[OOC: Sorry you guys ^^; just wanted to get my leaving post in...but continue on as if this happened earlier XD;] Severus' eyes slanted dangerously at the order. He didn't like the man's tone, especially with the way Bernard was so vulnerable. He had no doubt in his mind that the man often acted like this, and for some reason didn't take it as much of an insult, but worry did stem. He looked at Bernard, as if to say should I stay? when the man quickly answered his question. He noded silently to Bernard, still feeling uneasy, but he would do what the other asked. They could always talk more later...and whatever this cat had to say...was obviously important. He snorted a bit as he began to leave Bernard's side, his strides sure and his eyes continued to be narrowed as he passed by the man. He couldn't help but glance sideways at him as he passed. No...the man wouldn't try anything...and he certainly wasn't threatening him, but to say that he had enjoyed meeting him probably would have been a lie. Ah well, none of his initial meetings seemed to be going well lately. Maybe they would get better as time went on. He was still getting used to the socializing bit...not that anyone seemed to want to go out of their way to meet him....it often seemed quite the opposite. But he supposed he couldn't really blame them. He didn't exactly jump up to go meet anyone either. With a last look at Bernard he left the room and started heading down the hall, keeping his ears backwards so he could listen as he left.

Pravus felt the light touch at his elbow, and as if a gate was opened in him a few tears began to fall down his face. His Queen. . . was truly. . . A sob wrenched itself from his throat, hands clutching at his face a bit harder. He let go suddenly and looked up with sorrow so deep and painful on his face. The cat knew if this is how he felt. . he couldn't even imagine Bernard's pain. He had no right to come here, to try and make himself feel better when Bernard was the one who probably needed more help than he.
"Neither of us. . . we couldn't have. . . " More tears streamed down his face, his breathing somewhat ragged now. "Oh god, he's gone isn't he?"
Was it seriously just now he was actually realizing this? Did he really have to see how badly beaten his Queen's uncle was, to realize it was real. And here Pravus sat, completely healthy and whole. He had done nothing, endured nothing for Fino's death. A hand raised slowly as if to trace the wounds on Bernard's face, but he let it drop.
"I really shouldn't have come. . ."

Bernard watched the Cat tense up slightly and pulled his hand back, anticipating a swipe...but then the Cat's face fell...
Oh god...
Bernard struggled again to sit up, trying to ignore the pain in his side and catching his breath slightly in a hiss. The cat whimpered, and then began to cry in earnest....
Oh god, he's gone isn't he?
"Yes...yes I'm sorry, he is...I-"
He leaned forward and hugged the man as best he could. So this was what Serafino had come to love...this was Pravus? Bernard concentrated on his ignore pain ability, pretending he didn't realize that he would need it later, so that he couldn't feel the odd grinding sensation of his broken ribs rubbing together, or the sighing sound of stitches pulled taut.
He caught the hand that fell and held onto it, his other hand rubbing up and down the Cat's...no...Pravus's back, fingers rubbing the fur past the twisted spine.
He tried to hold back his own tears...and failed, feeling them hot against his face from his left eye...his right socket beginning to leak pale red fluid.
"Yes, you should have come...there was nothing any of us could have done, it's not your fault...he wouldn't want you to think it was your fault, Pravus..."
This man understood...Bernard was surprised to find...he needed him here...at least for now. He started to lean back again, without support, he would have to lie back down...he could feel things...shifting...not good.

Pravus was surprised as Bernard sat up again and leaned forwards. . To hug him? Pravus hugged back but didn't really touch the other King, afraid to cause more injury than was already done. The low throbbing headache that graced him every morning began to swell as the pressure in his head from crying urged it on.
He didn't even protest as Bernard rubbed along his spine, though he did gasp a little before continuing to cry. Only his Queen. . had been allowed to. . . But those days were no more, and because of it a small part of Pravus was dead with him. Perhaps Bernard was one of the only ones that understood that as well. He lifted his gaze, wet with tears as Bernard settled himself.
"Neither. . of us can blame ourselves." He let out a bit of a tortured small laugh. "Though it's really tempting to do so isn't it?." Pravus rubbed at the nape of his neck, trying to relieve the building headache. Tears still streamed down his face but at least he wasn't sobbing. He pulled out a small handkerchief, something he had started carrying around with him the last few days, and handed it to Bernard after resting his eyes against it for a minute.
"Is there. . anything I could get you? To help the pain?" Perhaps his bone controlling ability could put broken bones back in line before they were bandaged? He wasn't sure. All he knew was that he was suddenly feeling very dizzy.

"Not that I can think of..." Bernard whispered, taking the handkerchief and rubbing his good eye, dabbing at the socket.
"And yes...it is horribly tempting to do so...there's so much more I should have..."
He shook his head, trying to straighten out without much success.
"My bastard brother broke a few of my ribs and there's not much even Temmin can do about that, the rest of me'll get over it in a few days, I'm sure..."
He wasn't quite sure what to say or do, simply continuing to touch the Cat...no, Pravus's hand.
"Thank you, for coming to see me, Pravus...everyone else can tell that there's pain but...aside from you, I don't know if anyone else really feels it..."
He turned to face the wall, his eye socket still leaking fluid, it stung and he couldn't get it to stop now that it had started. What in the Highland hills was he going to do?

Once Mephitisia was able to slip away from Heilyn and Severus she made her chance to excuse herself and slowly made her way down the hallway to Bernard's room. Her steps were hesitant once out of view of the others, as if she didn't quite want to interrupt whatever conversation might be going on. Pravus was upset, though, and it most likely wasn't a good idea to leave him alone with the King. Sighing heavily, she reached the door and placed her hand upon it, listening quietly to what was going on. All she could her was voices, pain-ridden voices but at least there wasn't yelling or any of the more intense notes of anguish that Mephit had heard from the feline. Nodding to herself, she knocked once and then slowly stepped into the room. Mephit had honestly wanted to see the King as well and, despite herself, had found herself worrying over him as well. O how she hated death! It set everything off balance for people and left her in such a state that she was worrying over people. "Pardon my interruption, Your Highnesses," she murmured beneath her breath, head low. When she lifted her head, she was silently surprised to see both the state Bernard was in and the tears brimming in Pravus's eyes and she felt an aching pang of sympathy shoot through her. What could she say to them? And why the hell did she care so much?!

Pravus nodded sadly. Yes, so many things anyone could have done different. But that was neither here nor there and. . thinking about it wouldn't do anything to change the situation. As much as he wished it would. He leaned his head back, these damn headaches. But the last few weeks of Fino's life had been spent pain free, and he would bare them forever and it would be worth it.
The cat nodded and looked at Bernard's abdomen, it didn't look too swollen. They were probably clean breaks, which was good. Even if it was horrible to deal with for a while. He knew a bad break when he saw one as he'd caused many.
"I should have been there to help you kill the bastard." Pravus said quietly, almost as a thought to himself. His one hand was clenched so hard the the skin around his knuckles was a mottled white. But the hand beneath Bernard's remained soft, and calm. He looked down and moved it to squeeze Benard's gently in a silent thanks.
"They. . . don't understand. But how can they?" He asked uselessly. His head looked up quickly at the door and as soon as Mephit's eyes laid on his face he turned away and wiped as his eyes furiously.

Bernard finally noticed the way that Pravus was tubbing at his temples and neck...and felt slightly guilty for transferring the curse from his nephew to the Cat...Pravus would be stuck with them for the rest of his life...
"You couldn't have known and I'm not sure if it would have helped any...Blaine was...good at what he did, I'm glad he's gone. I should have known he would do something like that...I should have gone after him earlier..."
His voice broke and he let the sentence drop...but he knew he never would have gone after Blaine, he had always hoped he would just dissapear and that he wouldn't have to remember...
The door opened and to his shock, Mephitisia stepped in, dipping her head and whispering a quick apology. He couldn;t manage the energy needed to sit up again, and just smiled weakly at her. He liked Severus's sister, he didn't want her to leave in disgust because he was such a wreck...
"Hello, miss Mephitisia...how are you faring?"

Mephitisia wasn't about to leave now that she'd arrived. Not unless the Kings demanded she remove her presence and even then she was likely to remain just outside the door in case she was needed. From the way the feline rubbed his neck and temples, she could guess what was coming on and she drew just a little bit closer than she'd been before.
"I've been well as..." Why was it so hard to say that when she looked between the two? They were both so very broken, both physically and mentally, and for some reason it just hurt. "...as is possible at the moment."
She politely adverted her eyes from Pravus, allowing him to dab his eyes without acknowledging his tears. It wasn't her place, and she felt bad for interrupting the little conversation. In order to keep from looking at him, she focused on Bernard and quietly studied him.
For the first time since their meeting, her gaze would soften considerably and her concern would shine through before vanishing all together once again. Leave because she was disgusted? How could she? After what he'd done, after all he'd gone through... and to avenge his nephew. Even Mephitisia could ignore her disgust for those sappy family ties for that. He had truly loved him, just as Pravus had, and the doe struggled to understand their loss properly.
What should she say? What could she say?
"I'm so sorry for your loss."
It was all that she could think to say and she hoped the bare showing of raw emotion in her voice and eyes would convey the depth of her thoughts to him.

Pravus sighed a little beneath his breath. No matter how dry he got his eyes they would still be red. Might as well pretend it wasn't there than keep rubbing at them. His head turned and he settled in, a hand wrapped warmly around Bernard's as Mephitisia spoke to them. He couldn't hold it against her that she didn't know. She had been one of the only ones to care for him that day in the dungeon. One of the only ones to keep him from going completely over the deep-end. He owed her and Peaches quite a lot, though he'd never admit it outloud.
He averted his gaze again at the mention of his loss. What was he supposed to say to that, surely he wouldn't be saying thank you. . . So he just sort of numbly nodded. Pravus felt the need to leave and he squeezed Bernard's hand a little before realizing it and he turned to talk to the older King.
"I'll. . come by again. But I'll leave you two alone, I . . think I need to go and rest for a while." He smiled warmly down at the other man as he stood, the tears still sparkling bright at the edge of his eyes. As he moved out of the room, he lifted a hand to touch Mephit's shoulder, as much of a thanks as she would get. He needed to go lay down.
(wrapping up threads, sorry if you wanted him there Vyn :/ I'm so glad he got to bond with Bernard though x.x that makes me happy)
