Son of a bitch. Kristoff should have been expecting something like this to happen... He felt more than a little unhappy about the ineffectiveness of his spade, but what was he expecting? It was a shovel. Shovels were for little girls to use in their gardens. Not to scare hideously mutated and terrifying monsters. But Kristoff wasn't about to just drop the damn thing, so he continued to wield it as if it was a weapon worth mentioning. He threw himself bodily at the beast, using claws to scratch and trying to plunge his tiny shovel into any part of the thing he could reach (16).
A blast of water splashed him along with the beast, and, yowling with shock and pain as a flailing arm smashed into his already-injured shoulder (10), Kristoff fell back and away from it. It took a moment for his brain to process things, but when he did, he was stunned. The shovels hadn't done much, but... the Spade water had seemed to hurt the thing. Shiiiit. He'd have to get himself some of that...
[[...Yep, that was a 20 for Kristoff.]]

( Omg… Brooke rolled a 1. Brandy rolled a 3. )
Brooke attempted to get out a scream, but that did little good as the thing reached out and snatched her. Icy hot panic went down her spine as she used one hand to grab at the once-arm. In the other, all she had was the silver trowel, which seemed so terribly ineffective at that moment. Still, she attempted to stab into the thing with her trowel as hard as she could. It might be blunt, but maybe it'd deter the beast from eating her. (15) The only other thing she could do was try to kick at the thing with her back legs, claws out in an attempt to scratch at it; anything to keep those vines at bay. (18)
Brandy on the other hand, had a voice still, and screamed. "Oh SUITS. Don't worry girl, I'm coming!" He leapt forward, even as his face told of the absolute horror on his face as he attempted to jab his spade into the beastly thing.
… Actually, fuck it. Brandy slammed the lamp at the back end of the beast. (15)

The thing screeched in agony and writhed as its motions became slightly more sluggish. (Please inform the Admin what Brandy's two Diamond languages are.) Its entire form seemed to twitch convulsively, as though having a seizure when the silver trowels embedded themselves into it. Some of the vines and thick foliage began to seep away from the things face as though hit with some kind of acid, eating it away from the inside.
Bits sloughed off, revealing patchy bits of red-hued fur and one wide terrified eye, swiveling about at all of them...while dangling uselessly from a few inches of cord and muscle. Thin, root-like structures protruded messily from the eye socket and the thing howled in agony and fell, Kristoff's attack sending it smashing into the ground on top of Brandy and spewing fleshy, gluey lumps across his face. The lamp smashed into its back just as Tavor's spells hit. The vines recoiled slowly as the utterly destroyed lamp began to light, setting two thick vines around the torso aflame. The movements slowly jerked to a halt as it seemed to fall unconscious.
To Tavor's left, two more doors creaked ominously.

The trowels seemed to be working, and both Brandy and Brooke continued their efforts to fell the beast with their rather ridiculous weapons.
In the aftermath of the battle, Brandy visibly shook with disgust, wiping away the viscous material off his face, spitting on the floor to rid his mouth of the awful mess. It had the consistency of… flesh. It wasn't like vines at all. They were now left without light, the only illumination now the flickering of leftover flame that had lit the vines on the beast.
Brooke ripped what was left of the vines off of her, genuinely shaken by the experience. When it dawned on her what Brandy had done to the lamp, she sighed. "Damnit, Brandy…"
"What? It was about to kill you!"
The creaking of doors halted any further argument, the two of them glancing toward the creaking doors. Brooke moved somewhat closer, but careful not to stand directly in front of the door. Casting worried, silent glances toward Kristoff, Teo and Tavor, she tried to read their reactions to see if they heard the noise as well.

Tavor's ears twisted back and an almost pained expression crossed his face. for one, that was a a waste of a perfectly good plant specimen that he could have Ophelia help him study and two, well.... it sounded more like a person then a plant. However, his ears jumped up for a moment before lying flat again when the doors creaked on his blind side .... why always that side?
He stepped away from the creaky doors and cautiously toward the plant monster, thing, person? If it didn't move he'd kneel down and use his cloak, which he'd found out was quite useful for putting out flames via his son, to put out any flames still burning on the thing.
It was officially dark again and the fur along the back of his neck stood on end. Hopefully the Spades would be intelligent enough to use their ability once more.
However, he couldn't quite resist the urge to take a piece of this discovery away with him for later analysis and reached down to pull a piece off the plant beast to shove into an empty container he held on his belt next to his powder vials for just this sort of opportunity. Well, normally it was interesting plants he'd never seen before but..... who could really plan for plants to come to life?

The water worked, and it worked well! Teo felt a moment of pride flash through his mind before the noise coming out of the thing caused him to jerk back and try in vain to cover his wings with his ears. At least they served as some sort of sound barrier. Ugh, that was awful!
And then it started falling apart. Oh Suits, that was revolting! And at the same time, that disgusting, dangling bit of eye caught his attention more assuredly and more intently than anything else that had yet happened on this ridiculous night. He stared at it as it had a fit. The plants inside of it - inside of it, WHY?! - they were just... writing and... pulsing and... so... gross...
"Was it... possessed by those plants or something?" he asked in a fascinated horror. "If they'd taken us outside and we hadn't found the shovels, would that have been us?!"
Just as the words left his beak, he registered a sound that sent all of the feathers along his spine tingling unpleasantly. His head whipped from side to side, eyes wide. Were more coming? Oh Suits, he didn't have infinite water...

Good, the attacks were effective. Kristoff continued his assault on the beast until it had fallen back, at which point he leaped away from it. His fur stood on end, his lips curled in a warning, trowel still clutched tightly in his mouth. Whatever was happening to the creature... Kristoff didn't like it, not at all. It just wasn't natural. A quiet hiss escaped him as it slumped back and he put himself between it and the ladies.
Then he just watched as it burned. That was a relief, of sorts. A plant that didn't burn would just be too goddamn much.
Turning from the dying creature, Kristoff glanced down the hall. One of his ears twitched as he caught the sound of... Something.
Oh, fuck that noise.
With a low growl, the feline approached the closer of the two doors, then rammed it with his uninjured shoulder. Best to get the jump on whatever was waiting there, rather than being caught unaware (9).

The creature's snarls were just so much mish-mash to their ears. Shame, though Teo did think it sounded vaguely like a language he'd heard once...couldn't recognize the words though. (I rolled a 1...) Kritoff's heave at the door, smashed it inwards with enough force that the door flew off the hinges. Hitting something behind it with a wet-sounding thud. The second door simply creaked open, revealing what looked to be an empty room, granted...their moving around and crashing into things could have opened that one. Kristoff's door, once lifted, revealed another now mercifully dead, Card-creature. Covered in the same foliage and horror as the other, it lies, completely flattened, beneath the door the Cat pulverized it with. The rooms both appear empty of life, and rather full of half-packed bags and open suit cases...hmmm..

When something didn't go charging out to kill them, Brooke hesitantly cast a glance around the corner. The door that Kristoff had knocked down was set off kilter, as if something big was under it. A… body. Seeing the lifeless extremity peeking out from under it covered in foliage, she visibly shuddered. "Oh Suits.. I think this one is dead."
"Better him than us." Brandy quipped, still brandishing his trowel hesitantly at the felled beast. Unlike the one flattened beneath the door, this one seemed like it was very much still alive.
"Brandy.. that is not a necessary comment." Brooke snipped, casting a glare at the Yarrow cross-dresser. Brandy seemed to not catch her glare in the dim light, but he shrugged.
Brooke sighed. "Just… watch to make sure that thing doesn't get back up. Kristoff, would you like to lead the way?"
"What was that thing saying, anyways? It sounded almost like it was trying... Ugh. I don't think it was a language at all. Not one I know, anyways."

There was just something satisfying about the knowledge that you had just crushed a hideous plant monster beneath a heavy doorframe before it could come crashing out and scare the shit out of everyone in your group. Kristoff stood atop his small victory, tail lashing eagerly from side to side as he did. Whatever was beneath the door was very, very still, and after a minute Kristoff stepped down to shove the door off the top of it.
The fact that it was another one didn't really relieve the feline too badly. If it had been a normal person, well, he would have fukkin' deserved just what he got. It would be nice to not deal with the response of the rest of his group, though, so the feline was pleased that it was a plant monster that was now oozing lightly onto the floor. He replied to Brooke with a curt nod and a grunt, but turned his attention on the room. The luggage. Where the fuck were these people even going?
He pawed through a suitcase, taking stock of the items contained within with the hopes they would provide some sort of clues (14). Once that was finished, he would exit the room, making his way down to the opposite end of the hallway towards the next staircase.
