The Sparrow trembled as another sob broke from her. It was terrible to think about what had happened all on its own, let alone taking into consideration the fact that she hadn't rushed to her Queen's side. She should have been here, protecting the woman, but... She'd been ever so soundly asleep before, and she'd assumed all would be well until she'd seen the hated man skulking towards her beloved's room.
"It... It was terrible." She whispered, feeling her thoughts swirl in her own head with no clear beginning or end. The sight of her brother as his organs left him, bleeding out slowly and fading before their very eyes; Khushrenada's slightly more swift end as his spine was severed. Children - not as she'd ever known them before, but children none the less - born into the world and made orphans all at once. How could she explain it?
She swallowed, hard, doing her best to still her tears and stroking the Yarrow's head, feeling some comfort in hir arms. "Magic. There is foul magic afoot here, my love. They both died in labor, if it can be called that--" Her words were cut off as she simultaneously felt a wave of discomfort pass through her, and her love's middle seemed to swell...
No.
NO!
The signs - she'd seen it twice already, the swelling, the movement, all of it was the same --
The woman shouted with terror, turning to face the Donkey, eyes wide with horror. "YARRAST! You must find help, my Queen is -- Shi is --!"

Shi twisted to try and ease the discomfort as it continued to grow, hir brow furrowing as shi tried to figure out what was going on. Shi...shi had to take care of the current situation. Shi had to ease Ceren's distress, and then shi could figure out why shi didn't feel very good. Not good at all. Perhaps shi should change hir form? But that took just a little more concentration than shi was really able to muster right now.
"Magic? But who would - ah - who would attack the Court like..." Iria trailed off, shifting in Ceren's arms again. That really didn't feel good, not at all. And then hir gaze trailed down to where the loose fabric of hir gown was starting to stretch about hir, and hir eyes went wide in shock and horror. What was going on? It was as if shi was pregnant again- In labor? That was what Ceren had said, wasn't it?
Hir gaze snapped around to Ceren, locking onto the sparrow with terrified desperation, hir hands locking on feathered arms.
"Ceren?! Ceren, what's going on?!" And if fear was laced all throughout hir voice, then shi likely couldn't be blamed for it. Not when this was happening, not when hir body was being twisted uncomfortably into something utterly wrong, utterly misshapen. "Beloved?" Hir voice dropped to a frightened whisper, and she groaned softly.

This couldn't be happening. Tears nearly blinded the woman, and she felt torn. Part of her needed to run, to find help. But most of her needed to be here, with the Queen she'd loved for as long as she could reasonably remember. She shook as she clung to the Yarrow, her own physical state completely forgotten.
If she ran, she might be able to find help. But if she wasn't fast enough, Iria would die alone. That thought was too much to bear, and she squeezed her eyes shut tightly. All she could do was rely on the mysterious King to do as she'd commanded, pray it was fast enough to save her heart. That quiet whisper, sounding so much like a plea, shook the Lakelander from her mental stupor, and she turned her full attention back to Iria. She pulled the human against her body, gently nuzzling the golden head.
"I wish I could tell you," she whispered, voice sounding bizarrely calm to her own ears. "But I am here, I am with you, and I love you. Please, don't worry. Help will be here soon."

Shi rested hir swelling body against Ceren, shuddering in discomfort and pain and fear, and felt hirself settle in a position that was familiar. Slightly different, as shi'd spent most of the latter part of hir pregnancy in hir Biped form - had shi already thought that? The thought was familiar, but shi wasn't sure. Still, despite the growing pain, shi remembered being curled almost like this when shi was heavily pregnant with their daughters, Ceren holding hir in much the same way as she was now, cradling the weight and bulk of hir body with her own.
"I love you too," shi whispered back, still holding onto her tightly as shi pressed hir head against her chest. "I will always love you Ceren, my own." Shi had to say that, as many times as shi needed to right now. Fatalistic fear started to race through hir. Would this be it, then? Was this all that shi was to have of hir life? It had been a good life, but shi didn't want to end it now. Not when... "There's so much more I want to do with you," shi confessed, eyes wide. "So many things to do, so many places to go...!" The suddenness of this was terrifying.

The words cut Ceren deep, a knife wound she had no way to patch.
Not when she'd seen this already. Her brother, Khushrenada... Why did this have to happen to those she loved, trusted? Why wasn't Yarrast (she realized belatedly that it really had nothing to do with him; he was just a useful mental scapegoat in a time as terrible as this one) the one swelling and looking as if he was about to burst? That was the most frustrating of all: Everything felt like a personal attack, of sorts. She had come here to escape the horrors, hide from her own memories.
But it came back again to find her.
She pulled away from Iria, blinking slowly as she made eye contact with the Queen. "Hush, now," she said softly, voice barely above a whisper. Why had she let herself panic so? She should have kept her calm, for the sake of her love. This wasn't helping anything, and was tearing into her heart most terribly. "There will be many more times for you to give me the gift of your love." She managed a smile, genuine despite the circumstances.
Maybe she could help now. "And we will have the rest of our long, long lives to spend together, and then on into the afterlife." If there was such a thing - Ceren herself was inclined to believe there was, just because it meant she would have more time with her beloved.

Yarrast fell out of his chair when the rate of the women were... expanding... He mouthed wordlessly at Ceren's request to get help. "This....this wasn't what was supposed to happen." He whimpered, eyes round as he stared his body twisting with fear. ((With a sudden popping noise, Iria's entire body twists, hir spine snapping and slipping out the back as something bursts out of hir body. Hir entire front slits open, as the paralyzed Queen can only stare at what tumbles out.))ID: SD Name: ---- Suit: Diamonds Rank: Seven Gender: Female Animal: Feline (Cheetah) / Hoofed Mammal (Donkey) Region: Durum Veldt / Yarrow Gardens Dealer: Shinigami Parents: Iria x Yarrast Notes: This beautiful girl can actually fly, her little wings magically allowing her to hover about 5 feet off the ground. Though she can only manage about 15 minutes at a time before becoming exhausted. Her beauty is fairly incredible and her eyes are the most piercing blue, it feels as though they're staring beyond just your face... She appears to have been born as an average 5 year old, and knows about as much as one of them, brought up in a noble house. Basic Magical Ability: She can act charismatic and persuasive at times, whether or not she actually has the natural charm and grace to pull it off. Moderate Magical Ability: When activated, she can decipher up to two languages of the player's choosing. These languages are in addition to the common tongue and the Diamond house language. (( Yarrast gave the bloody mass that slid out a horrified jaw-dropping stare and then gazed back up at the women.)) "It wasn't supposed to... Not like this, it wasn't...this wasn't what was supposed to-" He slid down the wall, horrified. Iria will live for another minute or so before dying. The creature appears to have been born at about 5 years of age...how incredibly strange... ~Nathalia

[ooc: ...oh my gods. She is beautiful. The Yarrow colors and the Veldt patterning. And Iria, oh my Iria. Farewell, my Iria.]
Iria's mouth fell open - and then opened further, and further, until it felt like hir jaw was about to come unhinged. Hir head fell back, hands clutching spasmodically and scrabbling at Ceren's arms as pain twisted all throughout hir body, and then there was an explosion of agony so intense, so sharp and brutal that it seemed to wipe away all previous pains. Shi couldn't manage the breath to even scream as hir spine twisted and then snapped, unable to even hear as hir body tore itself open, spilling that damp, bloody form to the ground.
Hir eyes stared upward, shuddering faintly now that the mass was gone from hir. Shi could barely breathe, barely move. Still, shi dragged her gaze down to hir beloved, because shi had to, had to see her one more time. Desperately, shi tried to pull breath into hir lungs. Shi wanted to reach up to hir beloved, but shi couldn't move hir hands very well. It hurt. It hurt, but at the same time it didn't hurt nearly as much as shi felt that it probably should have.
"Ceren..." shi finally whispered, voice airy and breathy. "I..." Shi struggled for breath, even as things started to fade, and struggled to lift a hand, trying to touch a feathered cheek. "I lo... I love..." And then breath and sight and touch faded away, even though shi desperately didn't want it to.
Meanwhile, the little girl fell to the ground, soaked with her mother's blood. She cried out in shock and pain, attempting to struggle to her feet. What was going on? She didn't know what was happening, but she was cold and wet and scared, and she knew that something was really wrong. The little girl tried to look up through a blood-stained golden mane, and burst into frightened, confused tears.
She tried again to get to her feet, but they were utterly unsteady beneath her, and she didn't know why. They'd always worked fine for her, hadn't they? Why weren't they working now?

The world ended. Things had happened exactly as she'd feared, with one horrifying twist. The child laying on the ground was clearly born of Iria, and... of Yarrast. The hooves, the ears, the gently curving wheat-like markings, there was just... Too much. She clung to the dying Queen, choking on her own sobs as the woman died in her arms. " Iria, please, save your breath, love..." She whimpered, smoothing back the hair from hir face, wiping aside a spatter of blood and one of her own tears. " I'll get help, we'll -- we'll save you..." But the words were meaningless, in the end. Of course they had been. There was no way anyone could survive what had happened. She stared down at the lifeless body, at the form of the infant who had taken that precious life from her. Her heart was still beating, it must have been, but Ceren felt in that moment as if it had left her. Her life had died in her arms, her life was rapidly cooling to the air. Gingerly, Ceren laid her life down on the bed, whispering a quiet prayer. Then she turned to Yarrast, a vision of fury. His words meant nothing, only strengthened his guilt in her mind. He had taken her life from her, and he would pay. " No, it wasn't supposed to go like this," she agreed, a light tremble in her voice. " We were supposed to die old together, in a little home in the Yarrow. We were supposed to watch our daughters grow and find loves of their own. It wasn't supposed to end." She stood, her feathers rustling as she looked at the man. " You stole hir from me." The next thing that left the Sparrow was wordless, a scream of rage and loss so profound there were no words in any language that could express it. She threw herself at the man, talons extended, beak open and ready to rend at his flesh. Ceren was not a fighter, not really. But she would be damned if she wasn't going to try to avenge her Queen, her love, her wife. Along with her body she launched a spell, preparing herself for impact. There was a quiet noise from outside the door, and Kaiesha entered in time to see her Father launch herself at a strange man. She screamed, pressing herself back against the door in wide-eyed horror as the rest of the scene sunk in - her Mother was dead on the bed, there was gore everywhere, and in the middle of it all, a little girl was crying. Kaiesha screamed and screamed, brain unable to fully process the horror beyond simple terror. That man. He must have done it. Why else would her father be attacking him so desperately? (( Ceren rolled 13 to attack <3
Moderate Ability Once a week, she is able to cause an opponents' body to feel 100 pounds heavier than it actually is for a full hour. This not only startles an opponent, but makes it very difficult for them to move quickly and causes most to stumble and crawl as they get used to the oppressive weight.))

"Your Highness, please!" The man yelped, (18) only just barely leaping out of the way and getting a good number of talons down the side of his neck...what should have been his eyes!
His shriek of fear was incredible as he desperately scrabbled away from her, toward the door. Casting a spell over his shoulders. This couldn't be happening, this couldn't be happening! It wasn't the way it was supposed to be!! He'd been promised something else entirely, this was just...none of it had worked, the way it was supposed to.
King's Ability: Once a week, he is able to cause another Card ranked anything but Joker, to root themselves to the floor for a full 5 minutes. They cannot move from the spot, but they can force objects that weigh 100lbs or less to come to them...

Hadiya sobbed loudly, but her breath caught in her throat at the screams - one of rage, one of terror, the two sounds intertwining and ringing in her head in a way that made her want to convulse and cry harder. Her paws scrabbled at her head, long ears laying down against her head and neck as she tried to silence the noises.
"Mama!" she sobbed. "Mama, make it stop! Mama!" She didn't know where her Mama was, which was even scarier. Her Mama was always there for her, taking care of her, so why wasn't she here now? Why was this happening?
Finally Hadiya managed to scramble to her feet and stagger toward the door, even though that was where one of the screams was coming from. She stayed close to the wall though, because the other scream - the angry one - was close-by as well, and that scream frightened her badly. Then again, it seemed like right now all she could be was frightened.
"Help me," the little girl whimpered. "Help!"
