Claudius had always felt like a side character, and in many ways he was. His brothers always had gotten more attention from his sisters and family then he did, and while he was not nessesarily resentful (after all, they were both disabled while he clearly wasn't), he did feel as though he was lacking in the attention he needed to flourish. It really wasn't anyones fault, he WAS a brother in a litter of 5 after all. It's overwhelming for any mother, especially a single one, even with outside help. Well, at least he was understanding. It was a trait everyone in his family seemed to have. Claudius had wandered away from home to go to a nearby tea shop. He needed a nice warm cup and a quiet space to think. Where was he going in life? His siblings all seemed to have a deep sence of what they wanted with their lives, but he...didn't. Was he just so childish that he couldn't have thought about such a life altering question earlier? Maybe it was time to grow up. He sat down at a table, and ordered a nice cup of pomegrante ginger tea, before settling back in the chair made for animal forms and trying to make answers for difficult questions.

Today was a momentous, amazing, memorable day. It would go down in history for eons, sure to become a holiday in many parts of the world, celebrated by people for generations to come. It would go down in legend, whispered about in secret societies and studied by future historians. Today was the day Kaiesha was allowed to make a trip to the Capital alone. She was eleven years old when her parents had finally concented to go to visit her grandmother and uncles on her own, and they had left her with very specific instructions. Don't talk to strangers, send us a letter as soon as you arrive, be safe, don't do anything we wouldn't do, go right to grandma's house, and most important: Be careful of men, for they are dangerous creatures who would surely prey on such a beautiful little girl. "Beautiful little girl" were three words that had caused her to ruffle her feathers happily. It was, in fact, the only one of their words that had really managed to stick in her mind, and rather than going straight to grandma's, she found herself in a beautiful little place that sold tea. And it was there that she had sat, cradling a warm and fruity blend in her claws, glancing around the room cheerfully. There weren't many people there, just one young person... a Doe? No, they had horns... Then they were a man. She stared openly at the young male, blinking wide blue eyes. A young man, at that. She was sure that was even more dangerous! It was probably bad, but she secretly hoped he'd look at her.

The server came back quickly, and Claudius thanked her quietly and with a very small smile. When she moved away, he turned his head to look at the dark crimson liquid in the white animal cup, little leaves decorating the bottom and moving slowly. He sighed a little as he took in a little gulp, the liquid being warm and satisfying. However, it didn't make all his troubles go away as he had hoped. He allowed his golden hooves to rest on the table as he looked deep into his cup, seeing his reflection staring back at him dimly.
The whole mess started the other day when Ilana went outside with him to look at the stars. Every now and again they spent time together, when she wasn't taking care of Aurelius or Irving, and she was just about the only one he spent a good amount of time with now. Ilana started talking to him about the future, asking him where he wanted to live, if he wanted to get married, what he wanted to do, all the kinds of things people started thinking about at 16. After all 18 was only two years away...and then he would be an adult! She had plenty of answers for him, and he really didn't have any for her.
Where did he want to live? He had never really been anywhere other then Capital City. Did he want to get married? Maybe...but...he thought he was a little young to be thinking about that...Ilana was a girl so she could get away with such thoughts. But the most troubling question she asked is what he was going to do with his life. He really didn't know. Did he really even have to start thinking about that? He sighed, and realized he kinda did.
He was so wrapped up in his own thoughts that he didn't notice that one or two tables down a young mix was looking at him. It was only when the shattering sound of a cup sounded in her general direction that he looked up, and finally realized he was being watched. He looked back at the strange mix, his maroon eyes unblinking. Why had she been looking at him?

Wow, he had weird colors... He looked an awful lot like her grandmother, the young hybrid mused, except... Not a bird, his spots were different, and he had a lot of gold on his body. It was sorta pretty, she mused, but she felt wrong thinking that. Boys weren't pretty. Boys were demons and devils and were not to be trusted under any circumstance, and they were most certainly /not/ to be admired for having pretty colors! The girl turned back to her tea, shaking her head slightly. She didn't need to think about boys, especially not boys being pretty!
She couldn't help herself though, lifting clear blue eyes once more to stare at the young buck.
Next to her, someone fumbled with their cup and it fell to the ground, shattering with an alarming noise, and Kaiesha jumped slightly, a startled chirp escaping her. It was an undignified noise and she quickly glanced over to the deer, wondering if he'd heard her, and found his maroon eyes on her own. Under her pale feathers she blushed deeply, turning back to her tea - he had seen her! He had seen her looking at him! What was she supposed to do?!

The cup had startled her, but even more startling seemed to be the fact that he spotted her. He couldn't help but blush a bit as she did when she realized that he was looking at her. Why such suprise and blushing? He hated blushing, that was the kinda crap that Ilana and Aurelius did often. He hated that it seemed to be a inherited trait in his family. He let the color seep out of his cheeks before turning back to his tea. He really needed to get such a horrible reaction to quit happening so often.
He thought he could easily go back to his tea, but with his previous thoughts shattered like the cup, and new thoughts of the girl looking at him, he found that he was unable to. He looked over at the mix again. She seemed as if she was trying very hard to ignore him, something that made him chuckle a little bit. Now he really couldn't help but be curious. He took the tea saucer with the cup in his mouth and walked over to the table where the strange mix was sitting. He was undaunted by her rank...after all...Igal had the same. He put the cup on the table and settled into a chair across from her. "I couldn't help but notice...that you were looking at me. Any particular reason?" he smiled a bit at her, even though his insides still felt a bit dark. Oh well...might as well change that with company. Claudius wasn't against escapisms at the moment.

The girl was staring very intently at her cup of tea, gaze completely fixed on it. She didn't dare look up for fear that the boy would try to talk to her or something - that would be highly embarassing! She was so wrapped up in staring at her teacup that she didn't even notice when the boy began to walk towards her, looking up with a somewhat embarassed expression as he pulled into the seat across from her and began to actually speak to her, much to her distress. She just wasn't sure how to answer him!
"Hi," she said in a musical but soft voice, eyes darting from the brightly colored boy back to her cup of tea. Since he was actually talking to her, she knew it would be rude to ignore him, and she was a daughter of nobles. Rudeness did not become of her. "I've never seen a boy doe before." It was a bad excuse, but it was true. She needed to act more relaxed about all of this, so she reached out a forepaw and picked up her glass, taking a shakey sip of it.
It shouldn't have been any sort of surprise, then, when she managed to upend the tea all over her front. She let out a dismayed chirp, pawing at herself with a napkin - at least the tea was no longer hot! "Oh no![/b]"

He would have to tone it down slightly. For one reason or another, the pretty bird mix before him seemed entirely distressed to an abnormal level. Maybe he would just talk for a moment and then leave her be so as not to ruffle her feathers further. He hoped that it wasn't the fact that he was a club. Not that it would be horribly disappointing, it wouldn't be the first time he had been denied company due to his rank, but he was just so used to his family being so accepting he often forgot that the world outside was much different.
He smiled when she seemed friendly enough, if not nervous. Maybe she was just embarrassed that he had cought her looking at him. He gave her the most friendly of smiles he could muster, trying to encourage her to see that he really wasn't that bad. Wouldn't do to have company that was anxious of you. Suddenly she called him a doe! What?! He started blushing again, his most hated reaction, his eyes wide, "But I'm a buck!" he said indignantly turning his head to show the horns protruding from the back, "See....I was just....born with a defect that made them seem to disappear behind my head....but..." Well now he was all flustered...Aurelius was the girl of the family! Not him!
It was about then that she dropped her tea all over herself. And he quickly stood, though wasn't sure what to do...since he was certain the little mix didn't want his hooves all over her trying to help. He picked up a napkin that was his and walked over to her, offering her a clean one, "You can use this if you need.....and I can buy you a new cup if you'd like..." he said, mumbling a bit with the napkin in his mouth. After all, he had been making her nervous, and that lead to the accident, it was the least he could do.

A buck? She'd never heard of or even met a buck before - her parents had done a good job raising her as a Yarrow Daughter should be raised, with very little contact with men. In fact, the only male that Kaiesha had spent extended periods of time with was her Grandpapa, and in a way he didn't count - he was very sweet, not at all the monster that men were supposed to be.
Granted, neither was the boy-doe with his backwards horns, but he was still something wildly unfamiliar to the girl, and she really didn't have the slightest clue for how to deal with him.
"M-mommy would be so unhappy with me," the girl whimpered pathetically, pawing hopelessly at her feathers. Though she was mopping great volumes of water off of herself the white feathers, the normally pristine plumage was quickly stained to the same light tan of her tea. The sparrow-hybrid let out another dismayed chirp, looking up at the boy with the start of tears welling up in her eyes. "W-what should I do?" she said, the emotion in her voice threatening to spill over.

His brows furrowed slightly, "Well...your mom isn't here right now...there's nothing to worry about. It was an accident." he said softly, trying to sooth the very bothered mix. Her little noises were horribly adorible ...he hadn't really heard bird sounds quite like hers before, but now was not the time to admire such things. When she asked him what she should do, he looked around. What could she do to get the tea stain out. He hmmed...trying to think quickly so that she wouldn't start crying. "Oh...Don't cry...We'll figure something out..."
Then it hit him! Soap would do the trick. "Soap! Of course...let me just get some on this napkin...and get you a dry one...and maybe another wet one...I'm sure the store won't mind if you take a small towel bath...Bad for buisness otherwise."[/] he said nodding a bit, trying to help sooth her. With that he troopsed off into the bathroom and came back with a soapy napkin. "I'll get a wet and dry one for you now." he went away again and alerted a waitress to please bring the napkins to the table, and she nodded emphatically before running off to get what they needed.
Claudius came back and sat down. He hoped this would work.

Kaiesha sniffled again as she watched the boy rush all around her, completely taken aback by his kindness. She'd been taught a number of things about boys and strangers. Her entire education had pushed the idea that they were both out to take advantage of young girls and women like herself, and she'd believed what she'd heard without question. Her feathers were drawn flush with her body, her confusion evident. This boy was also a stranger, and he was being so very kind to her, helping her clean herself and even working to keep her from crying...
How was she supposed to react to that? The girl finally decided that the reason for this boy's kindness was right in front of her, in his upside-down antlers. They must have been an outward sign of some strange full-body mutation that made the boy so... very kind.
When the deer returned, Kaiesha looked more bewildered than tearful, and she graciously accepted all of the things that Claudius had brought to her. She began to clean herself again, letting out a delighted sort of chirp as she saw traces of staining begin to fade away as she scrubbed. Her feathers fluffed delightedly, and she looked back up at the boy, still a little shyly. "It's just not proper for a lady, you see," she finally began to explain. "Spilling tea all over... And not introducing herself. My name's Kaiesha." she gave him a small smile.
Since he had some kind of backwards and upside-down disease, it must be okay for her to talk to him.
