Torquehelm wasn't the farthest that he'd had to travel to deliver mail, but it certainly wasn't just around the block. Still, his insomnia made it quite easy to stay up nearly the entire trip, traveling night and day with only a few hours sleep. It was grueling work, but Aleah was finding that he liked it.. at least in part. Perhaps.. it would make him stronger. It made him feel much more alive when he felt the strain of his wiry, thin muscles beneath his scraggly coat. He'd been trying to groom it lately, finding that he cared more about how he looked. Hit attempts did little good, of course. Would he look so undignified when he progressed to the status of Jack? He very much hoped so. The Torquehelm though.. was an unpleasant place. It was so terribly dark, quite a contrast from the bright and glorious highlands. He wouldn't let that catch him off guard though, he'd heard tales of the gold-laden Torque jack he was to deliver mail to, and knew for a fact that he was no ordinary downtrodden individual. Then again, he wondered if a bound Torque ever -could- make it to Jackhood. He wasn't privy to such information, sadly. Coming up to the door, he folded his knuckles carefully so as not to damage the door, or stab himself as he rapped at he door that led into the warren. Hopefully a leveret would open the door, and not the Jack himself.

Dafina was wandering around the Warren, straightening things as she went. There wasn't much to do sadly and the leveret found herself becoming increasingly bored as more days whizzed by. Her sister never wanted to spend as much time with her now that they were closer to being of age. The disparity between their ranks seemed to be growing by the day. When her lop ears heard a knock at the door she started, blinking rapidly towards the noise. She moved towards the front door quietly, her ears swinging low in front of her legs. Though through practiced grace she never tripped on them. Dafina placed a soft paw on the door before creaking it open and peeking out at the rabbit that stood there. Her posture straightened, bangs slipping back out of her eyes. "This is the Jack Anubis' Warren," she paused for a moment, "Can I help you?"

Aleah paused at what opened the door. It was... a creature that made him question his ideas about the Torques, for sure. Such pretty ears.. bound together by what looked like twine. He would have expected something more severe.. like bolts through her skull or a leg pulled behind her head or some other such nonsense.
He then realized he had yet to say anything, shaking out of his thoughts as he pulled the package off his shoulder. "I have mail from the Czar for Jack Anubis." That really should have been it, but Aleah paused once again as he considered things. "Would... it be possible if I could have a glass of water? It's a long trip back." Yes, water.. or at least -something-. Food would have been great as well, but he wouldn't impose so much as to request that. He'd have to find something on his way. The prospect of having to find a decent stream to drink out of though.. that was an unsavory one. Most of the streams were being polluted by those.. card settlements.

Dafina blinked at the leveret standing in front of her. She had never seen another rabbit that was so pale. She deduced from the markings and colouring, that it must be from the Highlands. The mention of the Czar clinched it. Father had taught her from a young age about the other Jacks he had met, and some he hadn't. All were potential future suitors if she managed to grow into Doehood.
She reached a paw forward to take the package before the courier spoke again. Yes, that was reasonable. A smile lit across her face and she motioned the lev inside. It would be nice to talk to another leveret, especially one from a Warren she'd heard about.
She tipped back onto her back legs and set the package upon a small table before turning back to the lev. "Just follow me. I'll let Father know there is a package here and feetch you a drink."
Dafina showed the visitor to the sitting room before taking off quickly.

Her bright smile even made his tired face turn up a bit, taking his place to follow behind her. He had no qualms with checking out the warren as he went, giving quick glances and making note about the decor. The man.. he certainly liked gold.
The sitting room? Absolutely delightful. His tail gave a quick wag once he was in the room, taking it all in. Nice seats, comfortable looking pillows... he wouldn't dare take a seat as a dirty, clawed leveret, but perhaps one day he'd be able to sit proper in a seat like that; swathed in clothing and hands carefully folded over his knees. What outfit would he have to wear? Would he be able to afford one of his own?
He looked around as he waited. Aleah had really wished to catch a glimpse of the leverets, or even the Does... though the Does were a bit more intimidating. These would all be important facts later on. That little leveret though, younger than he was and pretty even as an androgenous leveret. And capable of smiling. He hadn't known Torques smiled.

The Leveret hurried off as quick as was proper. It wouldn't do to run into Father while running flat-out down the Warren halls. Dafina ended up running across Maezia first and told the other leveret to pass along the message to Anubis, leaving herself free to grab a glass of water for the new-comer. Finally, a relief to her boredom.
It was several minutes later when the leveret made her way carefully back to the sitting room with the water held carefully in one paw. It had taken much practice, learning to cup her paw around the handles of glasses, and being able to walk at the same time. Dafina still needed to practice really, so she took the opportunity. When she reached the room she bumped the door open with a shoulder before moving towards the other leveret and setting the mug-like glass in front of him.
She seated herself across from him and watched him curiously, her long ears sweeping at her feet. It was rude to speak out of turn, but the silence was nearly strangling her. Besides. . this rabbit was just enough leveret right?
"May I inquire what your name is? . . . I'm Dafina."

Hm. Cups. He didn't much like them, but he'd learned to manage somewhat. very carefully, he put his pawpads on the sides and tilted the glass toward him, somewhat slurping (to his embarrassment) as he tried not to spill any of the liquid on the floor. Well.. at least he was getting his liquid. Aleah didn't think he'd be able to face the shame of having to drink out of a bowl in front of someone as if he were some.. animal.
And there she was, staring at him curiously in your bright youth. She didn't yet seem.. jaded like so many tired leverets could become. Yes... very cute. Very sweet, with those long, loppy ears that looked as if they'd touch the floor when she walked.
His tired eyes angled up at her as she spoke, the bloodshot and tired. "Dafina... that's a pretty name." He found himself saying. Was it out of terms? Was it wrong to do? He wasn't really sure. "My name is Aleah."

She couldn't help but want to watch the leveret drinking from the cup, though she knew she ought not to. Carefully she averted her gaze but Dafina couldn't help but be aware of the noise in the room. For a split second her face tensed, trying not to smile at the noise before schooling her face again. She hated those blasted cups really, but had figured a bowl would be a bit of an insult. Her eyes moved back to him and she blinked quickly when she realized he was looking back and looked around the room again.
Inwardly she cursed herself for being caught and startled when he spoke again. A hot flush burst across her cheeks and she rubbed a lop ear with her front paws in nervous habit before speaking.
"Aleah." She nodded simply, acknowledging his name. She couldn't quite seem to say anything else at the moment.

Gosh. It was.. obviously quiet. There was a sort of quiet noise as she merely looked at him, occasionally averting her gaze politely. How... awkward. Was she a bit... dumb? She seemed so polite at the door, and now she looked completely at a loss. Very much leveret-like.. but hopefully a lev that is attractive enough to become a Doe would be slowly groomed as such? Or at least encouraged... But perhaps she was actually a he? That was a very embarrassing thought.
He quickly averted his gaze, ears flushing deeply. Had he just been -flirting- with a male? That was beyond disgusting. One could not always tell by the name, for it was quite common for leverets to be named with female names even if they are male.
The awkward silence went on, and that damn glass was nowhere near empty. He hastily sipped at it again. Finally, he couldn't keep the silence going any more. It was becoming an uncomfortable buzz in his ears. "Is everything alright?"

Her lips twitched as the silence grew. How very, very awkward. Dafina's ears strained for any sound, hoping for something to break the stillness in the room. Though she supposed, if Father walked in, that would be quite horrible indeed. To invite in a rabbit from another Warren, without mentioning it to him, or getting his approval. She took in a quick breath at the thought before the question shocked her from her reverie.
"Ah yes. . I'm sorry. You just . . ." She shrugged with a sheepish grin. "I thank you for the compliment Aleah." She finally nodded and accepted it properly. An honest compliment came out so differently than her being told by Anubis what her 'assets' were.
"Sorry if I made the conversation uncomfortable." She laughed finally, her youth peeking out from her uncertainty. She supposed. . the compliment shouldn't be taken so close to heart? Her eyes roved over the other leveret. Taking in the slight mane, the claws, the body shape. Aleah. . she repeated in her mind. She had assumed the leveret to be a male, but how many male leverets had manes? Ah the joys of rabbit society.
"Actually. . . would it be rude of me to inquire after your Warren? Mother always told me about lands outside of Torquehelm, and I find it fascinating."
She chewed for a second at her lip before calming her mouth and smiling lightly at him.
