Theofilus decided that it was a very good idea to try and find a spot by the lake to read. Sure it was a place where lovers went to meet, but at this point anything was better than being interrupted by yet another servant with some sort of complaint. He needed to read to get rid of his stress. It was the only thing he could think of to do. It was a good thing Kelasia was able to understand that. Other people just didn't get it sometimes. He raked his gloved fingers through his hair for a moment before making his way to his usual spot. He was coming up rather quickly, and to his disappointment he saw a winged figure in the distance. His shoulders drooped as he got closer. Why was someone always in his favorite spot when he just wanted to read. Wait a minute. An eyebrow perked as he paused to take in the image with his only working eye. He had never seen that person before, and... they were a Highlander? There weren't that many Highlanders around the Court of Diamonds recently. No one he could personally remember. "Excuse me... is that seat by you taken?"

It was a rare moment when someone caught Anya unaware, let alone unaware and lounging on the ground. Her long talons raked the water, causing soft ripples that she watched race across the surface of the pond. By all means her work in the capital was done and she should have been on her way home hours ago. Instead she had chosen to take a small detour to the Court of Diamonds. It wasn't everyday she got to wander about and do what she pleased, and the Court had always been a place of great fascination for her. In fact, it was probably the only place outside of her father's home that she felt comfortable enough to, well, to lay in the dirt and play in a lake. A voice abruptly tore through her thoughts, causing Anya to blink suddenly and draw away from the water. Idiot! She'd let her guard down too much and now she was likely to be escorted off the property for pretending like she belonged here when she didn't. Damnable. ...Except, no. The voice didn't seem angry at all. In fact, it was awfully familiar... Her gaze lifted, half-lidded and tempting, to peer at the man who had spoken up. His Majesty himself, now that was a pleasant surprise. Even if she was in trouble, this was worth it. "Good afternoon, Your Majesty. That seat is quite open, you'd be welcome to join me."

"Why thank you, Miss, I appreciate your kindness," He gave the woman a small smile. Well she was terribly polite. Not many people reacted well to being caught off guard. He carefully took a seat besides her.
On closer inspection she was quite a fetching young lady. Then again Theofilus had always been fond of birds. He honestly couldn't help himself in that aspect. He quickly glanced over her whole form, his eyes lingering on her talons. How much damage could those things do?
The sparrow set his book on his lap before speaking once again. "I've never had the pleasure of meeting you before, so might I ask for your name?"
If he had "met" her before it was either from afar or during his little grudge match against the previous Queen. That blood loss had really prevented him from focusing after that, he still couldn't quite remember who attended besides the man who helped him out and called for a doctor.

Handsome, powerful, and polite. Anya liked Theofilus already. It helped, too, that she had heard a good deal of pleasant things about this interesting man...and he had his human form. It was all a pleasantly handsome mixture that left Anya positively delighted in her decision to venture onto the grounds today.
"You're very welcome, Your Majesty, it's my pleasure."
Anya watched him as he took his seat, aware of his eyes -- eye, rather -- moving over her figure. Brief though it might have been, Anya simply had an eye for that sort of thing. She merely smiled, shifting ever so slightly in order to make herself more 'presentable' although she kept an air of regal manners about her. There was no flattery in looking trashy, after all.
"Of course you may." She dipped her head and daintily held out a taloned hand to be shaken or kissed as was his preference. "I am Anya, and it is a great pleasure to meet you in person."

He gave her hand a proper shake as he smiled at the pretty Highlander bird. She was probably too young for Theofilus to even think of hitting on. Funny how that went when you had grandchildren. And a lot of other children for that matter. The Queen repressed a sigh as he nodded his head at the woman. "It's nice to meet you too, Miss Anya."
He was a bit too curious not to start casual conversation. It wasn't everyday that he happened upon a woman waiting at the lakeside in one of his favorite spots. Oh no, it was like something out of a bad romance novel. "What brings you to the Court of Diamonds? A visit or would be looking for a noble title to fit your noble appearance?"
And that sounded like a bad pickup line. Oh well. It would be nice to make someone laugh for once.

Anya would be lying if she said she didn't enjoy a cheesy romance novel every now and then. Especially ones where the main man was a handsome figure like The Queen that was sitting beside her. His 'bad pickup line' definitely brought that golden laughter into the air, and the Jack shifted to adjust her robes and draw just a little closer. Cheesy as this all might have been, it was still romantic in its own rights.
At least, it was in her own thoughts.
"You flatter me, Your Majesty." She cooed out, flushing fetchingly and dipping her head briefly. "For now, just a visit. I was in the Capital on business and thought that I might take some time to visit the Court of Diamonds while I had a chance."
She leaned in, golden eyes searching Theofilus's face slightly. Would it be safe to flirt? Or would she be overstepping her boundaries? ...It was probably best to contain herself for now, even if her interest was obvious.
"Perhaps one day though, I will get the chance to gain a proper Title here."

Theofilus chuckled. Well, mission accomplished on more than one count. "I'm glad you decided to visit the Court of Diamonds," he said cheerfully in an almost half chirp. This was an unexpected evening and more than worth the interruption of his reading.
"Might I ask if you would like to stay the night in a proper suite or am I being too forward?" Theofilus said suddenly as he continued to look at Anya with a cheerful smile. Honestly, he could play the game of cat and mouse rather well, or he could just play the power card. Tonight seemed like a more forward night.
He hoped she wouldn't be put off but such a suggestion. Some women were terribly picky, but he was more than willing to take a risk tonight. Plus he could always find time to read tomorrow. Having a little fun that involved another person wouldn't kill him.

"I share your sentiments, Your Majesty."
Anya was pleased. Beyond pleased, even.
This visit was going better than she could have ever hoped it would: not only was this Queen exceptionally charming, but he was also handsome and interested. Anya couldn't have hoped for anything more from this brief visit to the Court of Diamonds. Slowly she leaned closer, displaying herself for The Queen now that she knew flirting would be acceptable. No boundaries pressed at all, it seemed, and all men loved to be flattered; she didn't think the handsome sparrow was any different.
"You're not being at all too forward." She smiled back, her words a charming purr. "A proper suite for the night would be just wonderful, and so gentlemanly of you." It would be even better if she was right and he was offering her his suit to spend the night in. That would just be the perfect end to this lovely afternoon.

She was flirting back, so this was an obvious sign that he could get away with having a bit of fun for the night. As much as he loved reading it could wait until tomorrow. "Well, would you like to enjoy the lake for a little while longer or would you like to pick the room you'll be staying in, Miss Anya?"
Even if that sounded stupid, at least he hadn't slipped up in some fantastic way. Hitting on women was never his strong suit. In fact he had no idea how he had even manged any sort of proper relationship with Calia and Kelasia. That was besides the point though.
He traced the edge of the book as he waited for a response from the young woman. Maybe he should feel terribly bad about something like this? No. He couldn't bring himself to such a conclusion.

Anya was happily slipping closer, easing up to his side until they were barely touching. His question was tempting and she was torn between lingering on the lakeside with Theofilus or jumping to find a room. Both were good, tempting options.
"The lake is lovely and I'd love to enjoy the scenery a bit longer, but..." She shivered slightly, the act more purposeful than honestly chilled, and eased herself up against Theofilus a little more. "But it is getting rather cold. I wouldn't mind stepping inside now and finding a suit."
She just hoped that Theofilus wouldn't depart her company after she had. Thatwould be a great pity indeed. Carefully she tapped her long nails against her thigh. "Will I have the honor of keeping your company this evening, Your Majesty?" Anya wasn't about to get her hopes up and assume that Theofilius would stay, but it was worth the attempt.
