Aiolos frowned, fighting down frustration at the brat’s complete lack of respect for his elders—or anyone, really. The damn colt should have been put down at birth—an idea he himself had suggested several times over the years, and one which Mnem always seemed happy to contemplate—but here he was, still alive, and growing more bothersome by the minute.
He switched his attention briefly to the girl, noting the pretty coloring with a passive eye. Twitchy, that one.
“Of course I have a knife; have you noticed your surroundings at all?” He had to have some sort of protection around this bunch, after all. If she was going to be skittish, she had much better spend her energy worrying about the colt that had one of her delicate wings in his mouth.
Dismissing them, he cast a critical eye around the room. He knew Hadyn was around here somewhere, and the sooner he dragged the brat back to his mother the sooner he got to go back to pretending none of them existed.

Hadyn's breath caught, sensing Aiolos' intent, and held himself as still as he was able. It wouldn't do to be caught just now, especially with Ira having put the man into such a foul mood. Grimly, he wondered how long he could hold his position before he was compromised. He didn't like his chances. Not at all.
