Kelasia 'watched' this exchange with her eyes on the floor and she was awed by the beautiful female's confident and strong demeanour. Even if they couldn't be friends as she'd never seen the lovely being before in her entire life. But, oh! How she wished they were friends! Maybe she could pick up some of that wonderful confidence that made up the Gardens resident's demeanour.
At Osias' words, Kelasia began almost absently, "That can't be--" As soon as any attention was directed towards her, the words stopped and she ducked her head suddenly. But it didn't seem right that he word it that way. Needing to have her hearing checked implied her hearing was -bad-, and it certainly wasn't. But she shouldn't correct people, especially not complete strangers that she had disturbed to begin with! She flushed as she berated herself silently, tail nearly plastered to her hindlegs.

Minh nudged the trolley along at a leisurely pace through the stacks, navigating in what she hoped was vaguely the direction of the front desk. She couldn’t be sure, however—her path to her present location had been a convoluted series of rights and lefts and down-to-the-ends. And there had been some staircases in there, too. When put to comparison, the national library certainly put the miniscule library in Corvistowne to shame. Thus far she had regretted her impulsive move to the capital—granted, there were a great more many hard up for cash, and thus eager volunteers for her little genetic splicing project—and it was much easier to keep a secret lab secret—small towns and the subsequent rumor mill wreck havoc on those desirous of the reclusive, mad-scientist route—but the noise produced by traffic and so many goddamn individuals was atrocious, and if she was going to stay for any long period of time she would just have to invest in sound proof walls. Because, really—some people were trying to concentrate. She was considering the merits of breathing underwater—and wouldn’t that be a project!—when her tufted ears picked up a harsh whisper and her interest was instantly perked. People should really know better than to whisper—whispers were a higher frequency, and much easier for creatures such as herself to detect. To keep a secret you’d be better to talk normally. Trotting along a little more briskly, cart in the lead, she made her way forward. If she was lucky, maybe one of them would be interested in acquiring gills. If she wasn’t, maybe at least someone knew the way out of the blasted library.

Mnemosyne waited for the skunk to complete her sentence, but she never did. She felt a sudden rush of pity. She had never met someone quite so insecure before, and she wondered what might have been responsible for her timid nature.
She almost wanted to smooth things over with the rat, whom she seemed to have offended, but pride nipped that one in the bud. She was not accustomed to apologizing. Mostly she just wheedled and charmed until the person she had irritated became convinced that they were in the wrong, and attempted to make ammends, at which point Mnemosyne would graciously forgive them. But there was obviously no time for that; she half-suspected it wouldn't work here anyway.
She was thinking of something to say when she heard the rolling of a cart.
Cheerily, she said, "Looks like we're about to have another addition to the party."

The grouchy old rat was, indeed, rather annoyed... however as he got to see the skunk's persona a bit more he began to get a few ideas that soothed his mind a bit and made him grin as well, more to himself then his present company. However he wasn't permitted to stay within his own thoughts for very long, which seemed to be becoming the theme of the day.
He'd also heard the less then silent movements of yet another approaching the unplanned trio. His hairless tail wiggled around a bit in frustration, similar but not exactly the same as a feline's would before he decided that since his day was pretty much ruined he might make one small effort to be social, even if it did just turn out to be with the feline that approached. She hadn't been part of the... distraction he was given earlier anyhow.
He did, however, have a sour puss reputation to live up to and grumbled a single word under his breath in response to the rather brightly colored female's words. Unfortunatly...

Oblivious to both Mnem's pity, though it wouldn't surprise the Range occupant, and Osias' potential machinations, the skunk was still staring awkwardly at the floor. The Lowlander seemed irritated about something, and she wouldn't be surprised if it was her fault. But she couldn't make herself ask and, fortunately, was soon saved from making an attempt.
Kel's ears flicked at the sound of oncoming cart and she gave one, swift glance up then back down to see who might be approaching. Another beautiful creature; a feline! She wondered if this being would be as wonderfully confident as the canine or more commanding as the rat. Wotever the newcomers personality, she was also lovely to look at. Kel's tail began to tuck slightly; of the three females present she was definitely the least nice to look at. She so wished she had the Yarrow Garden's confidence!

Minh’s nose twitched in delight—a rat! Hell’s bells, she was ravenous. Oh course, it was probably considered impolite to make a snack out of a “higher” life form, but Minh had never really been one for social conventions.
The canine is the first she really notices, hackles flaring up before she can forcibly flatten them. The skunk is a cowering oddity—perhaps something was wrong with her brain chemistry? If that was the case, Minh would be more than happy to help her out—for a small fee, of course. It was rather costly to keep a secret lab supplied with fresh supplies of coffee and various toxic chemicals, after all.
When she greets the group, sidling up with her cart, her eyes are on the rat—and the toothy smile is all for him.
“Well, hello there.”

Mnemosyne’s curiosity and amusement were instantly piqued by the toothy, predatory smile the new arrival flashed the rat. Finally, she thought, something to entertain her. She could support this.
She could support this with quite a bit of enthusiasm.
Perhaps she could even take a more active role in the festivities? She tossed her most winsome, conspiratorial smile at the cat.
“Anything I can assist you with, m’dear?”

Minh smirked, initial unease at the bigger canine’s presence gone the second she spots that wicked, dastardly grin so similar to her own. She had the feeling this was the beginning of a…lucrative…friendship and she could so work with that.
It would be an interesting experiment in social interaction--even after her move to the city, she was still expertly avoiding any unnecessary interaction. People really weren't her thing. They were all so self-centered, always interrupting her work with idiotic questions and bothersome conventions.
Her brother, Yevon take him, was the only person who could interrupt her work and live. It probably did help that he was almost as smart as her. And maybe this Mnemosyne would be the same.
She sticks out a paw in greeting, “Minh: biochemist and committed carnivore.”

The cat had said little, but Mnemosyne fancied she could glean an emormous amount of information, both from the spoken words and the physical gestures. Biochemist. She liked the sound of that. Minh, as she was evidently called, seemed a creative sort, and one who also might be more than a little bit mad. Mnemosyne was creative too, in a different way.
She wasn't quite certain in which way their personalities and talents would combine, but she definitely knew that the experience would provide a wonderful diversion.
(She wondered briefly if it would be possible to somehow include the skunk; that poor little thing looked like she could use a few friends and an adventure.)
She inclined her head in amiable greeting to mirror the cat's raised paw.
"Mnemosyne," she replied, "the sly. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
