits, this is not what anyone needed right now.
Your goal is to get Mirriam through her heart-to-heart and then get Zane and Elodie to Kushreanada before anything terrible happens to either of the men. Look out when entering though...there might be someone lurking, you know...))

Since their major fight, Mirriam had apologized to her guardian for losing her temper. She'd refused to budge on her stance though, as had he, and since then they'd been accidentally-on-purpose avoiding each other. Mirriam had her own room now, which at first had been a luxury she appreciated, but it quickly began to feel lonely. She just wasn't used to it. She was looking into getting a Bandersnatch, but she just hadn't seemed to have time...she'd been taking up a few odd jobs with the gardeners for something to pass the time. She'd also began reading up on and studying magic. Fascinating subject, and very practically useful, but devilishly tricky to work out on her own. Lately, though...the past few days she'd been hearing some odd rumors about her former guardian. He was...pregnant, apparently, which surprised Mirriam as he'd never seemed to have a girlfriend (or boyfriend) in all the time she'd lived with him. (Most luckily, the Bat still didn't know exactly what all had gone on between the hybrid and his Ace). And now...now he wanted to talk with her. Mirriam hesitated in front of Khushrenada's office, then took a deep breath and knocked on the door. " Your Highness?" Best to go with formality, as she'd been taught, and then be pleasantly surprised if they were suddenly on better terms than the icy truce they'd upheld for the past few months.

Khushrenada had never expected to find himself pregnant - neither to find it, nor to be pregnant at all. Yet here he was, very obviously gaining a girth in no way attributed to food, and with no real explanation for the happening. He certainly hadn't slept with anyone lately. Well, not with anyone who could have possibly impregnated him, as Aces and true Cards were in no way compatible enough for reproduction. The only event he could possibly pinpoint would be his unexplained period of unconsciousness several weeks prior. It had been a relatively short period of time for him to appear this egg-heavy, though. The doctors who had examined him not long after the incident seemed equally surprised, and that worried him. To put things crudely, "he was too old for this shit", though not as old as he technically should be. With the atmosphere of the Court growing odder by the day, he had been faced with some hard decisions lately. One in particular - namely, whether or not he should remain in the palace - had grown more and more urgent the further this bizarre pregnancy moved along. He had made up his mind the previous week and begun to make arrangements. Now he needed to find out... whether or not Mirriam would be coming with him. Their recently frosty interactions left the matter in some doubt. He sent a summons for her through a particularly lackluster servant, who slumped politely in what might have been called a bow and then trudged away down the hall. Now he waited, wearing his animal form due to the increasing discomfort and lack of balance in his bipedal form, settled into an oversized chair with a hole in the back for tails. Hearing her tentative inquiry at the door, he settled himself more comfortably - as best he could - into his feathers. "Please come in, Mirriam."

His reply was rather encouraging, and Mirriam pushed open the door and fluttered inside. She'd been doing a lot of growing, having hit her main growth spurt starting a little before she moved out, and so Khsurenada would probably notice a difference. The Bat still held herself with awkward teenage gangliness, but she bowed politely before perching on the chair in front of his desk. She looked him over, her brown eyes soft with obvious concern.
She had been planning to let him speak first, just in case the meeting was not to be an overly friendly one...but Mirriam had never been especially good at keeping her mouth shut. "Are you okay?" she blurted, noticing from years of living with him that he looked tired...possibly more tired then she'd ever seen him. He almost looked -old- and that was...odd. "I...I mean... congratulations." That was what you were supposed to say to someone who was expecting, right? Except maybe not. She brushed at her ears with a wing claw.

Zane was hunched over, panting in a very undignified manner on the sidewalk. He felt like complete and utter crap, and he still had a long way to get to the Diamond Court. Would he have to walk at the damn place at this rate? "Hello?" he called out in the awkward silence that had washed over the capital. There had to be someone here. There was always someone here, it was the city damnit! The leather winged sparrow straightened himself out and started walking down the street. At least it wasn't raining anymore. But... everything was just a mess. The Court of Spades was in distress, the city was barren, was everything upside down? Was something happening at the Court of Diamonds as well? His worry only grew as he continued to walk down the empty streets. He rounded the corner, only to see more empty streets. Everything was killing him. He didn't want to do this right now. With a small growl he took to jogging down the street. The closer he got to the end of it, the more convinced he was that he would have to walk the entire way to the Court of Diamonds. He then rounded the corner, stumbling upon an actual sign of life. It was a carriage and a driver. He waved for them to stop. He really hoped they did. He didn't want to end up chasing after them like this.

He really had been lax in her guardianship lately, hadn't he? A difference of opinion was no excuse to avoid prolonged exposure to the girl. Look at her - she'd grown like a weed. A pretty weed. Perhaps a dandelion. They were long and stalk-like, and prone to flights of fancy as they matured.
The thought amused him into a tired smile and he bobbed his head once in response to her bow. Her blunt, careless question brought about a surprised look before he shook his head and tried to hold back a laugh. The attempt was only successful in part.
"Thank you," he responded with dry humor. "I think that 'okay' would be an acceptable word to describe my present condition."
He resettled slightly in his chair, unable to find any roost or perch that was truly comfortable at present. He had certainly never anticipated finding himself in this state, and so he had not concerned himself with furniture that would accommodate an over-large midsection.
"It is because of this, however, that I called you here. Or rather, this and certain other happenings in the Court have led me to make several decisions which will likely affect you in one way or another."

Elodie peered out from her carriage, her nose wrinkling at the sight of the empty capital. Did everyone have a case of nasty stomach flu and they were all in their homes, happily puking up their contents? Was it possible for such an epidemic to sweep through the population so quickly? She'd been out and about just two days ago to pick up some purchases and there'd been the usual amount of bloody obnoxious, stupid pedestrians around. Now when she wanted the comfort of her shared existence with someone else it seemed as though it was her and her driver in the entire bloody place. Wasn't that just delightfully creepy? "Just..... keep going for a few more streets," She finally instructed her driver, who seemed just as unnerved as she was. "We have to see someone eventually..." She muttered.

Hey...was that a smile on his beak? Mirriam rather thought it was. Small and tired, but a smile none the less. She relaxed a bit, letting out a small breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. It was hard to put into words how much she'd missed him since their fight. He'd essentially raised her after losing her parents at such a young age, and Mirriam hated to have jeopardized her relationship with the closest thing to a father she was likely to ever keep. There were times she wondered if their fight had even been worth it...but now was certainly not the time for such musings.
Apparently, Khushrenada was about to have a child of his own. She gave him an uncertain smile, still messing with her ears as a nervous habit, and moving on to running her claw over her antlers. She...wasn't sure exactly what to say to that. But then he mentioned he had something tell her...Mirriam's expression changed subtly, looking a bit more serious, and she leaned forward a bit. Her wing fall to her side and was still.
"Yes? What is it?" she asked, curiosity and worry vying for their place in her mind. She was expecting him to say almost anything, from wanting her to move back in to sending her away to asking her for help raising the child.

A very small part of Zane wanted to cry at the fact that the carriage was still quite far away. He couldn't tell if they were going to stop or if they were going to run him over. A sigh escaped him.
This had been a long day, and it was only going to get longer, wasn't it?
He trotted forward. Trotted. At this point it was starting to get painful when it came to walking. He was grateful when the driver was the first to actually acknowledge him.
He leaned heavily on the on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. He wasn't this out of shape. He didn't have an excuse to be this tired or this disgruntled. So help him, he was going to kick something in the head if things went wrong.
He gained his composure fairly quickly as the Carriage came to a halt. "Excuse me.... this is an emergency and I need to get to the Court of Diamonds right away. Would you be so kind as to help me out?"

Elodie anxiously peered out of the carriage curtain, wanting to see what was going on, but not wanting to get... contaminated by whatever was plaguing the city. It was starting to freak her out a little. She wasn't a big fan of people by any means, but having the presence of other people around was always comforting, even if she had no desire whatsoever to interact with any of them. Ever.
The driver started slowing suddenly and the cat whipped her head out to stare. A person! A real live person! Sure, a giant person with giant leather wings, but a person none the less!
She frowned down at him, blinking at the odd request. "The Court of Diamonds?" Elodie repeated. She'd never been there - she'd visited the Court of Hearts many, many times out of sheer vain glory, but the other Courts seemed inconsequential in comparison.
What the hell, though, why not? The City was just creeping her out. Maybe there'd be more people in Diamonds. It wasn't as if she had a job she was missing, or people who cared where she went. Ah, the benefits of being rich. "I suppose," She said with a shrug, pushing the half-door open to accomodate him. "What is your name, stranger, and what business do you have in Diamonds that is so urgent?" She asked as the carriage started once again.
