Theofilus blinked in surprise as the door opened with a swift click. He watched as Calia made the motions and said her piece. He knew that the crisis was hardly averted, but at least the tension was released a fraction of a bit.
Eilwyn tilted his head curiously at the lady in front of him. He wasn't quite sure what to say to the greeting. Daddy did say that she was a friend... so he should be nice to her. What was a proper greeting? She already knew his name so.... um? "Hi!" He said with an almost-but-not-quite chirp. Zane had taught him how to chirp, but he still hadn't gotten it right. He looked at her with wide eyes, tears still stained his feathers, and he still clutched the small glass figurine. "Er... Calia." he added as he snuggled a bit closer to his Daddy.
How adorable. Theofilus grinned down at him, even if he couldn't see it. "And that lovely lady is Kelasia," Theofilus pointed with his free hand.
"Hi to you too!" Eilwyn waved. If Daddy thought they were okay, then there was no reason to be afraid.
Meanwhile Zane sat downstairs looking at the door his father and adopted brother had passed through. It felt like forever since they left. What, was everyone eaten by bears or something? He gave a worried noise as he sat down behind the counter. Waiting. He would Wait.

Kel didn’t want the hug to end; not when it was one of the few real touch interactions she had with anyone, and certainly not when it made her feel so much better to hug the other woman. Still, when Theo came in, it would not do to have him really understand just upset both women were. She gave Calia a sad, negative shake of her head; she’d much rather have a broken heart than chance upsetting Theofilus further. He’d already be very worried due to her earlier escape from the room.
She forced her own smile for the small child, something that was actually fairly easy to do with his adorable greetings. ”Hello, Eilwyn; it’s nice to finally get to meet you. Your father is very pleased to have you.” Despite the trouble, the correct word though not the right sense, brought out by the boy’s addition to Theo’s family, everyone was well aware of just how much Eilwyn already meant to the avian.

Eilwyn tilted his head at the skunk. What did she mean? He looked back to his Daddy for conformation, but he still had a confused look on his face. "Thank you?" Eilwyn asked. He didn't know what was the Right Answer, he really didn't have experience with this sort of thing.
Theofilus wasn't quite sure how to react to any of this either. He knew there was still the problem of the two women, but Eilwyn was still... a little unstable. He had to take care of the boy before anything else. He gave a weak smile to both of the women. "Shall we find a more comfortable place to discuss the matters at hand? Or should we let Zane wonder what's happening?" His son could easily take care of himself, however, leaving him in the dark downstairs was probably a bad idea.
"Daddy?" Eilwyn tugged on his feathers lightly. "Can I have something to eat?"
Oh right. They ran out while they were having dinner. "Of course you can." The sparrow looked back to the ladies with a smile, "I'm going to get Eilwyn some food and I'll meet you back downstairs?"

"It's wonderful to finally meet you, Eilwyn.[/b]" Calia murmured with a smile, standing slowly and looking into the eyes of the other sparrow. Her son... She couldn't imagine how he'd take the news. She was still unsure of how to take it, and at least she felt some kind of kinship with the other woman. Zane had always seemed to have a very strong sense of what was proper, and Calia had no idea what he would think of the current situation.
Theofilus had enough on his plate without their children being upset with him. Calia herself was having trouble dealing with the situation, and as much as she wanted to be angry with the Lakeland sparrow... Every time she looked at him, her heart still seemed to skip a beat.
She'd never asked to fall so very deeply in love.
"I'll go and speak with Zane while you get him something to eat.[/b]" she finally replied, her first words spoken directly to Theofilus since her chat with Kelasia. She glanced for a moment at the other woman, giving her an encouraging smile. "We'll meet you downstairs. Then, once the boys are settled... We can have a long talk.[/b]"
Wow. Those words sounded surprisingly forboding, especially coming from the gentle sparrow.

"I went shopping yesterday," Kel said quietly, though that action was actually very peculiar for her; Rogers almost always saw to stocking the small kitchen here on the second floor. While Kel knew most of the mechanics of cooking, she preferred baking and there was no oven in the small overhead apartment. All that meant was that she ate out more than anything else. "I'll help you get Eilwyn something."
The skunk glanced over at the beautiful sparrow woman before nodding and letting her eyes drop to the floor. They had a great deal to discuss and Kel doubted either of them would be overly pleased by wot they said.
"So, Eilwyn," the skunk looked to the boy and smiled, Diamond charm coming out to enfuse her words with real warmth. She was getting better at using the ability and the practice was not pleasant. "Wot kind of food do you like?" She hoped she could help the boy understand just how much he was loved here.

"I'm sure Zane is worried," Theofilus smiled at Calia. This was going to be a horrible mess wasn't it? What had he gotten himself into? The sparrow returned his attention to Eilwyn, and Kelasia when she offered to help them find food.
Eilwyn wasn't sure what to do with all of this attention. He hid in Theofilus feathers, peaking out with one eye at Kelasia. "I don't know," he squeaked before hiding again. He really didn't know if this many people were a good thing or not. Daddy had said that they were his friends but... were they good friends? Things didn't seem to be going "good" with the way Daddy was acting.
"How about a roast beef sandwich?" Theofilus suggested and glance at Kelasia for conformation that they had the proper makings of one. He knew that Eilwyn would eat it, since it seemed to be something he could easily stomach. He was still sensitive after all of the doctor's treatments.
Meanwhile Zane waited downstairs with wide eyes. As soon as he saw his mother appear he let out a slight chirp. "Mom! What's going on? What's happening?"

"I'll go check on him,[/b]" she replied to Theofilus, glancing at Kelasia. Calia placed one hand on the skunk's back, giving her a small smile that did not quite manage to reach her eyes. It would be okay, eventually, someday. Everything would fall into place, she was sure of it. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but they were all adults and they were intelligent.
Of course, intelligence usually was little help when it came to matters of the heart, but the sparrow couldn't help but feel at least a little confident. She didn't want to see any more sad faces - it went completely against her nature.
She walked downstairs slowly, looking at her feet as she placed one in front of the other on the stairs. At Zane's chirp, her head snapped up and she let out a soft chirp of her own. She was starting to tremble again, and she walked over to her son. "Zane... Honey, I don't know what's happening. I know that Kelasia is in love with your father, and...[/b]" her voice trailed off, trembling. She just couldn't bring herself to say it. She collapsed into the chair near Zane and lowered her head into her hands. "But it'll be okay. I promise.[/b]"

The skunk's smile back to Calia was just as soft and just as sad. Her thoughts would run parallel to the beautiful bird's but she refused to let her mind follow that route.
Kelasia tilted her head thoughtfully and tried to remember wot all she'd purchased. She'd bought turkey, but she was fairly certain that they still had some roast beef from the other day when Rogers had brought back some groceries.
"We should have some roast beef left," she said quietly. "And I know we have some turkey." She led the way out of her room and down the short hallway to the kitchen. She gently asked Eilwyn about his sandwich preferences, soberly, yet with a gentle smile, waiting for his prefences before making the desired sandwich.
She was super pleased to do something for the little boy; he was heart-wrenching and adorable mixed up into one being.

Theofilus sighed when Eilwyn clung on to him tighter. Apparently he was still unsure of this whole ordeal. The sparrow patted him lightly to remind him that he was safe here. The little eagle gave him a worried look before talking to Kelasia.
"Roast beef, I don't really like turkey. It tastes funny." He imagined that it wasn't all that funny tasting coming from here but he didn't want to push his luck. Things were different here in the "city." Clean water, unspoiled food, and all of that stuff he never had before. The little eagle still didn't quite understand all of it and how it was possible.
--
Zane blinked slowly staring at his mother. Miss Kelasia was in love with dad and... oh dear. Dad must have returned the love then? What was going on? Why was he so bad at all of this.
"I think everything is going to be fine mom. Dad would crush himself if he ever let us down. I doubt he would break any of our hearts. He can solve this. Don't worry, Mom!" Zane said choking back his own fear. The idea of his family falling apart was terrifying. It wouldn't happen. It just wouldn't.
