Kelasia's outburst confirmed Calia's thoughts, but her sudden panic was not at all what Calia had hoped for. She knew instantly that Kelasia had never told Theofilus about the way that she felt, and that she had likely misinterperted the man's actions. Her motherly nature kicked in and she reached out to take the other woman's hand in her own, a gesture which she hoped could be seen as being soothing. She shook her head a little sadly, looking down at the bed while she struggled to find the words for what she was trying to say.
"I'm... I'm not mad at you. I'm not even really that angry with him.[/b]" she was still smiling sadly, looking at the blanket that was between the two. "I feel that I've done something horrible.[/b]" I wish I had stayed late. Oh, god, why didn't I stay late? Her heart was thudding deep in her chest, as if screaming at her, asking why her brain was betraying it so horribly. If she continued this madness - He was hers first! They had children... But she continued on, unable to leave without trying to sort at least this out. She straightened, shook her head slightly to clear her jumbled mind, and let out a quiet sigh.
"Kelasia, you need to tell him how you feel.[/b]" the sparrow murmured quietly, reassuringly. She had seen the way that Theofilus had looked at the other woman, and there was a softness in his gaze that she had only seen directed to herself before. It pained her to see, but it was that gaze that told her everything. "He... he called you his family. That means that you're extremely important to him, more than a friend. I wouldn't be surprised if he never told you more because he was afraid of pushing you away or losing you. Please, you need to tell him.[/b]" she laughed softly, her tears beginning to fall again. Here she was, telling another woman how to gain the love of the man she herself loved.

Just... hit me in the face with a brick. Was all Theofilus could think as he cradled the boy. The women had just run off, Zane was still standing their in shock, and poor Eilwyn was still crying. Okay, he had to fix this. "Zane, explain everything you can." Theofilus said in his fatherly tone as he let Eilwyn cry in his arms. He looked around for something to comfort the boy. Not like he kept twigs and stones inside the firm. GAH.
"The landlord was helping me with dinner and he said that your weren't Eilwyn's father when I left the room! He said something about his mother not coming back. I tried to get him to calm down but he honestly thought something happened to you!" Zane almost whimpered. Apparently he had interrupted some other drama. This was some fantastic situation.
Theofilus made note that he had to punch the Landlord in the face upon his return. Man deserved it for doing this to Eilwyn. "Oh Eilwyn, I'm here! You don't have to worry, I'll always be here for you!"
There was a small break in crying as the child struggled to speak. "B-b-but he said you weren't--" and the boy fell into another fit of tears.
The Lakeland sparrow sighed. He could use his magic to solve this situation, but that would hardly be right. Unfortunately the other drama had to wait while he solved this. In a sweeping motion he sat down on the floor with the boy and wiped his tears away. "Eilwyn, I'm here. I'm sorry Mommy isn't here, she's still on a trip. If you calm down I can let you meet some of her friends and mine. Does that sound good?"
The boy continued to sob. Squinting at his Dad all the while. He was here and he said Mommy was coming. He blinked a few times when he saw Zane hand him small leaf. Eilwyn took this as a sign that he should turn it into a glass figure then. It didn't take him long, as he made it look like his mother, or at least as close as he could get. He was still sobbing as he sudden flung himself into Theofilus' arms again. "Daddy!"
Theofilus hugged the boy tightly as he picked him up once again. He looked towards the entry way to the upstairs. Should he go? Was he even capable of fixing things? He walked to the door frame and hesitated. He would wait just a bit longer until Eilwyn was completely settled.

”No, I couldn’t!” the skunk gasped, shocked into staring up at the beautiful, sad face of the Forest of Kahmden avian. ”Not when he has you, not when you’ve already had…” the words trailed off as she fought back her urge to sob again. She turned her head away, eyes closed tightly as though that could push away her inner turmoil. She didn’t seem to realize that Calia was trying to encourage her whilst discouraging herself.
”I swear, I didn’t realize he had someone already,” Kel pushed the words out. ”I wouldn’t have stayed, I promise. I’ll leave now if you want me to…” But her voice still gave away the fact that she didn’t want to go.
Oh, how was she going to live now? Where would she go? She couldn’t go back to the Range! She didn’t want to live with her mother again, not after the lovely freedom she had experienced here! Maybe she could find Minh and Mnem and stay with them for awhile?

Calia knew in an instant that she had to be very careful how she spoke. Her entire world was balanced now, and she knew that even if she encouraged the skunk to leave and never look back, things with Theofilus would not return to the way they had been. She couldn't quite wipe the sadness from her face, but as the skunk withdrew once more, she reached out to embrace the other woman, hugging her tightly. "I love him, Kelasia, but...[/b]" the sparrow choked on a quiet sob, then pulled away, looking into her eyes with a startling honesty. "..he loves you.[/b]" she was barely able to say those words, but she gave the other woman a small smile as she once again retreated to a safer distance.
Her mind was screaming. What was she doing?!
What's right.
She shook her head slowly, then pried her gaze off the bed and looked back to the skunk. She was a beautiful woman, but it was obvious she couldn't recognize it. That was a tragedy. "You have as much right as I do to stay here. In fact,[/b]" the sparrow shuffled her feathers slightly, a sign of mild discomfort. "I'd almost say you have more right to be here than I do. And... Theofilus would never forgive me if I let you leave.[/b]"
She was silent once more, hands folded in her lap. She ran the fingers of one hand across those of the other, eyes locked on the small movement. "We... We should probably go downstairs again and make sure he's alright. We have a lot to talk about. Together.[/b]"

The beautiful bird was confusing the blue skunk beyond comprehension and she responded to the hug by clinging slightly before reluctantly letting go when Calia pulled away. Her mind was functioning right anymore, not with the avian’s words flushing through in a crazy swirl of excitement, fear, sadness, and joy. She didn’t know wot to feel, wot to think, even if she didn’t think the other woman was right. She couldn’t face Theofilus… not yet… Not until the two women figured out some sort of compromise or understanding between them.
”He can’t love me,” the skunk finally argued softly, pale eyes going uneasily to the other woman’s face. ”He’s already chosen you.” Her gaze dropped away, unable to keep eye contact. ”His children mean everything to him… and you’re their mother. She wasn’t really –hurt- that Calia was the mother of Theofilus’ children, simply shocked. All of her pain originated around the fact that she couldn’t be wot Theofilus wanted, she couldn’t be his and he couldn’t be hers. Her eyes closed briefly as she fought down the new swarm of pain.

Calia knew almost instantly that hugging the skunk was the best course of action that she could possibly have taken at that point. It had settled her nerves slightly, and she felt that it had bridged at least some of the distance between them. She reached up slowly, wiping the few tears that still stained her feathers. It was indeed a confusing situation, and she still wasn't entirely sure of it herself. She recognized, however, that it was important that she and the skunk settle some things between themselves before facing the man who had so utterly claimed both of their hearts.
She listened closely to what she felt was getting to be the last of Kelasia's arguments carefully, running the words through her mind slowly. There was always an answer or a solution, and as she thought the situation over and over in her mind. As a realization struck her, she let out a short laugh that sounded almost like a cough and could be interperted as such, if not for the way the corners of her eyes turned up. "Honestly, Kelasia? I don't think he's chosen anything, or at least he doesn't realize he has.[/b]" she couldn't help but grin slightly. She loved him, it was true, but when they'd met... He'd had less of an idea about how to act around women than almost any man she'd ever met. "He's... not the best with these situations,[/b]" the sparrow summed up succinctly.
Calia met the other woman's eyes, the sadness still evident in her own, but much lest present now. "His children... are his family. His family means everything to him, Kelasia.[/b]" she smiled at the skunk then, beginning to see a kind of kinship between the two. "You and I are also his family. As conflicted as we are... Imagine how he must feel.[/b]"

Theofilus patted Eilwyn as he slowly stopped crying, he was still sobbing, but there wasn't much Theofilus could do about that. He looked back to Zane and said, "I'm going to go upstairs. Just wait down here, all right?"
Zane nodded, "Okay Dad." He really wasn't sure what to do. Obviously his Dad was stressed to a new point or at least he had never seen him like this before. Dad was good at hiding things, but all the cracks were showing today. What did it have to do with Mom and Miss Kelasia? He raised an eyebrow at the thought.
Theofilus didn't wait for his son to respond. He had already slipped the door open and was heading up the stairs against his better judgment. Was he allowed to make a lapse of judgment every once in a while? He reached the door in seemingly slow motion, Eilwyn still in his arms. He knocked with his free hand softly.
"Is everything all right in there? Eilwyn and I are a bit worried about you." A bit was an understatement.
The small boy perked up at the mention of his name. He squeezed just a bit tighter. His Daddy was okay then? He wasn't gone and he wouldn't leave then? He snuggled into the feathers. He missed his Mommy too much. When was she going to find them? He felt his Dad's hand brush him lightly on the head. It was a small comfort as Eilwyn fiddle with the small figure again. He almost wanted to cry again... but Daddy was here and didn't he say something about Mommy's friends? He looked towards Theofilus curiously. Something was wrong with his Dad's face. "Daddy are you okay?"
Theofilus blinked and looked and the boy in his arms. Was his worry really that apparent? "Yes, of course I am." He smiled. He really needed to stop lying to make people feel better.

It wasn’t logical at all, but somehow it did make sense. Kelasia sniffed slightly herself, trying to push away her further desire to wail and sob. It wasn’t fair to this lovely woman, nor was it fair to the man downstairs. No, she needed to get herself together and try to understand. And Calia was, of course, correct about Theofilus’ feelings; he must be beating himself silly over her stupid outburst. No, deep breaths, it would be all righ—
"Is everything all right in there? Eilwyn and I are a bit worried about you."
The skunk froze at the sound of the man’s voice and she sent Calia a brief, almost hopeless look; in that instant it was as though the other woman turned from a rival to a co-conspirator. Kel was unwilling to hurt Theofilus, no matter the cost to herself, but she wasn’t certain she could lie well enough to convince him. Perhaps a semi-truth would cover it well enough? Her mind went blank and she could think of nothing to say.

Oh. Well, then. It seemed as if the time for the two women to talk alone had run out, and sensing Kelasia's anxiety about what was sure to come, she reached out and gave her one last hug, tight and reassuring. "I'd like to meet with you another time, Kelasia. Hopefully under slightly better circumstances,[/b]" she whispered, genuinely interested in getting to know the blue skunk. She was an interesting and shy woman, but she had a streak of kindness that the sparrow could see from a mile away. And... If she had gained Theofilus's attention, Calia was sure the two could grow to be friends.
"For your poor heart's sake, please tell him the truth.[/b]" she added almsot as an afterthought, breaking out of the hug and offering the skunk a small smile. It hurt to tell her to do this. God, it hurt more than anything Calia had ever done, but she felt confident now that things would be alright.
She broke away, looking to the door and taking a single deep breath. "We're quite alright, boys, just having a little chat.[/b]" her voice wavered slightly, but was, for the most part, strong and confident. She looked over at Kelasia once more, nodding to warn her of the fact that things needed to happen now. She couldn't help but feel a kinship with the other woman. On slightly shakey legs, she rose and opened the door. "You must be Eilwyn,[/b]" she commented, giving the eagle a smile and dropping to her knees to bring herself to eye level with the younger card. "I'm sorry I ran out so quickly before. My name's Calia.[/b]"
