There was absolutely no way Shinrai was going to leave Darrien in the clutches of the females, whether or not the Selkies Lakes canine deserved it for immediately discrediting the stallion even after Rai had gone out of his way to assist the dog. And now sushi? Lovely for carnivores, but not so wonderful for the herbivore. Rai watched Rocky disappear swiftly through the crowd with a sense of absolute despair; the raccoon’s bouncy demeanour was a bit overwhelming at times, but Rai felt bereft losing any of their masculine influence.
Nevertheless, the Corvistowneian was gone and the stallion was left alone in a hostile location. His ears flattened against his head and he took a deep, bracing breath. He would keep his tongue and he would protect Darrien despite himself. Blast it. He remained silent, though, simply following behind the group anyway. Hopefully he could find something on the menu that he could eat.

It was not a long journey to the sushi joint, as she had said. It was a nice, elegant little building painted in swirls of blue and green to resemble the sea, and had the general aura of some place relaxing and quaint. The raccoon was gone, she had noticed, but Shinrai was still following. Curious. She would have thought the stallion would have bailed when the opportunity had presented itself, and for once Mnem was not in the mood to chase after him and make him miserable, so he would have been able to slip away. Very curious.
Horses didn't even eat meat as far as she knew, despite how fun Minh thought it would be to somehow create a carnivorous equine. Perhaps he was attempting to protect Darrien from their so-called evil influence? He was on a fool's errand, then. Too late for that. Mnem's plans for the canine were already settled, and judging by the way Darrien looked at her, nothing the stallion did could spoil them. It was a good day.
She walked quickly up to the host. "Eumeleia," she told him. "Party of four." She was told it would be something like ten minutes before they could be seated, so Mnem nodded her understanding and went back to her companions.
"It'll be but a moment," she informed them.

Minh sank down into the booth with a relieved sigh—their ten-minute wait had been closer to five, and she was absolutely famished. Waiting for so long had about finished her.
“Anything I can get you to drink, while you decide?” Their waiter was a nondescript, middle-aged canine male who Minh would normally pay all the attention she would give a cockroach, but food was on the line and as so he appeared on her radar, for however short a time. She considered her options for a moment and decided to go with the traditional choice: saki.
Pursuing the menu Minh found herself pleasantly surprised; the restaurant had a surprisingly decent selection. Minh was leaning towards Temaki, though Nigirizushi was always a good choice, too. Indecisiveness was a horrible thing indeed.
She threw a side-glance at Shinrai, “You know, there are quite a few items without meat but I think you might like Inarizushi, especially.”

The stallion was not pleased about this, but he was trying to be game. Trying new things, new and exciting, meat-filled things. For the love of… The stallion’s ears went back in a petulant motion though he kept most of that expression from being evident across his face. The horse glanced towards the feline in suspicion at her suggestion; loathe to ask, but having to since he really knew nothing about sushi at all, except that it was raw fish. ”Inari sushi?” the horse repeated a bit uneasily. ”Wot exactly is inari?”
He wasn’t entirely certain if she’d just said that it was meat or not. He also wasn’t entirely certain he wanted to know. Of course, honestly, he didn’t even want to be here. Deep breaths, keep it easy and calm. He, thus far, had little to share in this dinner out, but he did quietly ask for water to drink.

Minh frowned in annoyance at the obvious distrust in the stallion’s voice, but shook it off with a little bit of hard-earned effort. She could have suggested a meat dish and not tell him, as a sort of pseudo-experiment to see if any of the previously noted mutations had taken hold in his manifestation of the retrovirus; for once she’d actually been trying to be nice.
“Inari is a pouch made out of fried tofu and stuffed with sushi rice. It’s not my favorite, but it might be better suited for your palate.”
The waiter returned with their drinks, and she offered a muttered thanks as she accepted hers before turning to her other dinner companions, “So… Darrien. What are you doing in the big city?”
Not that she cared particularly, but Mnemosyne seemed to taken a shine to the handsome canine. Possibly to piss Shinrai off, and Minh couldn’t help but think it might be working—Shinrai could tell himself all he wanted he was here to protect Darrien from the wicked females, but Shinrai just wasn’t that kind of guy. He was jealous, and she wondered how long it would take him to figure it out.

Interesting question, thought Mnemosyne as she picked slowly at her own funazushi (a delicacy, of course; Mnem would not settle for less, especially when she was enjoying herself out on the town), and one to which she was also curious to know the answer. She knew that he was looking for an office building at this particular time, but she did not know of his larger motivation. And as she planned on spending a good deal more time with the canine--if perhaps in a more limited sense--it might be handy to have a clear grasp of his character. A nice thing to file away for future reference.
She was also enjoying the stallion's apparent discomfort and lack of familiarity with the situation and the food. She almost hoped he would ingest something awful and respond accordingly, but now was not the place to stage a scene. She wanted the meal to run smoothly.
Quiet observation it was, then. For now.

He had to smile a little when the feline showed her excitement for the sushi meal. He did not think that he had ever seen any one get so excited about sushi personally, but to each their own. He was also a little surprised when “Whip” followed them, but then again he had offered him a meal as well for his help in finding the office which he would have liked to go towards first, but it seemed that nourishment was first.
The blue building reminded him of home and for a slight second he was homesick. He realized that he had missed his sister and how she doted all over him. His father’s harshness would have been missed if he was not here in the capital for work, but that was unimportant now, he was on his own while in the capital.
He waited patiently until they had been seated and now he just watched every one order and eat their food. He was partial to salmon himself and had ordered a small variety consisting of such. He watched “Whip” turn up his nose he suddenly felt sorry for the equine. This probably was not the best place to take the herbivore, perhaps he could take him out again to make up for this under sight. Mnem on the other had been radiant as she ate her meal. He personally wondered why she was here in the capital. His thoughts were interrupted by Minh’s question though. “Oh, I’m here on business, the office I’m looking for is the family business. My father sent me here to take care of one of the accounts he entrusted to me.”[/b] He did not know what more to say really…that was about it, why he was sent here was for business, nothing more and nothing less.

Accounts, businesses, it all sounded like music to Mnem's ears. What she really wanted was some kind of in on the shipping business, but she was willing to explore any avenue that presented itself, especially if it allowed her to spend more time with the Selkie Lakes canine. It might be too easy, as well. The mention of a father in connection to handling a business rang a lot of bells in Mnem's head; she had come across a good deal of that type in the past, the ones who were trying to impress or show up their daddies, and it was the absolute easiest button to find and hit repeatedly with men (with women it was usually vanity, and Mnem was not ashamed to say that she had never been hesitant about using her own beauty to instigate massive inferiority complexes).
One of these days she was going to need to write a song about daddy issues and sing it to every whiny, insecure man she had ever slept with.
She didn't really want to believe this of Darrien, however. It would make him so much less interesting, and Mnem despised dull people. She gave the canine her full attention and her smile an inviting slant.
"How long are you planning on being in the Capital, then, dear?"

“I am not quite sure really, it all depends on the account and what there is still to be done. All I really know is that I am to help with the finishing and closing of the account when that comes and then I am to go back home.”[/b] He replied to her question as he took notice of the dainty rolls of fish and rice in which he then picked up and placed it in his mouth. He wished his had hands to appear more elegant to Mnem, He had been watching her intently the entire time and he wished he had chosen the seat next to her or even across the way.
As he sat there and chewed the bite-sized morsel in his mouth he suddenly wondered, what she would think of him if she saw him covered in dirt from being at the job site. He sincerely hoped that he would just be a supervisor and not too much manual labor would be involved though he had a feeling that was not going to be the case.

Shinrai was silent as the others talked, instead trying the foods before him tentatively. He enjoyed wot he’d had thus far, but he simply didn’t trust Minh and Mnem’s sense of humour to be fully secure in this new venture. He rather expected to be mocked at any moment, but, for now, Mnem seemed to set on convincing Darrien that she was a safe and wholesome influence. He gave a mental sigh as he ate something with cucumber in the middle. Until he had some proof of wot had happened, he needed to be more judicious in his words, though the whole situation still bit. Hard.
He sent Minh a swift, sidelong glance and tried for innocuous topics even as he eavesdropped on the other pair’s conversation. ”You know a great deal about sushi.” With anyone else it would have been a compliment; with the feline the best he could do was outright neutrality. Point for him. ”Do you two often come here?”
