Parzifal sighed and shook his head, looking at the back door and wondering where his siblings were. He hoped they'd gotten them all out okay so that Master wouldn't have an issue.
"You're really lucky in that, though. Having parents who care about you, I mean, and who're protective of you. That's... a really good thing. You shouldn't ever be unhappy about that." Because you never knew when they might be gone and leave you for good.
He shook his head and left that train of thought right away. This girl was really good at dredging up unhappy memories. Then again, they were really easy to bring to the surface. "I hope you get out to see them when you can. I've only been to Torquehelm and the Capital City. Well, and here, but yeah. You probably wouldn't enjoy Torquehelm. Mostly we lived in the attic of our grandfather's house, but it wasn't a very happy place. It... well, I wasn't glad to leave it, but I wasn't really happy there either. We weren't allowed to leave the attic. It's nice to live in the tower, even if Master is a bit strict. He's still fair and only punishes us when we don't listen."
And he'd gone horribly off-tangent and talked a lot. Well.

"Oh. Wow," Sage said as she stared blankly at the bird in front of her. She hadn't expected something like that to come from the boy. Well, it could be stranger she supposed. Daddy apparently had a horrible past that he wasn't willing to share with anyone. Rosemary knew about somethings because she pestered him enough that he caved, but that was a special case.
"I'm really sorry you had to live in an attic. I wish I could say I understand but that would be a lie." Boy did she feel stupid. This must have been what her mother felt like sometimes when she was talking to dad about things. "Being too sheltered can be just as dangerous as anything else... and I can't imagine Vren punishing you very often. You seem like a very good person."
She actually couldn't imagine the man punishing anyone. He seemed too nice to do something like that, but then again so did Dad.

Parzifal shrugged and smiled as best he could with a beak. He didn't know how adept she was at reading bird expressions but he didn't suppose it mattered. You just had to watch the edges of the beak more closely, and the eyes. "It's not really that bad. At the time, we didn't know about much outside of the attic. And it was... better there than afterwards." He didn't elaborate, not feeling much up to it.
She was a nice girl for all that she seemed awfully shy. His sister was shy in a different kind of way, but he could still handle her in much the same way. Talk more than he normally would, be expressive, and just generally act 'normal'. That was what always seemed to work when he actually wanted to put someone shy at ease rather than just go unnoticed.
"He only punishes us when we're stupid or clumsy or rude or something like that so it isn't all that often. Most of the time it's just a smack across the face. He doesn't do anything really bad. And whenever he does it, it's always because we did something." He was unpredictable in a lot of ways, but his treatment of them remained very consistent. It was something he appreciated hugely. "So tell me, where do you come from? I've seen your Mom come over here a few times so you can't be too far away, right? And do you want something to drink?"

On to topics that Sage was somewhat familiar with. She didn't feel as awkward as before, but she still had trouble getting over her shy nature. Maybe one day she could manage that? Maybe not. It was almost a crippling fear.
"We come from the village not to far off. It's not a very long walk there. You could probably reach it faster though, since you can fly." She admired him for that, even if it was a bit harder to pick up expressions from someone with a beak, he seemed to be happy. The wolf-squirrel gave him a small smile as she continued to fidget with her hands. "A glass of water might be nice, though I can get it if its too much trouble for you. I imagine not having hands is a bit difficult. I know my sisters complain a lot about it."
Understatement of the century.

"I'd like to visit other places inside and outside the Wood when I get a little bit older and if Master gives me permission," Parzifal admitted with a slightly wistful note. He wasn't really able to stretch his wings here, not for any more distance than a few dozen feet. It wasn't nearly satisfying enough. There wasn't anywhere for them to go even if they wanted to, not without permission. "Maybe someday I'll get to see your village too."
At the mention of water, he shook his head and stepped back to flutter onto the counter. "It's not too bad, really. I've never had hands so I don't really know what it would be like to have them, except for seeing Master use them all the time. I want them, though, you can be sure of that. Someday I'll have them." He had ambitions, quiet though they were. He didn't flash them around but they were always there. With one foot he reached into a cabinet for a glass and set it in the sink, then turned the knob of the faucet until it was filled with water. He set it back on the counter and flew down, looking at her. "It would probably be a lot less messy if you were to pick it up now, though."

She gave him a smile. Well he was quite talented without hands. Sage picked up the glass like he directed. "Thank you Parzi. I appreciate it," she took a sip of the water. Nice and cold, and having something in her hands made her feel better.
"I-It would be really nice if you could visit. Having someone around besides my siblings might be nice. I get picked on quite a bit..." she looked down into her glass of water as she spoke. She tried hard not to be harp on things when she was around her brothers and sisters but failed quite spectacularly. She just... couldn't let go of things sometimes.
But really, she tried her hardest and got nothing out of it. Just Rosemary was willing to be forgiving. Well, there was Mommy and Daddy but they didn't really count. "Thank you," she said in a whisper.

Parzifal tilted his head, very much a bird-like gesture, and watched her with a bit of confusion. "You're welcome. I'm sorry to hear that, though. People should be good to their brothers and sisters. Family is... important. Probably the most important thing. What else do we have?" What else did he have was the implied question. He had himself, his siblings, a place in his master's tower... and his ambitions. Those weren't something to discount either. They would get him out of being a servant someday, being essentially owned.
But for now, Sage looked upset and he wasn't quite sure what to do or say. He wondered if it would be worthwhile, trying to treat her the same as he might his sister when she got that quiet and distressed. She was the first person around his age besides Poe and Imre that he'd ever gotten to speak to in his entire life.
He hopped closer and reached out one wing, touching her shoulder with light feathers. "It's okay. I won't pick on you. You don't have to be that quiet if you don't want to. You can ask more questions if you want. I don't mind talking instead if you don't want to." He didn't like to see people upset in general, especially not a girl who reminded him so much of his sister, though a lot less... Poe.

She gave him an actual smile. Something that Mommy, Daddy and Rose only really got to see. They were the only people who tried to be nice to her. "You're very nice," she said a little louder than before.
Sage really couldn't be loud. There was just something about it that was rather difficult for her at this age. Maybe when she was older she could manage to have a stronger voice... like her singing voice, but she barely did that around people.
"What exactly do you do for Vren? I mean... besides bring tea and help properly feed the wild banders?" She really didn't know what servants did. Well, there was the Yvette, but she couldn't see Parzi and his siblings cooking anything. And what was boiling on the stove? It seemed rather threatening, and it didn't help that it was a hideous shade of blue.
Maybe... she would ask him if he wanted to hear her sing? That was something she could do that was interesting.

Parzifal cocked his head and smiled along with her. That was better. Things were never as bad when he could get his sister to smile, and Sage seemed to be the same. If she hadn't been, if would have taken him longer to figure out what to do to improve the situation. "Thank you. I'd have to say the same about you. Certainly not the kind of person who should be picked on." For the life of him, he just couldn't understand why someone would be mean to their siblings. Family was too important...
"Well, we help him clean up a little bit when he moves stuff and the dust starts attacking. A lot of it's little chores and whatever he can think for us to do at the time. He sees us, something pops into his head, and he tells us to do it. If we can't-" he held up a wing "-then he'll either figure out a way to make it so we can or go and do it himself. He gives us a lot of free time, provided that we're around and don't go too far away from the tower. When we get older, he says there should be more for us to do."
It was so strange. Looking at her, she seemed like a singer to him. She had ever since he answered the door, but he'd ignored the thought because it was strange. Her mom seemed harmless and Sage looked like she had a beautiful voice. They were both just feelings.
