"Please? Pretty please?" He looked up at him with big, mock-sad purple eyes, doing his best imitation of Zether when the pup had been denied something he really, really wanted. His hand-paws were clasped pleadingly in front of him, tucked under his chin for maximum cuteness, because that seemed to be something that Mo really liked about him. He'd only just started trying to do deliberate cute at him, though. It wasn't something that generally worked around Vessatha, though Quinn could occasionally be swayed by it.
And then Mo picked up the gift and came the rest of the way into the room, and Aph closed it behind him, his ears perked back up again. Aph wiggled the rest of the way to the present on his belly, hind legs pushing him along the smooth floor easily. He prefered the smooth floor to a carpeted one, if only because he could slide if he wanted to.
He took it carefully, claws slicing away the places where the paper was held together after he removed the ribbon, tying it happily around one paw. The paper was removed in one piece and folded up to be used for decorating later.

Oh suits, that look, he hated it for what it did to him ... but he loved it all the same. On his way inside he made sure to brush his body against the otter's and run his tail under the Spade's chin, he would have preferred to place a kiss on his cheek but he had the gift in his mouth already.
He watched eagerly when the Torquehelm started in on the gift, he knew what was in the box but he wasn't entirely certain if aphasia would really love it or not. He was sure he'd like it simply for that fact that it was from him, but ... he actually nervous about this. He started to twiddle his white claws as his otter took his time opening it, and prolonging his suspense as well. His tail tip began to twitch back and forth in impatience... he wasn't the type to carefully unwrap things, no... when he got gifts he tore into them. This was torture...
When Aph finally got the box open he'd notice the inside was stuffed with lilac tissue paper and, between two layers of it, would rest the gift that he'd put so much thought into. It was a collar, about the same shade of purple as the ribbon that he wore was, and it was studded with actual silver in the pyramid fashion, turned sideways to be a diamond to match the little tag that was attached to match. He meant it as a gift and a little forget-me-not when he wasn't around.
Oh how he hoped the otter liked it ....

He shifted through the purple paper - and that would be saved to decorate with later too - and then...
"Oh..." His voice was quiet as he looked at the collar in his paws, carefully turning it this was and that to see the light sparkle off of the silver diamond shapes and shine off of the purple leather. He caressed it gently, his attention focused entirely on it for a few long seconds before he slowly looked up at Mo, eyes shining wetly.
"...for me? Really, for me?" His voice was quiet, but pleased. Definitely pleased. He sniffled once, then blinked back the happy tears and scooted to Mo's side, curling up against him, the collar held delicately to his chest. "It's beautiful." And that was about the best he could get past the lump in his throat.
It was weird. Most Cards would either have been nonchalant or amused about receiving a collar like this as a gift (or so he thought), or even grossed out. He was extraordinarily touched by it, and the fact that he'd have a reminder of Mo everywhere he went, all the time. It was perfect.

He wasn't sure why this was so nerve wracking but he ended up holding his breath as his otter shifted through the paper ... almost there. That first word wasn't encouraging, nor was it discouraging really, and it made him grow still and attentive as he waited for a more readable response.
He released his held breath when he heard the little pleased note in the spade's voice, so he did like it! Mo wasn't exactly the best gift giver, in fact he'd given Mia a rat that he'd killed in the kitchen one time, but this one seemed to actually go over well. Maybe he should put months of thought into gifts from now on, yeah?
He let out a soft little trill when Aph snuggled up to him and curled his long tail around him and began to groom his fur cheerfully before lifting his head and nipping at an ear.
Would you ... like me to ... help you put it on?
He really, really wanted to see if it looked as good on him as it had when he'd envisioned it ....

He loved the noises that Mo made, so different from anyone else he knew. The trills and everything, and the way his tail felt around him, and how nice he felt resting against and around him, and just everything. He didn't know how Mia could have given this up, but he was rather glad that his brother did, because that meant that he got Mo all to himself. He didn't have to share with anyone. And quite frankly, he considered Mo a much better catch than anyone he'd seen his brother with.
The fur grooming got happy chirps from him, and he blinked at the nip to his ear before turning his head and looking full at Mo, then down at the collar, then back up at Mo. Blushing, he nodded.
"Yeah. I want... I want to see. And feel it." He held it out to Mo and then turned around so that he could put it on properly.

Those happy little chirps were adorable and he emitted another trill, this one rumbling .... the weasel rendition of a purr really. He tightened the grip his tail had around the smooth furred body next to him for a moment before shifting his position and flashing the otter a toothy grin. He took the collar from him, ears twitching at the little sounds the tag made when he moved the accessory.
He curled his tail up into it's happy shape and sat up on his haunches, arching his back to lean forward and slip the silver studded piece of leather around Aph's neck and adjusted it, trying to gauge what was a comfortable tightness and what wasn't without it being on his neck and was he ever thankful for the dexterous paws he'd inherited.
When he was satisfied with it he backed off a bit and cocked his head ot the side in a curious manner, that grin still on his face.
Ok ... turn around and let me see!

He tried very, very hard to hold still as Mo leaned over him, warm fur right near his, and then the collar was sliding around his neck. He decided, as Mo started to fasten it, that he rather liked the way it felt, hugging against his fur. It held him and reminded him with every breath that it was there, but in a good way. He helped Mo find just the right fit for him, asking him to tighten it a few notches, no, that was a bit much, back off one, maybe one more, there.
When Mo moved away, he gave himself a full-body shake to settle his fur and the collar. Unlike with other sorts of Cards, it didn't slide under any of his fur. Then again, he was an otter like Mama Quinn, and she wore a collar too, so he supposed he should have expected that. (A tiny part of him was grateful that the only thing that jingled on his collar was the pretty diamond-shaped tag.)
Turning, he posed this way and that to show off his new accesory. "What do you think? How does it look?"

His tail twitched a bit as he bit back the urge to do something bad, this was Aph's birthday and he was still supposed to be on his best behavior with the otter after all, but it was just so damned difficult. Especially now since he was all but draped over his Torquehelm ad he adjusted the collar with the help of the otter. He closed his eyes for a moment as he slipped the leather around the Spade's neck, only opening them again when it came to adjusting and clasping it.
He moved away a bit, tail twitching all the more as he waited somewhat patiently to see the otter, his ears perking a little more when he shook and the tag jingled softly, that was an awfully pretty little noise. The otter's posing pulled made him giggle and he lifted a clawed paw to cover his maw, a grin lingering on his muzzle.
I must say Aph ... you look oh so handsome! Not that you aren't without the collar ....
The grin broadened a bit, showing his fangs ever so slightly.

He blushed and ducked his head at the compliment, embarrassed and shy but so very, very pleased. Mo said he looked handsome. Mo said he looked handsome, even without the collar he'd given him. Aph, on the other hand, was rather sure that he had to look a lot better with the collar, because it probably made him look a lot more mature. But still. Even though Mo had complimented him before, it still made him feel like he didn't deserve it each time.
"Thank you..." Aph said, voice quiet but pleased. Absently he played with the tag on his new collar, already pleased with how the metal felt in his claws as he fiddled with it. Yeah, he liked this a lot more than Mama Quinn's collar. If nothing else, it matched him a lot more than her flamboyant, jingly accessory (and he was pretty sure it was an accessory now, even though he was really, really glad she'd never taken it off, because that would just be terrible.

He knew the otter always had doubts about his compliments, and that's precisely why he gave him so many. They were genuine and he wanted the Torquehelm to start believing him and start really taking them to heart. Perhaps it was because of his otter's region ... but he was hard pressed to believe that someone had to be a certain way just because they were born certain colors as he wasn't exactly a textbook Lowlander himself. But this was Aph's day and he was determined to make this a birthday to remember.
He got up onto his paws and moved closer to the black and purple otter once more and nuzzled his head up under the boy's chin and offered him a rumbling trill. He had an idea though, and moved away from him a bit, letting his face fall and his ears droop as he twiddled his claws ... he was determined to make the otter super happy one way or another.
To top it off, and go perfectly with his act, he let his own voice grow quiet.
I'm just ... so glad you like it. I ... wasn't entirely certain you would ...
