The girl visibly blushed, her fur did very little to cover it up. It was nice to hear that someone didn't think she should be picked on besides Mommy and Daddy. Rosemary never really commented on that, but she understood entirely.
"Well, it seems like you have a lot to do then. Sometimes I wish my parents let me do more," she gave a small grin. Daddy taught them what they needed to know, and she didn't have much to do around the house because Daddy took care of it. She was left to play with Mommy and her dolls. One day she wanted to know how to cook as well as Daddy, but that would be a while off, wouldn't it?
"Uh... um... I was wondering, do you want to hear me sing? I mean, a lot of people ask me too, and I just generally don't. And uh... you seem nice enough so I thought I would offer." She failed at being sociable.

Parzifal's smile slowly turned into a grin as hers did. She looked a lot less jittery now, a bit more comfortable with herself. At least here, with him. That was excellent. He far preferred people to be happy and grinning, especially when he was able to help make them that way. "You look best when you smile. You should do it more often." He said that to his sister too, whenever he actually managed to get her in a cheerful mood. It usually made her laugh a little bit.
He was also talking more than he normally would around a complete stranger, but here was one he wanted to see smiling and it seemed to be working. So maybe he should just talk more around strangers and his speech impediment be damned. He wasn't sure. It would depend on the people.
The offer caught him slightly by surprise. "You know, just looking at you, I got the impression that you had a really amazing singing voice. Mine sounds a little bit more like a crow cawing than anything pretty, but something about you just screams 'singer'. If you would be willing to, I'd love to listen. I haven't heard anyone actually sing-" since the day their mother was murdered "-in a long time."

Well, that was what a lot of people said about her. The squirrel wolf hesitated, she had to think of a song to sing, didn't she? She was always bad at pinking out songs, and singing in front of strangers. But she had offered, and she wasn't going to back down when he was so nice to her.
She cleared her throat and downed her entire glass of water. Setting it on the counter top she turned back to Parzifal. What had her Dad sang recently that would be pretty enough that she could manage.
"It's getting dark... too soon... a threatening silence...Surrounding me... a wind comes up from the islands...Distance fades to stormy grey, Washed out from the deep of the ocean, Here I will stand to face your wrath...While all the others are praying..." She really hoped she was singing it properly. Her voice was the right tone, she was pausing in the proper places, but she wasn't as good as Daddy was.
"Calm down my heart...don't beat so fast...Don't be afraid just once in a lifetime..." She trailed off. That was as much as she could remember of the song under all the unseen pressure. She needed to get better at that.
She took a small bow. "I'm sorry, I can't remember the rest."

Parzifal sat to listen, settling more comfortably on the cool floor of the kitchen and tucking his wings back. He was glad he'd gotten her the glass of water from how she downed it all. Maybe that was what prompted her to ask? He had no idea.
Whatever the reason... she had the most amazing voice. His red eyes were wider as she finished. "Don't be sorry. That was really, really beautiful. I've never heard that song before. If I had hands, I would clap for you. As it is, I'd probably just look like an idiot hitting his wing-feathers together." And if he tried to sing, he would sound like a cawing crow with a speech impediment. Not exactly the most pleasant of noises.
"But yes... thank you for singing! Imre and Poe are going to be sorry they missed that. It's really amazing, how much you just look like a singer."

As luck would have it, Poe and Imre returned to the kitchen just in time to hear that they had missed something. Imre leaned against the back door to the kitchen, supporting it for his sister who hobbled in quietly before tilting her head to peer up at Parzi and his visitor. "What did we miss, Parzi?" Poe asked quietly as she made her way over to the pair. Her movements were painfully restricted, but Poe had long grown accustomed to the shuffling hobble she had been reduced to. Poe recognized the young biped from previous visits but had never really spoken to her or grasped her name. So she simply smiled and dipped her head a bit lower. Imre lingered in behind his sister, quiet as a ghost as he made his way into the room with the empty feeders. He'd busy himself with cleaning up and not existing, it was easiest that way. Poe and Parzi were better at the whole socializing thing than he was. Besides, people just tended to give him odd looks after a bit of talking to him.

Sage nearly jumped when she heard the other voice. She was just about to reply to Parzi's comment too. With a small smile she tried to cover up being flustered. She brushed her kimono down a bit as she looked at the two birds who had just entered the room.
"It's nice to meet you, I'm Sage... and you missed me singing, that's all." Nothing special really. It was just a song she heard her Daddy sing while he was working. One day she would be able to sing properly in front of people, and get through an entire song. She wouldn't just look like a singer, she would be a singer.
She glanced at the boy who was cleaning the empty feeders. Her eyes stopped when she saw his marking. It was... white? That wasn't normal was it? She looked back at the hunched over canary and Parzi, felling out of place once again.

When his siblings walked in the back door, Parzifal's grin toned itself down again and he welcomed Poe to his side with an outstretched wing, touching her gently. Contact was always good with her - it was nonthreatening from him and showed he cared. That was often the same for Imre, but the other corvid was too far away for him to interact with readily. He would make up for it later, after Sage had left.
"She has a really pretty voice," he said to his sister. Of the three of them, she could probably sing the best, but she hadn't since before they came to this place. He could understand why, of course. "I don't know what she sang, but you'd probably like it. How did the bander feeding go?"
Looking back at their guest, her stance gave him the hint that she was uncomfortable. The way she fiddled with her hands, brushing her clothes or moving them together... It didn't help that she had fallen quiet again. "So this is my sister, Poe, and that's my brother, Imre."

The touch was a welcome one, and Poe smiled gratefully up at her brother. Parzifal was probably the only reason the three of them were still sane. Or well, none of them were entirely sane, but he did the best job of it and of keeping them in one piece.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sage." She dipped her head a little lower, before tilting his head. "I would love to hear you sing sometime, if you'd be willing." Not only did Parzi claim it was lovely but Sage simply looked like she'd be a pleasure to listen to. Poe, however, was not one to push at things such as that.
Heavens knew that she herself couldn't have sang in front of the small group gathering now.
Imre glanced up as he heard his name, tilting his head until he could properly see who he was being introduced to. Shy as he might be, Imre wasn't rude. He especially wasn't going to be rude to a friend of his brothers. He bobbed his head a little, neglecting his cleaning for just a moment.
"Hi Sage." He shuffled his feet, and tried hard to keep his gaze on hers as he spoke. She was pretty and he wanted to hear her sing too although he'd never ask. "It's nice meeting you."

Sage blushed. It showed rather well through her white fur, that was the problem with being so pale. You really couldn't hide it for very long. She looked down at her feet briefly. Well, maybe she should sing for them again since they asked so nicely.
But she honestly couldn't find the lyrics to the song she had sung before. How embarrassing. Her tail twitched for a few moments before she actually found any words. "When I can remember the rest of the song I'll sing the whole thing for you I guess. Right now I just can't seem to find the lyrics." Or the tune or her voice. It was all just very difficult when she was under pressure.
She glanced back up at the three of them. She wanted to ask about Poe... and why her bindings were so strange. The seemed horribly cruel, but then again she didn't know much about bindings. They seemed rather horrible in general.
