Oh. He wanted her to cook dinner. Well if he wanted it so badly he could have just said something in the first place. She rolled her eyes and propped her head on one of her hands. "I'll cook you dinner if you want. All you need to do is ask."
Loreta really did love to cook. Though she would never quite admit that in mixed company. She didn't want to destroy the image she had taken years to build up. She was and would always be an utter bitch about some things. Just... the being cynical when Hatter was around was just difficult.
She tilted her head a bit. At his response. "Animal like in pet dog, or animal like... Card sized? Since those are two completely different things, and honestly I haven't had the pleasure of following your research step by step. You need to fill me in on things."

Hatter beamed cheerfully, wiggling with pleasure at the thought of Loreta's cooking. That was definitely a good reason to buy groceries. Such a good reason. "Oh, well...Round-a-bout is fun to." He stretched slightly glancing down at Kaden again, the boy appeared utterly bored with not being allowed havoc or freedom and was beginning to yawn once more. Thank the suits.
Mechanics, however, overpowered his fascination for Kaden and he lifted his gaze quickly to Loreta. His eyes were like an open book, quietly defocussing as he rushed through a mental catalog of notes in order to brief Loreta on his studies.
He loved that she asked as much as he loved to talk about it. "Card sized, preferably...but, you know... You've probably got something there. Animating a non-sentient animal would probably be a great deal easier." He scratched the back of his neck slightly in thought, musing on this for a moment. "I'll have to try it after we eat." The focus didn't immediately come back to his gaze and he had to shake himself a little to get out of that train of thought before he rushed off to work on it then and there.
That wouldn't be any good, honestly, if he wound up wandering off with Kaden in his arms.
"As of now, I've got momes and toves down flawlessly. I can even make them look less and less mechanical and more like real creatures... I've made a couple Banders as well, Mango didn't take very well to them though. Pet animals..." Oh no, not that train of thought again! "I'll have to take you to my lab sometime, so you can see all my tinkerings."

Loreta grinned, "You'll have to show me sometime then. I would like to see your work sometime. I've always been rather curious about how people kept their workspaces organized and all of that jazz." She held her hands out for Kaden, "I'll sing him a lullaby and that should put him to sleep."
She gave up trying to hide all that stupid motherly stuff. If Kaden was asleep then she could cook. Simple as that. Plus she could talk to Hatter and not worry about Kaden breaking lose of his blankets and destroying what was in reach.
Babies were a lot cuter when they weren't yours. The Heron waited until he was very much in her arms before singing her previous lullaby, all the way through. In theory this would work to put the boy to sleep, but theory was merely that. He had proven her wrong before, so many times.

Hatter's grin twisted into his usual lop-sided expression of sheepishness and he shrugged his shoulders. "Organized is not a way to describe anything of mine. At least, that's what the people that have seen my lab tell me."
He chuckled lowly before handing Kaden over, silently glad that she was taking over again. The boy had been getting fussier and fussier and Hatter had just been waiting dumbly for him to bawl or peck or something. Eee, children. How could something so tiny be so...frightening?
Kaden submitted happily to his mother's arms, making happy little crooning noises as he listened to the lullaby. Absently he yawned, blinked a few times in frustration, and slowly but surely fell into sleep.
Hatter merely smiled, admiring the way her lullaby drove him straight to sleep. She really did know how to handle him, didn't she? "It must be a hellish getting a club to sleep..." He tilted his head thoughtfully and coughed with amusement. "I had a friend a while back that had a kid like that... They enchanted their lullaby, so the kid couldn't resist."

(( OOC: X3 Awesome item, Ez is happy. ))
Loreta would have raised an eyebrow if she wasn't preoccupied with making sure Kaden was comfortable. No organization skills and talking about charming lullabies. That would be rather silly since Loreta had no intentions to ever have another child again. Ever. Hopefully her body would agree with her.
She handed the bundle to Hatter. "I'm going to get kitchen supplies and such. If you have a couch you can put him down on it as long as you make sure he doesn't roll off or anything. He should... sleep for a little while now. Enough time for me to actually manage a proper meal. I'll find everything I need since your kitchen is pretty small."
With that problem solved she made her way to the kitchen. All she had to do was check to see what he had in the icebox and what he had in the pantries. She just hoped it would be enough to have a proper meal.

Enchanted lullabies or not, Loreta's singing always did the trick for him. One final yawn of protest and he was out like a light this time.
Hatter marveled quietly at this and then accepted the bundle from Loreta, nodding as she spoke. She had this organized thing down pat and was doing a far better job at this parenting game than Hatter was and he was wise enough just to nod his head and obediently take her directions. It was the least he could do if she were making dinner, after all.
Settling down on the couch, he cradled the little one in his arms and stroked his crest of bright feathers while silently hoping Kaden wouldn't wake during it. He was so sweet and peaceful and quiet while sleeping that Hatter would not have dreamed of waking him again if he could so avoid it. The teapot incident had made it quite clear to him just how unpleasant that experience could be.
He had a set of lungs on him that could break eardrums.

Loreta sighed. Hopefully she would be able to cook the entire meal before Kaden woke up. She searched through the pantries to find all the proper pots and pans.
Then she went to the ice box to produce what little food he had. Oh fun, this was going to be an interesting challenge. She looked through the cabinet again to find the proper spices. Well, she had enough for Five-Spice Chicken but that wouldn't work without the limes. She looked down at the various spices. Loreta would have bit her lip if she had one. Buffalo Chicken...? Well. She had nothing better to do.
It was a frustrating process getting everything to the proper temperature and making the spices work. Ultimately she did manage to get a decent final product. She could have done better if she had the proper supplies... but she wasn't about to complain. Next time she would do the shopping.
The heron dished everything out and brought the plates into the sitting room where Hatter had taken Kaden. "I figure we could eat in here since we don't want Kaden waking up to roll off the couch."

The smell of the cooking chicken was wonderful, and quite rare, in Hatter's house and the avian waited eagerly for his friend to arrive in the room with their meals. He was so lucky to know someone that could cook! When Loreta returned Hatter nodded eagerly to her comment and accepted his place, content to eat just about anywhere in the house. "Fine by me...and, really, the less we move Kaden the less likely it'll be that he wakes up."
On the rare occasions that he did manage to create something edible he never really seemed to sit down at the dining table. More often than not he'd wander around as he ate, or go down to Marchie's level and eat with him. Neither of them really liked to be alone and if Hatter got himself something decent to eat, he preferred to share it with his friend than keep it to himself.
Kaden, luckily for both of them, had managed to sleep through the making process of dinner and was now snoozing quite loudly while they enjoyed their dinner. At least it didn't look as if he'd be waking anytime soon.
Hatter grinned widely between bites, trying hard not to wiggle in his pleasure. "It's delicious, Lore~"

"I somehow think you would be happy with whatever I cooked," Loreta said quietly as she took a bite of her chicken. It wasn't the best she had ever done, but it was good enough. That and Kaden was going to be asleep for a while, so she would have time to relax and actually enjoy a meal.
It was a nice change of pace. This being nice and a mother thing took a lot out of her. Loreta was surprised that she could do any of it without being snarky. Oh whatever. She just needed to stop thinking at eat while she still had the chance.
Loreta finished her plate shortly after Hatter, and offered to finish doing the dishes. She figured he would simply forget about them, and she had to clean up the rest of the kitchen as well. "Next time I visit, I'll bring back groceries," she said with an actual smile before leaving to do the dishes.
Well, stranger things had happened.
