[ooc: I realized that I haven't played with the person who referred me yet. <3] Heilyn was being lazy today. Well, no, she'd been very productive all week. Today was well-deserved rest. She'd been told of a public park with a public rose garden and decided to go look. Parents directed their children away and a group of young adults paused their game of extreme frisbee to stare and point as she passed. Heilyn was used to it by now, so it didn't bother her. They were all out to get her, she knew it. They just didn't want to bite her 'cuz she tasted bad. However, she'd made an acquaintance or two in her time here in the Capital and when she saw one, he even nodded! Things were looking up, even her paranoia eased itself a little. They would get used to the Bog residents. (then maybe they would stop trying to get her!) She went past the main area straight for the flowers. Her eyes went wide with OMG LOOKIT ALL THA FLOWERS!!! OOOO: Breeds she'd never seen or could even conceive with her imagination displayed themselves in full bloom before her. The roses were especially lovely. When she'd heard of them, a flower that grew on a thorny bush, she thought of the little bramble flowers she had back home. They were nothing like this... She walked very, very slowly, taking in everything. She decided then she would spend all day here.

It was, in fact, a beautiful day. The bipedal sparrow was having trouble truely accepting this fact, however, mind filled with a dull sort of worry. She had walked to the park and was pacing anxiously up and down the trails, looking as if she was in a completely different world. She was a seeming study in contrasts to the strange canine who was her only company here. Finally, her twitterpated movements began to calm, and she actually smiled as she glanced down at the roses. She had never been to the Court of Hearts, and in a way she doubted that she ever would. But how she wished that she could see those gardens... It was the scent of blossoms in the air that soothed her, their fragrance light and reminding her, in a way, of a tea she had sipped at long ago. She slowly sat on a bench next to a large rosebush, one that was particuarly nice-smelling, and closed her eyes. She needed a vacation. Much calmed by her surroundings, the sparrow opened her eyes again and glanced around, her eyes falling on the strange coyote. What on earth was that...?

She was so relaxed that even her ears started to unflatten themselves from her head. She saw a particularly fat bumblebee vigorously wiggling itself, trying to get deeper into a flower. Her tail gave a tiny twitch of a wag as the pollen-covered lump with wings back out and fly to the next flower. It made a circle around Heilyn's head before making it to the next flower. Her tail gave a slightly larger twitch in joy. Good little bees. Nearby there was a brightly colored creature with wings disproportionally large to its body. This was new. Heilyn was familiar with moths, but butterflies were too delicate for the Bog and were extremely rare. Disappointed with the lack of dragonflies in the area, she turned her attention to the butterfly. Like everything else, the colors and patterns of the residents here were completely different. Pushing her luck, she inched closer to the bug. She could see the scales on the wings before it decided Heilyn had worn out her welcome and flew off.
She was becoming out right giddy now. She couldn't remember the last time she had a whole day to herself with literally nothing she HAD to do. This fact was just beginning to settle. Elated, she began chasing the butterfly. No responsibilities all day! If anyone bothered her for anything, unless the tea shop was burning down, she could tell them to sod off. In fact, she wished someone would bother her with something to do so she could! Oh, frabjous day!
...there was someone watching her...
She stopped and stared at the sparrow giving her a look. The mixture of the sparrow's stress and her curiosity made said look a bit hard to read for Heilyn. She cleared her throat and pretended that she never took part in any such childish antics as harassing a butterfly and continued looking at flowers. Maybe if I ignore her, she'll go away, she thought, a little embarrassed.

Ceren, of course, was witness to the coyote's show, and she felt a smile starting to twitch at the corners of her beak. This was the strangest person that she had ever seen, and they were acting like a complete fool in front of everyone in the park.
A quick glance around told the sparrow that she was actually everyone in the park, and that feeling of gloom that she had carried in with her descended once more. Sights like that were made to be shared, and if the only ones who knew what had happened were herself and the strange canine... Well. There really was no fun in that. Her face fell back into its previous and unreadable expression just as the coyote turned to look at her.
Ceren blinked as the other began to stare, then just as suddenly acted as though the sparrow didn't exist. There were a number of things that it would be easy for her to say at this point, but she just didn't feel like being mean and so she cleared her throat. "I like it here, too.[/b]"

[I'm just going to take the liberty of placing this after 'Strange Sight', if that's ok. If not, just let me know and I'll change my response, no problem. :3 ]
The coyote's entire body gave a twitch when the bird spoke to her. Crap. She turned her head to look at the bird behind her. Ignoring other people didn't make them disappear. What a shame. Ah, well. Her right ear twitched.
"I, uh," I should probably be nice, she thought, I'm really not in much of a condition to fight should she get aggressive. She'd mostly healed from the fight with that Solandrian, but in the numbing cold, she'd twisted an ankle and hadn't realized it until later. It acted up from time to time, and after chasing the butterfly gave Heilyn the tiniest of reminders of the events of really freakish day it snowed (but the flowers survived the frost, thanks to the excellent care the city provided this garden). "I like it here, too. It's my first time here..." She didn't say nothing else to be rude or short. She just honestly had no idea what else to say to a complete stranger besides their mutual like of flowers.

Though she shared Heilyn's sentiment in regards to the garden, Ceren couldn't help but be completely puzzled by the extent of the coyote's fascination in it. Whereas most regarded it as a place to relax, Heilyn was treating it as if it was some kind of oddity. The sparrow wondered to herself where on earth the strange canine was from. Though she could clearly see the red Heart on her breast, it was as if she had never seen a rose before! Curious.
"I've been coming here since I was a little girl.[/b]" she remarked, nodding to the coyote's statement. Whenever her family had come here, she had spent the day in amongst the bright flowers, marvelling in them. When they had moved, she usually came here whenever there was something on her mind, as there was now. "Out of curiosity, have you been in the Capital for long?[/b]" She asked simply because as far as she had known, one of the first things that people did when they arrived here was visit the gardens. She could be wrong, of course, but that seemed rather unlikely. She prided herself on knowing things like this, it was true. Sometimes, she was just too nice for her own good, but the coyote was a female and that helped to net her the sparrow's good graces.

Her signature subconscious habit of her right ear twitching occurred once more. People she didn't know asking her questions made her feel odd, even if they were as innocent as the one just now presented.
"Not long... about a week and a half," she answered, turning back to the flowers. She thought of the love of flowers the people had back home, and how they would crap kittens if they saw this. She thought of how much a single rose would go for, imported to the Bog. When trade routes open up, I'll have to keep an eye on dealers to protect against ridiculous pricing. Another bee passed by her head. She watched a flower sag under its weight as it landed and gave another single wag of her tail. Bees are awesome. They make more flowers happen, and these bees were nicer than the ones in the Bog.
"You were born in this city, I take it?" The sparrow seemed nice enough, and Heilyn had just realized she was of Selkie blood, so even if she did get mad, she'd probably be too lazy to act on it. This was as good a time as any to work on something called 'people skills' that Miss Amethyst kept harping on about. Well, let's see how great it is.

In a similar subconscious presentation of her inner turmoil, the sparrow's tail fanned briefly, displaying its vivid blues to the world for just a moment. Being nice to people wasn't at all what she was used to, but if she was serious about gaining a position in the courts... She would need to gain some "people skills", as her father called them.
Her brother, of course, would tell her that she wouldn't know people skills if they walked up and slapped her ass. She, as always, would prove him wrong. It was her duty in life, as it were.
Ceren nodded to herself as she listened to the other speak, looking the coyote over once again. She had seen a number of strange mixes, but... No one who looked like the Heart that sat before her. At first glance she had seen the canine to be ugly and dull, but a closer look revealed colors that rippled and shone like an oil slick. It was strangely beautiful. Judging from the way that she had been acting... She had never seen anything like this. Her curiosity in the Bog dweller was matched only by the Bog dweller's curiosity in that fat little bee.
"I grew up in the Forest of Kahmden, actually.[/b]" the sparrow replied. "Moved here when I was about seven. My mom wanted to live closer to my dad, and he works here.[/b]" she chuckled. Sex was a strong motivator, that was for sure. She hadn't minded the move in the slightest, for whatever the reason her mother had decided on it - the Forest was a damnably boring place. "If you don't mind my asking, where are you from originally? I've never seen someone who looks like you do.[/b]"
Ahh, Ceren. Ever blunt and tactless.

Forest of Kahmden? Interesting. She had the markings of someone from the Selkie Lakes. Well, she probably had a very interesting pair of parents, or she was a liar. She was probably a liar. However, considering she would probably never see her again, it didn't matter. In fact, it might be fun to see how far I can push the little, lie. See if she slips up.
"I am from the Raemblen Bog. I wouldn't be offended if you've never heard of it, we've only made ourselves known and been making contact with the outsi--here until very recently. Establishing trade and recognition by the courts. We might eventually work in these courts, but I doubt they'll trust us just yet." She scratched under her arm and the membrane that decorated it, "So, Kahmden, huh? Is it as dull as they say it is?" Well, if she did actually enjoy living there and gets offended, watching her storm off should be amusing.

Ceren leaned back, her hair falling into her face, expression thoughtful for a moment as she considered the coyote's words. There were so many reasons for a person to leave their homelands, and the canine's answer did nothing to calm the sparrow's curiosity. With any luck, she would have her answers soon enough. A short breath served to push the offending strands of hair away from her face and eyes once more. It wasn't her place to intrude, but she just couldn't help herself.
A small sparkle of curiosity shone in her eye. Trade, eh? That was very interesting indeed. Perhaps she could manage to make her father proud in more than one way... "Trade, you say? Interesting... My father actually runs a fairly well-known shipping firm, if you're looking for something.[/b]" Hey, it was worth a shot!
Heilyn's words drew a short laugh from the sparrow, and she grinned. "I promise you,[/b]" she replied, shaking her head slowly. "Whatever you've heard, it's worse. I felt like I would die if I had to stay there another moment. I was actually considering moving in with my father. Even the Lakes would be better.[/b]" So, strange family was the answer of the day.
