Lawrence hesitated for a brief moment about letting the woman go alone, but, really, wot could he do? Sekhmet was infinitely more talented in her abilties than he, but...
"Please be careful, your Excellence!" he murmured under his breath as she began to make her way among the three cabins. He looked around, but they were evidently made by the same builder and likely at the same time. Each was identical in size, shape, and materials to the others, and none of them had any indication of any sort of opulence. Smoke rose gently from the one to their left, however, and seemed to be the only occupied one.

She made her way towards the left one, motioning him with her. The smoke smell came strongest from this one, and was almost nonexistent in the others. Obviously, there was someone in here, so it was a good place to start. If their stranger was missing, well, they could always ask directions? She nodded at Lawrence's caution, waiting for him to catch up before she got much closer. Any traps from here on in would probably be made in the stranger's presence, not out in the open. It was getting late, and she wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. Her grace and feminine wiles always tended to wear off more and more as the evening progressed. It was hard to smooth talk at 11 o'clock at night.
There didn't appear to be anyone outside the cabin, but she was still careful in her approach, less someone should jump out and catch her by surprise. Her sword had been sheathed out of politeness, no need to come in looking like a miniature infantry. If she was going to play the role of innocent offering, she was going to have to appear not only appeasing, but also delicate and like less of a threat than she truly was. Either way, she couldn't use force of any kind on him, so weapons were irrelevant at this point except for self defence. "Shall we?" She asked with a wry smile towards her companion.

Larry nodded uneasily, glad that the clearing wasn't booby-trapped. At least, not the parts they were going through. He hesitantly followed after the woman when she told him to come, wondering if he should offer her his spear, though it was his main weapon and, unlike the Jack, he wasn't covered in weapons.
He wondered also if he should be the one to go knock on the door, since he was in servant-type role. Also, there might be some sort of trap here at the door as well. He stepped up to the door with a great deal more confidence than he actually felt.
He raised his hand and knocked on the door as he'd been trained to-- something he only remembered to do sometimes. Just firm enough to be easily heard, but not so hard that he was banging on the wood.

She was pleased to see him taking the servant/messenger's role, not that she wasn't willing to do it herself, but she liked that he would willingly put his safety on the line for her. She'd been calling the shots for a while now, and although that's how she liked it, it was nice to be reminded that when it came down to it, he was the more... expendable one of the two. Not that she'd let anything happen if she could avoid it. The doe was that oddly... compassionate sort when it came to people in her charge. Not the most Kingly outlook, but who said all court royals had to be heartless and egocentric?
She nodded her appreciation and waited for whoever would come to the door, inconscpicuously scanning around the side closest to her to make sure there wasn't anyone trying to box them in once they entered. Though she could only assume this stranger wasn't the only one inside this cabin. Well, perhaps, if he was very confident in himself. That would make things easier as far as identifying him went. She still didn't know exactly what or who she was looking for. She assumed she'd know when she saw him.

"In," Elias barked hoarsely. Then he chuckled. They probably wouldn't just come in, if he'd done his job well. "All right, hold on, I'm coming." His meat was just about done anyway, so he took it off the fire and padded over to the door, grasping the knobs with his new hands. He still really liked those. He almost didn't mind the stupid porcupine quills anymore.
He pulled the door open, backing up. He backed his form up, all six limbs, and went back to his meal. There would be enough for them as well, if they liked their food heavy toward meat. "Well, I can see I didn't convince you to leave me alone. Would it work better if I'd made it seem like ghosts did it? That always scares the tourists, talk of Marsh Ghosts. Of course, Whip's the only one I know that ever saw a ghost." He brought the pot to the table and fetched two more plates and glasses, setting them down next to the chairs. "You'll forgive me if I don't take a chair," he said wryly. "Dig in, if you'll take my assurances that it's not poisoned. I'm certainly not waiting for you to start myself." He dished his food up, grabbed his utensils and started eating.
"What do you want?" he asked, though the fact that there were two higher ranked Hearts in his cabin was enough of a hint.

She was a little surprised to see that this canine was the stranger they'd been looking for all along, and she felt the first flittings of anger rise in her stomach. He was being... unusually calm and social for someone who'd set up traps to KILL them along the way. What was all this talk of ghosts about? And who was Whip? No matter, the canine appeared to be a little off with the whole mental stability thing. Perhaps that was why His Majesty had said to take care- the canine could have bouts of angry crazyness. Or something.
She was actually a little unsettled by his casual conversation despite the situation. She didn't glance at Lawrence, instead splaying her hands comfortably on the wall behind her as she considered the canine. "I'm sure you can guess, however, I might as well be direct. His Majesty Shinrai has sent for you, he requests your presence at the palace. For what reason, I cannot say." She admitted truthfully. She knew unnervingly little about all of this. The stew was inviting, and she was hungry as she could ever remember being, but she simply didn't trust food from random strangers. For all she knew, he could have built up resistance to some kind of poison and put it in the soup hoping they would partake as well. It would be foolish, but the canine still said 'crazy' in her books.
"You certainly are rather polite and hospitable for someone setting out traps to kill innocent messengers." She smirked at this, now that that part of her journey was behind her, it was worth looking back on with a chuckle. She hadn't had such a good workout in a while. Mmmm it had felt... invigorating. She couldn't talk for the poor raccoon, though. And it certainly had been taken with complete seriousness at the time, but the momentary pause gave her time to try and make light of her near death experiences, because if she didn't, well, she'd probably end up locking herself in a cabin somewhere in the middle of the woods, bat-shit crazy...
Ahem.

Elias snerked violently when she mentioned his attempts to "kill them." He wiped his mouth before replying. "Honey, if I'd been trying to kill you, don't you think I'd have had the opportunity? You look dirty, I'm guessing you found my hole, and Tubby there looks like he found a snare. Now, he's a big boy, did any of my blades sink in deep? Did they, Tubby? That's weird, it's almost like I planned it that way. Did that four foot deep hole cause you any harm? Did it occur to you that it's a waste of time to make traps like that if I'm trying to kill you?" He took another bite, talking around the meat. "Truth is I could have killed you with a trap, and I could have killed you while I was following you," he said, pointing to his bow and quiver in the corner, and his kukri strapped to his side. "What kind of sword do you have there, anyway?"
Elias shook his head. "Never mind. I'm Elias, by the way. And no, I don't suppose he told you. He didn't tell anyone. And *I'll* tell you what I told the others. If his Majesty the Ungrateful wants to talk to me, he can do so in person. He knows better than to send someone I don't trust. You can tell him that."

She listened with a look of blank disinterest, but eventually broke out into a smile. "You're good, I'll give you that. I had expected that you wouldn't take any chances by actually killing us. The scare tactics were a nice touch, though." She was normally easily taunted by such ravings as the canine's but... to be honest? She'd been thinking the same thing the entire time. Having decided early on that his intent wasn't to kill hadn't made her take things any less seriously, however. She touched the sword at her back and ignored the continuation of the conversation for the moment. "It's a specialized piece. A basic katana shape and body with a widened scimitar blade style. I liked both too much to pick." She chuckled at this and lowered her hand. She noted Lawence's look of shock at the centaur, and actually remembered where she'd seen something similar, once before. It was common in Corvistowne apparently.
"Unfortunately as I seek to get into 'His Majesty the Ungrateful's' good graces, I can't go back without you and fail my mission. I think his attempt at getting you to talk in person requires your presence at the palace. I don't suppose there's a way I could go about gaining your trust as well, hmmm?" She walked forward and took a seat at the table, not indulging in the food just yet, but trying to get comfortable in the canine's presence. She sympathized with what she gathered so far, obviously there was a big issue that hadn't been resolved, and the Queen seemed to be the one with apologizing to do. She understood too well however, how hard it was to just get up from such an important post, and take a week off to get bitched out by an upset aquaintance. Hmmmm, for such a vague situation it sounded fairly difficult as it was. She couldn't help but wonder what was between them, however.

Larry was... baffled. Shocked. Confused. First of all, they were stuck at a strange door after being attacked a bunch of times. Secondly, the door was answered by a 'taur. A 'TAUR!!!!! Perhaps Sekhmet wasn't surprised, but Lawrence was. No one had mentioned the canine's name, no one had mentioned that he was a 'TAUR! That was so beyond surprising, the raccoon didn't even have -words-. It was awkward and strange and Larry had never, ever seen it before.
The Selkie Lakes raccoon's stomach grumbled uneasily because he was hungry too. He tried to not look at the food and just pay attention to the dialogue, but, man... It was distracting.
His eyes jerked to the strange man at the jibes, and he uncomfortably rubbed one hand along a cut-covered arm. He had noticed the traps originally were terribly non-lethal... right up until that little fun bit right at the clearing...
