Kelasia gave the man a gentle smile; his worry for the boy was touching as well as his care for the rest of his children. Though, the skunk realized with some surprise; weren’t the rest of Theo’s children grown now? She wasn’t entirely certain. ”It seems quite wise to let him grow used to the City before trying to acclimate him to the Courts,” she agreed softly. She hadn’t heard the nicest things about the Courts; her only reason for eyeing them was to stay near Theofilus; he was so often gone on official business, even when he was still within the Capital City. But the man knew nothing of her ambitions and she would keep them hidden for as long as she could. Wot if she failed? Better he not know until it was a surety.
”As soon as you feel it’s right to introduce us,” she said softly. ”I would love to meet him.” She hesitated for a moment before suggesting, ”I don’t mind watching him for you, Theofilus. Anytime you need to take a break and get some time alone, or… well, for anything.”

Why did she know the right thing to say to him? Even if he could not accept the offer, he still needed to hear it. He looked into her eyes. Their chance meeting was one of the best things that could have happened to him. It always started with a chance meeting, didn't it? One day she would have to know about Calia wouldn't she? How would that go?
That wasn't the problem now, was it? He had to deal with that when it came around, sooner or later. He could only hope for later. This much misfortune and drama was bad enough. His feathers would be permanently ruffled if anymore was added to the pile.
"Thank you so much for the offer. I don't know if I'll ever be able to take it." Theofilus suddenly looked away. "I feel like there's something else I need to tell you. I don't know what it is though...."
He wanted to tell her everything. He just didn't want her to think any less of him for it though. All the things that happened--Pravus--everything! It just couldn't come out properly. Everything was so complicated it became nothing but a haze in the end.

Kelasia nodded her head slightly, eyes dropping away again. Of course he wouldn’t feel he could take her up on the offer; there was no proof she was any good at all with children; despite the fact that she’d worked for him for so long, she still hadn’t really done anything to prove her –worth- to him; at least, not her worth outside running numbers. Someday she would find a way to prove to him that she –was- capable and truly worthwhile, something far more than just a charity case. But today would not be that day; she had already taken steps to get her chance. The Palace would surely contact her soon.
”I will gladly listen to wotever you want to tell me, Theofilus,” she said softly, fervour in her voice though her tones remained gentle. She wanted to know all that had happened, but only if he wanted to tell her. Well, no, she really –did- want to know, but she would not press. She would never press Theofilus for anything he did not freely give to her.

Theofilus' voice seemed to catch in his throat. For a long while he couldn't speak, he cold only look at Kelasia. So much to tell her, but none of it wanted to leave his beak. At this moment he wanted the silence to last forever. It was more peaceful than his thoughts, but not as peaceful as her words.
"I was treated like a common whore, nearly raped by my companion, nearly killed by Lowlanders. No respect. The place was filthy. Eilwyn is still in horrible condition because of the years he spent there. I think I hate the Lowlands and its residents more than anything else in this known and unknown world." He let out a rough sigh. That was the short version of everything. The short and very cleaned up version of the mess that occurred. He couldn't imagine her reaction to his sudden outburst. Theofilus honestly didn't want to see it. "Kelasia, I'm so very sorry. I feel like a burden."
Why should he dump all of his problems on his loved ones? He should be strong enough to take care of the pain. He took a deep shaky breath. Why was he so useless when he needed to be strong?

Kelasia’s heart contracted at his words, at his tone; as he spoke she lay her head against his shoulder, still running a hand gently over the feathers in an effort to soothe both of them. She couldn’t imagine wot he’d gone through, listening silently to offer him her support in the only way she knew how. She pet his arm and tried to think of something she could say, something she could do to make it all better… but she had nothing.
However, at his next statement, she sat up in indignation. ”You are –not- a burden! And you have nothing to apologize for! You did as you were commanded by the Queen of Hearts and if you hadn’t been there, who knows where Eilwyn would be right now! You’ve improved his life, you’ve… improved mine.” She flushed when those words came out, but she pushed on anyway. ”You help virtually everyone you come into contact with and we all want to help you in gratitude for the wonderful things you’ve done for us. You have no reason to apologize and never think you’re a burden because you’re –not-.”

Theofilus was surprised at her sudden outburst. He really hadn't expected it from her. He listened quite intently as she spoke. He had touched her life for the better? He had helped Eilwyn. But... it still didn't seem to be enough. He could always do better for them, couldn't he? Had he really touched people? Was it really the time to debate this?
"Thank you. I really had no idea. None at all." He looked at her with searching eyes. She was telling the truth, he didn't need magic for that. She was the honest sort. A part of Theofilus still struggled to believe her statement. How could a selfish little sparrow from the Lakes manage to touch others lives? He wasn't even good enough to save his brother, how could he touch other people? No. He didn't need a lack of confidence or any of that other nonsense right now. He needed to stop questioning and simply focus.
"Maybe we should do something else for a bit. I seem to be getting a mild headache." He was. He could feel the pain tingling between his eyes. The last time he got headache like this was he first started working. If he wasn't careful it would be a migraine. However this one didn't seem all that bad. "I think maybe we should at least stop for a drink or something."

Kelasia tried to smile bravely at him, but her own worry was echoing through her eyes. Nevertheless, the truth of her words shone brightly in her gaze. She was indebted to the man and that only added to her desire to please and thank him. She didn’t know wot ghosts haunted the man, but she desperately wished she could help alleviate them somehow. For now, she would simply continue to strive to help him any way she could.
”Of course,” she agreed immediately, brushing her hand across his arm one last time before rising. ”Would you like something here? Or would you like to go out?” She could read the strain in his face and it simply added to her already intense concern. She was willing to bend to any of his desires if only it would help him relax! Now would probably be a good time to get Rogers involved, actually; the German Shepherd was the epitome of relaxed.

Theofilus was about to respond when Rogers slipped in with a large tray of tea. So he had been listening at the door then? Whatever suited him. Theofilus couldn't really complain as the German Shepard wordlessly handed him tea. It was good for him, but the sparrow was reluctant. He knew it was horribly bitter.
He got a stern look from the German Shepard as she walked across the room to hand Kelasia her tea. It wasn't the same as Theo's her was sweet and mild. Theofilus didn't know for sure that that was the truth, but he was sure it tasted better than this. He sipped it. His expression sour as the bitterness was overwhelming.
"It'll make your headache go away," Rogers said in reassurance.
The sparrow looked at him with a sour expression. As right as he was he still felt like a child being scolded for not taking his medicine. "Couldn't I at least have a lump or sugar in it?"
"No, that defeats the purpose." He said as he carefully placed the tray on Kelasia's desk.
"Meh. Not like it works properly anyway," the sparrow muttered as he took another sip. At least somethings didn't change.

Kelasia smiled as she gladly accepted the drink from the German Shepherd, retreating back to her own chair for now. She loved listening to the two men talk, especially when Rogers sent her a quick wink at Theofilus’ complaining. She saw these two men as far closer to her than her family had ever been and it made her heart swell in pleasure. Was that wot Theofilus had meant? She wasn’t really certain.
She wanted to know more about the bird’s history, wanted to know how to help him and make things better, but she didn’t want to return to their serious topics. She wasn’t entirely certain wot they should discuss next, so she simply smiled and kept sipping her tea. She was worried about her employer, though. Terribly worried.
”Would a spoonful of sugar really interfere so greatly with the healing properties of the tea?” she asked gently. She didn’t see anything wrong with helping the medicine go down, so to speak, if it would have an inverse effect.
