”Oh, well, I don’t know…” Kelasia said quietly and hesitantly. ”I don’t want to intrude…” But Minh was eyeing the rat with that frightening glint in her eye, and the skunk had the distinct feeling that she didn’t want to know wot the cat would do if left to her own devices. Perhaps it would be better to simply agree and get them all out of there.
”There –is- a rather nice café just a few blocks over,” she offered in the same faltering tones. She didn’t like being the one to suggest places; it went against her nature really. Especially since she was usually shot down one way or another; she rarely actually had good ideas on her own.
She surreptitiously glanced from the feline to the canine. She wasn’t sure if she could handle the two for an extended length of time; she had a feeling that they would be warping effects on her. Kel simply hoped that she’d turn out better for the influences. She bit her lip uneasily.

Mnemosyne smiled brightly and encouragingly at the skunk, pleased to see her speaking so many words in a row. She was becoming thoroughly convinced that, combining their forces, she and Minh could bring out something interesting, like the way Mnem used to tease complex and deadly poisons out of innocuous-looking plants.
She wondered idly for a moment whether this helpless-looking creature could be deadly, too. She almost hoped this were true, for pure entertainment value. But that was contemplation for another time.
Instead, she spoke. "That sounds wonderful." She really had not been in the city long, and only intended to linger as long as she had to, but she may as well become acquainted with a few charming hangouts. And coffee sounded divine. Mnem was a firm believer that people did not need sleep; merely caffeine. "You lead the way, Kelasia, and Minh and I shall follow."

Right, she did need to lead, didn't she? Kelasia gave a low, inner sigh. How –she- of all SDs ended up as tour guide was astounding; she knew about three places in town. But…. Another glance towards Minh and then Mnem convinced her she was doing the right thing. Those two were trouble personified and somehow their collision together felt more like the offspring of fate and Murphy ’s Law than of destiny.
She bobbed her head uneasily, with a sudden striking thought that she shouldn’t let them BOTH walk behind her, but there really wasn’t much she could do about it just then. She gave another, slightly more audible sigh and finished gathering up her books.
”It was nice to meet you,” she told the silent rat with a blush. ”Please… take care.” It almost sounded like a question, but then the skunk swiftly darted away. She hurried up to the desk to check out two of the books then returned to Mnem and Minh’s sides. She gave them a quick, questioning glance, ready to lead them to the café as soon as they were ready.

Mnem had picked up no books of her own (she had not had much time to search, and found the people she encountered to ultimately be more interesting and stimulating anyway), so she was ready to leave as soon as Minh and Kelasia were--and they looked quite ready. A cafe, with its intimate cozy atmosphere and near-endless flow of delightful caffeinated beverages, would be an ideal location to--scheme, as it were--with her new companions, and the thought bolstered her mood to new heights of cheeriness.
She almost felt like she was back in business again, mixing up something terrible. But she had had no real companions, then, merely associates, and untrustworthy ones at that.
With alacrity, she began moving toward the exit and said, "Well, then, what are we dallying for? I could murder for a coffee."
With that, they left.
