The shock of the sight didn't last long. A terrified cry escaped the little leveret as the pain in her body blossomed anew, her shoulders suddenly screaming with protest as the flesh broke and something tore its way free. Nadja had no clue what was going on. From the sensations alone she could only imagine the worst of things. Fleur's broken body strewn on the floor, Somhan bursting before her eyes!
What if it was happening to her? What if she was about to explode, a victim of this terrifying epidemic that was claiming her kin. The rabbit fitfully buried her head into her brother's fur, muffling her cries and sobs as best she could.
She couldn't die like this, not now. She couldn't leave Heike like this! The leveret clung to Heike as tightly as she could, utterly oblivious of the changes around them -- or to herself -- as she struggled to hold herself together and not draw undue attention to them.

Heike froze at the sound of a voice from up the stairs. The stairs. What was he going to do? Oh White Rabbit why had he ended up in this hellish nightmare where there were cards everywhere. His heart skipped a beat as he stumbled towards the boxes.
They had to hide. There were plenty of boxes, and it was still terribly dark. Maybe the card wouldn't notice him? Cards were stupid like that. He just hoped that the particular card was like the majority. He ran behind one of the walls of boxes, getting as far away from the stairs as possible.
Horatio frowned as he strained to hear what was going on. Carefully he made his way down the flight of stairs with a good deal of hopping and thudding. He could clearly hear someone down there, and they would certainly here his clunking.
His ball finally hit the floor, and he made the last hop off the stair, waddling into the dark basement. Where the heck was he? This place was bigger than most of the places he'd been to. It was like something out of a fairytale involving princesses and castles...
His brown furrowed as he waddled around in the dim light. He noticed the fallen door. Perhaps the people down here were actually screaming? That was a horrible thought. Horatio waddled over to the fallen door, peering through the open door. The smell assaulting him almost instantly. "Oh Suits, what is going on?"

They had stopped moving. Nadja was only vaguely aware of that fact through the pain. They'd stopped moving and she was no longer being jostled about as Heike ran. A strange thumping came from somewhere, different from the panicked throbbing of Heike's heart. Her ears twitched, the first signs of true awareness finally returning to her.
With the tiniest of sniffles, she pulled her head out of the soft of his arm and blinked up at him with big, watery eyes. She wasn't dead? Her body was still so sore, but she wasn't dead. A heavy sigh was her only acknowledgment of victory and she collapsed her head upon his arm in exhaustion. That is, until something flicked her nose. It was light and fluffy and sent a chill all the way up her ...tail? The little rabbit jerked suddenly in her brother's arms, recoiling to stare at the thing that had poked it.
"....H-Heike..." She whispered in Avington, making certain to keep her voice so low that only Heike could hear her. "What happened to me?" There was a weight on her shoulders and it fluttered with her nerves as the fluffy tail tip bobbed out of sight as she uncoiled from Heike. Oh stars above, this couldn't be real.

Heike was panting as he finally stopped moving to flop on the ground. His ears were alert as he listened to whatever was coming down the stairs. There was a strange and constant dragging sound that made him worry. What if the Card was huge? There weren't any trees around and he highly doubted his magic worked properly on Cards.
His sister was coherent now though, he jumped slightly when she suddenly jerked out of his arms. He gave her a worried expression, his eyes widening when he looked her over. What... what had happened to her? "I-I don't know," he whispered as low as possible. He reached out slowly to tap one her small wings.
"Maybe it's card magic or some sort?" She looked less like a rabbit with that tail of her and she was so... so fluffy. He wasn't sure what to think about all of this. She looked far more fancy than she had. What if Jacks asked about her? The thought made his ear involuntarily twitch. They had to get out of here first though.
"We need to wait for the Cards to pass and then we'll sneak out."

Once on her own four paws, Nadja twisted and turned to take in all of her strange new changes. Her tail had lengthened and wings had split from her back. The pain was all quite reasonable from this vantage point and the fact that she was now quite pretty didn't seem to make anything better. She looked like a Card with that long tail and, even worse, she was pretty enough to be a Doe.
This was terrible. She was plain, simple, Nadja... She didn't want anything to do with becoming a Doe! Still... Panicking wouldn't be good, not now. Slowly she tried to manage a little sliver of a smile. "It's... not so bad?" She whispered, trying to reassure herself. "It's kind of pretty... Right?" It was okay to be pretty. No one would take her away from Heike. It'd be alright. Everything would be fine.
Or maybe it wouldn't.
When Heike mentioned Cards, Nadja tucked her tail closer to herself and fidgeted with the elongated tuft nervously. "Do you think Zulimar got out alright? That thing that killed Somhan is still down there... and I never saw where she went after we entered the basement..." Zulimar may have been an unhelpful little thing, but she was a tiny piece of familiarity in this Card-filled madness. Nadja hoped she was alright. "W-Where are we anyway?"
There were boxes everywhere -- walls of them -- and it was terribly cold. Nothing seemed right in light of what she'd just seen and the fact that Cards lurked somewhere nearby wasn't helping anything.

((The lights up by the ceiling begin to flicker and hiss slightly, making a thin humming whine as their glow dims.
As Horatio heads down the stairs, and odd clicking noise rings out from above him. It almost sounds like...pacing. The door creaks open a touch. And then shuts.
Before he can see what was trying to follow him, the main lights go out completely, leaving nothing but a small amount of back up lights at the very back of the basement.
Everything else slides int complete darkness. Something is definitely on the stairs above Horatio.
A few seconds of silence pass before a small, high-pitched voice; thin, reedy, and barely there, whispers. "Are you still thee?"
The clicking stops. There is no way to tell what or who it may be. ))

The Jack nodded at her pretty remark, his ears were half trying to listen to what was going on behind them. He shifted a bit, trying to peer around the boxes, though he couldn't see anything properly. Damn. He needed to calm down and focus. He gave his sister a rather pitiful look. As he struggled to properly calm down. She looked so pretty and he felt like a horrible mess.
"I don't really care about her, she was always a bit of a bitch." He muttered half coherently, frowning heavily at her next question. "Basement of the Card palace of wherever. We need to get past the card."
The lights flickered. The rabbit froze, his eyes wide in terror.
The penguin wasn't expecting the sounds from behind him. He jumped, shivering a bit. What was going on here? Why wouldn't anyone answer him? He had heard voices but there wasn't anyone down here. He waddled back to the bottom stair.
He heard a distant sound he couldn't quite place before he heard a door creaking. When he went to see if someone was there everything dimed. He let out a gasping squawk of terror. What was going on? Was someone playing with the lights? He looked up everything went dark.
Oh no. Oh no. He held his breath, his heart beating a mile a minute in his chest. The silence was broken by a questioning voice.
He wasn't sure what to do. Should he answer it? He... he probably should. He decided to put on his diamond charm, just in case.
"Hello, I'm still here.... I apologize for being a little confused. Do you happen to know where I am?"
Basic Ability: He can act charismatic and persuasive at times, whether or not he actually has the natural charm and grace to pull it off.

Panic had subsided considerably. Nadja was still shivering heavily, but she could think a little better. She forced herself to be quiet, to keep her ears alert. They needed to get past the Card, which meant they needed to know where it was...
And then the lights went out.
Nadja tried not to whimper as she pressed herself firmly against her brother. This wasn't going to end well, how could it possibly end well while being trapped in a Card dwelling??? Her mind raced through a mental laundry list of dooms that could fall upon them, all while trying desperately to track the noises of the Card (or cards) in the basement. Somewhere, in the now complete hush, a voice rises again. Something about it puts her a little at ease and, though she can't quite make out the words, it sounds rather nice, even a little confused.
A very small part of her wanted to answer the nice voice, but she held herself very still and silent. No matter what happened, she would not draw attention to herself and Heike.

((Another sound, this time almost a scraping and a small thunk rings out before everything goes silent again. "This isn't..."
Came a hiss, only just audible as words to Horatio. There is something wrong with the voice...something off, flat and horrible...))

That was a horrible sound, now wasn't it?
The penguin was hoping for an honest answer, something to clarify the situation he was in. He did not expect the faint hiss of two words. The sound of the voice was clearly off, and it sent a chill down his spine. He was in the dark and couldn't see, and there was something in the room with him. Something that was thudding around. His imagination couldn't even properly picture what would make that sound. Who... he really hoped it was just a confused who. And what did the mean? "This isn't?"
He swallowed hard trying to find his bravery.
He decided to carefully take a step up. He muddled about it, feeling with his foot for a few moments before actually taking the step, his binding dragged across the floor behind him. Plenty of bad things could happen to him, but he couldn't just stand here like an idiot in the dark. "This is not funny, whoever you are."
He did his best to sound firm, but he was unmistakably shaky.
Heike could only hear the horrible thudding and the sound of Horatio speaking. He slowly reached out to draw his sister closer, praying that she would shriek or anything. The Card was after them, and however cordial it sounded it must have been some sort of horrible monster. He tried, quite desperately, to stay completely silent (9), however an loud involuntary whimper escaped him.
He immediately regretted the sound, slapping his hand over his mouth, which of course made another slight sound. The rabbit could feel his heart pounding in his chest. Shit, no, he had not just given away where they were?
"Nadja," he whispered as faintly as possible in Avington, "Stay close."
