Normally the stallion tried to pretend that he was calm and level-headed; in fact, he typically even succeeded. Elias had trained him to think things through. Often he would pretend to be flash-tempered to make a point, but it was rare that he actually just gave into his temper. This was an exception.
A Lowlander was bad enough. The Lowlander who killed his brother was infinitely worse. Rai made a sound that could only be described as unnatural and slammed his fist into Zeus’ face.
It was probably one of the worst things he could have chosen to do, but he didn’t choose to; he had to defend his brother. That was what siblings did. That was why he was still alive. That was why Shin was dead. Oh, Light. Shin, he was so sorry. The least he could do was take vengeance now. He would do whatever he had to in order to free his brother.

Zeus snarled in rage, all interest in conversation gone. Conversation was overrated anyway; he was going to kill the freakin’ infidel and take his vengeance bit by bit out of that accursed green hide.
”You’re going to regret that,” the Lowlander promised with the first sign of his own raging emotions. He called the blue sphere of light and smoke directly into the Queen of Hearts’ face and wrenched himself backwards and away. He lost some fur and skin, but it wasn’t bad enough to even warrant his attention just yet.
”LEAVE HIM ALONE!” Shinjou screamed at the Lowlander, but Zeus was well used to ignoring the ghost when he needed to and now he definitely needed to. The ghost flitted into his vision, trying to think of some other way to distract his murderer before he managed to kill the only important thing in his not-really-life.
Zeus ducked his head, summoning his dagger into his right hand; it always came to his dominant hand. Demise. That’s what he’d named it years ago. A trifle dramatic, but it seemed fitting even more now than it had at the time.

Rai was blinded by light and he closed his eyes tightly in response, but the attack didn’t end there. Heavy smoke slipped into his lungs as he fell back from the Lowlander. It wasn’t a tickle, it was the heavy, sickly scent of poison. A deep, racking cough shook his body and he couldn’t hold himself upright at first. He could hear Shin screaming and thanked his brother silently since he could barely breathe, much less talk.
His coughing was giving away his position. He painfully pulled himself upright, and another coughing fit left him unmoving, though he managed to keep himself upright this time.
He could feel his whip’s rage quivering in his mind; the weapon wanted to help but was tied by her current from. It was the first time the weapon had ever shown discontent to him.
Rai flicked her so she lay across the path before him; if the Lowlander approached whilst he tried to regain his breath, he should step on her and then they’d know where he was.

The forward momentum of the Lowlander was arrested by a very violent tackle from a black and purple mass. Odex had heard the commotion and deduced the danger to one of his charges. Boss wouldn't be pleased if something happened to The Queen. Chain clinking as he ran, he had seen the smoke around Shinrai and the dagger poised to strike, and he had leapt at the other canine in bipedal, solid paws connecting and forcing the Doberman back. Once he had his feet again, Odex viciously attacked the hand holding the dagger. The Doberman would either drop the dagger and give up, or find a way out of it. Once committed and not called off, Odex would fight until dead or too injured to move; even then, one would be wise to keep their distance from his sharp teeth and strong jaws.
He continued to worry at the Lowland Queen's arm viciously. It would be the only way to keep from getting stabbed himself.

Zeus crouched and was about to leap at the Queen who was coughing and barely able to stand. Shinjou continued to scream in his sensitive ears, getting into his face so he could barely see, but he knew where the infidel was. He was going to kill a man today, and that knowledge made his lips curl up in a pleased smile.
He was not, however, prepared for the flying tackle that came out of nowhere. Another canine! A Shepherd, like Obadiah! Well, $*#&! At least the Card wasn't a Club; one too many blows from Obadiah's stone hands had taught Zeus he didn't want to be touched by that. The pain was sudden and intense, but he quickly blocked it away.
Still, the teeth sunk into his arm wasn't much better. His hand clenched tightly around his dagger, unwilling to just drop it, but the blasted Torque wasn't releasing long enough for him to get his arm away. His own teeth bared and twisted his head to snap his jaws onto the back of the Shepherd's neck. It wasn't the best bite, but it was at the scruff, an area that would normally cause some sort of submission in dogs. He purposefully injected his poison as he growled a warning in the back of his throat.

Normally showing signs of dominance to Odex would work, but this brown dog wasn't his Boss yet, and he would fight until he was sure the Heart was either his Boss or just another broken opponent.
When the teeth locked in, he had a moment to decide what to do. He released the arm long enough to roll over, away from the dagger and over the doberman's face to try and get free. It was mostly skin in the other's mouth, so though it hurt when he ripped himself out of the grasp, it wouldn't cause damage permanent enough to disable him. He ignored the pain, which would work until the pain got worse, or for another hour. Hopefully this fight wouldn't go that long.
The other canine being equally fast to regain his feet, Odex was about to rush the Lowlander again when snaking branches came out of the ground and held him back. No, not branches, the roots of the trees. The Lowlander was caught by the same trap. What in the world? Right, Odex had forgotten that he was with Silas when they heard the disturbance.
Silas was a little out of breath from the run. He was way littler than Odex, who he'd been walking around with, and his extra legs made things harder to boot. He finally reached the garden just in time to see Odex get bitten by the Lowlander. Silas bristled then, and started talking to the tree roots in his head. So maybe this was by Father and Uncle Whip didn't like Lowlanders. Here, attacking The Queen in his own garden.
His voice was squeaky but oddly authoritative in the way that only someone who has immobilized you can be. "STOP IT!" He said, taking special care to keep the hand with the dagger still on the Lowlander. He knew that he didn't want Odex to die, but he didn't know about the Lowlander yet. He just held them for the time being, staring with anger at the Doberman.

The Torque was a touch little **er, but Zeus was a packleader. When Odex regained his feet, Zeus made sure he was back up on his as well. Maybe the Shepherd was the Queen's bodyguard? It seemed fitting. In any case, the other dog was about to attack again, so the Lowlander tightened his grip and prepared to leap himself; he would kill this guy and then finish off the infidel.
His forward motion was arrested, his right arm suddenly incapacitated. He glanced down in disbelief. What the snot was this?
"Tree roots?" Shin asked thoughtfully, though the question wasn't directed at anyone. He floated over to the boy and eyed him curiously. "You should let the Torquehelm go," he said, bitterness in his tone. It was harder when you knew that they couldn't hear you. "If we're lucky, it'll kill him."
Zeus snarled in response to the words, though he tried to angle the dagger downwards and cut himself free. After a few moments, the effort proved a waste of energy. A glance proved the boy was, conveniently for him, a Club. He threw his pain ability at the kid, trying to get the child to let him go.
Strong Magical Ability: When activated, he can inflict mental pain on another card of the suit of Clubs, once per day. The degree of pain is equivalent to that of the skin on ones jaw slowly being peeled off. Many even lose the ability to talk after about five minutes of this torture...even though they aren’t actually being harmed.

Rai was still blinded by the ball of light and coughing from time to time, but he knew of only one person who had the ability to stop people with tree roots and the boy's voice affirmed it. "Silas," the Queen of Hearts said firmly. "Contact your father; we need him here."
He gave another racking cough, trying to clear his lungs, but all he did was get another gasp of the toxins. Blast it all! "Is Odex here too?" he asked in a low, rasping voice. "Let him go if he is." He would like to just kill the Lowlander but though he was ducking his head around, the light and smoke remained firmly in his face. He wanted to wring the freakin' dog's neck himself! Another coughing fit struck him and he stayed upright by sheer willpower.

Silas had never felt anything like this before. The tiny part of his mind that could think wondered if Father's face ever felt like this, but the rest of him didn't care at all. He tried to hold them both, but he was fighting a losing battle of holding his concentration while trying to get to the tree so he could call Father. He leaned against the bark, screaming, "Daaaaddyyyyy! It hurts, help! In the garden!"
Elias had been keeping an eye on Perseus, but at his son's pained cry he bolted, knocking aside anything in his path. He didn't know what might be harming his son, but it would soon regret it.
Odex was still struggling against the roots, and thought he was making progress, but the screams of Silas let him know that the young Jack was losing his concentration. All right, then, he'd rip out the Lowlander's throat, and hopefully the pain would stop. The young Jack of Clubs was doing a very good job of holding them, though.
Finally, the pain was too much, and Silas lost his contact with the tree roots. The Lowlander and Odex dropped the few inches they'd been suspended.
Odex lunged at the Lowlander. One thing at a time, and the best way to protect his Cards was to eliminate the threat first. There was movement to his right. A flash of a large green and yellow mass, and the ground began to quake. Odex lost his footing and tried to roll away, both from the doberman with his dagger and from the very angry Boss he could see out of the corner of his eye.
Elias snarled at the Lowlander, growling and shouting his hatred inarticulately. Later he would realize the gift he'd been given to his overall plans with this fight, but this moment all he realized was that there was scum attacking his friend and hurting his son. Stopping the earthquake just before he'd covered the ground to the Lowlander, he slammed a shoulder into the swine, momentum carrying them both to a wall behind Zeus. Once there, he held the Lowlander aloft, pinning his weapon hand to the wall. "Tell me why I shouldn't bury you alive," he said, voice half a growl.
Queen's Ability: He is able to cause small violent upheavals in the ground surrounding him in a forty foot radius. Three times a day, he can cause the ground to cave three feet down, spike upward in juts around a foe, or spasm wildly underfoot. He can choose one of these options each of the three times he uses it and it will affect an opponent that he's focused on. The ground will respond to his demands immediately and cannot be turned back against him unless otherwise indicated.

When he had finally-- finally-- reached the ground again, Zeus gave a low, angry snarl, and would have gone for the kid first just to be certain the little snot didn't do that to him again, but it didn't matter what he wanted to do because the ground rolled this way and that and he was nearly knocked off his feet and, just as suddenly, something was barrelling his way.
Bloody *&$$! What was wrong with this friggin' Court?!
A mutant Josiggy slammed him back into a tree and the breath was knocked right out of him for a moment. He discovered only then that he had managed to get his arms up instinctively, which was likely the only reason he wasn't being choked to death right then.
He sneered at the man, "Because if you do, the little pispard brat will never get released."
Shin growled at his tormentor in response.
