Bernard sipped at his rapidly cooling coffee as the Queen spoke. Ten years...more than that...quite the friendship, really that was quite impressive. It would be fantastic if they could manage to get the Courts established on such wonderful terms. He noted Lani flipping her hair and looking slightly bored, he ignored it for now, but he would see about sending her on an errand later.
"What with the recent upset indeed..." Bernard murmured, reaching for the coffee pot to add a little more in the hopes of heating his drink. "I would agree with you, your Majesty, what would you propose we do first? Anoushka is right to say that trade might be a good way to start, we are right on the Yarrow lines and we still have good trade relations with them...we could start a medical line of trade if you like. Perhaps that would assist with any feeling of unease in the populous?"
He sighed a little as the much warmer drink gave him a little more of a kick. Yes, this could work rather well...
Hopefully none of the common Hearts would have too much to say about it though, the last thing they needed was a hate parade in the Capitol...

Going to take a sip from his coffee he discovered that he had finished drinking it all. Arching a brow at the empty cup he blinked trying to remember just when that had happened. He made quick work to fix the problem, add liberal amounts of sugar and milk to enrich the taste. First thing in the morning consisted of a cup of coffee straight black to jump start he day, after that it was just for the high and thus the caffeine was somewhat killable.
Yarrow Gardens? Oh Suits . . .
He was not about to judge a whole people on just one of their kind but goodness knew that both himself and Queen Shinrai had met an interesting one of their kind. Mnem . . . and all her plants . . . that whole cursed apartment for that matter. From what he understood from Minh and Elyse, Mnem was now a ‘Your Highness’ and was busy with her new set task of overtaking the Diamond Court with her various plants and horrors.
. . . But that was neither here nor there, the mouse reminded himself, bringing his mind back to the task at hand.
Opening trade did sound like just the thing to start with. Hopefully the trade flow would help to create a calm and acceptance in the idea of the two courts making a political alliance, right? Small steps first.
After taking a sip and sigh at the lovely warmth it created, he replied “That does sound like just the thing to help ease unease. I am sure there are plenty of things we could also offer that would help reverse and keep any unease at bay.”

Lani was already a little bit bored with where the conversation was going. Trade? Bleh. Sure, it affected her because it affected her Court. It might also get the shops in the Capital to bump up their merchandise selection, which was always nice. Hearing politics and platitudes and all the little niggly stuff was a lot less interesting, though. She concentrated more on her coffee than she did on what they were saying. It was good stuff, whatever blend they were using. It had been well-roasted. Obviously someone in the palace was a big-time coffee person.
Listening to the King's suggestion, Anoushka's eyebrows rose in pleasure. Medicinal supplies were an excellent way to begin an alliance like this and show that peace was desired. You didn't supply enemies with means to take care of themselves. It would be a positive message. "Ah, yes, those Yarrow girls are clever vith their plants. That vould be a very good idea. In return, I'm sure ve could be a little more free vith our agricultural stockpiles in the market, encourage the grovers to expand their area of sale and influence. Some might grumble, but overall it vould be a chance for them to increase their customer base, vhich vould please the savvy among them."

Bernard nodded and smiled, relived. This sounded fully possible and plausible. It would most certainly relax the common Cards to a point where they would see the friendship as purely political and non-threatening... Well, certainly a few would still have problems but...Suits were proud...
"That would be perfect, I actually have some papers here with me so that we can make these properly legal, I left blanks for us to fill in on who will be trading skills and wares and what but...shouldn't be too hard. Lani?" He turned to his niece, catching sight f her playing with her coffee and knowing it was a good time to asked her to grab him something. "Can you run up to my room and grab my shoulder bag? I only brought this one and...sadly...I need that one too."
He gave her a mock-pleading grin, knowing she would probably leap at the chance to wander and then turned back to the Queen.
"So, do you have any questions about the Court of Hearts? Anything we've done lately that's seemed obscure, any bones you'd like to pick? I'd be happy to assist in any way I can."

At the Heart King’s response about paper work the mouse gave a blink which he quickly hid. Well the man did seem like the sort who would be well prepared for any and every situation, he supposed. As the King sent his niece to fetch is other bag, he took another drink from his coffee. Not that it was a bad thing, he supposed, it often made things much more proficient and run more smoothly. Something he had learnt after Malc has rearranged and organized his office.
“Any questions about the Court of Hearts, hm?” He paused as he thought to himself for a moment. “I can not say I particularly do. I always simply found you guys as an odd sort and after getting over the initial frustration of the opinion held of the Clubs,” he gave a small shrug fighting back some of the frustration that arose from it. “Then again, I suppose we all have our oddities. That is unless this is a limited time offer” he finished off easily.
After gaining the title he had been so busy with just keeping the Court afloat that he had not really been able to keep up with much else. Their numbers were still lacking, though slowly growing. Not to mention from the rumors alone of the previous Queen Serafino he had not really bothered to interact with the other Courts as more then needed. He did not have a death wish.

A bag? Fetch? Psh, she could do that, no problem. It would be the perfect excuse to excuse herself afterwards, too. Her uncle was always thinking ahead and had probably caught her licking at her teeth absently. She did that sometimes when she got bored, or when she wanted guys to think about something that had to do with said tongue. In this case, definitely the former.
"Sure thing, Uncle! Be right back. 'scuse me, everyone." She hopped off the chair and went to figure out where they'd put him in the palace. One of the servants could probably point her in the right direction. They talked about things like visitors, didn't they?
After the girl had gone, Anoushka smirked and laced her fingers together, resting her chin on top of them. "Bernard and I have had more than von discussion on the subject of impressions and suits. Thankfully, he does not outvardly share the opinions of the vast majority. I haven't the foggiest vhat really goes on inside that thick skull, mostly because I've never deigned to take a look"

Bernard watched Lani trot off and rolled his eye a little at Anoushka. He had complained to her once or twice about Lani's attitude...she would understand, he was sure.
getting over the initial frustration of the opinion held of the Clubs..... Oh, that....
"Ah, yes...Heart pride. I must admit to being disappointed that most of the Hearts I see walk around with egos larger than their brains...but...what can you do?" He shrugged and looked slightly annoyed. "Yes, Anoushka and I have had a few discussions about that...mostly centered on how I can make Hearts less...oh what was the term you used? He turned and gave the Wolf a slight grin. "Fucking retarded? I believe that was the charming turn of phrase." He laughed, shaking his head.
"Hills, if only I knew...I would find a potion and give everyone a hearty dose...including myself. As to it being a limited time offer, no of course not, you should feel free to bother me whenever you please, your Majesty."
He gave Aderlass another slight bow as he said so, hoping the gesture would be taken with sincerity...he really would rather that any questions were addressed to him directly...and he would like to help.
"I also wanted to address to you, your Majesty, the question of how you want to go about sending out diplomats to the areas where we are currently deciding on new trade. It's not the best idea for yourself or Queen Rai to attend in person...as I can assure you some people would disagree with our...status of friendship. Nor would it be the best idea for Anoushka or myself to go. Do you have any Cards in mind who might be best able to carry out the job?"

He chuckled at the Heart King’s use of Anoushka’s charming language. “Anoushka has a very charming tongue, I must admit.” When he had first meet the King he had been very leery about her, but time spent around her had slowly warmed him up to her uniqueness.
Rotating the cup in his hands slowly he stared down at it as he continued. “Unfortunately it is not something that can easily be changed and some people will never see I differently. However, it also seems that if one does not at least attempt to do anything to change the view then well . . . there will be no changing at all.”
It was definitely good to hear that the King’s offer was not on a limited time offer. “That is good to hear and if any questions come to mind then I shall make sure to ask” He replied, giving the King a friendly smile. It was really good to know that there was at least someone who was willing to be friendly and helpful. He could only help that he would be able to repay the kindness.
“A diplomat, huh?” glancing to the side he gave the question a sincere thought. “Well I do have to admit that there is someone who comes to mind that would be perfect for the job, though, I would have to check to make sure that he is not currently assigned to another purpose. If not well then I am sure that I will be able to find someone who would do well to represent the Clubs for sure.”

Anoushka cackled, the sound coming more from her chest than anything, at his turn of phrase. Well, really, at hers coming out of his King-of-Hearts mouth. Wasn't that just rich? "The man speaks the truth, yes... and aren't I alvays the charmer." She bared her teeth in a grin, the expression decidedly un-ladylike. As if she'd ever been anything but, her mother be damned. That woman had been the reason she left Torquehelm in the first place nearly forty-five years ago, and wasn't she glad that she had.
"A diplomat, though... I assume there vould be von from the other Courts as vell, since any meeting betveen just the two of us over something as 'close' as trade relations vould be regarded vith the highest of suspicion by certain minds. Also, I think Vestra vould send us a hurt letter and Varestes vould pout at being left out of the arrangements. Ve can't have the young man doing anything so unattractive." She snorted and shook her head. "This vill likely be a bigger meeting than just us. Imagine it, though, organizing something of such a nature... it hasn't been done in years."
Lani had managed to find her uncle's room with a lot less trouble than she'd thought, the servant actually going out of his way to take her there and let her in so she could sling the bag over her shoulder and trot on down. She approached the table and cleared her throat 'politely' so that they knew she was there in case they were talking about anything super-boring, aka. 'confidential'. Trade relations. Bleh. "Uncle, here's your bag. If you don't mind, I'm going to skip out for a little while and check out the palace so you can have your official business, yeah? Just send somebody to find me if you need me, though, or if lunch happens." She ended it with a polite enough dip of her head to present company and left.
After she left, Anoushka looked somewhat thoughtful. "I might have somevon in mind as vell. If the pair of you vill excuse me, I think I'm going to check on that..."
((If permission's given, she's skipping out. <3 To go and check her leads, etc. The rest is up to you two!))
