The man waited for a long moment for any sort of reply; normally his experiments had a great deal to say right at first. This one, however, just sat and ignored him. He didn't like it. "Well, anyway," he said brightly, forcing his annoyance from his voice. "Let's just hope my day is more productive than your night. He was swift to fix up an injection before his experiment could figure out he was doing anything other than clean up the mess. He drifted closer and shoved the needle into the pink hindquarter without any warning.
Eir felt the brief sting and leapt up with a snarl of rage. He whirled before the man could pull the needle back out, smacking the wrist against the bars. The Corvie was swift to snatch his hand back out of the cage as Eir snapped at where the appendage had just been.
"Wot was in that?" Eir's words were almost unrecognizable as he growled them out.

Tosiek felt his stomach churning when he finally came back to his full senses. Oh, Light! He hated needles! It seemed silly if he tried to just think about it, but something about the idea of metal slip through flesh-- oh, it just made his hide shudder. He didn't understand how anyone could do that to somebody else under anything but the direst of circumstances. Perhaps that's what they were in, though.
He turned his blurry gaze back to her unfocused black shape and frowned worriedly. "Are you okay?" he had to ask. "Did she hurt you?" Not that Thalia had done anything but chatter cheerfully with their abductors. Her bravery astounded him and absolutely made him admire her all the more. Perhaps her unusual heritage had prepared her for these strange circumstances, but it was still amazing. He glanced back out into the main of the room, but the woman had wandered away for now.

"I'm good," Thalia said. Only time would tell if the woman had hurt either of them, but Thalia didn't want to bother Tosiek with morbidity. Sneaking a look around to make sure that the woman had not wandered back in the room, she carefully emptied the contents of her tentacles in front of Tosiek. It was an odd assortment of trinkles--the vials, little knives, a hook, a little spool of thread that was presumably used for stiches, et cetera. They even had matches.
She looked over their resources with a contemplative frown. She wished she knew what the little vials did. "Okay, here's the plan. Let's see if any of these tools can saw through the bars. Failing that, we'll--I dunno, throw vials at the door and light the matches in case they're flammable and hope that one of them goes all explodey."

"I'm sure you'll find out soon enough," the Corvie replied. "But I may as well tell you so you'll calm down. It's little more than a tranquilizer to help you relax. Normally I like to wait on such things, but you evidently need it now."
The young stallion bared his teeth angrily, but there was little he could do about it now. "And just wot," he snarled at his tormentor. "Are you planning on doing to me?"
The mutant-looking man just smiled at his captive. "I'll fall back on my old montage," he said smugly, misusing the word. "You'll find out soon enough."
Eir's ears flattened against his head and he jerked the needle out of his butt with a sharp gesture. With a practiced toss of his head, he threw it at the man. He muttered something uncomplimentary under his breath.

Tosiek was more than willing to try, though he wasn't entirely certain it would actually work. "All right," he said, carefully infusing his voice with confidence and not the concern and fear that he had. "Thalia, hand me something sharp," he began. With his talons he could probably work a little bit easier than she could; though, she did have her lovely tentacles. Nevertheless, she would do better with another job for now. "Keep a look out too, okay? I can't see to know if she's watching us."
As soon as he had something in his talons, he moved to the back of the cage so, hopefully, both of their bodies would be blocking his actions from the scientist's view and began to try and saw through the bars with one of the little knives. In no time at all, it was dull and he hadn't even scratched their cage.

Thalia was of course disappointed that the sawing was not working, but she also wasn't going to lie to herself and say that she wasn't excited at the prospect of seeing if any of these vials--or vials combined with matches--worked to bust them out of there. She might have been developing a bit of a flamboyant streak. Or just exhibiting more of what she already had.
She grabbed one of the vials with a tentacle, and sent a sidelong glance at Tosiek. "We might want to be as far away from the target area as possible," she said, and backed up to the far end of the pen.
A vial hit the bars and shattered, billowing a cloud of dark pink smoke that smelled cloyingly of roses. The next vial emitted a small shower of sparks and a cloud of green dust.
She was about to declare this toss a disappointment too and hurl another vial, this time with a match, when she noticed something odd happening to the bars. They were corroding.
She grinned happily. If it kept up at this rate, they would just be able to break them by hand and then--freedom!
"We did it, Tosiek!"

The lassitude descended upon him before he was even aware that it had. So he watched in a calm cloud as the Corvie opened his cage door and slipped forward with another needle as well as a vial of something and a cloth.
The Corvie was chattering about something, but Eir didn't feel like attending; his limbs felt heavy and he stared rather dully as the other man quickly injected something into his shoulder. The sting was distant and paltry compared to many of the blows he'd experienced during his life as a predator.
The Corvie held the now empty needle between his teeth with an ease that suggested quite a bit of practice. He poured out some of the vial's contents onto the rag and began to massage it into the pink stallion's hindquarters. Eir's ears went back when it tingled along his skin, but he couldn't seem to make himself move other than that.

Tosiek glanced back over his shoulder, trying to figure out how the scientist could have missed all of the 'fireworks' happening from their cage, but the woman had left at some point with nary a word to them. Or, more likely, she'd chatted to them about all of her plans but they had been too distracted to take note. At least, he was fairly certain she was gone. He didn't see the big black shape that would have indicated she was still around.
"That's great, Thalia," he answered, though his voice was still surprisingly even. "Don't get too close until we know it's done working." Though, they might need to work on the bars whilst they were weakened. He gulped loudly and moved quickly forward before the girl could get it in her head to try and touch the bars. He took one more deep breath, then quickly grasped the bars with his talons and pushed as hard as he could.

There was a heavy cracking noise as fracture lines danced up the corroded bars. It didn't seem to take too much force to break them completely--though Thalia wasn't the one doing it, so maybe Tosiek was having a harder time than he was letting on. Thalia felt a surge of happiness and triumph as a portal to freedom was opened.
The surge was quite brutally squashed as their scientist entered the room, a small platter of assorted sweets in hand.
"I was just getting you some treats as reward for your excellent cooperation and heard something break..." She stopped, looked at the hole in their cage, at them, and then back to the hole. Aw, crap, Thalia thought. She hadn't heard the damn explosion but they had been given away by metal snapping. She frowned in disappointment, like a mother who had caught her offspring stealing. "You two are very bad children."

"Oh, but we're not," Tosiek quickly said, activating his charming ability before he even had time to think. Think fast, think fast. "We just wanted to help you clean up, but you were gone and we couldn't ask. And then we dropped one of the vials that Thalia was trying to put away for you and there was all sorts of smoke and things. I was trying get the bars to reattach, but they just popped right off!"
It was such a horribly bad lie, but maybe with his charm it would work. He smiled up at the woman just a bit blindly, since he couldn't actually see her face through the blur. He knew about where her eyes should be, though, and tried to look at her there.
"You really don't need to keep us locked up; hasn't Thalia already shown how useful she is? I don't know as much, but I can certainly sweep and dust."
