Eilwyn flinched at the touch. He blinked away a few of the tears and backed up in his seat a little. There was very much a paw on his hand. And Eilwyn was sure that anyone in his head would have gotten his name right. That bit made sense.
That and there weren't be people stirring around him. Whispers were a lot louder when your hearing made up for your lack of sight. The eagle gave a dismayed chirp as he heard the waitress walk over. He knew from the sound of her voice she was on the brick of a break down.
"Eilwyn, I know you don't have magic like that. What's going on?" Worry was seeping out of her voice as she stood next to him, placing a hand on Eilwyn's. Wait... her hand was hovering?
She screamed, which caused Eilwyn to fall out of his chair. Fern, true to her nature, leaped at the girl's legs and gave them a nice and proper retribution bite. The waitress let out another scream before running into the cafe.
Eilwyn was still crying. He couldn't understand what was going on. Had he done something wrong? Was there something wrong with Asher? What... oh no! Fern had bit someone hadn't she? The eagle, as carefully as he could brought Fern over to him and picked her up in his arms. With a bit of difficulty he stood up.
Miss Lorrie, however, stopped him by placing a hand on his shoulder. When she had appeared, the young eagle didn't know. "Eilwyn! What's going on here?"
"Asher.... did it?" Eilwyn offered with a whimper, "My friend Asher.... he.... he just wanted a drink and I...."
"Asher...?"

He gave her a frightful stare knowing that now that she had said his name she would ‘notice’ him. Sometimes that gave people more of a scare then their being oblivious to his presence.
He felt really bad that he was causing Eilwyn so much trouble. He really had not meant to scare him or anything. He kind of liked the eagle.
“It is . . . uh . . . okay, Eilywn. I will get your friend a drink. Okay? You sit right there and wait alright? Everything is fine.” She quickly scurried off.
“Eilywn, what is wrong? Please do not cry Eilwyn. I did not mean to frighten you! Please tell me what is wrong?!”
Maybe he should not have convinced the eagle to payback his small misfortune. It had all been his fault anyway. He knew he was invisible and so he should have been paying attention. If he had not been so caught up none of this would have happened. “If you want me to leave I can. You do not have to pay me back, it is okay.” He wondered if leaving would make things all better.

Eilwyn was crying into the bander's fur by the time Lorrie left. He squeezed Fern tightly, and she gave little protest. She was used to dealing with a frantic owner even if she had to remind him with a careful nip of her own. Not like Eilwyn even filched anymore. The bander wiggled a bit as the eagle loosened his grip.
Was that a hint of fear...? Why would a figment of his imagination be afraid?
Either way Eilwyn really wished Zane or Daddy were around. They could solve this problem rather quickly. They were good at things like this. He was really bad at them, which was so very obvious. He was helpless half the time.
All he needed to do was calm down. Just calm down and everything would be all right. He took a deep breathe before drying a bit of his tears on his snorting bander. "Sorry Fern," he muttered as he didn't bother to look up. He spoke in the bander's fur, but it was loud enough for Asher to here. "You can't be real if the waitress didn't see you. You must be in the head. I must be broken like some of the Lowlanders I used to see when I was a kid. That's why everyone is freaking out. You can't be real, but I felt you touch me. It doesn't make sense."

“But I am real. I promise, I swear! The reason you can not see me is because I am invisible! But you can touch me because I am still real” He tried to explain.
His condition had never been a major source of trouble, one he did not create on purpose anyway. His parents had always explained his situation when any of their friends would freak out.
He had never really had a friend before. It was kind of hard when they would either run away crying ghost or just run away crying. There were not many times that he had had purposeful interaction with anyone on his own either, and this apparently was the reason why.
“The waitress can see me now, I promise. Ask her when she gets back! I am not a Lowlander! I am a Morganberry and a Highlander!” The last part he said with slight anger though it was not pointed at him.

Oh.... well... that explained a lot didn't it? Invisible people weren't really that common place were they? Eilwyn looked up from his bander's fur, to Fern's great relief. Arguing with such logic wasn't something Eilwyn usually did. It sort of made sense.
"It doesn't matter if you're invisible or not. I can't see you. And you don't smell like a Lowlander. Rotting flesh really isn't something that you can over look when your nose compensates for your sight." Being blind had a lot of disadvantages, but his other senses did try to compensate for it.
He heard the glass placed on the table in front of him. Lorrie gave an unusual worried sounded that Eilwyn had never heard before. He wanted to ask her what was wrong, but judging from the sudden touch on his shoulder he didn't want to ask. "You're brother 'ill be here with one of the girls soon. You and your friend... um... can.. have the drink on the house. You too. Sorry Missy didn't believe you."
"Okay..." Eilwyn said. He really was still a tad lost on the whole issue. The whispers were louder than before when she walked away. Was this what it was like "making a scene." The eagle looked at where Asher's voice was, "I-I'm really sorry. I just... I just thought something really bad was happening. Daddy worries a lot and...I jumped to conclusions. I usually don't freak out like that. But... when my brother comes can you not talk? I don't want him to be scared or anything. This really is just my fault."

He was glad to see that the eagle was calmer. He was still concerned on setting off the male though, he really could not deal with it if the eagle started to cry and fret.
“I assure you that my flesh and fur is still attached where it is supposed to be. I am really sorry that I scared you. I did not mean to. I know that I am invisible by you react much differently then anyone else does.”. It did not occur to him that the eagle could mean anything else when he said that he could not see him.
“When your brother arrives I promise that I will remain silent. Are you sure you do not just want me to leave now? I do not want to cause this trouble for you.”
He was not sure how to handle the situation. The eagle had only been kind and he was causing so much trouble for the bird when he had apparently already been through something.

"No... Asher. I'm blind. I couldn't see you no matter what," The eagle sighed as he let go of Fern. The bander hopped out of his lap without protest, sitting down with a flop besides Eilwyn's feet. Another distressed chirp escaped Eilwyn as he heard a rushed set of foot steps hurry past him.
"You should at least enjoy your drink. Invisible or not I still tripped over you." Eilwyn felt around for one of the glasses. He wasn't good at being blind sometimes. If it didn't move or make a sound he had problems locating it. After another minute he found one of the glasses and pulled it towards him. "I really am sorry about all this."
It was all he really could say. He wasn't sure what to do in such a socially awkward situation. He didn't have that many friends, and he was generally bad at being constructive in situations that absolutely needed some sort of leader.

Blind? The male was blind? He was not completely sure what the word meant But it was a word that helped to define why the eagle reacted so differently to him
As he watched the male reach of his for his glass the realization for the word came to him. It was not that the eagle could not see him it was that the eagle could not see.
“I am sorry.” He whispered not meaning the fact that he had caused trouble, but over the matter of the male’s eye sight. He knew how hard it could be to want something and not be able to do anything about it. He was sure the eagle probably had the worse situation of both of them; at least others could see him and were not always freaking out when they sense his presence. He probably had more then just a mom and dad who cared for him.
He fell silent, not sure what else to say or how to handle the situation. He usually put on a happy face and some days he was happy he was invisible but other days it was a lonely existence. He took a sip from his drink.

That was a tone that he had heard all too often. It was pity. It was something that Dad would never admit to, Asha never had, and Zane knew how to hide. It was something that Eilwyn would never understand. Why did everyone pity him because he was blind? It was a simple matter that he couldn't see. It was frustrating. Not something they should feel sorry for.
It just made him tense.
The eagle slowly shook his head, "No.... please don't say that. Just don't say "sorry" anymore. It doesn't solve anything." Eilwyn sighed as he took the glass to his beak and drank. The water was cool and clean as it went down his throat. He could never appreciate it enough. He would never forget his mother, and he would never forget what happened. He really did miss her....
He set his glass down lightly. Fern nipped at his ankle and gave an annoyed whine. The same whine she gave him when Zane walked into the room. "My brother must almost be here."
