By the time Cauter got around to the small trio, Cecilia would've stopped her fitting and wailing and had instead mellowed to sulking and sniffling. At least, until she saw the pretty new lad enter the room. She shifted and preened, flaunting herself without thought ever as Mephitisia rolled her eyes in disgust. Public displays of affection or, in Cecilia's example, public displays of whoreism disgusted the Corvistowne/Avington mix.
She was the first to reply to Cauter and stated quite bluntly. "Ophelia would like to buy this bracelet."
Ophelia twitched slightly as the youth spoke for her, shaking her head and flashing a friendly smile up to Cauter. "Ah yes, like she said... I'd like to purchase this bracelet." Mephit cocked her head up and peered at Ophelia curiously, arching a brow. She was hoping Ophelia would haggle with the biped a bit, it was bound to be interesting. "How about 20 for it?"

"Twenty? My dear lady, you wound me. I would settle, however, for 33."
He nodded to her, unable to let go of the idea that she look familiar somehow and moved over to the Highland cat with the golden wings.
"Well, hello my good sir. May I be of any assistance to you?"
He searched the feline's face as he spoke...why was everyone so familiar looking today?

Lior smiled as he was addresses, the expression small and sincere. For all of his oddness, he actually was interesting in this pretty ring. His father had beautiful jewelry and he didn't want to wear anything nearly so extravagant, but something small, maybe... and the fact that it was enchanted only added to the mystery and intrigue.
He had no concept of haggling himself, not really. People told his father what things cost and he paid them, from what Lior could see. He didn't witness any of the behind-the-scenes negotiations and dealings that went along with those prices and bargains, which were numerous. The palace of Hearts was opulent and spent a great deal of money, all that most people ever got to see.
"Yes, thank you. I would be interested in learning more about this ring. What do you know of its past owner? Where did it come from? Are these genuine rubies? And what are you charging for it?"

Cauter smiled, removing the ring from its case and holding it out for the kitten to examine.
"You won't find rubies any more genuine than these anywhere else, young master. As to the former owner..well, she expressed interest in remaining anonymous...but she was quite happy with it, I assure you. She simply moved onto better and brighter things."
He tapped one of the gems gently, listening to the soft ting it caused.
"You'll enjoy it for sure. The enchantment allows for the seeing of secrets...or so I'm told. For only 50p too, young master...a real deal..."

Looking at the pretty ring up close only left him more charmed with the piece. It really was lovely, and looked like it might even fit on one of his feline toes. He hadn't initially expected to buy anything from the shoppe, only to look, and had to take a quick peek at his money pouch. All of it his, saved and earned from errands and the like... it was his precious little stash. They were given everything they needed in the palace, but as for what they wanted. Well. Linda could get herself beautiful trinkets if she really wanted them. His father was slightly less indulgent towards him.
"I... it looks like I only have forty-five with me at the moment," he said, eyebrows knit together in disappointment. "Perhaps I should come back later, when I've managed to save up more money? Trips to the city are rare... but I might be able to manage one. I really am interested..."

Cauter smiled at the little feline, able to realize honesty when he saw it. It wasn't worth letting the feline get away without taking the ring with him.
"Well...tell you what, m'lad. I'll let you have it for forty-five. Just don't tell anyone."
He winked, handing the ring gently to the young boy...he liked the look of him...couldn't quite place him though.
"Hope you find it useful, and that it finds you to be a good owner. Have a good day, lad."
So saying, he pocketed the money, winked, and walked back over to the three deer in the corner.

Ophelia eyed the equine as he spoke, nodding to herself. 20 was steep, but 33 wasn't much of a deal either. Drumming the fingers of her free hand upon the table, she turned the bracelet over once, twice more; studying it while he was helping the winged feline. There was a possibility that the rubies weren't real...and then again he was also currently telling the Highlander than the ones on his bracelet were. She nodded to herself, waiting for Cauter for return as her two little ones watched on.
Mephitisia, of course, was the one who showed true interest in her mother's haggling. She didn't make a fuss about it or anything of the sort, but she studied the older woman with that keen voracity for knowledge.
"Make it 30 and we've got a deal."
As she spoke, she reached to her pouch and held her hand poised over her money, waiting for his response.6

Lior's smile perked back up as the equine accepted his offer and he removed the coins from his pouch carefully, counting them out with a paw and letting the man scoop them up before he gently picked up the ring with one extended paw. It winked and shone in the light, so very pretty a piece, and he gingerly maneuvered it onto one feline finger.
Immediately the scene changed, light slanting in from another direction. He twitched in surprise and lifted his head, eyes taking in an entirely different scene than before. Where had that woman come from? And all of those children around her, a miniature herd of little feline babies, all mewling their distress. And in front of her stood Cauter... but not as he remembered the horse from just a moment ago. His eyes glittered wierdly, pink hide almost glistening with sweat or oil or something else that made it shine. His jewelry was all thrown out of proportion and he was... giving the woman a pewter... for one of her children...
Gaping in horrified confusion, the King ripped the ring from his finger and the scene was immediately restored to normal. What... the... hell? Without another word, he slipped the ring into his money-pouch and left the store, profoundly disturbed. This would bear experimentation.

Cauter grinned widely at the odd doe, not even noticing the tiny feline staggering behind him. He liked this woman...it was almost as though he knew her...or had at least heard of her. Strange, that.
"Thirty-one and not a bit less. My dear."
He reched out to shake her hand, smiling.
"Might I ask your name, my lady..you seem awfully familiar and I can't quite place you."
He was glad to be rid of the bracelet as it had been on his shelf for so long, but this woman had best tell himher name...otherwise he would have to hand over a copper to a lowlife to find out...

Ophelia wanted to laugh a little, they looked to be nearly rivaled in their stubborn ways and Mephitisia's snort made it quite clear that she was thinking the same. Cecilia merely continued to mope, which was probably for the best. With a slight smirk, Ophelia extended her hand the remaining distance to clasp Cauter's own and, in turn, drop the coins in his grip.
"I' suppose I must fold then, 31 it is...and my name is Ophelia. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Cauter."
Once more she heard Mephitisia's lowly snorted amusement but Ophelia ignored the low and knowing sound. Mephit always seemed to be filled with dark knowledge she did not need to know and most of the time Ophelia found it wise not to dwell upon what the dark doe mused upon.
Hmph. This bracelet really would be suit suiting for her, wouldn't it?
