His ears swiveled with uncertainty at her reaction. Obviously she didn't want to talk about the wound on her leg. Had he said something insensitive? Most likely. Well, it wasn't his fault she was overly sensitive about how she was put together! Heh.. like he could talk.
Then another kid, one of a different mix but obviously Lowlander too, spoke to the female rat. It was safe to assume they were related... He'd learned from his own family about being of mixed breeding and how siblings sometimes didn't look all that much alike.
"It's alright. I don't mind." He said to the strange bird dog boy.. staring just a touch too long than was considered polite before considering the rat's statement. "Oh, it's because my mom is from the Bog.. most people from the Bog can't breathe air from anywhere else. I know I'm not the right color for someone from the Bog but I'm also Solandrian and I'm white because I'm special.. or so mommy says." He got it all out in what seemed like one breath, wanting to get some of his insecurities right off his chest. He would never be able to blend into his surroundings like his mother would... neither would he be able to run swiftly or fly with his overlong, webless fingers.

Vesper secretly envied the boy's ability to just...talk like that. Without a second thought he had divulged all of his little insecurities. Or, well, all of the little things that Vesper had been curious about. Slowly she swallowed and nodded a bit.
"Y-yeah... I don't need a bandage. Thanks for askin' though." It had been concern, right? ...She sure hoped so, cause if it wasn't hen he'd probably laugh at her.
With that out of the way she didn't feel so bad for addressing some of the things he'd mentioned. The Bog, Solandrian... Those were all paces she'd never seen before. Well, she hadn't seen many places. But they were places she hadn't seen people from either.
"You've got nice colors, being white wouldn't be that bad." Better than being brown like she was. It just made it more obvious that she was a Lowlander. She resisted the urge to guard her wound again, aware that it would probably hurt Brokat's feelings. "...Have you ever tried taking it off? Your mask that is? Solandrian's can breathe normal air, can't they?"
Hurray for childhood foolishness and the inability to sense a bad idea before it happened.

His tail wagged ever so slightly at the praise, looking at his pelt as if maybe he'd be able to see the beauty in it now that someone outside of his family had given him a compliment about it.
The next question caused his head to snap up, his red eyes flicking from side to side with uncertainty. "Well... no, I haven't... I don't want anything bad to happen to me." Mikael considered her words. They actually sounded quite reasonable to him. "Well yeah. Daddy never has to wear a mask.." In fact, sometimes his mom didn't wear one either. Still though.. his mother had emphatically warned him not to take it off, no matter how uncomfortable he thought it was. Unsure, he scratched his mane with his fingertips. "I don't know if I can or not. I've never taken it off from what I can remember.."

He edged his way further from his hiding spot, the full nature of his ... odd, triple breed appearance becoming visible as he did. He gave a deep sigh as his sister continued to make the situation worse, even if the path of her wrongness had switched. Oy, if the boy's mother had told him not to then, well, she had a good reason to do so!
His mother would know far more about the matter then you two so .... I don't think you should take it off.
Now he just needed to divert their attentions onto another train of thought which was ... rather easy to do to a certain fire winged canine but he wasn't so sure about the two other children before him. He twisted his little rounded ears back to an odd angle and then it hit him .... formalities! Those could distract them for a little bit, yes?
He gave a slow, shy bit of tail wagging while he spoke, trying not to be nervous.
Shouldn't we at least get names before anyone does something.... silly?

Saethre bustled around the kitchen, patiently ignoring various plees for attention, food, and who-knows-what-else as she baked a few different kinds of cookies to saite her own appetite and the children's around her. After a while the first batch was done, and she appeared in the main living area with a tray of cookies that she placed on a small table near the gathered children. "Chocolate chip butterscotch!" The otter declared, happily petting her swollen abdomen as she ate a few herself. "There's peanut butter coming too, if anyone wants those."
Zether rose an eyebrow at the flaming orange-and-brown boy that approached him. What was this now, someone else that didn't have completely-existing wings? Neato! This boy's were cooler, though, because they could set things on fire. Zeth's were just cold.. which was so not as cool. "Hiya," He said more cheerfully than normal, because the fire was suddenly awesome, "I'm Zether. Or Ze. Or Zeth. Sometimes Ther, but not as often."
At the knocking and sudden entrance of Mikael, Saethre poked her head out of the kitchen to yell out a reply to Seth. "Hey Seth! Alrighty. I've got cookies if you want some later!" The otter replied, though she wasn't sure if he'd heard her since he'd left so quickly. She immediately tossed a cookie to the odd-fingered child, her mind quickly examining him for anything particularly harmful before she shrugged and dismissed him as mostly harmless.
Zether sat back to watch the entrance of Mikael, and was quietly amused when Vesper nearly started a fight with him. He didn't speak throughout it since no one was directly asking him anything, but was paying more attention than was normal for a child his age.

Vesper was really interested to see what would happen if his mask came off. Would he really not be able to breathe? Everyone was else was doing it just fine. "Well, that's why it would be interesting to take it off...don't you think?" Brokat, however, made a good point when he finally came fully out from behind the couch. Drats.
Oi, whatever.
Introductions though, those made sense? She still didn't know the boy's name, but she could definitely convince him to take his mask off once she did, of course.
"Oh, yeah... I'm Vesper." Slowly the rat/canine uncoiled and shifted just a little closer to Brokat and the long-fingered boy that was soon to finally have a name. Somewhere in the background she heard Cas speaking with the goo-winged boy...Zether, is what he seemed to call himself. Her attention returned to the boy in front of her, waiting for a reply.

"Vesper... it sounds like a strange name for a girl.."Luckily, he was distracted as a cookie went flying in his direction. His hears perked up atop his head and his tail swayed happily at the offering, pushing down on it so as to break it into pieces before picking up a piece carefully between his fingertips, using his other long fingered hand to undo a very small latch, shoving the piece in before closing it promptly.
Crunching happily, he turned his attention back to the pair. "Mikael.." But then he looked to the beaked child with a tilt of his head. "What about you? It's kind of funny how you said we need to exchange names, but you didn't say yours!" Ah, child humor.. so simple! Still, it was enough to make Mikael laugh, absently knocking at his mask to make a few crumbs fall out of the filter. Picking up another piece, he proceeded to insert it into his mask in the same fashion as before.

And this time around it was the odd looking boy that said something mildly offensive .... why couldn't he just have a ... small victory in this situation? He glanced a Vesper for a moment before the soft thump of a cookie hitting the ground caused him to jump ... he hadn't seen it flying after all. He ruffled up his fur, and his feathers, for a moment .... looking terribly funny in the process, before smoothing it all back down the best he could. A soft, nervous laugh escaped his beak, scared ... .by a cookie? Even he could appreciate the humor in that.
At the other boys comment he paused, and blushed ever so slightly in embarrassment. He had forgotten his own name, hadn't he?
Brokat and .... momma named us all after roses. He's got all three types in his garden.
His tail wiggled a bit again, the roses were just so pretty .... even his, and they smelt wonderful as well.
Nova on the other hand, was far to busy prancing a circle around the other boy., tail swaying pleasantly the whole time.
I get called Nova a lot, or Cas sometimes .... Although that's usually when I'm in trouble.
He chuckled lightly, pausing to lower his front end down onto the ground and growl playfully .... he really, really wanted to just play ..... Until Saethre came out and announced that she had cookies! His head shot up, ears forward and another yip was given, oh how he loved sweets!
Come on Ze, let's get a cookie!

Zether absently blinked as the puppy crouched down and wiggled in what might be an obvious play-guesture to most people, but was somewhat lost on the children-deprived hybrid. He leaned backwards, an eyebrow raised, and was quite relieved when his Aunt brought in cookies to distract the lot of them. Suits, but why were there so many here?
"Okay," He replied neutrally, and nabbed one off the plate for himself and took careful, precise bites, somehow never dropping so much as a crumb on the floor. His middle shook a bit at the sugar rush the chocolate gave him, and his ectoplasm wings wiggled a bit in reaction. The boy was careful never to get close enough to the other children for them to accidentally touch him, but was always at least a foot away.
"I don't think he should take the mask off," Zether joined in abruptly, "He's wearing it for a reason."

Vesper wrinkled her nose a little, looking displeased with Mikael's comment though it passed rather quickly. Brokat's response was good enough. Not a girl's name...
"Some people call me Vespi..." And Vesper hated it.
For a child though, Vesper had a tendency to be displeased with a great many things. Not spoiled by a long shot, but dissatisfied with her lot nevertheless.
"Well, nice to meet you and all that..." The flying cookie caused Vesper to giggle, especially when Brokat jumped, but she didn't immediately attempt to go find cookies. She was quite comfortable in her little corner of the couch where her arm wasn't too very noticeable.
When Zether interjected, Vesper looked at him blankly and tilted her head. "You sound like a Kahmden. Rules are meant to be broken sometime." Come to think of it, he looked like one too.... Oops. She really needed to learn how to censor herself before she spoke...
