It was strange how easy it was to vanish into a crowd when one knew how to lay low. Despite the bustle that was common in the streets of the capital, it still amazed the Jack how easy it was for even someone with his rank and breed to simply go unnoticed. It was not as if he minded, of course. He liked the quiet that he was capable of finding even in the busiest of places. His eyes closed shut peacefully, confident in the notion that even if someone were to sneak up behind him, he would know that they were there long before they had a chance to move toward him. The sun on his skin just felt... Exquisite. Day after day, he thought up new and exciting places to bask in the sunlight, and every day he was surprised by what he was able to get away with. He could understand if those that passed simply ignored him when they saw the Jack symbol emblazoned on his chest, figuring that he could do as he wished, but... To simply not see him was almost a ridiculous notion! To him, on this day in particular, the most amusing part of the whole situation was the way he could climb onto the statue that sat directly in the center of the fountain and still get not a single glance in his direction. It had taken some time for the glimmering beads of water to dry from his swampy-colored skin, but in the end the effort was very much worth it. A grin appeared on his scaly face as he settled in, comfort written across every part of his body.

Viviane tried in vain to get away from the crowds unscathed. It was his 'job' to be noticed, and possibly have someone take enough interest in him to pay for his services. However, this crowd was far to concerned in the middle of the day with getting to where they needed to be, or the bazaar for a second glance at the low-to-the ground snake that he was. Their heads were all high and straight forward with determination, and certainly weren't looking for someone to play with at this hour. So he slithered on the ground in the masses of people, attempting to get to an area were he and his long flowing hair couldn't get stepped on anymore. He gasped painfully as people stepped on his tail and snagged his hair as he tried to move away. Finally, after some serious effort, he was able to make it out of the bustling crowd, and into an area that people were not treading. He took a moment or two to catch his breath and check what damage had been done. His beautiful mane suffered no damage, except a bit of dust from the bottom of peoples feet, and luckily he was fairly unmarked...except for a small bruise forming on the base of his tail. He cursed. He couldn't afford to not look his best at all time. No one wanted to pay for damaged goods. He would have to find a way to hide it. It was then that he noticed a fountain nearby, and what looked to be a lizard perched upon it, soaking up the rays of the sun. His eyes were closed in a small bit of ecstacy as he did so. Viviane wondered why he hadn't noticed the male before. He slithered toward the fountain, secretly happy to be near its reflecting waters, and spoke to the Golfam, "Hello..." he said simply to the male, slowly curling himself upon the ledge of the fountain with a smile. He was rather intregued by the camo male, and chating up with someone while he waited for night to fall and his 'shift' to start seemed favorible over being trampled. His voice to the gecko would sound masculine, but with a beautiful and graceful feminine touch...almost completely feminine...except for the fact...that the person before him was definately male and so was his voice.

As the sun's rays continued to tug the lizard into sleep, Damien settled closer against the heat of the statue. His eyes were open a mere sliver but appeared unseeing, the pupils covered by a thin flap of skin. He was dimly aware of the movement of someone towards him, a serpent of some kind, but he pushed the thought from his mind as he continued to bask. The sun was a powerful drug to him, and so many years spent in the dark of the marsh had made him even more sensitive to its already strong effects. If he could help it, he would love to spend the entire day in a place like this...
That was when he heard the other actually speak. He was unsure for a moment if the snake was actually speaking to him, so he opened his eyes and moved closer to the edge of the fountain, looking over at the Lakeland serpent. His wide toes clutched slightly at the edge, providing him some additional support. His whiskers fanned out slightly with curiosity at the voice of the other, their membranes spreading. He found that he was intrigued by this strangely beautiful creature, and offered the snake a small nod. "Hello to you, too."

Viviane gave a very faint smile, one that touched only the very tips of his mouth, as the lizard Golfam shifted himself around to look at him. There was a part of him that had not expected to get a responce out of the other at all. In his life, it was almost like people could see through to the fact that he was undesirable company for upstanding citizens, though...to be honest...he wasn't sure how upstanding of a citizen a Golfamite could be. He had serviced many in his time, and the one thing he had learned was that you truely had to be careful with them.
But it was not time for those kinds of thoughts. The lizard seemed rather friendly, or at the very least, he had returned the greating. Viviane's serpentine smile didn't waver. "That is a rather unique place to sun yourself." Viviane said in his rather strange yet intreguingly beautiful way of speaking, this time he had a bit of laughter in it to. He truely did find it remarkible that the male had not been asked to leave or something of that sort. Most people didn't take kindly to lying on top of public property like that...but, everyone seemed rather busy. To busy to notice the two at the fountain talking anyway. He looked out at the people hustling and bustling about. "I find it strange that everyone is in such a hurry."

Damien, the snake would find, was a very strange example of an individual from that marsh. He had a nasty streak, to be sure, but he was always willing to hear another out. Sometimes, he attributed his rank to this quality. His eyes followed the snake, narrowed slightly until a flash of knowledge entered his mind. Ahhh, so he's... I see. A wide grin spread across the lizard's face as he moved nearer to the snake, though he was still suspended high above.
"Isn't it, though? I just wanted to see if I could raise some kind of ruckus." he raised his head, motioning to the general hubub of the streets that surrounded the pair. The noise was growing to be incredible, as people shouted at one another across the streets, moving in and out of stores holding packages. It was easy to get one's mind lost in the crowd, just watching to see what could be found. "They always are, at this time of day,[/b]" the lizard agreed, nodding slightly. "The name's Damien."

It took Viviane a moment to turn her attention back to the lizard after looking at the crowds. People just seemed to keep coming, as if they multiplied as they walked, splitting in two and making more of themselves. It was like a trance. But finally Viviane broke free as the lizard introduced himself. It was probably a good thing that he had not noticed Damien's look upon realizing that he was a whore. It always made Viviane wonder what people were thinking once he could tell they realized. Though in a way, he could have used the lizard's look to his advantage. Besides, a leer tended to mean you could potentially get paid.
Viviane looked back upon hearing his name, and with a small snake-like smile responded sweetly. "A pleasure to meet you Damien. My name is..." he hesitated a moment. This was when everything that had been going so well, usually went south. "Viviane." he said finally, curling his coiled body around itself more tightly. Hopefully the man wouldn't ask to many questions, though the inevitable 'Why do you have a girl's name?' was always going to forever be a question that people asked. He hoped though that with his voice...the man might just think it was some sort of...transvestite name...and that he might actually have a different more masculine name that he wasn't mentioning.

There was a flash of confusion which passed across the lizard's face, but he managed to hide it quickly. He was not one to intrude upon the quirks of others, especially when he himself had so many that would, for most, go unknown. Instead, he simply smiled wider, nodding his head to aknowledge the snake's words. Those strange whiskers of his were stretched forward, almost appearing to seek out something that could not be seen. Oh, he had a very good idea of what was going on here, and honestly... He liked it. It had been a long time since he had last had any sort of company. The people around them seemed to meld into a colorful blur that moved slowly around the two reptiles.
"Tell me, Viviane,[/b]" he said, one eyebrow raised slightly. He knew that his interest would likely be obvious, but he wanted to make the snake work for it, at least a little bit. "What brings you to the city today, to speak with a marshlander like myself?[/b]" his grin widened slightly. He wanted praise, and he was damn good at figuring out ways to get it. As a Club, albeit a Jack, from the Golfam marsh, he generally expected individuals with the charm of this snake to ignore him.
It was their loss, of course, but they couldn't know that.

Viviane waited with baited breathe to see what would happen now that he had given away his name. He was rewarded with a large, knowing smile. There was a part of him that felt uncomfortible under the gaze of the lizard, but it was one of the many reactions that he had recieved in the past. It was not as if he could really protest either. It is what he was, and to deny what he was was being untruthful to himself, something he knew wasn't good. Viviane wondered why he was in this line of work if it made him so uncomfortible sometimes. He figured that everyone felt a little uncomfortible with their jobs sometimes, and that it was a natural reaction to just about anything. He let the feeling slide, plastering a lovely snake smile upon his lips.
"Well, to be honest...I thought I would get to my shift earlier today, but it seems like there are few that would pay attention to someone such as myself today at this hour. Then I spotted you, and I figured that if I couldn't get a client, the least i could do was talk with someone. I don't get to talk to people very much, and you didn't appear to be going anyplace in a hurry." truth rang in his words like a bell. Though he began to wonder if that was the kind of responce the lizard was looking for. He watched the man's strangely webbed whiskers searching, finding them both a bit frightening and fasinating. Though, he always felt that way about any Marshlander in general. Marshlanders and Lowlanders tended to be the regions that whores like himself had the most trouble with, and he was cautioned around them. But talking to one surely wouldn't hurt...

Damien couldn't help but feel a twinge in his chest as he looked the serpent over, his eyes hesitating on the discolorations which marred his white scales. The bruises from the crowd blended well with Viviane's markings for the most part, but there were a few that stood out vividly. He wondered how often the snake obtained such bruises on purpose, and his mouth set into a firm line. It was not often that he had really thought about the lives of the whores that he indulged in from time to time, and now that he did he found it hard to not feel at least a twinge of pity. He nodded to himself as Viviane spoke, understanding his words and clearly hearing the truth contained in them.
"Can hardly blame you for wanting some company," the lizard remarked, closing his eyes in a slow blink. Those strange whiskers of his continued to move slowly, an outward display of his thoughts. "Talking can be a very good method of figuring out one's thoughts. Can I interest you in some lunch and conversation, perhaps?" Damien smiled at Viviane, head tilted slightly to the side. His curiosity towards the snake was obvious, but strange, as it was not based in lust.

Viviane sat coiled on the ledge of the fountain looking up at the lizard, and attempting very hard to read his thoughts. He was silent for a little bit to long, and at one point he even looked a bit upset. Had he said something wrong or that he wasn't suppose to? Maybe he shouldn't have been as honest? He wasn't to sure how to get himself out of this situation, so he took a moment to look into the water. Water always seemed to calm him. At least enough to collect his thoughts. The water lapped in tiny waves against the sides of the fountain as the water sprinkled down, making hundreds of ripples.
When the lizard finally spoke, Viviane was suprised by his words. He looked back up at him, and thanked whoever was up above that he hadn't been created with eyelids, or he might have blinked. His offer was even more shocking, making his head raise a little to bare his 'breast' in his astonishment. This was the first time he had even been offered such a thing. Most of the time it was just a..."Hey...I got $20 bucks to spare...what'll it get me." He wasn't sure if it was some kind of trick or not, but the offer seemed almost to good to pass up, "Well, I....would love to...but I'm afraid I don't have any money on me..." he said in his sudden realization. His feminine voice seemed to betray his unsureness as well as his disappointment.
