The mouse gave a grin as well as the King collapsed in his chair and took up the offer of coffee. So it seemed that Bernard was someone who also loved coffee with a passion? Good, good.
When the Heart King’s niece decided to join them he gave her a welcoming smile. “Wonderful to meet you as well, Your Majesty, please do join us” he said inclining his head to the other empty chair before waving a hand to the coffee as an invitation. He was not quite sure if the Queen would want to drink any, but it would not hurt to offer anyway, right? In his opinion everyone should drink it . . . well some less frequently then others, he amended thinking back on his nephews-of-sorts.
Eyeing the two Kings over the brim of his coffee cup he smiled to himself. It was good to see that Anoushka was actually able to get along with other people. Flashing a smile to the canine, though he certainly was not trying to ignore Bernard in any fashion, he asked, “First time viewing the other Courts, huh? So tell me wot do you think of the Club Court so far?” He was interested to hear what the canine-mix had to say.

Bernard took a sip of the coffee, very rich. Dark and bitter...it jolted his senses and was really quite a blessing. He returned the Queen's smile and watched as he interacted with his niece. Well, good Lani would need the chance to interact with another Queen in power.
He turned to Anoushka and feigned relief.
"Oh, good, you know I had so hoped I wouldn't be receiving a letter-bomb." He said with a grin and an eyebrow flip. "But I love tempting fate, so I brought you another one with some more variety this time, have you ever had a sampling of fruits and cheeses from the Selkie Lakes? Fantastic, I assure you."
He smiled and kept an ear open to the conversation between the two Queens as well...waiting for an invitation back into that strain of conversation...and wanting to see how Lani would hold up.

Anoushka snorted and nearly tossed her coffee in the man's lap just to show him how dangerous it could be to tempt fate, but refrained because of two reasons. One, he had brought her more of those tasty little snacks. Two, she really wanted to finish the coffee. There was just the right balance of honey and warmth. It would be such a shame to waste it on his pants.
Rather than say all that, she just shrugged and smirked. "Bold of you, and I rather like the idea you present. A bomb in a letter... I haven't done anything like that in years. Perhaps it's time. Thank you very much for the suggestion, Bernard. You only encourage me, naughty man." The smirk widened and she sipped at her coffee, satisfied enough with the exchange for now. She would hoard the basket of goodies, that was for certain.
Lani accepted the cup of coffee with a grin and took one or two sips before the sezzy Queen asked her a question. "Thanks much for the seat, Your Majesty. You have quite the nice garden starting here. The rosebuds are just adorable." The way she phrased it, probably only her uncle would hear the implied 'aww, baby roses, what a cute attempt!' She wasn't nearly stupid enough to say anything like that aloud. "The guest room was nice, big bed and all that... plenty of room to roll around." She coughed, grinned, and lapped at her coffee. Not hitting on him at all, but she was having fun.

He chuckled at her comments. “You should ask your Queen Shinrai about the rose garden sometime.” He replied before taking a sip of coffee, mischief written all over his face. He doubted the horse would ever tell her –or anyone- the long story behind it, as entertaining as it was to the mouse, but it would be amusing to see if she was stubborn enough to get the horse to open up. His friend needed to let loose some.
Catching some of the two King’s conversation he turned back to them. Bombs? That was definitely an interesting choice of conversation. It was pretty apparent from the easy air around the table that the two Kings were good acquaintances.
“As long as none of those letters are aimed at me, I know nothing of the sort if one shows up on someone’s doorstep.” The mouse replied, his tone completely serious but his eyes betraying his complete amusement in the idea.

"Yes well...giving you ideas seems to be my forte."
He gave the Wolf a grin, but raised an eyebrow at the use of the term naughty...what in all the Highland Hills did she mean by that?
He could tell that Lani's compliment was a well-disguised jab, but he didn't let on that he had understood...that would be disastrous, to say the least...instead he focused on the Queen's response to his niece... Queen Aderlass seemed quite the gentleman, for all his erm...clothing choices were flamboyant.
He would make a note to ask his Queen about the roses...it promised to be a rather interesting story...provided he could worm it out of the paranoid Equine...
"They won't be aimed at anyone here if I'm the one with any say." Bernard responded with a small shrug, a grin twitching at the corner of his mouth. "However if you open something and it turns you neon pink for the day, it might have been me."
He leaned back in the chair a little and watched the Club Queen, he would let Lani and Aderlass get a little more settled, then see if they were ready to get down to business.

Anoushka smirked and swirled her coffee for a moment. "Oh, no vorries, Aderlass. Your doorstep and my doorstep are von and the same, so you remain safe from my mischief. Bernard's, however, I cannot attest to." Golden eyes flicked to the older human, still amused but sharpening. "However, if I ever find my fur turning any color other than its natural dark and purple hues, I vill know to come and find you. And ve vill chat. Perhaps out a vindow."
The young Queen lapped at her coffee, half-listening to the two Kings banter in extreme amusement. She hadn't realized her uncle was on decent terms with the wolf-bitch. It wasn't nearly so bad in the woman's own Court, it seemed, than it was when she went visiting. "I'll be sure to go and ask the Queen when we get back," she said, tone laced with with something between curiosity and the grin she was wearing. What on earth could that story be?

“I can assure you that I do not look the least bit flattering in pink, so that is probably just as bad as a bomb” the mouse replied to the Heart King with a frown though not any less joking. At Anoushka’s reply the mouse gave an outright laugh. He did not put it past his King to do just a thing. It would definitely be something quite entertaining and both Courts were sure to be chatty with it.
Taking a sip from his coffee he pondered what to discus next, maybe Bernard or Lani had a question for him to answer? He was definitely enjoying the company, something that he had been extremely worried of. There was nothing like having to deal with important people who were all about formality. Sure, sure they should be followed and came with the position; still you really got to know someone over a good cup of coffee.

"Heh, no worries, Anoushka. I won't be pushing you that far ever again, you have my word, after the tussle I had, I wouldn't be surviving your...window chats any more."
Bernard said ruefully, certain that, if Anoushka didn't know what he meant she would push for it...but he was pretty sure she already knew...she knew a lot of things that he didn't figure she should.
He watched the Queen sit back and relax a bit. Fantastic, this was going rather well, far better than he had expected, this Aderlass was quite pleasant to deal with insofar.
"I don't think that many besides the Yarrows do, your majesty, I'll be certain to send something more flattering."
He grinned and took another sip of his coffee, enough then.
"So, I have a question, your Majesty. The friendship between yourself and my Queen Rai...is it long standing? I've mainly come on the basis of connecting the Courts politically at the very least as well as you two are connected as friends."
He took another sip of coffee and dearly wished he had a small tumbler of something alcoholic to add to it.
"Private friendships tend to make the people living in and around the Court uneasy, it may even make common Clubs and those living great distances away feel betrayed and wary of their own Court, as with ours. I've watched it happen once before, had you heard of Mrethkae? Mother of Cerevanna, the former Queen of Diamonds, she was removed from power by a mob of Diamond commoners for having "unduly close relations" with the former Queen of Spades."
He shrugged a little and let his gaze dart around the table, observing expressions...he didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable but...this was necessary.
"If there's anything we can do to make this friendship appear political, it will still make those outside of the Court grumble, I can guarantee it, but perhaps they will not be up in arms over the situation."

Tilting his head to the side he gave a moment of thought to the King’s question. How long? He had never really considered it before, just letting the years pass by. “I am not sure I can rightly say . . . it has to be more then ten years,” Hills he had known the equine before the kids had been born, having found him outside of the pub that one night. “Our friendship has been through a lot, so I can assure you that it would take something quite big to dent it.” Not to mention that the Heart Queen had helped him out during his pregnancy and was now helping raise the child. Paying close attention to the King’s words he gave an internal grin. Well, it looked like this meeting was going to be very interesting indeed. “I am pretty sure something could be worked out then. With the recent upsettings,” he said meaning the recent changes in power of the three courts, “Now would seem like a very opportune moment to make sure that the people feel . . . like well, that their Court is taking care of the situations and them.” Taking a sip from his coffee he hid a small wince. He really was not the smoothest with word sometimes and so he sincerely hoped that Anoushka would add or nudge anything into the direction he had meant it to mean. He really was interested in creating a political tie with the Heart Court after all. He was more then aware of what the Hearts thought of him and his Clubs, but he was just as aware of how high up the Hearts were considered in power. Any ties with them could be just the thing to protect or help his people in the end. ((Ader: Clubs ftw! (^ _ ^)y *sticks tongue out at Rai teasingly* Me: Sorry < <;)

Anoushka listened to her Queen speak and worked not to smile at his wording. It was quite amusing, but the issue at hand really wasn't. "I remember that whole mess vith Mrethkae," she murmured. "That on top of having an Ace, it just destroyed her mind and spirit. Nasty business, all of it."
One of the reasons she'd had the chat with Bernard about their Queens' closeness was precisely because neither of them wanted something like that to befall their Courts, nor would they allow it to. Unlike that fat idiot Vestra, she took an interest in the doings of her Court, and unlike Varestes, though she liked him well enough, she refused to abandon things at the first sign of a bit of work ahead. "It vould be... nice to have peace for a little vhile. I'm sure it vould vork vonders for the economy if ve could get a few things smoothed over and trade vere to benefit as a result." It might even get a few more people politically-minded and help to boost the Clubs' palace ranks, which they very much needed.
Lani was now slightly less interested in the proceedings and just watched, tossing her hair away from her face so it didn't dip down into her coffee.
