Peaches was indeed a cat, and responded to the petting just like a cat would. She involuntarily wiggled with happy a bit before settling into a proper purr. Not only was he good at complimenting her, he was good at petting her like a proper person.
"Mmmm, you're very talented with your hands, aren't you? Skilled at mechanics, skilled at fixing tea, and skilled at things a lesser man couldn't dream up. I think petting is one of my favorite of your hand skills though. It's the cat in me I suppose." She happily continued to purr as she licked under his chin. Warm, soft, happy. She hadn't been this comfortable in such a long time, it was amazing. Peaches grinned and closed her eyes as she rested her head besides his ear once again.
She could stay like this all day. She would be more than happy to.

Why was she so very cute?
He grinned slightly as she wiggled on top of him, bringing a smile to his lips. Even better yet, her pleasure was radiating oh so clearly from her. In her words, in her sweet purring. His hands dipped down further.
"Right now, I think petting you is the favorite thing my hands can do." He tilted his head back as she licked him. "I love my tea and mechanics, but neither can purr quite like you can."
And he so very much loved her purring!
"I wonder, how loud can I really make you purr?"
He winked playfully, cheerfully dragging the blankets up and around them. If he had a tail he would've been wagging, and were he a feline, most likely purring...instead he simply grinned as his fingers played over her soft skin. With his eyes twinkling with bemusement he tested various along Peaches's body, attempting to see what he could do with these 'oh-so talented' hands.

Hehe. What a clever man she had picked up! If she could sing on key she would have, but she couldn't so she stuck to purring. And purring she did. He did have very talented hands after all.
She was very much flopped on his mid section after everything was over. She didn't particular care if he was actually comfortable, she was. And she was purring loud enough that he could hear her loud and clear.
"Genius is the word, I think." She said as she closed her eyes and wiggled to get more comfortable. Warm. He was so very warm. "Because you're just that talented you can make me purr in ways I didn't think possible. Congratulations."
Oh satisfaction did indeed bring a cat back. She could finally agree with that stupid little statement. The feline curled up on top of Hatter slightly as she glanced around the room. Her eyes fell on the pocket watch on the table. She had half a mind to ask him about it, but she didn't want to pry into something like that. It could be some Heirloom for all she knew, but she could talk about watches.
"So you like watches? Do you have a collection like your tea and hats?"

Hatter was quite pleased with himself for getting her to purr like that. She was sprawled over his midsection and he was quite comfortable, so long as she kept up that purring.
Hatter couldn't help but pause slightly as his watch was brought into attention, his head tilting slightly to the side as he studied it from its place on the side table. Watches were interesting, but he didn't like them much generally...which was strange considering he never went anywhere without that one. He frowned a little but only for the briefest of moments, so quickly it flickered that she probably wouldn't even notice it.
"Yes and no." He admitted lightly. "I don't have a collection but I like watches, or that watch." It had been a gift at one point and then She had gotten a hold of it. That had been an interesting day, but at least she had given it back to him. "It was a gift," he decided finally.
It almost felt awkward to leave the comment unfinished. He didn't mention Her, he would eventually but now simply wasn't a good time. Instead he artfully redirected the conversation.
"Do you have any collections? Watches or Hats or Tea?"

The watch must have been very important then. Peaches shifted a bit, maybe she shouldn't have brought it up? It was a bit late to have an bit of regret. Whatever.
She blinked a few times when he asked that question. Well. Peaches did have a collection. It usually weirded people out a tad. However, he was Hatter. He had different tastes than most people.
"You're going to laugh a bit, I'm sure," Peaches said as she briefly stopped purring to speak clearly. She'd go back to purring once she got his proper response. Maybe. It depended on his reaction really. "I happen to make and collect hand puppets. I have one of every current court member and my close friends. Well. I haven't made a puppet of you yet, so I don't have a puppet of everyone."
But she would. It was the one thing that Peaches generally didn't forget to do.

Hatter was not like most. He didn't find puppets silly and he didn't laugh. How could a man whose apartment was filled to the brim with tea and hats laugh at a woman who made hand puppets?
However, what might be less expected was that instead of laughing, his eyes lit up with starry-eyed interest and he lifted up ever so slightly so that he could rest his weight on his elbows. He liked Puppets, and Dolls...though not the sort of Dolls that most people liked. He liked Dolls like the woman in Rocky's house.
"O! I won't laugh!" He squirmed beneath her, grinning happily. "I like puppets! When you take me into the Courts with you will you show them to me?"
Hatter was most definitely an odd individual, but that had already been long established between them. Not that it really seemed to be bothering either of them. Birds of a feather flocked together, or something like that.

That was refreshing. The weird looks she got for having hand puppets were so very special. Peaches purred happily for a few moments as he shifted his weight. She nearly rolled off of him just because she wasn't paying attention. With a surprised mew she shifted back to where she was comfortable.
"Of course I'll show you," She grinned up at him. "And I should have one of you by the time that happens... unless you want to come back to the palace right away. That would be a little different. I could probably make one while you're there though."
She paused at the thought. It might be a little hard to get him in the palace on such short notice. Most people would just smile and nod, but not everyone knew her yet. That was a minor detail and all, but she didn't want to upset anyone and get thrown out or something for being disruptive.
Well there were a few people she would love to piss off but that wasn't here or there.

When she was comfortable again, Hatter cheerfully set to petting Peaches. So very lovely and she made hand puppets!
"Wonderful!" He chimed, grinning back at her. "Will you need to get me clearance first? If so, I will wait until you have that -and a finished me!puppet- before coming to see to your collection. If not, however, I would love to see you at work."
He laughed warmly, not in jest at her but in general pleasure. He was enjoying her company quite a bit. Wonderfully entertaining, full of secrets, and a puppet maker as well! They were so alike in so many ways...it was almost startling. Delightfully so. Hatter's fingers played smoothly through her hair, stroking her and thoughtfully teasing the long purple strands.
"Actually, while I don't make hand puppets I do make 'dolls'. That's what they've been called at least: living mechanical dolls. That's what Doorie is, a clockwork mome rath. ...Such a pity I left 'im at home."

Clearance? She probably did need clearance but she hadn't been paying much attention to the guest policy when someone was ranting at her about it. Peaches was amazingly good at pretending to listen. She did it half the time all her life anyway.
"You can come, I suppose. I don't think they'd turn you away--and if they won't let you stay the night I know a perfect inn in the Highlands that'll let you have a room. You're pretty enough that the keep wouldn't ask questions." She grinned at the thought of seeing the keeper again. As much as he looked like a stuffed shirt, he wasn't.
But that wasn't here or there. Hatter was talking about dolls. "Mechanical dolls... that must be amazingly difficult to make. Or do you use magic like most craftsmen tend to do?" She purred a bit after asking. He was still quite warm.
