Shelby was still cleaning, and his ears were flat against the side of his head. He didn't really want to hear what Heike was saying, because he just knew it would be something else bad. And he was trying to calm down. More bad news would hardly help out with that one. So he focused on gripping the sponge as he scrubbed at the rug, focused on getting this one thing clean. Focused on the only thing in his life he could currently have any control over whatsoever. The Leveret's whiskers twitched sadly. That was a good one. A Leveret having control over anything.
Seena frowned, tensing a bit as Heike confessed what he was about to do. A rather dangerous endeavor, for sure, but she found herself catching her breath. It was a bit exciting, too. She'd read about Cards before, a lot about them. She probably knew more about Cards than a lot of Cards themselves did, despite never having met one or placed one paw beyond the borders of Rabbit territory. But Rabbits and Cards worked together so very rarely...almost never, in fact. "Despite the risk inherent in such an arrangement," she replied in the same low voice, resting a paw gently on her Jack's arm. "I think it's still a wise course of action. Perhaps the only available to us at this moment."

"Thank you," The rabbit replied quietly. Seena supported it at the very least, which mean there was a good chance that the option was somewhat sane. It didn't feel like a sane idea, it felt like an utterly awful idea. Choices were limited, he just had to keep telling himself that.
He glanced over his shoulder with a brow raised to see if Shelby was still mopping up the mess. He was, and he was doing it in such a fashion it looked like he was wearing a hole into the carpet. It was a damn good thing this was his private study and he didn't have to worry about keeping up appearances.
The letter was brief and formal, it didn't take too much effort to write. Hopefully the damn thing did it's job and they managed to get some help for Shelby. They still had a few books to go through but he wasn't going to get his hopes up.
He grabbed and envelope, sealed up the letter and wrote instructions down for one of the leverets. When that was said and done he offered another book to Seena.

Shelby finally finished with cleaning the floor, and he wearily picked himself up and all but fell back onto the couch again. Funny how something like that could take so much out of him. Or maybe he'd just been trying a bit too hard to distract himself. He thought he may have taken away part of the rub along with the mess. Whoops. He groaned and covered his eyes with a paw.
Seena nodded to Heike, rubbing his non-dominant shoulder with her paw as he wrote and reading it over her shoulder. She'd offer wording advice where she could, but she mostly stood in silent support of him. When he handed her a book, she nodded. It was amazing, how calm she found herself able to be now that they were taking such steps. Her blue eyes turned in speculation as she settled in to the couch...and eh heard her son groan in the way he used to when presented with his daily chores.
She picked up one of the lightest books in the pile and threw it at him.

Her help was quietly appreciated. It prevented him from having a small panic attack over just about everything.
Heike watched as Shelby looked (and sounded) quite disappointed over getting back the the books. Well, he never had been one for that sort of thing. The Jack refrained from sighing as he went to reading his own book.
Just like the last ones it was futile. He found no information that could be useful to the situation, because nothing like this had ever happened before in written history. What had his son gotten into? Cards, they always seemed to make things more complicated than they had to be. Plenty of them had mutations though, and in the book concerning card magic there were a few remedies for simple problems. This was far from simple and the spells would be impossible for him to preform. The same thoughts ran inside of his head over and over again.
"I think we've hit enough dead ends for today."

Shelby let out a squeak of surprise as his mother threw a book at his head. He certainly hadn't been expecting -that-! It hit his forehead and fell to the floor with a loud thump. The Leveret sat there for a moment with a shocked look on his face, and then retrieved the book and flipped it open with a paw. At least this one was small, and easy to read. It even had pictures. Of course, it also went without saying that it was entirely unhelpful, just as the other books had been.
Seena fairly flew through several thick books, devouring the information in them at an astounding rate. She knew a lot more than she ever had before about Card mutations and magic. But yet...none of it was truly helpful. Not to their situation. The Doe shut the latest book (a treatise on the effects of magical fruit, including that growing out of someone's back) with a frustrated grunt. Her ears twitched as Heike spoke, and she nodded, mane flopping a little bit. "I think you're right, luv," she agreed, and glanced at her son. "I'm so sorry, Shelby." Her blue eyes were turned in sorrow. This wasn't at all what she'd hoped for.

If Heike hadn't been so absorbed with finding a solution he probably would have paused to chuckle at his son's surprise. Though he could remember being hit in the face with a book plenty of times, and how painful it was.
The rabbit had to refrain from sighing when Seena spoke. Despite knowing what was going to happen, he still felt bad about the entire situation. "I'm also very sorry, Shelby," he said as he watched Seena turn to her son looking heart broken. "But I am still going to tr to do my very best. It's just going to take a bit longer than I would have hoped. There's still hope though."
That was the most important thing, right? As long as there was hope there was some sort of goal to obtain. There had to be an answer to this problem. Every problem could be solved.

Shelby could hear the words his parents were saying, but there was a part of him that didn't want to believe it. He stared at both of them with wide green eyes, twisting one ear between his hands. "No, wait," he stuttered out, and moved toward the bookshelf, picking up several books frantically and paging through them, with more energy for the task than he'd shown all evening. "There has to be something!" There always had before, always! He'd never had a problem in his life that his mother didn't have an answer for, never. And his Father-Jack had always seemed like the most powerful being in the world, growing up.
Seena crossed the room to her son with little hesitation, and put a paw on his arm. "Shelby," she said softly, "Look at me." She gently turned him away from the book he was staring at and toward her. His eyes were wide and, as Seena continued to hold his gaze, got rather wet from tears. Seena nuzzled the top of his head, because her son needed it, Rabbit cultural norms be hanged.

Heike watched an silence as his son started to grab books off of the shelf and frantically search through them. It took a good deal of his will power not to get up and smack them out of the boy's hand. Yes, he could understand having a panic attack, but not all of the avenues were searched.
It was a long shot, considering how magically mutated his son was, but it was sure as hell worth a shot. And he wouldn't back down. Who knew when information like that would be important?
"Like I said, Shelby," he began when Seena nuzzled the top of the boy's head. Ha. He was still a little boy, this just made things all the worse. "There's still hope. I'm going to contact a few Cards. Since a Card is clearly responsible for this, they're bound to have a way to fix the situation. There is an option after that, but I have no idea if it would work, and I doubt you would enjoy it.."

Shelby made a stifled, choked noise as he was nuzzled, and leaned into the gesture slightly. The book he was frantically searching through fell to the floor as his hands suddenly went limp. He didn't want it to be like this, not at all! He'd never asked for this. Sure, he liked to play the occasional prank, but he was mostly a good kid! He hadn't even gone very far out of the Warren, but apparently fate liked to play cruel tricks on him. After a moment he turned to look at his Father-Jack, pulling away from Mother-Doe and hurriedly wiping his eyes with the back of a hand.
"All right," he said quietly. He didn't really want to see a Card. Not now nor ever again. But if it could fix this mess...it might be worth it.
Seena let her son pull away, watching him with knowing eyes. This was hard on him. But perhaps it would finally force him to grow up a little. There was the silver lining in all this tangled mess. She clapped her paws together. "Well! Nothing for it but to wait a bit for a reply. And there's still work to be done!" Something to get their minds off it. that was what they all needed right now.

"Your mother is right, there's plenty of work to be done. Several leverets are still missing and all the chores that need to be done because of this," Heike said thin lined smile. He wanted all of his leverets back, considering they had all disappeared in a night. Nadja could hardly do the work alone, and he didn't feel particularly inclined to go out and trade with with other rabbits.
The trees only knew what would happen if he left things unattended again. As much as he trusted his Does, he didn't trust the rest of the world, and he was still reeling from recent history. His chest was still bothering him from the lovely deep gashes that he received in the little scuffle. Cards really were a nightmare, and they seemed to be the only solution for Shelby.
"If you would be so kind as to help Nadja in the kitchen, I'm sure she would appreciate it, Shelby."
