Bernard managed a laugh, even though it pained him physically, it felt good to laugh. Her hints of things she had brought back for simultaneously startled and delighted him. She had brought things back for him? Journals...things to blow up?
"Really? You did? Journals? From where in the bog? Written by outsiders...wow, I'll need to see those, wait...what could I blow up?"
Excited he propped himself back up, hoping she would manage to bring those back by this evening so that he would have something to read tonight...that would make the evening far more bearable...
"Ah, no. I didn't actually think you'd be going very far in the near future."
He smiled, slightly wistfully, his eye drifting to the Bat and seeming to pull him back into the conversation. Especially at the Bat's response.
"Good god...I haven't been there in so long, I can't believe I hadn't told you, Heilyn. Anyway, Seth...sorry, my mind's wandering...painkillers...ugh. No, some things never do change. Did the Northern half release the hounds? I was actually chased out by one, if it hadn't been for a Diamond friend of mine it would have eaten me...fascinating... Do they still use those, though? I had wondered, it's been awhile and the beasts must all be so badly inbred by now."
He chuckled again...he rather liked the Bat...good thing too, he was pleased to see that Heilyn had apparently nabbed herself a good prospect, Spade or no.
"I would love to talk to the two of you again if you have the time."
He said, to the two of them, but focusing on Heilyn.
"I know you have better things to do with your day then talk to scrawny, old bookworms but...if you get the urge, please drop in. Seth it was really a pleasure to meet you, Heilyn...it's always a delight to talk to you. I'll need to hear how things actually went later."
He smiled at the two of them, still aware of the Corvistowne mix behind him in his blind spot, waiting...poor Severus...he never had taken well to most other people...
He was truly happy that Heilyn had come to see him, and that he had gotten to meet Seth, glad that she was happy....
Damn that infection...he wanted to see what on earth she could have brought back for him to blow up...

Severus calmed down enough so that he was no longer quietly hyperventalating with rage. Indeed, he kept whatever offence he felt to himself. Now was not the time, in his mind, to let his temper get away with him as it did from time to time. He strived to keep a cool exterior, but sometimes the rudeness of others was just...intolerable, and not having any proper role-models growing up (save for the moments he spent with Bernard when not busying himself with Jack duties as a young man), he often returned rudeness (or what he thought was rudeness) with his own special brew of it. It often escalated, and got taken to far. Ah...what socialization could have done for him...
At any rate, he ignored the uneasy gestures sent his way, instead listening intently to what the trio were talking about. To be painfully honest, which truthfully embarrassed him, he didn't know very much about the Glaciers or the Bog. They were not regions talked about often in his youth, and only more recently did he actually find out anything about them. One day he would have to travel and see these places for himself, but for now he was far to busy with court duties...and his own chemical studies.
When the Coyote spoke of him like he wasn't right behind her, he nearly rolled his eyes, but successfully managed to hold himself back. "By all means...I do not mind waiting. Besides, I am also finding myself curious about Bernard's travels within the Glacier Region." he said with a bit of a bow of his head to the Jack, as if to say that he ment no harm, though...his voice held a tinge of annoyance and it's natural condecending flare. He seemed nearly incapable of speaking any other way, and the Coyote would probably be able to pick up that it was just naturally the way he spoke. How she felt about it would be another matter entirely. "That is...if you are well enough to tell us a bit..." he said addressing Bernard, deciding that it would be rude to speak to him in sight of his naked socket and steping to the side so that the man could actually see him with his remaining eye.

Heilyn was severely amused by Seth's remark, but even as kind and understanding as Bernard was, that comment was really not terribly appropriate. She gave him a look, but turned back to Bernard, pleased, when she saw he had corrected himself. So he was teachable. Good boy. GAH! Heilyn reached over and gently, but firmly, made Bernard lay back down. In her distraction, he'd moved!
"The journals were written by the people who would become the Bog Dwellers. I will bring them by this evening," I'll have Seth bring them by, she thought. Many of the Court severely disliked his Spade presence in the Heart court. Perhaps by endearing him to one of the more powerful members of the Court, he would be more widely accepted. She would have to fight for his permanent residency in the Court... She gave a smug smirk. "As for what I've brought back for you to inevitably blow up... well, you'll just have to wait and find out, now won't you?" And ear twitched at the next comment.
"Ok, one, I enjoy the time spent with said scrawny book-worm, and two, I don't call you that... much," she was relaxing a fair amount now. Having a sense of humor meant he was physically doing better, but a thought crossed her head that made her very afraid.
What he'd done was very irrational. Justified, but irrational. Leaving the Court grounds in hot blood while a crisis had gone on and was unresolved. Could he be kicked out on the streets for that...? Her face remained pleasant, but she thought of his now missing suit and rank... No one would know his rank... God, she feared for him.... She hoped to every God she could name that the new Queen would look past that moment and onto the years of service the man has given in the past... She was so happy keep Seth in her suite. She would need some severe comfort after this, holding and petting the fluffy beast that was the father of her children, and having the favor returned. For a Solandrian assassin, it was incredible how very gentle and sweet he could be.
Her head whipped around to the Corvistowne mix that had spoken. She would've growled if it wasn't so very inappropriate. She owed her head back as respectfully as she could back. "I'm afraid I'll have to pass for now. My own condition calls for rest. Bernard, get well, please. The Court will be terribly lonely without you," she got up from the seat and odd, piercing yellow eyes met Severus' dark ones. Crap! She'd been hoping to avoid eye contact, but she was very preoccupied and hadn't noticed him move. She gave a shallow, but semi-respectable bow, just to not be completely rude. "I hope our next meeting is under better circumstances... Seth," she called to him softly, leaving the room, her gait a little less graceful than it once was due to the added weight. She gave one last look back to smile and give a curt nod at Bernard before she left, Seth in tow. She would be back to visit him as often as possible. But for now, she was very tired, having missed sleep due to nerves, and she was positive more people would come in to visit Bernard and would, inevitably, talk to her if she'd stayed in the room. She ran a few fingers through Seth's mane as they walked down the hall.

Seth gave a small and involuntary shudder at Bernard's mention of the hounds, his expression saying everything. "You're a very lucky man, Highness. Escape from them is... almost unheard of. Actually, I left at the first mention of their use. I had been around when the old governor decided to use them...[/b]" his voice trailed off slightly and he shook his head, fur bristling with the memory. Seth had never been one to effectively hide his emotions, and the memory of those... creatures was enough to make him feel nervous all over again. "I think that the more inbred the creatures get, the scarier they become, honestly. They certainly get more mentally unstable.[/b]"
Seth looked up at Heilyn, blinking slightly before glancing back at the Corvistowne mix. He wasn't about to try and argue with the coyote, however, and so he simply shrugged. With the way things were going, he was sure that
He couldn't help but grin slightly when she said his name. For some reason, it just sounded better when she did. "Lyn,[/b]" he replied, a touch of fondness in his voice. Remembering himself, he turned back to the bedridden King, giving the man a respectful bow. "I wish you the speediest of recoveries. I'll be back by later tonight, if it's not too much trouble, to deliver to you those books.[/b]"
He stood, standing duitifully at the coyote's side, then turning to leave with her. He could feel her nerves, and would do his best to help soothe them.

Bernard laughed at the Coyote's comments...didn't call him that much...who was she kidding?
"All right, I'll wait to see what you've brought for me to blow up...only because you've asked so nicely, mind."
He then turned to Seth, listening to his reply...he would have to talk to this Bat more later...he needed to know more about the Glaciers, he hadn't been able to learn as much as he had hoped.
"They certainly were something...I don't even know what they're supposed to be...Aces, maybe?"
He shrugged, then regretted the action as it made his side sting horribly.
Lyn...
Bernard nearly started when the Bat said that....it took him a few seconds to realize that he had shortened Heilyn's name...not Lin...
He covered it up as best he could, smiling and nodding to the two of them as Heilyn pushed him back down.
"All right, I'll rest if you will, Seth, I would love to see you again this evening...and those journals...Thank you for the well wishes. Goodbye, Heilyn."
He smiled faintly as the two got up to leave, sensing, though unable to see the movement on his other side. The King turned his head as best he could, still smiling.
"Severus?"
He finally managed to catch sight of the mix, and couldn't help but be worried by his expression.
"Good to see you, sorry about that...it'd been so long since I'd seen Heilyn."
He managed a dry chuckle at Severus's words.
"If you're interested in my travels to the Glaciers then sure, I'll tell you what I know, but like I said, I was chased out before I could find out much."

(( OOC: >_>; ahem. Hope you don't mind a visit from Ceiling Cat ))Peaches was being good for once in her life. She was waiting outside of the room until people evacuated. Of course, she wasn't waiting outside the door like a normal person--that was just silly. She was waiting on the ceiling where no one bothered to look up. Non-observant people were made of love. Honestly, if someone caught her hanging upside down with a massive fruit basket and giving the world a rather obvious pantie shot, she would have died a bit inside. Or fallen off the ceiling. Either would have been pretty bad. With a sigh she shifted the weight of the fruit basket. She wanted to do this, but she was bad about.... being socially normal around anyone she actually gave a damn about. The woman was pretty convinced that Bernard hated her, with the whole window thing and licking thing. On time after enough she just screwed up. Hopefully a fruit basket would be enough to make up for her past slip ups, and maybe she wouldn't be so idiotic this time around. Oh, she doubted that.

Severus simply nodded his head to the two retreating figures of the Coyote and the Bat. One would have to be blind not to be able to tell that the Coyote was uneasy, but still that was no excuse for Severus. He was almost more appreciative of the bats neutrality to all this, then he was to the Coyote's obvious discomfort in his direction, making him feel unwelcome where he shouldn't. He wanted to snort, wanted to do something subtle to show his displeasure, but it wasn't the place or time for something of that nature. Besides, he was sure Bernard wouldn't appreciate quarreling among friends, even if Severus wasn't particularly fond of her already. "Indeed." Severus said to Heilyn's curt parting.
He watched them leave, before turning back to Bernard. Suddenly the situation seemed more awkward then when there were several people about. He stood where he was for quite some time before, like an unsure child, he came to stand at Bernard's side, where he could see him with his good eye. He shook his head at the man's appology, "They arrived here before myself. I had no problem waiting." indeed, it really was just...guh. He put it out of his mind entirely.
There was a part of him that wanted to hug the man, and tell him how glad he was that he had come back alive, and thats probably why the moment seemed so awkward. Severus was never one to show any sort of affection, he didn't do it as a child, and even now he didn't. He touched his forhead a bit and cleared his throat, was he ill? Such an impulse was strange, so he did not indulge himself in it. Instead he was glad that Bernard had offered to tell him about the Glaciers. It would keep his mind occupied with something else.
"I must admit that I am sadly lacking in knowledge of the Glaciers...and even the Bogs....They were not mentioned very much in my childhood, and I had not found books on either since more recently. Any knowledge you have to spare would be more helpful then nothing at all." ah, that was really the only language that Severus seemed to be able to speak. Knowledge.

Neither noticed the Cat on the ceiling, hidden in shadow under the eaves.
Bernard nodded as Severus told him the wait had been nothing, though he knew it must have been awkward for him. Severus looked...anxious? He wasn't sure how to describe it.
He reached out a hand and touched the Corvie's own.
"It really is good to see you, you know. I had wondered how you were getting on, have you been able to talk to Queen Rai yet?
He smiled weakly, knowing that he would have to do that soon as well...and hoping he wouldn't be chucked out.
"Ah, the Glaciers...they were something, you have to wear enough clothing to nearly smother you, I nearly ended up with frostbite on the first day. But it was pretty amazing, the colors when the sun sets...I can barely describe it, it's amazing...nearly blinding when the sun hits the snow."
He looked thoughtful, then smiled a bit more happily.
"You know, I do actually have the journals I kept from my travels there upstairs, you know how to get into my office, they're on the far right shelf, the three bright green bound books."
He lay back, trying to rest... He would have to meet with Queen Rai soon...he wished he hadn;t brought it up, he didn't want to think about it...he couldn't help but be afraid...he barely knew the Equine.
"Is there anything I can help you with when I get back on my feet, Severus?"

Severus might have heard a rustling noise at one point, flicking his ear slightly, but whatever had produced it certainly didn't weigh in his mind as it quickly left it. The Cat remained completely unnoticed.
Indeed, the moment Bernard touched his hand, most everything else was forgotten. To say that Severus was a prude man would be an understatement. It was enough to tell from the way he guarded his emotions and the clothes that he wore, not to mention the fact he never really showed affection except by...well...talking to you a little more then usual, that he was often uncomfortible with interactions with people. It would be something he would have to become better with if he wanted to attain the dreams he did. His ears flicked up in the suddeness of the gesture, making him just for a moment look like a deer in the headlights before they went back down the way he normally held them. He went about as if it never happened.
"I have to admit...it gives me great relief to see you.....I am...deeply sorry." he looked away a bit, as if indicating that the moment was getting a little more then uncomfortible and awkward for him, before looking back. "I...Well, I suppose...I'm doing alright. But no, I have yet to speak with Queen Rai. I ment to speak with him when he was still just a King, because...to be honest...I haven't even met him. But...studies got in the way." he allowed his face to show a bit of anxiety. This simple fact pretty much ment that the chances of him becoming the Queen's King were next to none. He knew that this must be something that was troubling Bernard...but he would get to that part later.
The man began speaking of the Glaciers, and he was intent on listening. He noded a bit. "One could argue that I already wear enough to smother me." was that a jab at humor? "I will certainly go and look at your travel journals. I am very curious. Maybe one day I will find the time to visit places like that." He thought about the way Bernard had discribed the sunset. "Maybe you could even come with me."
He thought about the man's last question. He thought about it hard, wondering if maybe it would be asking to much. "You know it has always been my goal to become a Queen here in the courts. I'm hoping that I might be able to gain such a title. Would....would you help me prepare for such a step?"
