He was getting used to the compliments, though he never quite knew where Mo was coming from when he said them. But he'd gotten used to just keeping his mouth closed and nodding calmly, because otherwise Mo would go ahead and do something to try and prove that he was serious about it, which usually lead to squeaking and blushes stuttering on his part. ...then again, most of what Mo did resulted in squeaking and blushes and stuttering on his part. He thought it to be rather unfair.
He was glad, however, that he hadn't put on any ornaments after all. Mo might think that he was desperate, or trying too hard, or something like that. After all, the hybrid hadn't made too much of a fuss about it all, though Aph knew that going as his usual slightly-disheveled self would have been a major faux pas.
"O-of course!" Back to the conversation, Aphasia. There's a whole evening ahead of the two of you. "Thank you. Uhm. What are we taking?" Even as he spoke he stepped out of his suite, closing and locking the door behind him before he turned back to Morpheus with bright, curious eyes.

There really wasn't much he could do to spiff himself up for the evening. He wasn't very fond of jewelry or anything like that on himself and he usually kept his fur and hair looking rather nice, well .... as nice as the blasted coarseness of his fur would allow. At least his fur wasn't like his mother's and had some softness to it .... it just didn't like to lay flat in some places is all.
And those little squeaks and blushes he was able to pull from the boy? They just made him all the more endearing .... hopefully he'd get at least one tonight.
I've arranged a little carriage for us ... nothing to fancy really ...
Was he being modest? Yes, a little bit anyhow. A ride in a carriage sure beat walking for hours anyhow .... and the hall they were going to was deep in the heart of the Capitol, but the restaurant was nearby.
He he moved to take up the lead, brushing himself lightly against the Torquehelm in the process. When they got out and to their ride it wasn't as bad as he'd imagined it would look ... having been recommended by his mother, and his ears flipped forward with interest. It wasn't drawn by Aces, but at least the pair of horses they did use matched .... that aspect pleased him.
He trotted over to it's door in the funny way creatures with long bodies and short legs did and sat up, stretching a bit so that he could open the door himself .... and grin broadly at the otter.
After you.

"Even if it isn't much, that's...that's really nice of you, Mo." The single syllable still felt incredibly special in his mouth, because he remembered when he hadn't thought he'd be allowed to use the hybrid's name, much less the diminuative version of it. And now...well, now he was going on a real, actual date with him. What a thought. His attitude was almost coy, if accompanied by the usual embarrassment.
"Thank you," he said, managing to squeak it out after the brush. He might be getting used to it, but it was still enough to make him feel horrifically shy. His stride wasn't much better than Mo's, and was actually a little more uneven, considering his restricted motions due to his wire. He didn't mind; was used to it, really.
Sashaying out the door, he made sure to wait up for Mo so that they could travel side-by-side. He wasn't sure where the carriage would meet them, so he followed his friend (date?) to their destination.

He giggled lightly as he caught up to the otter once more and continued down the path and through the palace gates to the waiting carriage ... it was a little worn but otherwise clean ... and the driver was nice enough to be waiting by the side with the door open, some sort of older canine biped. He paused and held up a paw, gesturing for the otter to hop in first ... he was determined to be a perfect little gentleman tonight.
He struck up some idle conversation for the drive there and was happy when the ride came to an end ... not because he wasn't enjoying the boy's company, he was, but because he wasn't fond of carriage rides, they made him a little ill actually. He nodded to the driver, who had instructions to wait for them, and ushered the otter toward the performance hall.
I do hope you like the theater Aph.
He flashed the boy a smile before he produced two tickets and handed them to the women at the door. He lead Aph to their seats and settled in to watch the play ... which was actually rather good, some sort of romantic comedy. He didn't want something sad that might ruin the mood of the evening and this had seemed perfect at the time but he wondered, after it was over, if Aphasia had enjoyed the play as well.
In fact ... he was feeling a little shy himself this evening ... this was the first time he'd ever taken anyone out on a date ... and he worried hat the otter wasn't having a good time.
So .... what you think of it?

The carriage might have been rather plain, but he was used to being expected to transport himself on his own feet if he wanted to go anywhere, unless there was some form of public transportation that would take him there (in which case, he was expected to pay for the transportation himself). So to have the luxury of a carriage was a delight. Morpheus' attitude toward him in addition to this was definitely something he noticed. He didn't really even know how Mia had gotten into whatever argument it was with Mo, though it was enough that he was avoiding mentioning the situation to Mia, or his mother...or his other siblings, for that matter.
The theatre was overwhelming with its beauty and extravagance, and he knew he was making at least a little fool of himself as he stared around in stunned shock.
"It's amazing..." He felt like his whisper was going to be swallowed up.
The play was wonderful. He was laughing the entire time, and when the final scene ended and the curtain fell, he was applauding just as loudly as everyone else. As they left the theatre he was still giggling over a few scenes, leaning a bit on Mo to try and brace himself as the giggles made his stomach ache a bit.
"Oh, that was fantastic! I just about died. I haven't laughed so much in..." Well, in quite some time. It wasn't like the Court of Spades was a particularly happy place, and part of him wondered if it was a side-effect of being ruled by a Torquehelm Queen. But he didn't want to think about that now. Not when he was having so much fun.

He laughed along with Aph, glad to see him being so much more chipper then he normally was, smiling, laughing and just happy in general suited the boy far more... but it was pretty hard to remain chipper in a place that seemed to have doom and sorrow oozing from the very walls. but he wasn't going to think about that, no ... tonight his attention would be entirely devoted to his date and ensuring that he had a good time .... he needed one.
There's more too ... we've got reservations at the Glass Bell.
It wasn't a high class restaurant, he wasn't fond of those .... so little food for so very much, but it was fancy enough to appease his finicky nature. He made his way back to their carriage and again let the boy in first before settling in for the short ride. By carriage the restaurant was only about ten minutes away and when they arrived there was indeed a table waiting for them.
Get whatever you'd like .... and don't you dare think about picking something cause it's cheap.
He tried to fake sternness but all it turned into was a giggle and a smile.

His laughter quieted, and though the smile didn't go away, it did turn shy once again. Shy, but most definitely pleased.
"You're being way too nice to me, Mo. Thank you." Shyly - so very, very shyly - he leaned over and gently kissed the hybrid's cheek before he got into the carriage. It was a very simple expression of affection, nothing like the kisses that Mo would surprise him with now and then, but his own way of expressing himself (at least as best as he could right now).
The restaurant was nice, and he was glad that it wasn't nearly as fancy as he'd been afraid of, though it was still quite nice. Sitting down, he picked up the menu and was looking over it when Mo spoke, and he grinned at his date over the edge of his menu, feeling greatly daring to tease him the way he might a family member.
"Do I have to? I was thinking about just getting a glass of water and then staring at you for the rest of dinner as you ate. I wouldn't want to be a burden, after all."

His ears perked up when he received that little kiss on the cheek and his grin broadened. He knew Aph was shy, that being why he didn't show his affection in quite the same manner that he, himself did, and every time the otter did something like that it made him feel terribly special, and made the otter that much more endearing. Normally he wasn't one for the shy types but Aph made it made cute .... and he could appreciate that. He curled his tail up cheerfully and snuggled himself up next to the otter for the trip.
I'd have to make you eat the menu if you did that.
His voice was coated rather nicely with humor as he grinned over his own menu. Finally a waiter made his way over, a rather tall equine that looked like he was from the Sorgaire Range, and Mo let Aph put his order in first before he ordered himself some fettuccine alfredo .... he had a great love of pasta that was second only to fruit.
You know ... I love it when you smile.
He couldn't help himself ... he had to say it.

"Do you mean the menu itself, or everything on the menu?" It was a lot easier to relax and tease now, especially considering the play they'd just seen. He couldn't have stayed stiffly formal after that if he'd tried.
Looking over the menu, it didn't take him long to find his own choice of dinner, and he handed the menu over with an order of the tuna steak. Judging by the quality of the restaurant, it would be coming straight from the Lakes, or from the Beach, or from wherever it was that the fish actually came from, and thus would be ridiculously fresh and good. He was going to take advantage of that as much as possible.
The compliment, however, had him tripping over his own mental feet as his thoughts screeched to a halt, a blush suffusing his cheeks as he ducked his head down, playing with a tuft of fur and focusing on that.
"Thank you..." Best to say that than to try and argue with Mo, because that never worked out.

He grinned at the otter's reaction to his compliment .... if he got that was due to a simple compliment, well.... Mo couldn't wait to see what he'd do when he broke out his last surprise, but he was saving that for the trip home. He took a sip of his water and started up some more conversation and continued to do so throughout their meal, which was delicious ... but he hadn't expected anything less from this restaurant. He paid the bill and left a nice tip for the waiter and then it was time to head home.
He followed his same gentlemanly routine when it came to the carriage, but made more of an effort to be cuddly this time around. He was full and happy and wanted nothing more then to snuggle up with the warm otter on the seat cushion. He waited until they were roughly halfway home, kind of hard to tell really, and peered up and over at the Spade.
Hey Aph, there's something I've been meaning to ask you .... but I wanted to wait a little.
He waited until he was certain he had the otter's full attention before he continued. His voice was a little different then it normally was, somewhat lacking in the confidence it usually held.
Would you like us to be .... official?
He perked his pointy ears forward inquisitively as he waited for a response .... any kind of response ...
