Theofilus sighed and shook his head in dismay as he watched Gaston leave. This wasn't going to go well. Asha still thought he was some sort of savior and... oh bother. Why was life so very complicated?
"I suppose we are going to go with Xia," Theofilus said as he turned around to face the road to Corvistowne. There was a stop on the way, he was sure. Then again, when was the last time he found himself on this road? "And of course you can, Sweetheart. I'm not going to take away your fun." He said as he patted the young skunk on the head.
He turned his attention back to Ataxia and gave her a weak smile. "I suppose we're going to be walking for quite some time, but I'm pretty sure there's an inn on this road or something like it." He paused and turned to Rogers. Who nodded and headed off towards the City. He would get to tell everyone that Asha was all right and that Theofilus was with her.

While Xia was somewhat discouraged at the fact that Asha still had so much faith in the Heart, it could hardly eclipse the immense relief she felt watching Gaston as he went to return to the City. With Gaston gone and this Queen by their side, she and Asha were finally safe, if only for now. What lightened Xia's mood even further was Asha's request to stay with her on their way to Corvistowne. Her tail wagged of its own accord. It was as if the fearful business that happened previously had never occurred in the first place.
As the sparrow referenced the possibility of inns on the way, she tried to think of the buildings she usually passed along the way. Truth be told, she rarely ever stopped at any of them. The good inns were too pricey and the less-expensive inns were way too shady. A nice patch of grass a short distance away from the road was good enough. But with a Queen with them, either option was a possibility. They would just have to make sure that Asha's rank wasn't seen.
"Sure, plenty. The route's pretty well-traveled with Corvies going to and from the City to buy and sell. But to take a completely different route on this conversation, might I know your name, Your Majesty? I'll still call you by your title, of course, but that way, I might know you as an individual and not just a Queen."
That and something in the back of her mind was telling her...Had she heard of this sparrow before?

As Asha felt Theofilus's hand stroking her head, she moved forward against it, closing her clouded eyes and smiling happily. She loved her papa more than almost anyone else and it showed with her cheerful movements. "Thank you, Papa." she said, her smile beyond content. She was just so glad that everything had worked out...
Not only that, but the night was looking to be more and more exciting. They would stay at an Inn? Maybe her Papa would even consider letting Xia join the family! She let out a small and delighted cry at the thought, hiding her face in the canine's mane. Perhaps later she could share those thoughts with the sparrow, but for now they would sit in her mind to keep her amused as the two spoke.
She knew that the two adults weren't speaking to her, but she couldn't help interject. She was just feeling too overjoyed at this point. "My papa is the best person! He takes care of our whole family, and he takes care of the courts, too! He is a di-plo-mat." she announced cheerfully, knowing that Xia would be impressed. "And he is so handsome! I've heard mama and daddy say so." her tail flicked happily from side to side. She knew enough to wait for him to give the canine his name on his own.

Theofilus couldn't help but laugh at the entire situation. Children could put a smile on his face no matter the situation. Thank you innocence. "Thank you, Asha, for that grand introduction." He said as he reached to pat the girl on the head once more.
"My name is Theofilus," the sparrow said. He briefly wondered about how long it would take to actually get to an Inn. He didn't want Asha out at night for so very long. "I can't thank you enough, Miss Ataxia for saving Asha. You can call me just Theofilus if you like. There's no need for titles between friends."
And she was now officially a friend of the family. She had honestly saved Asha's life. He still had no idea how she managed to get out of the house. Kelasia was going to be doing quite a bit of scolding, he was sure. At the moment Theofilus couldn't help but be happy.

Xia turned her head to smile at her little passenger. This precious little girl could only be the product of a loving family and a good home. She was so happy, so innocent. Aside from that insignificant mark on her chest, she was no different from any other child her age. Just as it should be. Not how it is, but should be. This papa was a good man, she was sure of it now. She was even more sure of it when she heard the sparrow's name.
"Theofilus! I've heard about you from my friend Rocky in Corvistowne! Only good things, of course. And please, if I can call you Theofilus, then you can call me Xia. As for Asha, I couldn't not save her. I never would've been able to live with myself if I'd have left her wandering alone in the City."

Theofilus blinked a few extra times when he heard the name. Rocky, the crazy raccoon that was helping Mori with her wings had spoken about him.... nicely? Theofilus didn't remember it that way, but whatever worked for Rocky was fine by him.
"Well, Xia, not everyone is as kind as you. If someone else had happened upon her I can't even imagine what would have happened," Theofilus sighed. He actually could have, and just didn't want to think about it. Really, how many times had they told Asha not to go outside alone? She had listened so many times before, what made her decide that now was a fantastic time to skip off into the sunset and scare the living daylights out of everyone.
At least she was safe. That was the important part. Nothing else would go wrong.... he hoped. Then again he still had to explain things to Asha, which he wasn't looking forward to. Raising children had never been this complicated before.

Asha sat in silence while the two adults spoke, her fluffy tail waving somewhat lazily as she hunkered down, waiting as patiently as a child could for them to finish their idle chatter. As time went on, it became more and more difficult for her to keep quiet, especially as they began to speak about her. She couldn't tune out what they were saying, and honestly, their words were making her feel more than a little nervous. Though it was a very small movement, completely invisible, she began to tremble slightly. Ataxia would only be able to feel it as the little skunk was holding herself close.
"I'm okay, though," she said in a small voice, ears flicking backwards. She was, wasn't she? "Xia and Mr. Gaston helped me. Nothing bad happened, so you don't need to try and imagine it, Papa."
Right? There was no point in worrying about what never came to be, was there? As it was, she was beginning to want more and more to get back to Ataxia's house, as soon as they could. Being out on the road was making her feel nervous. It wasn't as bad, now that the Queen was there, but who knew what dangers were out there, just waiting for the perfect moment to attack?
