Okay.
That's really all Theofilus could think of. This person was obviously... well Theofilus really didn't know the words for it. Surprise though, covered half the bases while shock covered the rest.
He wanted to say something meaningful or even threatening. He was doing an amazing job of just staring in the silence. He snapped back to reality after glancing back at Ataxia and Asha.
What exactly could you say in a situation like this?
"I'm going to ask you a question, and I'm going to expect an honest answer out of you," Theofilus said quite slowly trying to piece together the words in a manner fitting the situation. It was quite hard not to blurt out something ridiculous.
"Why exactly did you decide to follow them rather than actually assist them? I don't like the idea of you disrespecting someone whose part of my family, so again, answer as truthfully and tactfully as you can, sir." Theofilus refrained from twitching uncomfortably. This really wasn't sitting well with him.

Her spirits sank even further as Asha protested her papa's advice. She felt the child crawled further into her mane and whisper into her ears. More than anything, she wished she could reassure her and tell her exactly what she wanted to hear. Even if it was the exact opposite, warning the girl that this Mister Gaston was no good, she wished she could tell her with one hundred percent certainty. But...
"I really don't know, Asha. The whole thing seems a bit off to me. Let's wait and see what happens, okay? Either way, we have your papa here now. It should all be just fine."
Xia watched Gaston closely as he revealed himself. He looked just as...Gaston as he had been when they first saw him. Brash, bold, and not only full of himself, but overflowing. She started to lower her head progressively further as he continued talking. If she hadn't had Asha on her back, she probably would have summoned one of her sinkholes to get out of sight. As much as she wanted to clam up, she kept quiet. She would let Asha's papa handle this one, though he sounded just as flabbergasted with the King as she was. Though at least he wasn't getting any winks from him.

Gaston grinned and posed a little, hoping to look noble, he was so good he was practically fooling himself, he thought as he adjusted his tunic.
"Well, I thought I'd make sure to catch anyone along the way who might halt these petty ladies. Nahaha, you see my Queen, they're much more likely to come out hen they think that their prey is alone. I'm therefore much more likely to make the road safe and see the pretty ladies home safely by staying behind a bit and trotting after them."
He rubbed his hand up and down his shirt and grinned, looking incredibly pleased with his brilliance.
He folded his arms over his chest and tossed his head slightly so that his black mane would flip from one shoulder to the other.
"Why you think I would insult such a charming girl as your daughter, I haven't the slightest, and why I wouldn't be truthful, especially in the presence of this lovely lady, I haven't the foggiest. I'm just doing my duty to the Courts."
He posed again and winked roguishly at Ataxia again, dragging his tongue across his teeth. He was awfully attractive today, wasn't he?

Theofilus had never had a stronger urge to beat someone with a stick. A sharp pointy stick. However, he had to get over this sudden urge so he could speak properly. He sighed and shook his head in dismay before he could even find the proper words.
"Perhaps you're insulting a lady by playing the roll of a ladies man and hero that you so claim to be," Theofilus said as he gave the man a stern look. Well, it was more of a mild glare than anything else. He just didn't want to hear another word out of this obviously entirely too charismatic ham. "Just... leave now. Speak to no one about this. It would be safer that way, Your Highness Gaston,"
It was a nice way of saying get lost, wasn't it? The sparrow didn't care at this point. He just wanted to find a place to sleep and get Asha home as soon as possible. This man as "honest" as he seemed to be, worked for the Court of Hearts. He was dangerous.

Gaston shook his head as he chortled.
"Were you not listening, my Queen? It would be horrid of me to leave this poor lovely lady to walk home on her own. Imagine! You taking this delightful charmer back home safe and me going back to the palace of Hearts and leaving the lovely...uh...Ataxia! To walk home all on her own? For shame, sir! I will walk her home so as to ensure her safety!"
Flexing his biceps lightly and tickling Asha lightly under the chin, he turned back in the direction of Corvistowne.
"Goodbye, little Asha, make sure you grow up to be as beautiful as lady Ataxia here. Have a good trip home. Nahaha, come, my dear lady, let us take leave of this fearsome Queen and head off to your home."
Gaston had thought about it and decided to leave the Ace idea alone for now and follow the Corvie home. There were reasons.
1. I might get lucky. 2. If he knew where Ataxia lived, she could be interrogated later should there be any need. 3. I might get lucky.
There, that made a nice "might get lucky" sandwich. How could she refuse?
Smiling, he awaited their response, then he would walk the Canine home.

Ataxia did not like where this was going. At all. The walk to Corvistowne from the city was long enough. Having His Highness in tow would tax the few threads of sanity she possessed. That and it absolutely vexed her that she did not know what to think of him. His idiotic nature was either a beautifully manufactured facade, or...he really was that stupid. He played the part so well that it was hard to think of it as being anything but natural.
"Really, Your Highness, there's no need for that. I walk back and forth from Corvistowne to the City and back plenty of times by myself. I can manage...I'm sure there're plenty more people needing your assistance in the City, more than I need. Isn't that right, Your Majesty?"
She turned to the bird, a look of apprehension framed by eyes forced to smile. Though Xia would do anything to see Asha get home safely, she would rather avoid having Gaston walk her home...

(( OOC: >_>; I kill posting order ))
Theofilus raised an eyebrow. "And you seem to be misunderstanding my intentions. I had every intention of taking Miss Ataxia home so I could take her for taking care of Asha, and I wanted to speak with her about important matters. However, if she chooses to go with you, I'll be on my way with Asha."
The sparrow really wanted to kick the man in the face. How could anyone like such... such... guh. It was just too frustrating to think about. Him going ahead and touching Asha without even a second thought didn't help his case. Some people were never meant to meet. This was one of those cases that was accidental and probably should have never happened.
Theofilus looked at the Corvistowne canine with a worried expression. She hoped that if she did choose Gaston, she would be all right. That man just wasn't.... right.

Xia saw the glimmer of hope in the sparrow's words. There was a chance for freedom there! Aside from that, she was pretty curious about these important matters he wanted to speak about, most likely dealing with Asha. Really, it didn't matter if there really were important matters or not, if it meant that she could get out of having Gaston as an escort, she would gladly take it.
"Of course, of course! We really shouldn't wait to talk. As long as we're both here, we might as well take that opportunity. No time like the present!"
Her attention returned to the Highland biped. While his intentions might have been well and good, he was far too...forward for her tastes. And as far as she could tell, she couldn't guess what his intentions were, excluding those that were linked to more base animal instinct.
"I do appreciate your offer, Your Highness. Thank you for all your help."

Gaston's shoulders slumped in slight dissapointment.
It was the Sparrow's rank, wasn't it? That was why she wanted to go home with him instead of ol' Gaston, huh?
Damn.
"Well, if that's the way you feel, my dear. I hope we meet again someday, keep in mind my invitation."
He blew the Canine a kiss in an exaggeratedly sloppy gesture. Women loved that, she was sure to pay him a visit later. As for now...well, he was sure his Queen would be interested in this information.
"Glad to be of service, farewell, little Asha, keep ol' Gaston in your thoughts. Nahaha, I'll see you some other time I'm sure."
Giving the Sparrow a bow of respect, he turned and began the long jog back to the Capital... he would have to stop in the Capital inn...but that was ok. Perhaps he would be able to pik up that Equine bar maid...pretty thing she was...
Thoughts already on the sex he might be getting that night, the Biped took off for the Capital, humming jauntily as he went.
"My what a guy is Gaston!"

Asha was more delighted than she could ever fully put into words. She had been right all along, and for the first time ever she was sure that she'd been a better judge of people than her Papa was. She stretched into the little tickling under her neck, giggling and blushing softly. "I'll try my hardest, Mr. Gaston!" she said, voice filled once again with joy. "And of course I won't forget about you!" How could she? He was almost as kind as Ataxia, and he was the strongest person she'd ever met!
As she listened to his large, retreating footsteps, she beamed at both canine and sparrow. "We're gonna go to Xia's, papa?" she said, smile only widening. The night was panning out perfectly. To have her father meet her new friend already seemed simply perfect.
Then her mind came up with an interesting connundrum. "Since we aren't there yet... Can I stay with Xia, for now?" She hoped Theofilus's feelings wouldn't be hurt by this, but she was enjoying her time spent with the canine and didn't want it to end too abruptly. Besides, she had... girl questions for the woman. The remaining travel to Corvistowne would prove a perfect opportunity for the two to chat.
