Viviane smiled a bit more, but didn't know what to make of the silence that had occured before the statement was finally said. What was Damien thinking about? It worried Viviane slightly. He watched equally silent as the lizard seemed to think deeply about what he was going to say next. He blushed a bit upon hearing once again, the genuine compliment he was recieving and the request that came along with it. Viviane opened his mouth slightly before closing it. He wondered if he should be honest about everything, and not just give some sort of fake story about how his family life had been swell and that he really just liked to have sex a hell of a lot. He had a feeling that this lizard was smarter then that, and he feared it would almost be an insult not to tell him. But no one had really cared to ask in the past. He didn't even know how to phrase anything he was about to say.
"I'm healthy and I am treated well....now...as...much as one in my profession can be anyway. It could be alot worse." he made a nervous laugh, before thinking for a moment. Was he happy? "I don't really know if I'm exactly...well....sad. But I don't know...if I'm really happy either. There are always things....that could make us happier. Safer. Healthier even. But I suppose...my life isn't terrible now for what it is." he said cautiously. He sure was skirting around the issue, it made him feel a little bad. But he didn't know if he was ready to tell his lifes story. He decided that if the lizard asked more specifically...then he might tell him...i mean...if he asked specifically...he couldn't just tell him to take a hike or anything...and well...maybe it would show that the lizard was genuinely interested. Viviane scratched his head a bit, why did things like this have to be so complicated?

Damien looked thoughtful for a moment. The snake had done a truely noble job of completely skirting around the question. He was a smart one, and knew that he didn't necissarily want to let a perfect stranger into his personal life. Damien wasn't sure if he wanted to let someone into his life so easily, but for whatever reason, he wanted to help Viviane. He took a sip of the tea that had been placed before him by the feline, glancing up at the snake. "I suppose what I really want to know is if there's anything I can do to help you feel... Better. Safer.[/b]"
With a sigh, he placed the teacup onto the table once more. "I want to know if you're happy with your... profession, or if you wish every day you could have something else.[/b]" he was never good at speaking gently, or at dealing with his thoughts. He supposed from time to time that it came with the territory of being a Marshlander, but it didn't mean he had to like it.
He looked at Viviane with what he sincerely hoped was an honest expression. He had heard about protectors to the whores that walked the streets, and from his first glance, he had a strange feeling that the serpent was in need of such a guardian at times. His feminine nature likely drew contempt from some during the day, and brutal sex from others at the night.
That was wrong.

He watched the other take a sip of his tea, and felt a bit of anxiety. He wondered if maybe he should have said more, been less illusive about the subject. He sighed a bit when the lizard clarified himself further. It was kinda nice to know that someone cared about you. Even if they had only met a couple of minutes ago, he could tell that this lizard was taking an instant liking to him, and he felt very similarly somehow. Damien was the first one to show him actual kindness outside of the gang, the first one to show any concern. He appreciated that, even if he didn't know how to deal with it completely. God...did he really have no friends outside the gang? Did he really think that there was no one out there in the world that was nice other then them, that he felt he had to have different conduct with Damien? What was wrong with him?
He looked concerned down at the piece of table in front of him. His hair had fallen slightly upon the table as he leaned against it and toward Damien. He looked back up, "Honestly, I don't know what you could do to make my life better. Maybe, I don't quite understand why you would want to make my life better. I mean...you are a very nice man, and youve treated me to a wonderful lunch, but...I still barely know you." he coiled uncomfortibly. The man was nice...why did he had to question his motives? Viviane felt aweful. "I'm sorry...I guess I'm not used to making friends so quickly." he said with a bit of a blush...trying to excuse the rudeness of before.
He tried to change the subject by answering the questions he had. "I think...I don't know. I think all whores...kinda wish for something greater...better. I'm afraid I have no skills that allow me for anything better, my mother was set on turning me into something of a doll. Beautiful and fragile as the purest woman. That, coupled with the fact that very few people seem to stomach me outisde the sex trade...makes finding other work...difficult. I'm just...not built for anything but a housewife's life...and unfortunately...I'm not really a housewife." he sighed a bit. There was part of his lifes story...and what was the truth, that he found admitting to himself for the first time. He was...happy....but only because he knew there was no better life for him. There could be no other life for someone like himself.

"Please, Viviane. There's no need to apologize.[/b]" Damien said quickly, shaking his head at how flustered the serpent seemed to become. He looked embarassed, biting his lower lip, his fins coloring with a slight blush as they extended slightly. "I would be suspicious if I were in your position, I assure you of that. I just have a strange desire to make sure you're well-cared for.[/b]"
He lowered his gaze, meeting the snake's eyes for a moment. He wanted to make sure that this last part really made an impression on him. "And I'm not just trying to get free sex out of you.[/b]" he shook his head slightly, taking another sip of tea. "That's your livelyhood, and I feel that would be stealing from you.[/b]"
He watched the snake as he spoke, noticing how the words seemed slow to come from him. He could understand why, it was a difficult story to listen to, and he was sure that it was hard for Viviane to tell it. He sat quiet for a moment, trying to fully process what he'd just heard, and in the silence he offered the snake a small, reassuring smile. What he'd said just helped to cement Damien's thoughts further, and he knew then and there what he wished he was able to do for the beautiful serpent. He was troubled by part of what he was told, and he looked down once more. "I can stomach you.[/b]" he said quietly, his voice faltering slightly. "I wish others could, too.[/b]"

Viviane blushed a little. Damien had reassured him that his feelings about the progression of the friendship would be natural for someone in his position, but he still felt bad nonetheless. The lizard had been nothing but nice to him, and here he was second guessing that. Was he that jaded? He never had thought himself a bitter individual, but maybe he really was. Maybe underneath it all he was bitter about his position. His inability to make friends, his inability to be around people without people giving him a look that clearly read 'Is it a he or a she?', the fact people were discusted about his abiguous looks, the fact that he couldn't do anything but what he was doing right now. The fact...that it was all his mother's fault. He could have been a normal serpent man....but now look at him? He shoke his head, trying to get rid of the thoughts. He didn't like such upsetting thoughts....it was the fragile side of him. The realization only seemed to make him more flustered.
"People do it all the time. I know I should always charge, but...I'm afraid I'm easily persuaded otherwise. Though...you would hardly be getting free sex....you did pay for lunch after all." he said with a bit of a blush and a smile towards the end. It was true, he wasn't a very good whore in that respect. Anyone that was vaguely nice to him seemed to warrent a free go. But Damien was different. Even now as he doubted him, he knew that Damien had not come to him in search of sex, and while it may or may not be in the lizard's mind, he knew that there was friendship to be had in Damien that there wasn't to be had in the others. Which made him wonder why he doubted him.
The snake smiled a bit. "I wish other people could, as well. I don't even really know why, but very few people can be around me without thinking me a freak. Not that I can blame them. There don't seem to be very many transvestites in the realm....and I'm about as girllish as they come. I almost wish...sometimes...that I was one. It would make my life...a lot easier." he looked sad then.

Damien was relatively unaware of his companion's internal conflict as he sipped at his tea, finally setting down the empty saucer once more. He knew that, for some reason, the snake was hesitant to believe him, and that made him wonder once more about his happiness with his life, as well as the quality of it. Had anyone beyond his colleagues ever honestly tried to connect with him? From the way their meeting was going, Damien had the distinct impression that this was, in fact, the case. That really was sad. With this in mind, he was able to press down the impatience that was beginning to bubble inside of him.
Sometimes, things just took more time. He could afford to use it on something as important as this.
At his comment, the lizard shook his head sadly. "It was a treat, not a payment of any kind.[/b]" he couldn't help but raise one eyeridge, wondering if there was another meaning in the snake's words, something that he was sure would not be there. While sex wasn't his biggest priority, well... Who could object to sex from someone as gorgeous as Viviane? He couldn't help but blush once more.
He looked at Viviane again, then reached across the table, one webbed foot gently brushing along his jaw in a surprisingly chaste motion that was clearly designed to comfort. "You're beautiful as you are.[/b]" He lifted the snake's chin gently until he could meet his eyes, offering him a soft smile once he did.

The snake nodded at the lizards words, ready to have the thoughts leave his mind. The lizard was being consistant in his offering for friendship, the least he could do was not doubt him. Or at least, try to have less doubts. "I suppose I'm just not used to recieving things. Ermm...well..." he blushed, feeling like the sentence had come out the wrong way, then restated, "Well...I guess I'm used to...recieving, but not without giving something back...right away."still he continued to blush, only growing redder when the lizard raised his eyebrows and blushed himself. "Are you sure you don't....you know...want anything in return?" he asked, getting the slight impression that maybe sex was on the lizards mind, but that maybe....he was really just trying to be a friend. Maybe the lizard wouldn't ask unless he offered? As bad as he knew it was...Viviane couldn't help but feel like he had to repay the man....
Viviane was blushing so hard he could have started glowing red. He welcomed the touch of the other man upon his face, and made no motion to pull away, looking straight at the other. "You really are very kind..."

Vivane's words made sense, to be sure, and they definitely fit into Damien's impressions thus far. It made him feel even worse for his Lakeland companion, but he wasn't entirely sure what to do in response. For one of Viviane's profession, payment was usually followed up immediately by something of the snake's, something which Damien thought could not even compare to money.
The lizard couldn't help but cough slightly at Viviane's offer (was it an offer? he couldn't believe his ears - was this beautiful snake seriously interested in him in the slightest?), the fins which stretched between his whiskers coloring a delightful pink with blush. No, no, of course this could not do. He couldn't deny that the snake was adorable and quite -sexy-, but... This was him, the muddy lizard from Golfam. "I-I couldn't ask that of you. If we were to share a bed, I would much rather have it be because you honestly desired one such as myself, not because you felt entitled to pay me back for a lunch.[/b]" he motioned at the meal, raising one hand to his mouth and coughing silently once more, trying to hide the hot blush.
"If you really want to repay me, though, there's one thing...[/b]" the lizard began thoughtfully, but then cut himself short with an absent wave of his hand. "Ah, no, nevermind. Silly to even think of it..[/b]" his blush was back in full, and his smile was slightly crooked.

Viviane wasn't quite sure what to make of the lizard's blushing. Had he embarrassed him with his offer? Had the lizard been thinking about it and he didn't want Viviane to know what his thoughts had been? He felt slightly bad, he knew at least that he didn't really like to be blushing as much as he had been the past few mins, he was sure such a creature as a Golfam probably felt the same. Besides, that region had a bit of a bad ass reputation to uphold. Blushing really wouldn't do that. But Viviane knew almost right away that Damien was not like all other Golfams. His tail curled uncomfortibly before he spoke again, "Why is it that you care so much about me? You're probably the only man who has ever refused me." he said, though not in a manner that would suggest he was offended, because he wasn't. He just...didn't know how anyone could care about him enough to refuse free sex. He sighed internally, maybe he really had become bitter, if he expected everyone to just take sex from him on a whim.
"If I was to share a bed with you, I would probably feel fairly safe, after what you have just said." he added, though in honesty, he didn't really know why he felt compelled to say such a thing. Maybe because it was true? Maybe he was trying to pay a compliment? The lizard had surely shown him kindness equal to Roxanne..which was hard to come by.
Viviane cocked his head slightly, "What exactly did you have in mind? It's alright, it's not silly, I'm happy to repay you..." he said in earnest.
