Where she walked, the crowds parted. Thick tentacles wove in the air above her head, a dancing pattern that would have been quite lovely if something a bit more graceful and pretty was doing the moves. As it was, instead of a lovely pair of wings fluttering over her black and green back, the four tentacles caused the crowds to press back. Her cloven hooves tapped a staccato against the street stones as her large ears curved forward, almost emphasizing her canine face. Kyriaki paused briefly, dark eyes searching. Where he walked, the crowds ran. His pale blue hide and stripes, pretty in of themselves, could not distract from the mass attached to his face. He kept his suckers retracted and nervously rub them together-- something equivalent to what a human Card might do with their hands-- letting the soft fur glide one way then the other with the motions. His green eyes shifted one way then the other, watching anxiously as cards bolted away or simply stared at him in disgust. His paws padded softly after his sister and he fought the urge to flatten his ears against his body. It wasn't his fault his face looked like this! The only good thing about being out in public with Kyriaki was that people tended to assume that she had done this to him and not that he had been born with such a monstrous mutation. Helios Praxis, H.P. to his family, winced when a baby began to wail at the sight of his face. His ears wilted and he slunk after the girl. So much for that. Needless to say, Thalia was not accustomed to seeing other people with tentacles. The only other person she knew of who had them, in fact, was her mama, and she had always thought them part of some fun little Tentacle Club, like her Mom and sister Helena and herself were in the Hey, My Hair Moves! Club. She didn't expect to run across people with such spare limbs walking down the street, was all she was trying to say. And there they were. Little kids, some years younger than herself. One of them had tentacles on his face. Her Corvie Weird Detector, which had been seemingly kicked into hyperdrive with the advent of puberty a few years ago, blared wildly in her brain, and she was quite immediately fascinated by the tentacle children. She knew that her own mutation had been the result of her mad, mad mama experimenting with a strange concoction. She wondered what had happened to these kids. Could a Corvie as young as the girl perform an experiment like that? (Considering that Thalia herself had been performing gender reassignment surgery on banders at that point, she figured anything was possible.) She made her way over to the kids, and grinned. "You've got some interesting appendages there."

Kyriaki turned sharply at the voice. Actually, it was less the voice she was responding to and more the words. She was more than ready to snap off the nose of whoever was addressing them, but the sight of the other girl arrested her words before they could come out. Her neon greens eyes slowly took in the teenager before them and she stared in contemplation.
For one thing, the Corvie mix before them was beautiful and Kyri immediately felt an ache of jealousy. She wished she could have the lovely pink, yellow, and purple contrasting against the black. Her own neon green and yellow and gold stripes were far too masculine to her own mind. She was lucky to have delicate legs, but they couldn't compare to the lovely paws attached to the gentle lines of this. Kyri gave a small sigh of longing, unaware that she had done so aloud.
H.P. stole a quick, surprised towards his sister. What in the world was she sighing over? And why had she completely ignored the girl's question? He glanced back towards the newcomer, but was mostly surprised to see that they weren't the only ones with tentacles. "You're one to talk," he retorted, though it wasn't malicious.

"They always leave me behind." Nico's voice was little, almost inaudible, compared to the cacophony around him. Trips to the Capital were a near deafening experience for the little deer with all the sounds and colors that the city had to offer. It was a bit much to endure on a daily basis, but he enjoyed the occasional chance to get out. The only downside to these outings, in Nico's opinion at least, were that he always got left behind. Kyri and H.P. didn't seem to like to stay still for too long, people made faces, but Nico was prone to getting distracted by all sorts of things. Music and especially colorful people to be exact. "If you weren't always stopping then they wouldn't leave us behind, Nico." Jovan, of course, was Nico's body guard. Well, he was technically just his brother but he had grown into the habit of strutting around like Thallak escorting their mum that he carried an air of protection that could be called nothing else. It was his duty to make sure the easily breakable deer didn't get distracted by something and trip. Tripping always resulted in something breaking, even if it was something small, and that always plopped Nico into the doctor's office. Nico hated it there. "I can't help it! It's so noisy here..." Nico got better at filtering out all the noises every time he came to the City, he just needed to practice more... Maybe he ought to come alone and... The fawn abruptly stopped dead in his track, distracted by two very prominent things: the sound of H.P.'s voice and a very erratic but very pretty song. All four of his little golden-brown eyes were immediately on Thalia and he didn't seem to notice the last few steps that carried the albino mix into the radius of his siblings. "^.^ You sound pretty," he announced from the blue despite having yet to hear a word from her mouth, and continued to beam happily in her general direction. Jovan wasn't sure what to feel at such an outburst... Nico had never had an outburst like that before... Nor did it help that the boy hadn't really opened his eyes, he was just swaying happily to her 'sound'. "Errrr..." His tentacles writhed a little in uncertainty before his eyes fell on the girl's tentacles and he eased up a bit. They were all a little weird-looking, they might as well not worry... right? "Hi Kyri, H.P... Who's this?"

Thalia had been about to respond to the boy with the tentacle mouth--either Kyri or H.P., apparently, and Thalia was willing to bet H.P.--when new people arrived on the scene. Judging by name-knowledge and similar gold and brown patterns (and the fact that another of them had tentacles), she would be willing to bet that they were all siblings.
One of whom was staring at her in a somewhat dreamy manner, and another (with an adorable set of antlers and wings; some scientist had went to town on these kids) who had just made a very strange pronouncement. Well, at least her day was going to be interesting; she liked colorful personalities. And being surrounded by tentacles filled her with an odd sense of comfort, like she had just discovered Her People.
"Thanks!" she said, cheerfully, to the antlered albino. "I'm Thalia. I've actually just met your...brother and sister here. I'd noticed that we shared...a similar characteristic." She wagged her tentacles, and then realized that one of them was now holding a purse. Damn it. She must have extended it without noticing again. She tossed the purse. "Anyway! It's very nice to meet you all." She looked at Kyri slyly. "Are you our responsible mad scientist?"

The sounds of her brothers speaking wasn't quite enough to snap her out of her almost daze, but H.P. turned to look at them with some relief. "Oh, you got Nico," he said to his younger brother. Jovan was definitely like Thallak. H.P. wished he could emulate their daddies too, but he couldn't seem to get over his face. He gave a small, inner sigh. That was neither here nor there just now, though.
When Thalia spoke to her, the younger girl snapped to attention. "Oh, oh. . . . I. . . I only wish I could claim that!" She didn't normally have a stutter, but she was so shocked to be addressed by this beauteous sight that she just kept getting distracted. She prided herself on being more technically-minded and even smarter than all three of her brothers. "We were, uh, we were born like this. How about you?" It just seemed fitting to ask the same question back.

Nico was absolutely in bliss. Everyone here sounded so nice, much better than the wave of sound shifting outside of their small inner circle. Even better yet, once he opened his eyes he found himself peering at the owner of the pretty song and her tentacles and his expression brightened even more.
Now the rest of his siblings would have someone to talk to that wouldn't look at them funny and perhaps he wouldn't have to play catch up when... well, when things like this happened.
Jovan simply smiled wryly and nodded to H.P., snaking out a softly furred tentacle to stroke his brother affectionately. Poor Nico was so fragile and Thallak had told him so many times that Jovan must watch his 'twin'. "Don't I always?"
Just then Thalia spoke up and managed to snap poor Kyri out of... a trance? She wasn't usually prone to those little distractions like Nico was... Odd. "I'm Jovan, and this is Nico." He motioned to the four-eyed fawn briefly before stopping to take in the conversation between the two girls.
Kryi a mad scientist? Maybe... but not their mad scientist. Jovan waggled one of his tentacles briefly and wrinkled his nose. No, he was pretty sure Grandma Ophe was to blame for that one, least that's what Mama claimed.
"Hi Thalia~", Nico chimed back only to make a rather odd face shortly after. He'd heard something just awful walking by and the little hairs along the back of his neck stood on end for a moment. It took every muscle in his quivering form to keep from looking back to see what had gone past.
Guh, that was the awful part about the City!

Thalia was more than happy to explain, especially to another Corvie; perhaps what had happened in her case was similar to what had happened in theirs.
"In fine Corvie tradition, my mama decided to experiment on herself and put some kind of potion into her system. And bam! She sprouted tentacles, and I inherited it. Mine extend father than hers do, though. When you get 'em working well enough, you can do all kinds of fun things with them, like reach things in high places and secretly borrow pastries from bakeries. I'm hoping one day to be able to grow little suction cups on them, like yours have, with some little modifications; scaling walls would be great fun."
She was distracted by Nico, then, who looked like someone had just walked over his grave, going from perfectly happy to quite perturbed in a matter of seconds. She looked at him curiously and with concern. "You all right?"

H.P.'s ears flicked backwards at the older girl's words. "Why would you borrow a pastry?" he asked curiously. "Aren't you supposed to eat them? If you ate them, the bakers wouldn't want them back." His tentacles twisted around each other uneasily. He didn't want to make the girl mad, but it seemed wrong to just take stuff.
Kyriaki sent H.P. a flat, dark look, as though reprimanding him for daring to argue with the teenager. He stared back for a moment, but was quick to look away again. He wouldn't stare down his sister. He looked over to Jovan instead and gave an inner, mournful sigh. Everyone seemed to have their own little niche, and his was still lacking.
Kyri pushed on, glancing behind Nico at his shudders. The person in question, strictly speaking, didn't look so bad, but that certainly didn't matter to their eldest brother.

Jovan couldn't help but grin a little at Thalia's explanation. He wasn't entirely sure of the purpose of 'borrowing' pastries, and H.P. made the very sensible argument for him. Bakers didn't want borrowed pastries back, he was sure, so he didn't think they could be called 'borrowed'.
"Our momma doesn't have any tentacles, but she did some experiment on herself where all her Corvie markings disappeared. She thinks that's why Nico and I are mostly white. Grandma gave us the rest, though. She's a genetic Corvie, and really good at what she does." Jovan perked up a little. He liked Grandma, she wasn't all stuffy like grandparents usually were, she was fun.
When everyone's attention shifted to Nico, Jovan's followed and he smiled wryly. This was why Nico always got left behind or lost. He was instantly curious about any new 'sound' and had such a huge tendency to wander off after certain sounds or freeze up while they were doing something else. Jovan merely shook his head, watching Nico snap back to attention and assume his 'oops' face.
Nico didn't realize he'd been making such a face that everyone would notice and slowly his contorted features eased into a sheepish smile. "Someone sounds just awful, they clash..." He was used to chaotic music, Corvie's were masters of that, but every once in a while he found truly terrible mixes or, worse yet, really long flat sounds. Brown was a messy color when there was too much of it, it needed other colors to even it out... He and his siblings, he felt, had just enough brown and even so, they had the right sort of brown...
He tilted his head slightly, finding the person who was exuding such offending sound... They weren't that hard on the eyes, but the musical combination just didn't work. It was always like that. And then, suits forbidding, he had to speak to them. He would then have to stand closer to that sound and try his hardest to tune them out.
He fluttered his rather large wings and glanced back to Thalia and those long tentacles of hers. "Tentacles seem fun, I sort of wish I had some." It was sort of lonely being the only one without any.
