Vesper was always a light sleeper. Sometimes being heavily intoxicated could fix that, but if the hangover set in while she was sleeping than it could go the other way. At times like that, a scuff on the floor or a cricket chirping could wake her up let alone Radz's loudly spoken wake up call.
The rat mix groaned and placed her paws over her head for a moment. She was up but everything was throbbing now. Everything.
After a couple seconds she slowly peeled open her good eye and watched Radz for a second. "Nn, thanks for letting me crash here." Still groggy but awake, Vesper slowly attempted to climb to her feet. A little vertigo but the world was quick to straighten out and all she was left with was the usual blinding headache and a knot in her stomach. Not too shabby.
Slowly she stretched and worked the kinks out of her muscles and then looked once more to Radz. "So, am I supposed to check in again or something about the ointments you put on me?" All these considered she felt a lot better already, but she wasn't really sure what his grand scientific plan for her had been.

Ah yes. The ointments. He had almost forgotten in his hurry to get her out. He didn't want to run late, otherwise his parents would have gotten suspicious. "Yes, if you don't mind could you come by in a week that would be fantastic. Of course if you feel a burning sensation, please come back sooner. That could be a rather bad sign."
He gave her a rather bright smile. At least that was what he assumed since he was facing her general direction. He hoped that she got the point. "I wish we could at least accompany you a bit of the way, you seemed rather out of it last night. And... I apologize for my sister's behavior."
"Don't you dare apologize for me," Eurwen said from half way across the room. "I'm not sorry about anything."
The mouse mix snorted with a shrug. "I hope to see you soon Vesper."

Vesper liked this guy.
She'd liked him from pretty early on. He was interesting and he didn't treat her like the biggest scum on earth. Even the few friends and interests she did have didn't treat her as kindly as he did. It was different and Vesper found she liked it. She didn't feel judged. Then again, maybe it was the lack of eyes.
Quickly shaking off her thoughts, Vesper grinned. "I'll be sure to remember that. I don't need to be loosing any more than what I already have." Her brother would throw a fit if she did.
The attempted apology caused Vesper to snort before slowly laughing. "Yeah, yeah. I don't mind. No one likes Lowlanders." The rat stretched a little more, found that she wasn't as wobbly as she expected and took a few casual steps to the door. "Besides, no one's ever helped me out like that before. Doin' that alone means more than what she could say." Vesper didn't usually say nice things to people, but Radz had been nothing but friendly. "I hope so too. Thanks again, Radz. You too, Eruwen."
Vesper honestly thought that would be harder than it really was. Being nice to someone other than Brokat, even with a hangover, wasn't all that hard when she put her mind to it.
(We can skip ahead if you'd like, to the week after? Or we can close up here and start something new?)

Time came and went and the mouse hybrid eagerly awaited the Lowlander mix's return. He seemed rather cheerful, if a little worried over it. He wanted to know how the experiment went--if anything happened at all. And... she seemed interesting. Not like he could place why really, but she wasn't like most of the girls he had run into.
Eurwen thought it was silly, after all it wasn't like that rat had any real interest or obligation to see them. She was probably going to forget about it. A Lowlander was a Lowlander even if they were only in part. And she honestly didn't want her brother associating with such a nasty thing like that. Who knew what sort of nasty stuff she had?
She was supposed to show up in a few days, or today. It wasn't as if Radz had been specif about the date. He could only hope.
"She's not coming, you know?" Eurwen snorted.

This was not what Vesper had expected - hit and miss benefits with a side order of unpleasant rash. Luckily Vesper was good with bandages and was able to cover up the more unsightly areas for the time being and, since there was no major burning, was able to ride out the week without too much hassle. Now, however, she was eager to relocate the little scientist and verify that these things were normal or... something.
Despite the itching, Vesper was in a good mood.
Since she'd run into Radz that night she'd been surprisingly less bitter about everything and, even more surprisingly, she was sober as she made her way to the young scientist's makeshift lab. It'd be intriguing to see if she liked his company as much without the buffer of being seriously intoxicated.
As was her luck, she arrived just in time to catch Eurwen's comment. Rolling her eyes, Vesper cleared her throat. "I really hope you're talking about me, so I can ruin the moment 'n' all." The ratdog grinned, her buck teeth showing awkwardly in her smirk. "So, yeah... 'ey, I'm here..." Surprisingly, his lack of eyes still didn't bother her, even while she was sober. "Most of the wounds healed up real nice, Radz, but uhhh, others appear to have developed an unpleasant rash... That seems bad to me, but I'm not the doctor."
Vesper wasn't used to dealing with people sober, especially not when she intended to talk to them again, and she found herself spitting out her words before she could double back and say something stupid to get her thrown out of their presence. Sometimes she had a masochistic streak that made her do idiotic things like that when she started to think she was enjoying someone's company too much.

The siblings both jumped at the sound of Vesper's voice. Eurwen snapped around, her ears pressed against her skull. Unbelievable. She came back. The little mouse snorted. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the rat mix in front of her. So all the medicine didn't work.
Radzimierz had turned around, the empty eye sockets widening a bit with surprise. He recovered fairly quickly as his tail twitched at her words. "A rash?" he repeated. Damn, that meant that the medication he had used didn't work properly. "Sister could you?"
"Yeah yeah yeah," Eurwen muttered as she skitter off to grab some supplies to treat the rash and record the data.
"I'm quite sorry about the rash, it was a very low chance that the medicine would actually give you one. I suppose, though, I should rework the formula." The Corvie frowned as he speculated what could possibly be wrong. "Besides that do you have any other unusual side effects?"

Vesper choked back a giggle as Eurwen and Radzimierz jumped. It was hilarious but it probably wasn't polite to laugh at your doctor or his assistant that obviously didn't think much of your to begin with. She'd keep her amusement to herself.
"The rashes are little, nothing worse than I'm used to after a fight. Usually I feel banged up for a lot longer than I did this time." Whether it was his balms or the fact that she spent the night in a makeshift bed instead of a cold gutter that had made the difference Vesper wasn't really sure, but she was thankful for it nevertheless. "I suppose the worst of it is that my wound is a bit more tender than usual... not sure what to make of that, it doesn't really hurt or sting or anything." Vesper's tail curled up behind her and the ratdog smiled, though she assumed Radz couldn't see it. "Thanks again for doing this for me. Have I at least been helpful for your experiments and what have you?"

Radzimierz's ears swiveled forward to listen to the rat-dog speak. What she was saying was encouraging, except for the tenderness. That meant that obviously the formula he had used had done absolutely nothing beneficial for the wound.
Well, he hardly expected anything amazing. It was a Lowlander wound after all.
Of course, Radz had no idea how to take the compliment that she dished out. "Ah... You're welcome I suppose. It just seemed like the right thing to do." He shrugged.
Eurwen meanwhile was busy getting the information she needed while preparing the new medication. "You just proved that my brother has a long road ahead of him," She snorted as she tossed the medication at the rat. "Just put this on the rash. You should be fine in two days. And don't put any on your open wound. That should go away naturally."

Vesper grinned, almost pleased to have caught Radzimierz off guard. It was sort of fun to leave someone speechless in a good way, usually the only sort of speechlessness she inspired was the sort that was accompanied by spitting rage. Or pitiful despondence like that silly batboy she'd been sharing an apartment with.
"People usually have a whole different sense of what's 'right' and 'wrong' when it comes to Lowlanders, even partial Lowlanders..." Eurwen tossed the medication to Vesper before the rat mix could continue and she was cut short as she snatched the ointments up in her dexterous paws. "Thanks."
How... awkward.
Suddenly Vesper realized that, although she had the ointment, she wasn't quite ready to leave. She unexpectedly appreciated Radz's company but she was certain that neither he nor his sister would really want to spend more time than necessary with a Lowlander.
"So, ah... Is that all then?" She muttered, trying hard not to sound so awkward though she probably only succeeded in sounding slightly gruff. Great, what an awesome way to try and make friends. It was obvious just how often she tried to do that.

Vesper wasn't the only one who didn't get the whole friend thing. Radz wasn't particularly skilled at making friends with people. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that he was blind. Or perhaps it had something to do with his sister. Either way the moment felt awkward for him as well.
A very large part of him wanted her to stay and visit again. "Yes, that's all for now. But don't hesitate to come back... I mean my specialty is medicine really. I like to see what happens to different wounds when I created different formulas and we could always try to make you... less of a Lowlander."
Eurwen could see right through every word he was saying. Her cheeks puffed up as she held her breath for a few moments. She wanted nothing to do with this nasty dirty Lowland rat. "For now though you can leave. We have things to do and you're in the way."
