"You're being ridiculous, H.P.," Kyriaki said with authority, though she certainly had none in this arena. Still, it was obvious that Thalia was far too good to just steal things when she could be caught. Well, maybe. Kyri wondered secretly if she could learn to do that as well. It would be really cool.
"I am not being ridiculous!" the canine replied in distress, the tentacles not holding onto his pastry-- delicious, though he dare not eat it now-- were wringing each other much like people would wring their hands. He sent Jovan a look of relief; yes, yes, the girl must be joking!
Still, when she assured them that she was, he still wasn't quite certain he believed her. But. . . the pastry was so yummy. He was in a quandary. He scooted a little bit closer to Jovan as though his brother's proximity might take away any taint of the teasing and force the pastry to not be stolen.

Jovan stretched out a tentacle, wrapping it with a hint of protectiveness around H.P. "It's okay, H.P., I'm sure she means it... She wouldn't steal your pastry when she knows that bothers you so." He licked his brother's ear before glancing up to Thalia. He hoped she wouldn't, that would be quite mean... and Kyri why was she backing the new girl so much? Maybe it was a Corvistowne thing?
He glanced at his brothers... only to catch sight of Nico's fluffy little tail as it bounced after something. "Nico?!" The Jack didn't yell, but he did make a terribly humorous expression before turning to hurry after him. "One moment! I'll get him!."
Nico froze halfway through the conversation, struck by a new sound entering the area. It was a very loud sound, but very pretty. They must have been very pretty, he thought, but he couldn't figure out what colors they were. Which usually meant that had lots of pretty colors!
He pranced away into the crowd, trying his hardest to isolate the new and pretty noise from the jumble of other sounds.

Thalia was thankful for Kyri's backup. She seemed to know how to have fun, at least--perhaps a drive for fun was a Corvie thing?...Maybe Thalia could show her the lab sometime and how to mutate banders and make little girl-banders into little boy-banders. She thought maybe Kyri would like that. It would be fun times.
And then suddenly the adorable fluffball was gone and his brother was chasing after him, and she forgot all about teasing H.P. (for the moment, at least). She wasn't quite sure why she had gotten so attached to the cute little thing, but she didn't want him out of her sight. Could he be rolling up trash and people and carriages without her? That would be a tragedy. He couldn't play the game without her.
She bounded after him into the crowd. "Nico! Don't roll people!"

H.P. finally let himself be reassured; obviously Jovan couldn't be wrong and the lick to his ear helped him feel even more certain of Jovan's rightness. With this in mind, he cheerily continued to munch on his pastry. He looked up in alarm, however, when Nico bounded off. Of course Jovan went to fetch him; that's just what the older brother did. But then Thalia went. H.P.'s ears began to droop in distress. People made fun of him when he was by himself. At least Kyri was still--
As soon as Thalia went haring off with her calls about rolling things up, Kyriaki darted off as well; she certainly wasn't going to be left behind by her new hero! H.P. squeaked in alarm and was quick to run to catch up with his sister. Everyone was so crazy with Thalia around! He didn't like it!

Jovan nearly stumbled in his steps.
Nico, don't roll people? ...He was momentarily so distracted by how utterly impossible the concept of Nico even rolling was that he nearly forgot to keep chasing him. Slowly he shook his head and picked up his pace, catching up with the happily distracted fawn.
He was humming softly, obviously matching pitches with whoever had wandered through his noisy world. "Nico?" he mumured, slipping a tentacle around his brother to keep him from stumbling when he was nudged back to reality. "You wandered off again."
Nico stopped humming suddenly, opening his eyes to see everyone hurrying in his direction. Oh no.... "I..." he glanced over his shoulder, looking for the pretty sound. It was gone. "I'm sorry, but it was so pretty... I'm sorry you didn't hear it, Jovan..."
Jovan shook his head and licked his brother lightly. "Don't worry, you didn't go too far. Lets get back.. though." He turned his head in time to see the entire group had caught up to them instead. Ah, well that worked.
"Heh. So uhm, I guess we're all together again."
Nico shuffled a hoof. "Sorry."

Thalia wanted to pull him into a big hug and call him cute names, and then maybe steal him away forever and for always so she could have a little Nicoball to pet whenever she wanted. (Though that would probably entail adopting Jovan also. And then she might have to take Kyri and H.P. so none of them would be lonely without their siblings. So many children.)
She wasn't sure what was going on with all these pretty noises they were talking about, but she guessed maybe that Nico was mutated in ways more than physical. Very interesting; very interesting indeed.
"It's all good," she said affectionately. Nico hadn't gotten run over by people or carriages or alien objects falling out of the sky or anything, and that was always a plus. She didn't want anyone getting flattened. "What's all this then about pretty noises?"

H.P. slipped closer to his eldest brother to give him a little nuzzle as well. He generally wasn't worried when Nico wander off because Jovan was always there to protect him. It didn't occur to him that Jovan likely did the worrying for them all. His tentacles wiggled and he sent his other brother something like an encouraging smile.
Kyriaki tilted her head curiously at her siblings. H.P. was turning into such a wuss. Poor boy. But she wasn't too terribly concerned about him; he actually fell just above Jovan, but way under Nico. She remembered the stories about how broken Nico was at birth. She didn't want that to ever happen to him again. Her ears perked up at Thalia's question, though, and she was quick to jump in so she could explain. "Nico hears colours! He's always done that." Her tail flicked hopefully.

Nico smiled a little, relaxing under everyone's attention. His family was so nice... even if Kyri seemed a little more interested in Thalia than worrying, which wasn't bad at all as he didn't like to make people worry.
And then the matter of his color-hearing came up. The boy beamed more than usual and bobbed his head with authority. "Yep! It's called Synesthesia, so the senses get all mixed up. It's a little weird sometimes, in the city especially... cause everyone is very colorful and there's lots going on..." He paused and smiled brightly. "You look and sound very pretty, Thalia~"
Jovan stood back ever so slightly, watching his brother and their new 'friend'. She was a nice person, however odd, and he was glad to see she had been genuinely concerned for Nico's wandering... even if she'd been going on about rolling people, which made very little sense.
"Not even grandma is sure what caused it, and she works with genetics."

Thalia was quite interested in meeting this grandmother person--the entire rest of the family, actually, if they had a lot of Corvies in there, which they seemed to. She wasn't terribly concerned about Nico hearing colors. Sometimes the wires in the brain just got crossed. It wasn't a symptom of a bigger problem. As far as she had ever heard.
She'd heard of that happening with words and colors, too. Poets usually pretended to have it. It was fashionable, apparently. Thalia thought it would probably be distracting and inconvenient, but that was mostly because she was a very easily distracted person (she was one of the very few Corvies she knew of with broad-spectrum interests rather than a concentrated one, like some kind of research ADHD), and the constant color bombardment would probably send her into a seizure.
"I bet you're destined for artistic greatness," she told Nico, confident in her assessment. "When you get hands, you should try painting, or music."

(I'm going to go ahead and pull Jovan and Nico out of this. <3 If you two are continuing feel free to assume that Nico got distracted and followed someone off. Again. XD)
