Good, despite apparently having suffered a beating its faculties were intact. "Well met, Somhan. ...This is a long way from the Lakes, we passed Yarrow on the way in and Corvistowne is beyond us." Curse the rain, it made her work so much harder with streams of water running down her face. Its abdomen seemed strangely swollen...
The news momentarily distracted her from her examination. Not what she wanted to hear, but certainly what she'd expected. Nadja's ears droop down a little, but she pushes on despite the disappointing news. Just because he hadn't seen her didn't mean she hadn't come through. "My Jack and I have been in search of our missing Doe. We came from Avington." Her ear twitched slightly and her expression momentarily turned bland at the Selkie's quip.
With a slight sigh, she returned to studying the Leveret... If she was correct it would seem as if it were pregnant but that was just impossible. Leverets couldn't breed. "Do you need any special treatment?" There were so many questions and simply not enough answers. Thankfully, Heike arrived shortly after she'd begun her questioning and she brightened visibly at his return. She shook her head slightly, turning her attention back to Somhan. "Will you need help walking?"

Somhan blinked and felt quite ill. They clearly remembered getting here. Maybe he had come here the same way, he had just been knocked out by something--obviously he had, he felt like tenderized meat. The Selkie girl's remark about magic was just grumpy sarcasm. He had little idea of Card magic and couldn't conceive of anything transporting a person such a terrible distance. He had no idea why anyone would want to abduct him or beat him, though; he was just a cook. And now he wasn't even a particularly useful one.
"I think I'm okay," he said. "I think I can do it."
He was fairly confident he could make it inside on his own steam; he forced himself to move through the strange pain. As terrifying as the giant building looked, anything would be better than the rain. He shivered. It had to be.

((Fleur's scent seems to get stronger down by an old...shed? Is it? The smell is mixed with fear and a tinge of...something else...and Cards. Cards?! What was Heike's daughter doing with Cards?
There also seems to be something moving out in the darkness...maybe you should get in that shed and try to find Fleur...))

Zulimar's patience was running dangerously thin. They were on a stupid goose chase, she was wet and cold, and she just wanted to leave. A sudden burst of inspiration made her question - why couldn't she? On a scale of importance she was a "0" compared to Fleur's "10" - Jack had to take care of his bratty spawn and all. If she slipped off now, they'd notice, but wouldn't bother to care - considering how weird it was out here they'd probably just assume she was dead. Which was to her advantage, right now. Stupid warrens.
She raised her nose when a sudden scent wafted over her. Was that the... .... No, not rotten meat, Card. Where the hell were they, anyways? She sniffed again and pinpointed it towards an old shed, and another burst of inspiration hit her. "I smell something this way.... I'll check around the back of the shed, if you guys want to go inside," She said cheerfully, then realized an abrupt mood switch might make them suspicious, so muttered a few derogatory insults about Avingtons as she hopped off.

They had a choice of going down a rather dark and dangerous looking path or going to the tool shed, which smelled heavily of Fleur and something else. Cards. Cards! When the fact finally hit the Jack he looked terribly distressed without very much warning.
Fleur should not be with Cards. And there was something else hanging in the air that he couldn't quite pinpoint. Something that ruffled his wet fur. "The shed might be safer," he said as he fidgeted with one of his cuffs impatiently.
She shot Zulimar a dark looking. He had half a mind the punt the leveret in the head. She could go first, maybe something in the shed would happily crush her. The Jack motioned to Nadja and the Morganberry, stepping in front of them to go to the shed.
That was when he noticed the shadows moving out of the corner of his sight. His head snapped around. He didn't particularly feel inclined to be stuck in a too shed but it would be better than running into a card.
He opened the door for everyone to enter. His nose wrinkled as he kept an eye on the shadow.

Something by the shed? Nadja's ear twitched and she lightly tested the air... Fleur? Maybe. But something more too... She frowned a little but Heike was alright with it and she wasn't about to defy him. Then again, if something did happen to her, it wouldn't be the greatest loss in the world. She'd been nothing but foul attitudes and back talk since they picked her up.
Whatever, she had Somhan to focus on. "Alright. Don't be afraid to lean on me if you need to, I'll be right here with you." She gave the injured leveret a sweet smile and kept her pace at his side as they made their way toward the shed.
Just as she was about to slip in, she finally caught sight of the something moving in the distance. Her fur ruffled up for a moment before quickly smoothing out once more. Surely it was just Cards scurrying out of the rain, this place couldn't really be deserted after all... Best to get inside where they, hopefully, would not be caught.
She nudged Somhan ahead of her and turned to Heike. Had he seen the movements outside? She glanced at the two leverets inside and dropped into the Avington language for a moment. "I didn't want to startle the leverets for what might've just been a trick of the eye, but I think I saw something on the way in." She frowned for a moment, glancing back toward the rain. Now that she was in here, the smell of fear was rising above the mass of other scents and it made her skin crawl a bit. "...Whatever it is, it's better to be prepared."

Somhan scooted inside the shed without protest, happy to be out of the rain, though the cold was not much diminished. Neither was the pain. He looked around the place, seeing things that sort of looked familiar in form, though he had never been one to maintain a garden, just cook the food. He sniffed at them. The place reeked.
He half-heartedly tried to shake a little bit of water out of his fur. It was to little avail; his body rebelled against movement. He tried not to pay attention to whatever the Jack had whipped around to see, ignored the conversation happening in a language he couldn't understand.
None of it could be good news, and he didn't think he could process something else going wrong with the day. He was, probably, a coward. He curled up on the floor and tried to enjoy being dry.

((Somhan's body begins to swell nastily as he lies prone. Something...awful seems to be happening to him. Meanwhile...Heike's nose should be giving him some hint as to where that scent of Fleur's is coming from...they may have to roll Somhan though...can't have any Cards finding him and then coming to find them, now can we?))

"It wasn't a trick of the eye," Heike said in Avington as he stared out into the rain. There was something moving out there and he didn't particularly like it. It could have easily been a Card, and that would have been a complete and utter disaster. They had more magic and he wasn't feeling particularly skillful enough today to fight or kill much of anything. He slipped inside, grabbing the nearest thing to jam the door. It would at least give him time to think straight and he rung out his sopping jacket. "We're not going to stay here long," he said to his sister and gave her a reassuring smile.
Fleur's scent was still in here, however. His nose twitched as he walked over to were the scent seemed fade.
There was very clearly an uncovered door in the ground. What did Cards call the underground storage places? It made sense that Fleur would go underground. He opened it, the smell of Fleur was the first scent that hit him. The second was something that smelled like death. However faint it was, it was hard to miss.
The choices were slim.
"Let's go," he announced as he took the first few steps down the small stairs. He was a little to focused on potentially finding Fleur in some horrible condition to notice much of anything else.

Nadja frowned. She'd honestly hoped her eyes were playing a trick on her and that potential danger wasn't looming just outside. Cards were ignorant and that was their greatest strength against them. Cornered and caring for an injured leveret, they'd have no real hope in a fight.
His reassurance did wonders for her nerves and she returned the smile with a small but warm one of her own. Right. They wouldn't be here long, just long enough to get Fleur and go.
As Heike turned to continue, Nadja nodded to herself and turned toward the other leverets to ban them together... except Somhan had suddenly begun to swell. "Stars above!" She gasped out, unable to help herself. That just wasn't normal, not in the least. "Heike... I don't..." She shook her head, feeling somewhat nauseated as the leveret began to swell even more. "This isn't right. I don't think he'll be able to walk like this."
Nadja didn't relish waiting around in that shed while the poor Leveret expanded, they could be found at any moment, but only Heike would be able to carry him if they wanted to hurry out of there. Otherwise... Did she even want to think of it? They might be able to roll him...
