Entering the small shop, he closed the door gently behind him. The instant warmth that the room offered was a blessing. Unbuttoning his cloak some, he grinned at her reaction of realizing who he was. It really had been a while.
“Good morning and thank you. It really has been a long time, Miss Ada, I am surprised that you recognized me. I hope that you have been doing well.” He made his way through the room in bipedal form, making sure that he did not knock anything over.
“And one of your pastries would be lovely,” he said as he took a seat at the counter where she stood. When he noticed that she looked at his Tove, he replied “This here is Juris.”
He was in no real hurry to get home – especially since his family did not know he was going to be coming this morning. It really had been a long time and a lot about him, and everyone else, had changed a lot.

The crow watched him transformed and laughed, though cackled would perhaps be a better description of the sound. She was an elderly crow, after all. "I can see that, my boy! My, just look at you, a biped with a familiar despite your suit... moving up in the world, oh yes, you young people are the reason I wake to see the morning."
She shuffled over towards the open oven and grasped a pair of thick oven mitts, pulling the pastries from the rack and placing them on a lower one to cool, no longer exposed to the fire. "They'll just be a few minutes, just need to cool off so that the glaze doesn't burn your fingers. Not that you aren't used to that, from what I recall." She laughed again good naturedly, remembering his hands and why he kept them gloved.
"So tell me, what brings you back to town, hmm? Visiting your family?"

The smell of the pastries made his mouth water, regardless of the fact that he had already eaten. He had always enjoyed Ada’s pastries and the smell of the store and food brought back happier memories.
“My older brother wanted my presence here this winter. I am not sure why, yet.” He reached for one of the pastries, ignoring her comment about their being hot. It was true that it was not something he was not used to. He had discovered this blessing with his hands soon after meeting Ada – he always got first pick.
“Have you seen or heard that Mick is back in town, as well?” He was curious to see if she knew anything about Mick and his mother being back. He was sure that she would remember him, especially since she had remembered him. Taking a bite of the pastry he sighed in pleasure. These were the things he had missed.

"Ahh yes, your brother," the elderly crow replied with a thoughtful expression. "Never quite so pleasant as you, but then again, he didn't get into nearly so much trouble either." She cackled again at the memory, but it trailed off rather abruptly at his next question.
She shifted, feathers ruffling a bit, and glanced reflexively at the door. "Well, my my. I forgot you two had been friends once upon a time. Funny thing you should ask about that, dear, at a time like this. I imagine we'll both be hearing a lot more about that one tomorrow, if the rumors hold true." She clicked her beak a few times in an unsettled gesture before settling her feathers and waving her wing dismissively. "Oh well, let's just hope all of that's a load of rubbish. I wouldn't wish to think ill of people, especially not when they haven't done anything yet. Are you enjoying your pastry, dearie?"

Now that was interesting. She was the second or third person to mention something suspicious about what was happening at Mick’s house. His fear that he was trying to squash was trying to raise itself some, which he quickly squashed. Rumors only hurt more then they hold truth he reminded himself.
“This pastry is holding up better then my memories. He held up the pasty as if he was saluting her with it, bringing himself back to the present.
They continued to talk for a while longer, discussing memories of how things used to be in the small town, scooting around some of the less than happy ones. There were some things that even Miss Ada did not know about his past. When it seemed that it was closer to noon, he said his good-byes deciding that he needed to continue on his way home.
“Take care of yourself now. Come by anytime for some pastries, dear. I will always be glad to have ya.” The crow said in parting, waving from the door.
“Thank you kindly, Miss Ada.” He nodded, tilting his hat. “Come, Juris, let’s go visit ‘Big Brother.” The last part came out a little sarcastically, which the crow only grinned a little to.
Turning back onto the main street he made his way back ‘home’.
~~
“It is about time that you headed home, brother.” Jaiden greeted him as he entered the small house on the end of the street.
The red mouse tried not to grown in hatred. He kept forgetting just how much he hated this house and all of its occupants. Well that was except for the one that was now long gone.
“Hello, dear brother.” He replied back, keeping his tone emotionless. It would do him not good to show his disgust. All he could hope for was that the time would go by quickly.
~~
It was getting closer to sunset and after a long confrontation he had finally been able to make his way out of the house. He was about ready for anything rather then to have to deal with his family for a moment longer. Shivering once again, Oh how he hated the cold, he made his way back towards Mick’s in a grumpy mood.

No one disturbed Aderlass as he made his way through the streets in the early evening, most people more concerned with their own business than anyone else's so close to 'closing time'. When he finally made it back to Mick's house, the canine himself was out in the yard running laps, yipping every now and then and obviously trying to dispell energy. His tongue lolled from the side of his mouth and he panted excitedly, just... running in large circles.
His mother sat on the stoop, watching him silently. Something about her body just seemed almost 'drooping', as if she was exhausted or worried or both. Evidently their 'practice' had let out for the day.
Mick stopped in his tracks as soon as he caught sight of Aderlass and yipped three times in rapid succession, zooming over until he could put on the breaks and screech to a halt right in front of the mouse. "I have so much ENERGY!" he panted, beaming.

He hated his brother even more for what he had just done - again. He had never listened to his a child so he was not sure why he had thought that might have changed in him.
Walking slowly, head turned down in defeat, he almost passed up his friends house until he heard three familiar yips. He snapped his head up, plastering a fake smile on his face, trying to keep the pain oblivious to the pup he turned his attention to him.
“Looks like your practice went well.” He eyed Miss Eva seeing how drained she looked. He was always amazed with how much she could put up with in the pup, thought it was her little baby. “Why are you so energized, Mick? Or should I ask – When are you not energized?” He chuckled as he watched him; Mick had never ceased to amaze him with his energy level.

Mick yipped a few more times in agreement and actually started jumping, springing up a few feet with each bounce. "Yes! Yesyesyesyes, practice went great! Mom fed me lots of yummy food and helped balance the flow of my energy and all that stuff, and I just feel like a million bajillion bucks!" He stopped bouncing and nearly vibrated in place, he was so hyper.
Eva moved away from the stoop and offered Aderlass a small, exhausted smile. "Dinner's in the oven right now. It should be ready in perhaps twenty minutes or so. You're of course welcome to stay the night again, but when tomorrow comes, I'm going to have to ask you to visit your family or whatever else it is you'll need to do. This is an important family event, after all, and I need to be able to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. It simply wouldn't do to have any mistakes." A brief flicker of worry flashed across her face before smoothing back into tired pleasure, perhaps a small reminder of the rumors some of the townsfolk had been spreading about the family.
"Don't worry, I'll be sure to find you afterwards," the pup told his friend with a grin. His mother just gave him a sad, worried smile.

“It’s understood, Miss Eva. I will make myself scarce; you do not have to worry.” He nodded. She looked extremely tired from her day spent with the pup. “Just let me know if there is anything I can do to help, okay?” He offered. He did not want to be too much of a burden for her. He was not sure what he would do tomorrow. He could take a nice long walk, anything really to stay away from his house.
Turning his attention back to the Pomeranian he watched as the pup bounced up and down, seemingly having fun. “Why do we not go do something fun?” He asked the bouncing fluff.
He figured something to distract him would do him well, and there had to be no harm in allowing his friend to burn off some energy.
“I am sure you will find me.” He chuckled at the thoughts that came to mind. Mick was sure to find him, all the while scaring off all the birds and wild life within twelve miles.
