Tea was definitely a good distraction, but not good enough to completely distract him from Lore's voice. He liked it and that was very much obvious from his curious smile, as if he were tempted to ask her to sing more. Despite his temptation, he stayed quiet, aware that she might affectionately hit him with something if he didn't.
So he poured cups for both of them, made certain that they were to her usual liking, and slid one into her reach.
"I don't know what anyone else says, but I like it too." He smiled warmly. "...I sound like a cat being stepped on when I sing, for all that I like to do it quite a bit." The Hatter made an adorable face and sipped his tea for a moment. It was probably best the change the subject. "Have you remembered that thing you had forgotten?"
Kaden, while quiet, had begun to squirm. He already wanted to get lose and explore. So much for sleeping.

Loreta snorted as she juggled a teacup and the baby. Why did he insist on moving so much. "You stop that," she muttered as she set Kaden in her lap. He couldn't go anywhere the way he was wrapped in the blankets, thank goodness, but he was still being quite a terror.
"You probably don't sound as bad as my friend Peaches," Loreta sipped her tea. Oh that was wonderfully bitter. She never thought she would be thankful for so much caffeine packed into one cup of tea. Maybe she would be able to get through the night if she managed to get a few cups of this in her. Maybe not. Kaden was sadistic that way. "And honestly, you're the only one I've sung in front of besides my siblings and Peaches," she shrugged, still trying to make sure Kaden stayed in her lap.
In reality, Loreta was just horribly shy of what people would think of her singing. She would never say that out loud, of course.

Kaden's face knitted in an expression of baby displeasure, making a noise of protest as he was set down onto his mother's knee. He didn't want to be set there or be trapped in his bundle of blankets. He wanted to explore.
Hatter watched Kaden squirm and Loreta juggle her cup like a cat watching an ant on the wall, rigidly at attention and wearing an expression of blind interest. It was cute, but Loreta was probably seething a little on the inside. Should he take the little thing so that she wouldn't have to juggle so much? He took another sip and then held out his hands.
"I'll hold 'im for you." He chimed cheerfully before Peaches was mentioned and he flourished a large, goofy grin.
"I meant to tell you I ran into Peaches." Among other things. "We talked about singing, she spared me from hearing hers...and I from mine." His grin widened happily, beaming cheerfully. "I like your singing, you shouldn't be so shy about it. You sing better than I can, but I'd sing for you...though I don't think you'd like that very much."

"Thank you," she said as she handed Hatter the wide eyed and entirely too awake bundle. The heron gladly took a sip of the tea thankfully as she looked at Hatter. So he had met Peaches? Well that was a surprise. It was a small world.
"Well, I would like to hear you sing sometime. Even if you think it's awful, I'm sure it can't be worse than Peaches. Trust me on this one." Lore said as she finished off her tea, and poured herself another cup. She was going to drink as much as she could while Kaden wasn't wiggling about in her lap or arms.
"However, doing it now might be a bad idea. Since Kaden isn't exactly in the best of moods or behavior," She scratched under the boy's chin. Horrible little nightmare he was sometimes, he was cute when he wasn't giving her trouble.

Hatter grinned happily and accepted the squirming little bundle into his arms. Adorable little thing he was, for all that he was obviously gunning to be a little bundle of terror. So young and already he was squirming and straining to get out of Hatter's arms.
Oh well, with Hatter's ADD it really should have been expected.
"I wouldn't mind singing for you, if you'd like... and o!, I do." He wrinkled his nose slightly at the thought of hearing her sing, although he was still undeniably curious. "I don't think Peaches would lie to me about that."
Kaden trilled happily as Loreta scratched beneath his chin, the little mutt-bird perking up happily. Hatter smiled warmly but nodded in agreement.
"You're probably right about that. Another time then... Or, well... It's rather likely that you'll eventually happen upon me singing sometime, I do it all the time... Especially when I'm alone, or thinking." He offered her a lopsided grin a laughed softly.
Kaden, meanwhile, tilted his head to stare up at Hatter, blinking his big blue eyes at Hatter. Hatter grinned, affectionately ruffling his feathers before quickly dodging the peck aimed at his hand.
"He's going to be a little terror, isn't he?"

"It should be expected, considering he's related to the pair of us," Loreta snorted. The heron was throughly amused by the little boy trying to peck his father's hand. His childhood was going to be filled with quite a few mishaps, wasn't it? Loreta just hoped that he would listen to threats of bodily harm.
She set the teacup on the table. Should she say what she was thinking? Well of course she should. Why bother to hesitate. "So, I was thinking. A bed and breakfast might be a good idea. Then Kaden wouldn't have to bounce around from where I live and where you live when he gets older. And... Corvistowne has public schooling. We wouldn't have to pay for a tutor then."
In theory. Loreta had no idea how much of a handful the squirming baby was plotting to be. And she wouldn't know until it was too late.
"It's just a matter of figuring things out with my current job and money, of course."

Hatter nodded to this, it was very reasonable logic. Hatter plus Loreta could surely make nothing less than Little Nightmare. That was actually frightening when he thought about it.
Maybe he'd grow out of it as he got older?
Yeah, just like Hatter had calmed down.
When Loreta mentioned the bed and breakfast, Hatter perked up and grinned widely. O! She had thought about it more then! He was exceptionally pleased to know that. "I definitely agree. Your cooking is really great." In fact, he would've been quite happy if he could convince her to stay and make dinner.... "Oh yeah... That's true. Public schooling would work out great then. As for money and all that, I'm sure we can figure it out. I'll help however I can too, of course."
Hatter shifted Kaden, working him up into one arm so that he could manuever and get his tea. It was an interesting juggling moment, but he managed it rather smoothly considering. Hatter just had a knack for drinking tea. That or Kaden was behaving for the moment. Or plotting, it was hard to tell with the little blue-eyed bundle of mischief.

Loreta watched Hatter's balancing act curiously. Wow, when he wanted tea he could do amazing things it seemed. She shook her head briefly before finishing off her second cup and moving to the next. Oh yes, she was going to manage to get through the night if Kaden decided to stay awake for hours on end. She had to stay at an inn anyway.
"Speaking of food, do you have any in the house right now?" She asked idly. She had to wonder how much Hatter actually ate like a normal person, and if he simply always ate out. That was a horribly depressing thought. Then it suddenly hit her that she was sounding very much like her mother. Well, that was a horribly disturbing thought, wasn't it?
Fuck that.
"Oh, I've been wondering. How have your mechanics been treating you? Since that visit in the.... Wood?" Man. She didn't want to remember that.

Hatter unjuggled Kaden and his cup, setting the boy back on his knee and causing him to pout greatly once Hatter's grip settled around him again. Escape was foiled once again, apparently.
Hatter thought for a moment and then nodded slightly. He'd been doing a bit better with the food thing, if only in the hopes that Loreta would come make him another meal. Ahh, the things that motivated him. "Oh, yeah... I do actually!" He looked quite proud of himself as he said this. "Not much, I need to go shopping again, but there's more than usual."
He coughed a little and scrounged up the most adorably hopeful look he could manage. "Will you be staying here for dinner?"
When she mentioned mechanics, Hatter's eyes lit up like they always did and food was forgotten in a flash of excitement. He'd been trying to perfect animating something larger than a Mome. It had proved quite complicated, but he'd been making breakthroughs in leaps and bounds.
"O! It's been absolutely great! I've been working on perfecting an animal model first, I think that'd be simplest..." He wrinkled his nose slightly, proving that animating it hadn't worked as he'd hoped. "The structuring is working out rather well though, I'm pleased with that." He beamed widely.
